Honestly I don't know why this cafe is popular. Either people don't know what good coffee is or they don't have much choice like we have here in Melbourne. This cafe appeared to be a mechanical or robotic system of generating cups of boiled water with smell of coffee. Unimpressed!

My review only gets two stars - although the coffee was good, they only serve in takeaway cups on weekends, even if you dine in. The bin is overflowing with the used cups which will go straight in to landfill. I think it’s time to rethink this. Weekenders please bring your keep cup!

If you love to have coffee then I suggest this spot for the best coffee. They likewise sell beans which are in every case fresh! They are perfect for takeaway or dine-in! It is no big surprise they are consistently over the rundown with regards to the best espresso contributions in Sydney.

I recently visited Coffee Alchemy and tried their "Gumption" coffee. I must say, the coffee was excellent. It had a rich and robust flavor that left a lasting impression. The best part was that the wait wasn't too long, so I didn't have to wait too impatiently for my caffeine fix. The atmosphere of the place was also quite pleasant, creating a cozy and inviting environment to enjoy my cup of joe. Overall, it was a great coffee experience at Coffee Alchemy, and I'll definitely be back for more!

This place is pretty serious about coffee. Cold drips and different beans qualities its like the apple store for coffee. I've tried a normal cappuccino and it was really good. It has the experience of a Melbourne coffe shop. Staff is friendly. Well worth a visit.

Grumption is located in the beautiful the strand arcade near the mid city centre. Can’t go wrong with coffee alchemy beans, more importantly the barista made a very nice coffee that was enjoyable to drink. You’ll know it’s a good coffee on your first sip. It was my first coffee at Grumption and won’t be my last.

Hipster heaven in a historic Sydney setting. Gumption (smack bang in the middle of the strand arcade) is a busy little coffee shop with limited seating and fast moving coffee lines. Coffee is nice but not any different to the other single origin coffee places around the area. Good for travellers to try out but wouldn't recommend for a business meeting as it gets too busy for a proper conversation

I have high expectations of this place because it is a branch of Marrickville's coffee alchemy but I am disappointed, It doesn't match the quality and consistency of the Marrickville branch. One problem is that for a flat white the milk is not hot enough and the flavour is weakened. Also, you can only get a coffee in a cardboard cup which is always an inferior experience to a ceramic cup.

Updating this review since this is now my go to place for coffee in the city. They have single origin beans that they rotate between with Ethiopian being my favourite so far. The Ecuadorian is also fun if you want a very strong acidity and something funky. Their house blend is perfect for milk, with a strong sweetness that comes out, and a nice balanced taste. The staff are always open to suggestions and feedback as well, always asking me if I liked the single origin I tried the day before. The seating isnt the most comfortable, but it puts you right in the middle of the strand which has its own unique atmosphere. They also sell beans here, roasted fresh with the date on the bag. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for good coffee in the city.

I was refused a coffee at 2:46pm on Sunday even though they close at 3pm and were still making coffees for other customers! The service lady argued for a few minutes refusing to serve me while other coffees were still being made! As a customer of over ten years I won’t be back…

I used to love the coffee here but things have changed. The cost is so high -$6 for a small cold drop and the cup of half filled and also mainly ice. What a rip off! Less care than ever before.

Over-rated and over-hyped. I love my coffee, and a google search for 'good coffee' in Sydney CBD showed this as the second best in the area. My almond cappuccino tasted foul. Terrible experience. Not for me again!

Heard a lot about this shop and decided to give it a shot. It was awesome! Coffee taste is so intense, liked idea of beans selection, coffee is being served in less than a minute. This coffee shop is ideal for real aesthetes!

Was a busy time that I arrived, waited in the line for less than 5 mins, ordered and found a seat. Finding a seat was a little hard but I did consider it was a rush hour so no biggie. I have been on another occasion when it wasn't busy and finding a seat wasn't an issue at all. However the cost for 2 coffees was $10, a little pricey as an extra $1 for oat milk was a bit much. Overall loved the coffee!

The girl at the counter (who wears beautiful make up) was more preoccupied by leaving om time than giving proper customer service. No hello, no smile just "Coffee Machine is closed" at 3:45 pm when they close at 4pm. Understandable, but manners. Almost grabbed the coffee we bought from our hands to tale payment quick and leave ASAP.

It was always my go to coffee place in CBD but today, except the long wait and slow service (2 baristas were working slow and so many people waited for their coffee), the coffee taste was… unexpectedly bad.. my cap didn’t have any foam and not hot at all. I know sometime it’s busy but consistency is really important as a well known cafe. Sad to write but please find a better barista…

I had their flat white and it was delicious. Nicely located in The Strand with a nice seating area in the main floor. The only negative thing is the waiting time of almost 15+ minutes for a coffee.

A very good coffee, which is strong, and very reasonable prices considering they are in the city. However, the temperature of the coffee me and my friend got earlier today was not good, not a standard temperature from other coffee shops. My friend ordered extra hot but it was warm and mine was so warm that I could even consume everything in one go. But, I would still give it a try again as I liked their coffee.

Cool little coffee place in a very pretty arcade. The cold brew with almond milk was delicious and they serve coffee quite late in the afternoon for that after lunch buzz

Terribly slow and clumsy service with multiple people behind in the line getting their coffee order first. After a 14 minute wait for a small cappuccino, it was time wasted for a disappointing brew.

Pretty impressed with the coffee, loved our drink and also the scent of coffee beans just standing in line to order. Being a tourist, I wasnt aware of how popular this place is but again came highly recommended by some mates in town and I would most certainly recommend it to others too!

Went here based on the reviews. The person at the counter was friendly but the barista was not. The coffee was dreadful. Sadly I had carried it back to the office before I tasted it or I would have taken it back. One sip and into the bin. There are better and cheaper places nearby.

popular and you can see why. it's a strong coffee but is down right good. they offer a variety of coffee beans and you can really taste what makes this unique to the other cafes around. note coffee price is the same no matter what you choose

I took a trip to the city to come to this coffee shop. Usually I love the ambience, the coffee and the location. I was informed that they do not do dine in options on a Sunday. I did not stay to get a coffee. I think this is such a lazy business model not to provide dine in cup and also contributes a lot of cups to landfill. I wanted a dine in experience in the lovely ambience of the strand - not milk thrown in a takeaway cup. I cannot tolerate businesses that cannot be bothered to wash up dishes or provide a quality cup of coffee.

A once great cafe where the standards have sadly dropped in recent years. Very hit or miss these days, with more misses lately. Regularly get a coffee where the first sip is already lukewarm. Flavour is quite often very weak on the coffee side and too milky, even if you ask for a strong coffee or opt for a smaller coffee. The location is 10/10 but the staff need some coaching and the coffee quality reviewed to get the cafe to where it once was.

There's this new (ish) guy called Harry King? I think is his name and he is just the kindest person that I encountered in Sydney so far. I was recommended this coffee shop by a local and I had come here for a holiday and I was not disappointed. His coffee making skills were great and he even took some time out to talk to me about different types of beans and coffee styles (that I knew nothing about) but was super interesting to learn about regardless. Will definitely be visiting here again soon before I leave Sydney. Thanks Harry and team!

Coffee was amazing, this place never disappoints. The coffee beans were not burned, and the drink was very smooth, there was no acidic after taste as well. Probably one of the best coffee I’ve ever had in sydney city. Worth every penny!

Cracking coffee. The decaf is the best I've had and I only drink decaf and have tried a lot. It had such an interesting flavour that I was scared to drink it because I have a heart issue and was convinced it was too good to be decaf but I'm pleased to say it was, it was just delicious. My partner's house blend, flat white was great too. We bought some beans to take home.

Great little spot in the middle of the Strand Arcade. They make great coffee and it's easy to find a spot to sit - unlike some other cafes in the Strand. I had a double espresso which was very nice. I also ordered a burnt butter chocolate chip cookie that was delicious.

Used to be really nice coffee, now unfortunately serving in plastic cups only on the weekend and really thick cups other days which ruins the experience as coffee arrives cold. So if you still want to try it get a latte in a glass during week.

Very good coffee for Sydney, only offer one size (unless you BYO cup). Dairy and non dairy milk options. Also sell a range of coffee making equipment & beans (whole or ground) by Alchemy. The baked goods are really good but sell out FAST so get in early. Love that they’re open late. PS don’t expect an array of non coffee drinks, they‘re definitely for coffee lovers.

the world’s smallest coffee shouldn’t have cost me $6. when someone shows you the size of a cup that your coffee will come in, you expect it to be somewhat full. i asked why it was so small and they just kinda shrugged and said they measured it out, it just looked small because of the ice? not even great coffee. better options available. doesn’t live up to the hype.

(Translated by Google) I like coffee, so I visited when sightseeing in Sydney. I think it was around 15:30, but it was a great person. There is a way to drink white flat in Australia, so I ordered hot. Milk was abundant and very mellow and easy to drink. The clerk seems busy because there are many people when ordering. So it seems that there is no time to choose slowly, so it may be better to decide to some extent. You can also drink at the desk in front of the store, but be careful as you will have to take it with you when your seat is full. But the arcade streets are so brilliant that if you can sit down you can relax. I wanted coffee beans, so I bought a house-blend Goodness Galileo, which was sold at the storefront. Do you grind the beans towards the shop? I heard that they could be ground on the spot. After staying for a week, I returned to Japan and drank coffee at home, but it was really good! The scent with soft fragrance was very good. I didn't feel bitter.
