The manager (James) sucks. My wife and I came downstairs to have a drink but as we were even before sitting down , James said we were intoxicated and refused to provide any sorts of service to us. We were offended cuz of his depressing face and poor attitude targeting foreign face. At best, It is merely a disrespectful gesture, if not racial discrimination. After all , we are neither showing signs of drunk nor misbehaviour. Even the security guy told us we were fine and doing good all times but still, the manager refused to serve us. We were not angry but very disappointed. The worst experience ever in Australia or probably the worst travelling experience for two decades.

Great pub, great staff. Been a patron for 5+ years and never seen the hotel kitchen in such a bad state. Great place for a drink, great place to stay, but the food has fallen by the wayside. I've loved this venue and the food for a long time but the recent change of bistro has left me hungry..

I stayed for 3 nights and it was quite good and value for money. The location near Central is great, the service was friendly and the room had everything I needed including a good bed, a mini fridge and a quality bathroom. I even had a beer , coffee and roast lamb lunch downstairs and they were mighty fine. The downside of the location is it being next to the light rail. They have double glazed windows but you will still hear it. The solution for light sleepers is ear plugs or several alcoholic drinks

If you’re keen on lukewarm showers and filth then look no further. Luckily the bedsheets were washed - but the cleanliness and hygiene standard in there was virtually non existent. We didn’t check in until late and tried to contact staff but had no luck. Idk if it was just our room but it was one of those places where you felt you needed thongs for the shower. For $200 a night I expected more. I’ve seen sharehouse showers in better condition.

Traveller tip: sleep in the street outside for a better experience. Staff may be more of a depressent than their alcohol (which is great value?) You may be asked to pay twice, and have a 20 minute argument where you'll show receipts and credit card statements, but that's all part of the "pay twice if you're dumb" experience! See photo of the management's solution to a spotlight being pointed directly into a window with a shonky curtain all night - they'll stuff towels into it for you! (You don't pay extra for the towels - a bargain). If you love the sound of screaming trams misjudging the speed for a sharp corner, you'll love this place! While the trams don't run all night, fear not - what the air conditioning lacks in efficacy, it makes up for in sheer volume. Decent bathroom.

I thought the location was excellent until I became aware of the noise. The light rail going past may be great to look at but makes for poor broken sleep as it feels like the building vibrates as it goes rumbling by and it goes very frequently. The rooms decor was beautiful. The bed very comfortable. It was also cleaned very well. The staff we're amazing and so helpful. The room however remained very bright during the night even with curtains closed.

Lovely experience! Loved James hospitality taking care of us even when it was busy taking the time to explain every question. Would definitely come back for the staff and support!

If I could give the place a zero I would. The guy behind the bar was one of the rudest people I've ever met in hospitality in my life. To put it plainly he was rude and went out of his way to make us feel unwelcome and treated us as if we were not paying customers and an annoyance to his night while he laughed about it with his colleague. I will never be going back and would encourage others not to go if this is how they conduct their business.

Royal Exhibition Airbnb I rather say, you are on your own, BYO no food service, no telephone in the room, no service whatsoever. The train rail run across this hotel with all the noise and vibration you hardly sleep, avoid their room 8 if possible, the train noise and vibration was almost unbearable for me. This is the dictionary def of a hotel “an establishment providing accommodation, meals, and other services for travellers and tourists”

Great location, great value for money, definitely the hallways do smell musty but the room smells normal. There is a bit of dust etc but it’s the cheapest place in the area and the staff are so nice and the aircon is excellent. Good sized rooms. There was one window in our room but it was up very high.

Beautiful old style room, quite spacious with new bathroom. External flood lights outside the window and noise can impact sleep a little but overall a great location, clean room, close to transport and restaurants. Will stay again.

A nice and convenient pub near Central Station. It is great for a meet-up for groups that are based all over Sydney. Better than average food with a nice outside area upstairs.

Work drinks: the ladies behind the bar were amazing!!! We all ordered various things from the menu, salt n pepper squid, chicken parmigiana, beef burger, 250g steak.... all the food was delicious. The ladies behind the bar are an asset to the establishment.

The room we stayed in looked nothing like the images provided, and looked as if it hadn’t had a proper clean since the hotel was built, with hair on the floor, dirty walls in the bathroom, and dust on the singular spoon that was provided. Our room was next to a hallway filled with laundry, so the room smelled musty and damp. Staff were quite rude, and reluctant to show us how to get into our room after hours, as we hadn’t been told when checking in, and generally had a poor attitude. The tv was turning off every couple of minutes, as if it were on a timer, and there were Band-Aid’s on the wall, I don’t know what they were covering as I didn’t want to touch them. The convenient location was the only good thing about our stay, however it’s not good enough to make up for the abysmal state of the room, and complete lack of service from the staff.

So I came to the lounge and bar for food and the girl behind the bar was quite rude. She took my food order at about 4:20pm but didn’t bother to tell me that the kitchen was closed until 5pm. After I waited a while for my food I went back to the bar to ask where the food was to a different lady behind the bar and she said that the kitchen was closed. She asked the girl who took my order if she told me that and she was ‘no coz I thought she should’ve known because she’s staying here’. I wasn’t staying there and she knew that because when I asked her earlier for the Wi-Fi password she said only people staying at the hotel can have the password so she can’t give it to me. It was like she was unnecessarily trying to be difficult. How am I meant to know the kitchen is closed if I don’t get told??!!

Deluxe rooms are nice however room 16 is right near the tram line and pedestrian crossing so can be noisy at night is you're a light sleeper. Also bathroom basin is blocked and toilet needs to be flushed a few times Other than that beds are always great and reasonably priced.

$16 Lunch Specials as well as daily specials are a good touch, looks dated on the outside but the steak lunch was a solid feed and very generous in portion. Surprised there isnt more people eating here for lunch as its pretty quiet and chill.

Not bad but quite difficult to bring bags down from first floor with lift not avaliable to use. Beds comfortable and location excellent. Very handy to Paddy's market and China town. Circular quay just a quick train ride away.

We have been visiting the hotel for 15 years - Avoid at all costs - stayed there and went to go into the bar on our way to our room. We were refused entry by a large aggressive bearded man who would not give a reason as to the rejection. This is why Sydney CBD night life is dying. I would never go here again purely on the treatment by that man.

My partner and I came here for lunch, the menu is easy to read and every option sounds as delicious as the next. Reasonably priced pints and the food was amazing, we both ordered burgers as it was the special for the day ($16 burgers) instead of $20. It has to be the best burger I have had, from the char you can taste on the patty to the perfectly toasted buns, what's not to love? I cannot recommend this place enough! The overall environment is very calm and professional, the service was fantastic and the ambiance was amazing.

We were after a room close to the train station. This hotel is that, but nothing more. Grumpy staff on check in, grottty rooms, and EXTREMELY NOISY. Don't stay here if you want to sleep as there are trams, trains, crossings and 24 hr pub opposite. Cancelled second booking I had made.

Atmosphere and decor charming. Food about the same quality as an outback tuck shop, only with half the quantity.

Customer service is very bad. We were struggling with our bags and they just left us to carry our bags on our own, an elderly woman and a child six years old. Also the rooms were very dirty. Aircon was not working well. Very hot in January. No microwave. No sink. No hand wash. Terrible hotel. Avoid at all costs. No late check out entertained not even 5 mins. Will never come again.

Brought steak meal waiting for over 30 minutes during the afternoon not busy. Also they changed me $4.20 for coke while playing the pokies while I saw others getting for free. Walked out unhappy with no meal or refund. Disgusting service

Very neat clean room. Great location for Central train station. Food is good and affordable. You definitely will not leave hungry.

A sensible price but choose a different location if your a light sleeper as it's right by tram station and main railway station. Great food however and great service. Rooms dated but done up somewhat.

$22 for a chicken parmigiana which was nothing more than a small piece of schnitzel with a slice of cheese on top. This place used to be reasonable, nothing special, but has gone downhill last few months. For same price 2 other hotels within a few hundred metres have far better food. I recommend you consider elsewhere if dining.

Best value for money lunch I’ve ever had. 2 x rump steak + chips and salad, 2 x tall glass sodas, and a plate of salt and pepper squid. The $15 weekday lunch between 11:30-3pm is unbelievable. Our chef (Monday midday) deserves serious plaudits for these dishes. Extremely happy; will be back.

This was my last hotel during a four week Australia trip, and it may just have been the best one as well. Huge, cozy rooms with beautiful furniture, friendly staff, perfect location right across from Central Station, and extremely good value for what you get. Plus, there's a super-cozy pub downstairs, with food that's both inexpensive and very good. Perfect stay.

Very good! Perfect location next to the station! Only drawback was that there was something in the LiteRail rail just outside the hotel, so every time the tram passed you could feel it in the room.

It's pretty good for the price, clean enough. Depending on what room you get it's not super loud but one of the rooms we had was. No hand soap which is odd in this covid age. Great location. I'll stay here again!

The Bistro's $12 Steak-Chips-Salad special Monday-Saturday (ALL DAY) is delicious, great value. Also awesome: You can swap the regular chips for sweet potato fries or mash for $2 more.

Fantastic old school pub. On the light rail to.the SCG - perfect for some pre game drinks and a dabble at their TAB.

Can't give you more than 3☆s. I have stayed here quite a few times in the past, normally before a cruise. This time I stayed in room 10. It was a double room which didn't bother me me. The thing that bothers me is there was only aircon in the room with the 2 beds in it & not the main room with the bigger bed. I figured, well I'm not paying for the power so I had it on flat out on 18° just to feel remotely comfortable. I would've thought with the downturn during Coronavirus things may have been updated a little. I was wrong.

I never write reviews on anything but tonight my whole trip was ruined by this experience . I booked a room in there from a booking app. Payment was done. All the confirmation was provided to me. Drove more than 4 hrs to get there just to hear that they haven’t got my booking in register. I tried showing all the conformation details and the payment receipt as well but no that guy just don’t wanna have a look into it. They could have simply checked with the booking app or just called them. But no, i was the one who had to wait outside calling the people from that booking app and they(people from the app) even tried contacting the hotel but no reply from them. I tell you it’s the worst experience i ever had with any hotels.finally i gave up and had to find another accommodation.

Great place to stay the rooms clean and the beds comfortable . So convenient for getting around Sydney the light rail is a few hundred metres away and central station right across the street (Chalmers st exit ) the food was excellent and the staff were so lovely and helpful and we were able to leave our luggage there after we checked out so we could explore some more before we returned home we will definitely stay again on our next trip ☺️
