Bring earplugs unless you enjoy listening to the foot-steps of your neighbours living above you all night and early in the morning. Not much the zoo can do now to the paper thin ceilings. Expected better for the price they are charging per night. Otherwise the service was great from staff and the restaurant. Restaurant food was average and on the expensive side for what you get. Not comparable to external restaurants. Sanctuary tour was bit of a let down. Pretty basic fair in terms of the animals you see and very short. Probably a 10-15min walk and that's it. Zoo as usual was great.

Loved the retreat. We were lucky enough to have a koala right at our window. The hotel staff and our park guide Sarah were excellent. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, I took a photo, so hopefully I can get one for my home. I didn't rate the dinner in the main restaurant. The view was excellent but maybe not worth the food. However, the cafe in the reception/bar area looks like a good menu.

Had an absolutely incredible time here. The staff were elite in their service. Big shout out to the lovely Francine! Francine went out of her way to ensure that my partner and I had an incredible weekend at the Wildlife Retreat. The cocktails are great and the food is amazing! The buffet breakfast was included in our package and the spectacular views of the city skyline were beautiful! Canā€™t wait to come back!

We stayed there on the occasion of my husband's birthday and it was such a unique experience. The lounge and the room were clean and beautiful. The employees there are very friendly, understanding and helpful. Our sanctuary tour guide was wonderful - Ryan? I can't remember his name unfortunately. Overall, highly recommended. šŸ˜Š

Had an amazing stay! Entry to the zoo, staff were helpful and friendly, if you donā€™t have a fine dining palate I would recommend having dinner elsewhere as the dinner meal is very fancy. Not to our taste personally but the staff were incredible, the food was beautifully presented and the views from the restaurant were amazing! And the best part is the profits go straight to helping animals such as koalas etc! Would definitely return!

The staff everywhere (restaurant, front desk, bar, check-in and checkout) were extremely nice, enthusiastic, professional, attentive and accommodating. This was the first time we felt really taken care of and at ease while staying at an accommodation in Australia. The rooms are new and modern. The food was good in both the bar and the restaurant. However, due to the pandemic, the current lunch options at the zoo are very limited. We'd recommend this place to anyone who loves animals and nature while having access to modern facilities. Your stay also ultimately supports the conservation efforts and research carried out globally by the zoo, which is a big plus.

Excellent service and great breakfast! The sanctuary tour was lovely too. So many great animals to see! The bed was really comfy and I had a great sleep. The free breakfast had many things I donā€™t normally eat like croissants, fruit salad, yogurt and even fried rice. Also, the view we got of the kangaroos were great! Overall, this place was superb.

HIGHLY recommended! I can't stress enough how wonderful this hotel & the whole experience is! The hotel is amazing, you feel like you walk into a safari lodge. The room was probably the best I ever stayed in + our view was the Kangaroo enclosure - our kids absolutely loved it, much better than any other 5 star hotels I have ever stayed in. The restaurant was incredible, everything at dinner & breakfast was delicious with outstanding service from staff. The 2 day entry to the zoo & the private tour was included, excellent value for money. If you are looking for a short get away (especially with kids),look no further. Worth the money, we will definitely be back! Thanks to everyone at the Retreat for looking after us,we will spread the word. šŸ™šŸ˜Š

The first point I want to make is about the incredible service from start to finish. The entire team were just beautiful, nothing was too much, and we felt so welcome at the retreat. The extra work in showing us a choice of room was really appreciated. Situated a 15 or so minute ferry ride from Circular Quay, this stunning place offered a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life. Even during the school holidays, it is so big that it didnā€™t feel all that crowded and we were able to enjoy everything within the zoo over a couple of days at a leisurely pace. With young children, I definitely recommend staying a night or two so itā€™s not such a rush. If weā€™d only stayed one night I would recommend an early start on the zoo so you have the retreat to revive at overnight. The rooms had everything our family needed for a comfortable night sleep. Be aware the lounge bar menu is quite limited, more so for little ones. The beautiful Me-Gal on site was a wonderful culinary experience, but if you need something between nibbles or a fancy treat then ordering in will be your best bet, as we did on the first night. Breakfast offered a lot of choice and great quality. Special thanks for the beautiful coffees to kickstart my day! The rooms were very clean, well appointed with views of the bay/city or bush land. We had a kangaroo outside our window and could also see across to the city which was magical at night time. Overall a very recommended experience if youā€™re heading to Sydney. Very glad we found this as an option to break up our trip. Many thanks for our stay.

The breakfast is good, and staying one night includes a tour of the hotel guests-only mini-zoo. However, the $20 is not worth the night trip. The zoo is accessible both before and after check-out. The staff is courteous and supportive. Me and my mother appreciate our visit; however, please support them as the money you spend also benefits the animals. There is no strange odour in the room. You can clearly see that the animals are clean, healthy, and well-cared-for. If you open the window, you may see the adorable Kola bear hopping from tree to tree.

I wanted to add an extra star! Every member of staff we encountered were absolutely marvellous. Will at Reception and Ellen and Sabina (at the superb Me Gai Restaurant) were particularly noteworthy. The food was sensational and the views across the harbour were tremendous. The Zoo is pretty good, too. Over almost 2 days we saw virtually everything that was there to see. Well looked after animals, great shows and interesting presentations. If you have the opportunity, you should stay here at Taronga where you might be able to roar and snore.

We just returned from the stay and would love to say Special Thank you to Will at the reception for making our stay so relaxing and he is a real thoughtful man for easing our journey. Another Special Thank You for Alana and the tour guide team that found our daughter's jacket at night. Thank you to all the staffs in the zoo, retreat and Me-Gal restaurant (food was real good) for all the big smiles, friendliness and easy going. To those who also spent a wee bit of time to chat with our little 25 months old toddler. It was an experience and awesome trip for us all. We really enjoyed the fresh air and breathing in the smell from Eucalyptus Trees. We will miss this trip for sure and hope we shall return for another special occassion.

The staff at this place are top notch! Upon checking in we encountered the happiness young lady (student on her shirt) with blonde hair who checked my wife and I in. I regret not remembering her name now when trying to review, but she was fantastic and made us feel very welcomeā€¦ sincerely thank you! Our lady tour guide that took us through the afternoon exploration of the inner sanctuary told me many interesting facts that I had no idea ofā€¦ I was very impressed! Our male tour guide that took us out for the night time tour, was so passionate about animals it was entertaining and interesting at the same time. This guy loves animals, and is on a Steve Irwin level! Jenny who was running the front desk, was just amazing. She looked after us in our midnight chaos of thinking we lost something we actually just forgot to bringā€¦ sorry Jenny and thank you for being so attentive and kind. Iā€™ve never had such great service from any place and I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who we encountered. Thank you!!! Besides all of that, the dinner at the restaurant was fantastic and we appreciated the waitress hearing us mention our reason for visit which was anniversary, and our desert came out with a special message for our day that touched our hearts! The buffet brunch could have had some Chinese alternatives (dim sum etc), but besides that this place is a dream stay and I highly recommend it for everyone. I was overjoyed staying here and Iā€™m a local, who decided to stay for an anniversary night. I love that this place can deliver such great experiences for locals like me and I feel great-full we have such an experience for tourists to our great city. Well done Taronga Zoo team! Keep up the great work.

Such a beautiful experience and something the kids loved. The tours were lovely, the rooms were beautiful and the service was 10/10. The only thing I would change is the cleanliness of the room. Felt quite sticky and just wasnā€™t the cleanest. Other than that would definitely come back

If you want to stay in Sydney but feel like your not in Sydney, this resort is a must! The atmosphere, customer service, quality and overall hospitality was top notch! I recommend this place 100% especially if your a young family, there was lots to see and do of course because of the zoo, you have unlimited access to it while you are staying at the resort. Even after youā€™ve checked out you get to keep a swipe card so you can come back up to the lobby for nibbles and drinks, until your done for the day at the zoo. Only down fall was the bar wasnā€™t open till 2pm.

We took our daughter and husband and 2yo and 7 months old and stayed at the Wildlife Retreat overnight. it was a fantastic way to enjoy my grandchildrens first trip to the zoo as we could spread it out over 2 days. coming back to the Retreat when it rained was wonderful as we could allow 2yo to have her nap and we could relax in the beautiful bar lounge area. the staff were excellent and very attentive. The sanctuary walk was perfect for the 2yo Breakfast and the views was a great way to start the beginning of the next day. We had such a memorable experience...Thank you

This is a special hotel within the zoo and overlooking Sydney harbour. Really is a hidden gem. I stayed here on a business trip, so I did not get into the extras that this hotel has on offer like zoo night tours. Rooms are very nice and of the class expected of rooms with this view/ location. It's not a busy hotel, but I can see it becoming more popular as time goes along.

Everything was 10 out of 10! I loved how sustainability was at the heart of the retreat. As soon as we arrived all staff were welcoming and willing to assist. Our room was incredible with a friendly koala outside our window. Everywhere was accessible with lifts and ramps. Love how the stay included dinner at Me-gal and access to the zoo.

Had a wonderful time with my son. Lovely ambient, spent decent amount of relaxing time at the zoo. The rooms are brilliant and comfy. View is magnificent. Love waking up and watch the sun setting. Highly recommend! Gave 1 star less for the room due to the poor noise between rooms. I can hear next door also the corridor.

A 5 star experience right inside the Taronga zoo! Our stay was so amazing and we were wowed at every turn. The rooms are updated, clean, and modern. We had 2 connecting rooms for our family of 5 - a king bed room with 3 singles attached. Our kids loved watching the koala right outside our window every day and having access to the morning and afternoon walks with a zookeeper are a really lovely touch. Iā€™ve never met a more passionate and friendly group of zookeepers. They were so patient and kind, answering all the kidsā€™ (and grown ups!) questions. Breakfast is included and has all the options, parking is free right at the zoo car park. I will say though, we rented a car from the airport and drove ourselves, but found once at the zoo we didnā€™t use our car again until the day we left. The ferry to circular quay is conveniently at the bottom of the zoo and that took us right to the opera house in about 10 mins. I just canā€™t say enough good things about this wildlife retreat. Our kids are already asking when we will be coming back!

What a special place to stay! We came as Sydney locals on a ā€œstaycationā€. We booked a harbor view room for 2 nights and it came with a bonus view - Baxter the koala! He was more than happy to sit right in front of our open door and do koala stuff. Made it very hard to leave for the zoo or breakfast. But what a way to wake up šŸ˜ The staff at the resort are wonderful. Super helpful. The keepers, volunteers and guides are also wonderful. Obviously knowledgeable, but also happy to just chat all things native wildlife. The afternoon tours we went on were so great! And yes - tours. We did it twice because it was so nice. The guest entrance to the zoo allows fast easy access when open. The tip we got to head to the main gate for 9am to get in line first for the encounters was much appreciated. As a hotel, the retreat is well equipped, well layout, very clean and well maintained. But with the wildlife and location? Unrivaled in Sydney!

We bought this experience as a gift for visiting relatives, the staff were truly magnificent, accommodating and kind. The zoo is a true conservation model and the retreat echoes this narrative. All details are well considered, a small bar with good choices and dinner available with a view of the harbour and glimpses of the opera house at night described as "magical". The tours were led by very knowledgeable staff who were also very accommodating and friendly. The wheel chair accessible room was spacious and had evidently been deliberately designed. Breakfast is good with a range of options on a self-serve buffet. The highlight of the stat, was the animal sounds at night! Highly recommend, I'm told it was worth every cent.

Stayed here on November 2nd between work trips as a ā€˜thing to doā€™ between filming shoots in Sydney. Was absolutely awed by the ability to get up close with the animals, and the private tours through the sanctuary, park, and night tour were *outstanding* and enthusiastic. Everyone working here clearly loves the guests, and the animals. And a Koala outside your window? Highly entertaining (beware: Thunder is a fairly loud fellow at night). 5 stars for the check-in at the front desk, and kudos to a VERY enthusiastic zookeeper fellow who did the night tour and chatted with me about the Calgary zoo. Felt like I was leaving my close friends when I had to checkout. Canā€™t offer any higher praise.

Such an amazing experience!!! From the minute you walk in you are greeted by the most friendliest, welcoming staff I have ever encountered!!! The room is beautiful, the views amazing and the food is exceptionalā€¦..

Wow is all I can say! The whole experience was amazing. The staff were so friendly from greeting us at the door until leaving. The food was amazing, with stunning views of the harbour. And as someone who cryā€™s every time they see a koala, I was pleasantly surprised to have a window that overlooked their exhibit. Highly recommend for any special occasion.

Amazing experience with a big thank you to the front of house team; Jane, Tara and Michael hand answers to all the questions! The reception/bar area has an amazing view of the harbour only second to Tarongaā€™s wedding reception location. Itā€™s also open 24hrs (the bar till 10pm) so definitely worth having a late night stroll from the room. The rooms are decent with Taronga being a NPO but had minor concerns with the shower area (silicone sealant discolouring) which canā€™t really be rectified by the crew and a minor stain on the couch. Iā€™ve kept the 5 star rating due to the unique tours that are run through the sanctuary and aviary; yā€™all have Scott to thank! Really entertaining and having access to the zoo after hours really helps absorb in the ambiance. Thank you for again!

  • 5/5 Sarah J. 2 years ago on Google
The retreat is fully worth the money! From stepping foot into the retreat lounge you are greeted by the lovely reception. We chose the harbour room and were not disappointed, waking up to koalas on your balcony is magical. Included in our ultimate package we got our 3 course meal to the 2 chef hat restaurant which was so delicious! Free entry to the zoo with our accommodation was pretty special too! Highly recommend!

Stayed here in May 2021 for my partner's birthday. The staff, food and facilities are all excellent. The views can't be faulted. I was very impressed with the room layout; they are small but very practical and comfortable. I was really surprised there were zero bugs at the accomodation, considering the bushland location next to a zoo. Wish I could have afforded more nights. Will be returning in July as a group. It's a great experience to stay here as a package. We split our zoo visit across two days.

I am genuinely suprised not a lot of people have heard about this fantasic five star resort. This place has everything an eco-concisious traveller wants. Susitanable practices, beautiful Australian materials used in every space, indiginious artowrks, and the very best view from the lounge. The staff were top notch and were very accomodating. We'd recommend booking the Animal view room as there is something magical about waking up to a koala outside your bedroom and seeing the Tammar wallabies wandering about. The only downside was our dinner expreience which looked great but came up short in the five-star expeirence.

  • 4/5 Jo M. 2 years ago on Google
This was such a special experience, and one worth taking, whether youā€™re a big kid or a little one. Access to the zoo when we arrived was easy and any animals missing later in the day were out in force the next morning. The accommodation was great, even with COVID restrictions. The people were really friendly and knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. The food at Me-Gal was really nice too. Overall money well-spent and wonderful memories made. Taronga Zoo has come so far (the seal enclosure still needs work) and I really encourage anyone visiting to think about donating in some way or another. Itā€™s such a wonderful paradise in the heart of Sydney.

This place is unbelievable! All the years I've been to Taronga Zoo, I never thought I'd be able to sit down to a nice dining experience such as this. We had a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour which included the harbour bridge, Opera House and the city skylines. The staff were very welcoming, accommodating and very professional as they went about their service. The food was amazing and the desserts topped up a week of celebrations all around. Highly recommend for all patrons who visit the zoo.

What an amazing experience! We booked the Ultimate experience and itā€™s did not fail in any way. The tours, the food and the rooms were all excellent, the staff were friendly and offered a 5 star service, nothing was a problem. We were welcomed this morning by a very active koala sitting right outside our room, itā€™s been a very special 24 hours for us and our 6 year told grandson. We couldnā€™t recommend the Taronga Retreat more highly. Thank you

This was our first night away from home with our baby and it was perfect. The retreat even let's you order uber eats to have in the bar/lounge which is perfect when your bedtime won't allow for the restaurant. Being at the zoo at twilight and dawn is also great for private time with the animals when it's cool and they are active. Very happy and positive experiences. Xx

We had the best time at the Wildlife retreat. Our package included breakfast & dinner, entry to zoo for the days we stayed and 2 tours of the sanctuary & aviary. Kids loved the stay, even without any toys. Food was amazing and amazing skyline view from reception & me gal restaurant was breathtaking. Thank you for an amazing experience wildlife retreat staff & volunteers.

it was an incredible stay. The staff is very friendly, courteous and helpful. We also booked some tours for our stay. The evening tour through the closed park was the highlight. It was an indescribable experience. Unfortunately the dinner in the own restaurant was not very convincing. It was good, but something was missing.

  • 4/5 A B. 2 years ago on Google
Loved how easy check in was and how friendly all the staff are, the forest like feel of the rooms is beautiful, loved the sanctuary tour, and the modern rooms and bathrooms was nice, unfortunately we had no mini bar which didnā€™t really make any sense (they blamed covid) so to order anything (water, coke, wine) took too long and not very convenient and we couldnā€™t even order potato crisps - they were all out? Also lost 1 point because our room floor was very dirty looked like it hasnā€™t had a good mop in a long while including long black hairs (room 534), and bed cover had stains

Weā€™ve been wanting to stay at the Taronga Roar & Snore for a while but never saw the value so when the Wildlife Retreat was built we definitely jumped in. It is a little expensive but we didnā€™t feel bad as the revenue goes towards the animal and environmental conservation. We chose the treetop room as thatā€™s the only one with a bathtub. Awesome views of the harbour, animals and cost includes a two day pass to the zoo and tour of the inner sanctuary. Lovely experience for the family and kids.

  • 3/5 Jordan K. 1 year ago on Google
Retreat staff & accomodation were excellent. Tours were great, itā€™s the passionate guides that really make it. Unfortunately on the night we stayed, there was a birthday party in the event space right next to our rooms and animal enclosures. The music was incredibly loud and flashing lights through enclosures in front of our room until 11:30pm. The staff didnā€™t do anything about it which was disappointing and it took away from the whole ā€˜retreatā€™ experience. In the room, thereā€™s even details on the tablet saying donā€™t use flash from our rooms and keep it quietā€¦ but thereā€™s a dance party next door? If that didnā€™t happen, it would have been great overall. The restaurant was alright. Food wasnā€™t anything to write home about, but the views were spectacular.

Incredible stay at the retreat! The accommodation was beautifully designed, with a nature/organic theme that matched perfectly with the surroundings. Can't beat that scenery too, with sweeping views of the Sydney skyline from the lounge and also from the Me Gal restaurant where a delicious buffet breakfast gets served. The Sanctuary tour is a must-do, to get up close and personal with the retreat's cutest residents. If you're lucky, a koala or kookaburra will say hello from your balcony in the morning. The staff were lovely and welcoming, the keepers very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. A wonderful experience for any animal lover! ā¤ļø

Entire building is covered by greens. Lots of Australian local animals in the backyard. I can see a koala from my window. Staffs there are very friendly. Buffet breakfast is delicious with awesome city view. The small group tours are also very nice. Highly recommended.

The room, the tour and the food are all amazing! You can be so close to these cute animals during the tour, if you love animals, this is the place to be. The room is also breathtaking, nice bed and great bathroom. Outside of your window is the zoo, you can see kangaroo and camel all day, hear seal roaring at night. Very cool experience!

Fabulous, you've got to at least do this once in your life. Short 20min tour walking around, only small animals though were interesting. Only saw a koala sitting in a tree and a small kangaroo from the room Restaurant clean and tidy. Had a buffet breakfast was very nice. Staff friendly and helpful.

Highly recommend!!! This place is super special, holds amazing memories! We got a luxurious room which had a bathtub. Had to reschedule a few times due to Covid but all worked out in the end and the staff were amazing. Loved the special dinner at the restaurant too.

An amazing hotel, passionate staff and a great all round experience. Highly recommend staying in one of the animal view rooms and doing the guided tours. The sanctuary is a great way to see Australian animals up close whilst the Blue Mountain walk is a lovely way to experience an area of the zoo that can be missed.

WOW what a fabulous place to stay even for one night. Beautiful rooms overlooking the koala enclosure and behind the scenes tours of several other parts of the zoo. Our daughter loved every minute of it. Add in the fine dining in the restaurant that has the BEST views of Sydney harbour I've ever seen and its definitely worth a spot on anyone's bucket list. Well done Taronga Zoo šŸ‘šŸ‘ā¤ļø

Stayed for a week. Accomodation was beautiful and wow what a view. Conference food for a week has to be the worst Iā€™ve come across. Main evening meals. Prawns that smelt and were slimy canā€™t believe no one got sick. Desert cheesecake came out frozen solid to everyone. Lunches even the roles and wraps slimy and not fresh. I sent back an entree it was so bad. They had used the salad from lunch with a few sprigs of carrot on top.

The whole experience was worth of every penny! Highly recommend. Decided to celebrate our anniversary with Taronga Zoo, and it was all lovely. From the moment we were greeted at the door to the moment we left. We had our room with views to the animal sanctuary, and it was fun to watch little wallabies and koalas from our window. Both tours were good and very informative, and can definitely say I've enjoyed the zoo itself. Definitely recommend dinner and breakfast at Me-Gal, their restaurant too.

  • 5/5 Jay J. 1 year ago on Google
This is one of the best stays I have had as the entire experience from start to finish was 10/10. My two year old absolutely loved the koalas outside our room and obviously all the animals around. The room is modern, clean and spacious and you really feel so close to nature. The wildlife care takers are so friendly and they genuinely care about the animals and the sanctuary. The 3 course dinner at Me-Gal was fantastic and again the service was just so friendly and they catered to my little one. They also have kids cutlery and plates which was so thoughtful. The meals were wonderful and tasty for us adults and the kids meals were substantial and well-prepared. I can't recommend this experience enough and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you so much for a lovely staycation!
