Very interesting replica of a historic ship. I got frustrated with a parent telling her kids it was a "pirate" ship.

The HMB Endeavour Replica is one of the ships/features in the Australian National Maritime Museum located on Pyrmont in Sydney. The visit to the Endevour is included in the visit to the museum and other house vessels (e.g., Submarine HMAS Onslow, Destroyer HMAS Vampire). Going inside the Endeavour was an eye opener for me because I never realized how it was to stay on cramped accommodation. A must visit for everyone.

HM Bark Endeavour Replica is one of two eplicas of HMS Endeavour, the barkcommanded by Lieutenant James Cook when he charted New Zealand and discovered the eastern coast of Australia. The initial idea of recreating Endeavour for use as a museum ship was generated during the establishment of the Australian National Maritime Museumin the 1980s; the vessel would be funded by the Bond Corporation, and gifted to the nation on completion. A specialist shipyard, complete with viewing platform and guided tours for the public, was set up, and construction of the vessel commenced in 1988. Two years later, work stopped because the Bond Corporation hit financial trouble; a Japanese company, the Yoshiya Corporation, stepped in, but was also forced to withdraw support because of financial problems.

Fantastic Replica and the volunteers made it really exciting. Everything was explained, how the crew and officers were living in that time. I spend almost 2 hrs on the Endeavour replica.

Being part of the working crew doing round the clock watches was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I am so glad I took up sailing from Port Adelaide to Albany. Tried very hard to learn the infinite amount of ropes. Captain Peter Blake was the most respected and inspiring lead on the ship and voyage.

The volunteer crew is well informed and have good knowledge of the mission of the original Endeavour. If you learnt about Luitenant Cook and the landing at Botony Bay, this visit is worth making. The Museum has other boats on show too, including a submarine, a destroyer and a tall ship.

A standout replica of The HMB Endeavour that must be seen to be truly appreciated. The attention to detail & workmanship throughout the 30 metre ship is truly astounding . The galley & areas below the deck would have been a vertical challenge for tall folks back in the day . A Thoroughly enjoyable experience & highly recommended if you appreciate nautical history.

I came here with my children and the volunteers made sure they had a wonderful time onboard. Each part of the ship has been meticulously researched before it was rebuilt and the volunteers gave us a great historical insight into one of the most important ships in Australian history.

The volunteers were awesome and very informative! The ship is really cool and really gives you an idea of what it would have been like to live on it for months at an end while crossing the seas.

How easy and comfortable has travelling become today! Even in a 380 or a 747 or 777 economy cabin. Because it takes you only a bit more than a day to get to the other side of the world... But would we dare what our ancestors did??? A wonderful example of craftsmanship!

(Translated by Google) Fantastic replica of a historic ship. It looks like it's just coming out of the yard. Must see! But I prefer not to imagine what it would be like to spend months over the sea. Since I prefer to travel in the A380 to Australia.

A must if you in Sydney. One of the best replicas you come about so make sure you get that good shot!

  • 5/5 Christine S. 5 years ago on Google
Staffed by volunteers who are a wealth of knowledge makes this well worth while.

  • 4/5 Jui Hong T. 6 years ago on Google
One of the coolest things is that you can get onboard 3 of the ships turned museums. HM Bark Endeavour, the ship that discovered Australia, the destroyer HMAS Vampire and that awesome submarine the HMAS Onslow. HM Bark Endeavour Replica is a replica of HMS Endeavour, the bark commanded by Lieutenant James Cook when he navigated the first European vessel to the eastern coast of Australia, claiming it for the British empire. That landing zone is in Botany Bay right here in Sydney.
