They have the best happy hour with 5.50$ schooners, for all schooners from 4-6 Their kitchen is great, and they nail all the pub classics Their located adjacent to the Sydenham Train Station And the people here are easy going and easy to talk to. On more than one occasion I've had a good chat here. Overall 5 out of 5!!!

The other day I got on the wrong train, my phone died and I was stranded. No one at the station helped me and I was on the brink of tears when I walked into the hotel and they instantly made sure I was ok. I wasn’t a paying customer but they saw I needed a hand and they let me charge my phone, call a taxi and dry off a bit. Absolutely amazing team who really made my day! I’d go again for the lovely staff alone!

This place is my work’s go-to place for farewells and a great place for hanging out with friends and watching the footy. It’s a lively and vibrant spot. Don’t sleep on the garlic bread - it is the best garlic bread in town! Also the specials always have something interesting. The mushroom pizza is awesome and I love the cinnamon shake cocktail.

Dined here on a Saturday evening with my partner and another couple. It was busy but not all tables were taken. You select your food options and order at the counter. I opted for the pork belly with red cabbage and pumpkin puree. It was a good size portion and tasty. The pumpkin puree I could take or leave, but then I don't see the point of pumpkins other than something to carve out at Halloween. My dining companions also enjoyed their food.

Amazing service and the food was the best. Pork belly was outstanding. Atmosphere here is great, we came down from Brisbane and thoroughly enjoyed our night out with family and friends! This venue made the birthday celebrations perfect!

Place looks fantastic, great layout! The chef’s special, gnocchi w/roasted pumpkin and crispy sage sauce 🤤 also had the peach and fig salad.. these two combinations really complemented each other. Chef 👩‍🍳 you’re amazing 🤩 can’t wait to come back to work my way through your menu. Family friendly, plenty of room for my pram and fantastic service from the staff all round. Highly recommend paying a visit.

Fabulous inventive menu with all the pub classics as well. Good size portions. Nice cocktails. Great vibe. Best to book as can get busy in the evenings. Dog friendly on the undercover deck area.

Great food at reasonable Inner West prices. The portions are large and well presented. The kids meals (with an ice cream) are excellent value for money - our kids like the pizza (they think the kids burger is a bit small). The staff are friendly and very helpful. We will definitely come back to try other dishes! Highly recommend!

Food has been disappointing the last 3 times I've come here. A lovely place and friendly staff but the steak, the calamari and scallop entree (absolutely tiny) and the prawn pizza this evening, very disappointing. Dry and not much flavour. The steak, really tough and for $30, unacceptably so. Standard seems to have dropped since before lockdown. The garlic bread is wonderful but not enough to come back.

Great bar after the refurbishment. Dogs welcome in the beer garden which is a great feature. Bistro seems to book out places a lot of nights so be prepared by booking ahead. Bistro is very family, good selection of beer and wines available from the bars. Staff are friendly and helpful so all around a good pub

Enjoyed lunch here with the family. Tasty food, decent portions and solid drink selection. The bistro is nice and airy and the staff seemed lovely. An added star for no self appointed covid dictators asking for papers

Supreme Pizza was very disappointing. Service was given in a pleasant cheerful way by staff. The main meal and sweets with coffee were very nice. over all good atmosphere but only music was too loud ...... good but just too loud.....made conversation difficult to do properly.

Farewell dinner for our overseas visitors and it was a great choice. The food was delicious and service was prompt. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu. It was also good to have vegan options as we had a few in our group.

We have been coming for 18 months on a weekly basis the food is yummy and staff are amazing. I have tried everything on the menu and have enjoyed every dish Recently I had a family get together of 35 to celebrate my sons engagement The head chef and staff were so accomodating with the menu the day was a success thanks to the wonderful service we received. Everyone loved the food and variety that was offered. If your looking for great food and service try this venue it will become a favourite like it has for me.

Always great atmosphere and top notch service here, but a BIG shout out to Kirsten the head chef and her awesome kitchen team for the delicious food every time! A tasty & inventive menu, great value for money, generous portions and very well prepared. This place is consistently impressive and I will always be back or recommend to others!

I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad or mediocre meal here. I’m local and eat here quite often. The specials are regularly changed to seasonal options. Very good standard of pub food and good service. Tuesday night pub quiz is good fun too.

We went there for a friend's bday dinner. Good food. Nice & friendly staff. Kid friendly. Food actually arrived pretty fast after ordering. Good selection of cocktails & on tap drinks. Would go again.

Love this venue !!!! We have been coming for over a year now and the food is amazing. You can tell the chef and her team are passionate about what they do. I think I’ve tried everything on the menu and have enjoyed absolutely every dish. Look out for the chefs specials often changing with new and exciting dishes. If you’re looking for good quality food and excellent service I highly recommend.

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food at the bistro is good. We often stop there after work for a couple of beers and a bowl of chips. Their pepper gravy is to die for.

Our favourite family friendly pub! The food is superb and the drinks are spectacular. The lay out is modern, new yet still super comfortable. It's our pick whenever we want to have a nice, affordable dinner/drinks out with the fam as well as friends or work colleagues. Suits all occasions.

The General Gordon Hotel has become one of my favorite places to have dinner with friends. Following a complete reconstruction of the building, the pleasant decor, lighting, music, and atmosphere have completely transformed the place. It's great to see families enjoying dinner and friends gathering for drinks. During our visit, we ordered the Garlic Prawns Fettuccini and a delightful ricotta gnocchi with browned butter. The dishes were not only delicious but also affordable. I highly recommend this place. The menu offers a great variety of food and drinks to suit different preferences. It's truly a gem worth trying.

I am very impressed with the bistro. I ordered bruschetta expecting it to be a meager loaf of bread, and was surprised to have a hearty proper meal. I went with a large group of friends and they were all happy with their food. The place itself was clean and well maintained. I’d love to come back again and try more dishes ❤️

3 of us ate at the bistro. Atmosphere was nice. The service was great. The burger was ordinary. The rump steak was tough and chewy, the vegetables were room temperature and raw, the mashed potatoes were creamy and salty. For the money, we won't eat there again.

Very handy to the railway station. The pub looks clean, with a good selection of beers and wines. The food menu looks varied and interesting. Well worth a visit or more - nothing like a quick pint before an arduous train journey, or a calming pint afterwards!

Had dinner here tonight - I’ve been meaning to give it a go after its reopening. I was so impressed and so were my dinner companions. The bistro is beautifully decorated, not too noisy, spacious and comfortable. The menu is very expansive and the food arrived quickly. It was delicious. I’ll be back again soon!

This pub has a great bistro. The food was lovely and filling. The cocktails were delicious. The service was efficient and pleasant. Toilets were clean. We had a great experience.

General Gordon Hotel Lovely friendly pub and friendly staff. Great outdoor area lots on offer sun cream,doggie treats, blankets if you get cold or for doggies. Roof open or close over if to hot or raining. Handy across road from Sydenham station. Only $5.50 schooner in sports bar Mon Fri. Happy hour 4 to 6 , 7 days $5.50 schooner. Recommend Garlic prawn pasta. Give it a visit you won't be disappointed.

We've totally fallen in love with the General Gordon. Some of the best and most interesting pub food in the area. The menu has lots of options to cater to diverse tastes and dietary requirements. The layout and design of the dining area(s) is brilliant, and the service is friendly and efficient. Could not recommend more highly!

Hotel rooms are newly renovated and feel like time and money went into doing them up. We were very impressed by the standard of furnishings. The food from the pub downstairs was also delicious. We had the veggie burger and it exceeded our expectations. They also had a list of happy hours and various deals happening throughout the week. The only downside was that it's a contactless checkout so we were unable to request our luggage be stored so we had to carry it around all day. I'm not sure if there are options if asking during check in but we didn't think to organise it until the next morning.

Went for an early dinner before a show. Really nice renovation.Good range of menu. I had a rump steak which was a reasonable price. It was delicious. Staff very friendly and know what they are doing. I will definately return and would recommend.

The atmosphere is very different from the last time I ate here, which is before the renovations were completed. It's much nicer, more open, modern and cleaner. The menu offers a good range for modern dietary needs with more vegan/vegetarian options than the traditional pub. The food was alright and the service friendly.

Fantastic dinner - lamb skewers were beautiful and garlic prawn pizza all beautiful. Excellent music as well. Only think that could improve is get some Carlton draught of tap - as to many craft beers of which some are not great.

Beautiful renovation of what was literally a burnt out shell of a pub. Good, non-pretentious sports bar / front bar and good menu of medium priced pub favourites. We enjoyed the schnitzel and cheeseburger, served up by friendly staff. A Sydenham icon.

What a discovery! I did not know you could get such delicious food at a pub. Great menu with lots of options, vegetarian too and the best thing is the quantity and quality both are great. you get full! prices are not to bad. Thr pub is huge with lots of tables and is not too noisy. Definitely a must try and I'll be going back soon.

Easy going and good quality pub food experience. Great for families. DJ was on Sunday afternoon. The staff are super friendly. Chef Andrew was highly professional and friendly regarding allergies and preferences, which was much appreciated 😀✌🏼

Renovated and looking amazing. The food was incredible. The lamb shanks were 😋😋😋 . When I was there it was happy hour so the beers were ridiculously priced… maybe $5 a schooner!! Wow. Definitely will return.

Restaurant quality food and wine list to match in this gorgeously renovated pub. Very happy with my Beetroot Bauble meal - and the staff who happily accommodated my request for a side of carbs - yum! and thank you!

Good renovation/revamp - I avoided it prior. Extensive menu with some good vego options, all reasonably priced. Drinks slightly expensive. Main dining area a bit loud (acoustics). However the good outweighs the bad. Glad it's joined the list of locals worth visiting.

Beautiful property! It’s been said that all the attitude & eclectic vibe of the Inner West, but with a slight high-end, well it certainly reflected that 💯! One of the best stays I have ever had, in terms of: The staff was exceptional, very polite and helpful. Great interior design of the room, extremely clean and spotless! Excellent location and easy access to public transport!! Nil average Pub so 10/10 of overall.

For a Pub food they did an extra mile which can compare to some 5stars restaurant. I ordered a pork belly which cooked perfectly and the serving size was too good to be true that I had to share with others. Very friendly staffs with good services and great renovation. What a nice place to go with friends and enjoy some nice meals. Highly recommend!!

On trend, happy place. Recently renovated post-fire. Busy, family friendly, noisy environment. Great food. But aircon set too chilly. Be sure to make reservations on weekends. Lovely outdoor courtyard. Despite all outdoor tables being reserved, they didn't fill up during the two hours we were there. Oh well, we had a super time anyway.
