Founded in 2016, in Oyster Bay, Black Market Roasters serve coffee, food and coffee equipment, as well as do coffee training for coffee enthusiasts and baristas. They also offer tasting experiences. What a cool idea, where for $20 at the Marrickville roastery, you can experience 4 different coffees both hot, cold and from all over the world, and these are paired with 4 small food offerings. If you’re not up for a course or training, you can certainly pop in for a cup of your favourite type of coffee. There’s also a store in Newtown and Black Market also supplies beans to various venues that we’ve visited.

I recently completed the Foundation Barista Couse at Black Market Coffee and found it to be an excellent course. The class was very hands on, with students assigned to machines and given opportunities to grind coffee, brew it, and steam milk. The instructor was engaging and it was clear he understood coffee very well. He was very helpful during the practical elements and he able to explain how we can improve our techniques or fix errors. If you're looking for a great course to learn or improve your coffee making skills, book a lesson here! You'll leave with a better appreciation and understanding of coffee.

A random pick because I gotta wait for my wife who was getting driving test at Marrickville Metro, turned out to be my new favourite cafe. Good coffee, good music, lots of open space, good for both meet up with friends or just wanna do a bit of work by yourself. 5 stars and no but. Would totally come back

Great vibe, service and food. Love the coffee and food. Try the choc chip cookie, it’s soft, lightly chewy, and delicious. The prices are reasonable and portion size is good. The staff are friendly and food is made to order quickly. It’s a nice atmosphere inside with good music. Most tables Will comfortably seat two or three. There aren’t many larger tables, only one four seater inside. Bigger groups may struggle to find a seat if the large computable at the front is full.

Always a pleasure to come to this place. My boyfriend and I have been coming for a while now and it’s always a good experience, coffee is hands down the best around the inner west and service is impeccable, workers are so nice and friendly, always smiling! Food is good and the place is amazing if you want to come with friends, to read your book or work in your laptop. Absolutely recommend it!

I recommend Black Market Training as your stepping stone regardless if you have the knowledge or just the passion. You will enjoy the experience because we did. 👌🏼 Thank you Franco and the whole team!

This is kind of a hidden gem. Coffee was really good! Not bitter at all! The reuben sandwich and salmon bagel were both filling and delicious.

Surprised to have such good coffee in the alley. The V60 is great, also the cold brew.

I attended the foundations barista course and had such a fun time. Learnt about the different types of coffees, machine setup, cleaning the coffee machines and how to make different coffees (including a sneak peek into latte art)! The classes are small (about 8 people) which allowed for a comfortable learning environment, all questions to be answered and technique to be corrected. I highly recommend this foundations course to anyone looking to learn how to make coffee or have better understanding of coffee culture in a fun and safe environment.

Love the coffee here, saw that there was a training facility late last year and stalked the dates for 2023. Worthwhile and a nice chill way to learn - no pressure unlike other hospo courses. Lars was tops! 👍⭐

1: No one will ask you to pack or drink there, just give me a paper cup without asking 2: Female staff seem unhappy, when I say “can I…” She doesn't say anything, doesn't even look at me. BTW Of course I got what I wanted. 3: The coffee beans are really good

What an excellent experience. Amazing coffee, up there with one of the best I've had in Sydney. Great easy eats too, would highly recommend stopping in. They also stock an excellent range of specialist beans and brewing gear. Will definitely be returning, as a regular!

Attended a cocktail making class for my Birthday yesterday evening. If you love coffee, and cocktails then this is the place for you. Don’t worry you’ll not be getting any classic espresso martini’s in the line up. The class was led by a gentleman called Lars, and what a guy he is! So much fun, super knowledgable, and made the whole experience incredible fun for my Partner and I. Would 100% book this experience again. Thanks Black Market Coffee, and thanks Lars!!

It was a very easy process to book online. We had an amazing time at the barista course with Franco! It was made so simple and straightforward for beginners! He was informative, patient and kept us engaged. We could have definitely done with another hour! We will definitely be practising at home. Thank you for a fantastic experience Franco and Black market training.

Friendly staff and excellent coffee. There have couple of recommendations for coffee beans where they are from and how they are brewed. Recommend 10/10 as the customer service was great and they were very helpful.
