As a normal meat eater, I thoroughly enjoyed the yum cha here. Great flavours & lots of options that I almost forgot it was vegan! It is situated near the Cook Phillip swimming pool. I love how it is situated amongst the shady trees & that there are a wide range of drink options as well. Great for day dates or catch ups with groups. Would come here again!

The food is absolutely amazing and the dishes are very diverse and special. The cocktails are top quality as well. The ingredients felt like really good quality and the preparation was on point. One star deduction because some of the staff wasn't so polite. Not the new waiter though, who served us most of the time and who was very helpful and friendly.

4.6/5 for me. The staff there were so welcoming even though we had arrived early. Our server was very friendly but could have improved by keeping to our own picks rather than their suggestions. The food however was incredibly flavoursome but also very light. It was a very satisfying meal without feeling like you needed to wear stretchy pants to the restaurant. Pretty big fan of the sliders and the eggplant was a table favourite. Would have loved to see a little more spice to the curry but the chef's have definitely learnt how to create "duck" at a similar taste to the original. Overall great vegan experience and would definitely go back

Unfortunately we didn't have a great lunch at Bodhi. Arriving a few minutes early for our table (5mins max), they didn't let us take a seat in the empty restaurant so we loitered around. Besides the crispy wonton, most other dishes weren't very tasty, with the dumpling skins way too thick and chewy, oily or too much sweet sauce added. We couldn't finish some of the dishes. The service was also a bit chaotic. There were some newbies being trained but it was a bit uneasy to see multiple plates of food going back and forth, with servers talking all over them. One server kept speaking to us in Cantonese even though we only spoke English, and when we paid the bill, the guy at the front grumbled because our first server hasn't put our table number on the system. So the vibe amongst the staff felt a bit.. Off. Not sure why there are so many good reviews for this place. Sure the location is nice and it's nice to have a vegan place, but the flavours, service and value for money wasn't there for us. Wouldn't recommend it for vegans or non vegans.

This deserves a 5 star review because i enjoyed every dish. FYI i fancy being a carnivore in my spare time. The only "bad" and somewhat debatable feed back I can give is that the tables were really tight and small so if you have multiple dishes coming out at a time and you want to take your time to intake all the flavours it was a bit of a circus act. In addition if you have a bad back i recommend letting the booking staff know prior to your arrival as 95% of the chairs don't have a back support.

CHECK YOUR VEGETABLES! I had a terrible experience with my friends when we caught up for lunch. Whilst I was 5 minutes late to my booking and called in advance to let the restaurant know, I had to wait another 15 minutes to get seated. I was assured by one of the staff that our 1 hour booking will be extended due to the wait. We then discovered a caterpillar in the steamed vegetables that we ordered. The manager did not want to reduce our bill or give us extra time. We had to stand our ground to get a discount and an extra 15 minutes at the table. I would not write this review if the manager was more friendly and accommodating.

Stunning vegetarian food and cool concept. Don't worry about studying the menu. Just sit down and grab pieces to try and share as they are offered at your table. All of them were good and there is enough variety to delight everyone. The only issue: You start and eat way too much too quickly so there is no more space when even more interesting dishes appear. Clear reason to come back!

Food was pricey, yet bland and cheaply made - prawn rice noodle was just imitation crab meat but charged at a higher price than prawn dumplings from major yum cha establishments. Staff would come over and say "do you want any of these?" and we had to constantly ask what it was and they would give one word responses. For the price point and what you get the only redeeming factor was the location and view - may as well just have a picnic in the park and it'd probably be comfier than the tiny chair and table we were sat at. Not worth the rave reviews it has somehow gained.

Delicious vegan food. Friendly service. I am not a vegan and this was my first time having vegan yum cha. I was a bit skeptical at first but I was surprised by how tasty everything was. Don’t expect it to taste like “regular” meat yum Cha dishes but everything was still delicious, flavourful and filling. Lots of variety of steamed dumplings, deep fried goodies, buns and desserts like mango pancakes. Like traditional yum cha they walk around with the food and you just let them know which dishes you want and they stamp your table’s bill. There are a limited number of indoor seats (note, benches without back rest) Mostly outdoor seats. A few toilets on site. Restaurant was clean. Costed us $40 per person for food and tea.

Most disappointing vegan food I've had in my life. I arrived with my GF at 6pm when it was completely empty. Was seated on a tiny table in a back corner cause all the tables are reserved for 7pm. Then we ordered and the servings were tiny, dough all tasted like sugar and everything really lacked flavour. To top it off everything was extremely over priced. Eg dumplings x3 filled with mushroom had no flavour and cost $12. Never going back!! There are much better vegan restaurants around.

Bodhi has been saved in my favorites for a long time but I don’t know the exact reason why I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe it because I don’t want to go there along and people around me they are not that into vegan food. Anyway, finally I found someone who wants to try it with me! Stella and I ordered a crispy silk tofu, sweet potato gnocchi and a salad (I cannot remember which one). The waitress asked us if we want rice for the tofu, we refused since we don’t wanna too much carbs in the evening. But that was a big mistake we made that night. The tofu is salty! But not in a bad way I think, it will definitely go very well with rice! The gnocchi is soft and creamy, I love the tenderness of them.I cannot remember the salad though, but I think we both impressed by the combination of that salad. Haha, on that night we had two bottles of sparking water, I assume it is because of the tofu. When it comes to the price, it is about $40/person and I do love the atmosphere very much, it is so romantic and it makes you feel close to nature as well.

Visited Bodhi for second time recently as a couple and once again had a good experience. The atmosphere is a amazing, the team is friendly and service was quick. Food is delicious and decent portion sizes. We ordered mocktails, they were really tasty and well presented. The sliders serving could definitely use better presentation though. It doesn't compliment how the rest of the dishes are prepared and served. Also a bit more attention needs to be given to small details, like the tables (crevasses), the candle holders, etc surely needs thorough cleaning. I'd have given 5th star, but the lack of cleanliness put me off. I'll still visit again in future for food and the team (also hoping better cleanliness). Certainly recommended for a visit!

Wow... This is our new fave restaurant possibly in all of Australia! After a beautiful morning in the botanical gardens and Australian museum, We simply did a google maps search for a nearby vegan place and found this - so lucky. A beautiful location- tucked away in the trees- with excellent, friendly service. The yum cha was so fresh and delicious- we were lucky enough to try many, many dishes (usually a portion of 3 items per plate is on the serve) - the care to make this plant based, traditional Buddhist method cuisine (no onion, garlic, nightshade). The flavours all just popped and the sweet dishes were also incredible. I loved it all but the standout was : prawn har gow/ Chinese donuts and the ginger cocktail 🍹 Just relax and try as much as you can. Cannot wait to come back!

Bodhi is outstanding. The all vegan menu is delicious and would surprise and delight anyone who has a non vegan diet. We were seated outside under the umbrellas. It started to rain during dinner but it did not dent the spirit of the staff. Bodhi is a staple favourite

Exceptional vegan food and beverage list. What a fabulous spot for a nice lunch; sitting outside under the trees in the shade or there are a few tables inside with huge open doors leading to the outside. Excellent wine, cocktails and mocktails available. The food just kept on coming and you can say 'no' or 'yes' to whatever you want...nobody takes offence. My family who are meat eaters loved the vegan dishes and enjoyed the majority of the yum cha. There were just a couple they didn't like but that was only due to their own personal preferences. 'pork' buns and Mango crepes are sensational. This is a must go to for any vegan, or actually any non-vegan.

Still producing consistently good quality dumplings. I first discovered this place in the 90s and it has not dropped in quality or popularity. Nestled under beautiful established Moreton Bay Fig trees by the famous cathedral. Wonderful varied menu with lots of vegetarian and vegan options too. Very friendly to people with allergies which gets them extra points from me. My favourite are the sweet Japanese pumpkin dumplings.

Stunning hidden location and a unique vegan eating experience. I wouldn't call this traditional yum cha, no trolley carts in sight! And the dough on the dumplings are a bit thick. flavours are simple and clean. Not bad overall.

Great vegan restaurant, some dishes lacked the typical umami flavour would get from the real deal but it’s a nice alternative. The prawn dishes weren’t the best as the prawn tasted exactly like sweet imitation crab. The best dishes were probably the sweet ones like the deep fried sweet potato pancakes and passion fruit Chinese donuts, probably because they weren’t trying to be something they’re not.

Bodhi's is overpriced and inhospitable. Don't come here if you want an honest and truthful business that will help to make a good dining experience for all. After we spent $250 for lunch for 7 people, they wanted to charge $27 to allow us to cut a piece of cake when one member of our group specially made the cake for the birthday of one in the group, due to a variety of allergy requirements. Simply incredible. Never to return again.

This restaurant is amazing! I could not believe it was real when I first discovered it. It is next to a beautiful cathedral. Its garden is literally in the park. You sit under the big trees and watch giants bats having their dinner whilst you have yours. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I have been there many times and tried most of the food on the menu. All food is vegan and tasty. They have a huge variety of non-alcoholic drinks that I enjoy. I would recommend this restaurant 100%.

Words cannot describe how truly wonderful this restaurant is. The dishes are so amazing, combinations of flavours brought together in such playful ways. Every dish is so beautifully crafted. The eggplant was so good we had to order a second portion of it. I also loved the betel leaf tapas. So so so good!

We dined at Bodhi for the first time on Sunday evening with our son and daughter-in-law who are both vegan diners. WThey raved about the food so thought we'd try it out - oh my goodness, we were not disappointed. What a sensation of dishes and flavours to choose from. The setting is perfect; the wait staff were excellent - warm and friendly, and the dishes all presented in a very stylish manner. We ordered several tapas style dishes and several mains, but everyone was delicious. I tasted many new items and seasonings and would definitely return when next in Sydney.

Amazing gluten free options, and such care ensuring that everything is celiac friendly. They entered it into the system 3 times just to be sure the chef was aware, and put little flags on each dish which signalled it was gluten free. Loved it!

Shitake mushroom dumplings 12$ and Green curry28$ with brown rice4$. Mushroom's flavour was so delicate and well made. Also I really enjoyed chilli sauce and soy sauce as follow menu of it. Green curry taste bit sweet but I enjoyed it. hopefully it wasn't made of sugar :3

  • 1/5 Daniel L. 3 years ago on Google
Given the ratings and reviews, we had high hopes going in but left disappointed. Very overpriced for what you get, and also dishonest menu names. The prawn tempura were more chicken nuggets, nothing like the fluffy crispiness you expect from tempura. The mushroom dumplings were very doughy with minimal ingredients inside. The peking duck was very bland and did not resemble the authentic dish at all. The highlight was definitely the fried chicken "slider" (which is actually a bao), and the eggplant sticks were good as well but very sweet. We also found the staff unhelpful. When I called to change the time from 7:30pm to 6pm, I was told we'd have to sit outside because there were other bookings, not a problem. However when we arrived, it was completely empty inside and out. Whilst they did give us an indoor seat, they put us in the corner and provided no explanation. Normally I wouldn't leave such a review but I thought I should inform others because the quality of the food and the customer server simply does not justify it's high price tag. I wouldn't came back here again.

Don't take non vegans here. Everything was heavily battered and deep fried and many types of dumplings had run out. I had to get them to fix my Espresso Martini which was super bitter. One redeeming factor was the outdoor atmosphere. But just go have a picnic in the park instead. To their credit the fake prawn tasted like a prawn... but the rest was powdery batter with very little inside. Would not go back.

The waiter was really efficient. The pork salad had way too much sugar in it and so did the sticky date pudding

  • 3/5 Stacy L. 3 years ago on Google
Though it's vegan, the ~10 dishes we ordered for dinner mostly seemed unhealthy: lots starch / some form of soy protein, fried, sugar etc. Also, found the waiter condescending when we tried to understand what the "chicken, prawn" dishes were about - he said "vegan" with a slight brow twitch? Erm, of cos we knew that since we are eating there. Anyway, won't be back.

Excellent service but.... wine wasn’t good, half of our entree shares weren’t good, only the pork salad and gnocchi were really worth it. The sticky date pudding desert didn’t taste fresh at all. Good but Not good enough for the price

Topnotch Vegan Restaurant! Their duck slider is to die for. The restaurant also boasts a gorgeous outdoor seating area, with plenty of shade. We took our fur babies with us and sat outside where they had beautifully set up blankets and heaters. This a must go restaurant, a great place to explore plant based meat if you're interested.

Definitely changed my views on vegan food. The duck was amazing and the pandan sponge was to die for. Service was mostly attentive and friendly but the waiter didn't understand when I ordered "Glenfiddich" and looked at me perplexed. Two major issues with the restaurant itself which does not detract at all from the food included: 1. There is no music at all. For such a beautiful space it would have been nice to have some background music to improve the ambience. 2. The tables ! They are way too cramped and the slats are definitely not made for this kind of dining. Our chopsticks fell through multiple times and it appeared to be a common theme amongst the other tables. Overall I do reccomend a visit and will be returning, hopefully to some more appropriately sized tables. Thanks for a great night.

Amazing Asian vegetarian/vegan restaurant. We mainly go there to have their Yum Cha and its fantastic. I am not a vegetarian and I love the food here. The dishes are flavorsome and tasty. The service is courteous and prompt. The pricing is on the higher side, but that is justifiable given the quality and variety of the food.

Stunning atmosphere and exciting menu. Delicious and aesthetically exciting meals that stimulate your senses. Bringing omnivorous guests and revealing all the menu is vegan is met with sheer wonder as they revel in the exploration of such exquisite cuisine. The best YumCha in Sydney!!! Our favourite birthday celebration restaurant!

Food was good but service ordinary. We're group of 4 and entrees were sold mostly in sets of 3 pieces. They couldn't make a set of 4 to accommodate our group. It was either 3 or 6. I found this disappointing and very silly. We just wanted to try a bit of everything. The mains were delicious but not enough to choose from. 2 plates with real food and 2 with fake meats, which I don't really fancy.

The fact that no one else in Sydney is doing vegan yum cha has given Bodhi monopoly status. I mean sure, it's not real yum cha. It's no Marigold. And sure there are a lot of non Asian dishes and the dumplings are a little off. But for the outdoor setting next to the quiet part of St Mary and the attentive service. It makes up for a lot. Overall the food was pretty good, with cute and creative dishes. Well it was so good I could only remember to take photos of the desert.

Vegan food available here. All the meat based products are made from plant based ingredients and the yum cha style setting is presented by waiters bring the trays of food rather than the traditional carts. Dumplings were a but chewing but the meat imitation was done pretty well.

Yum Chia style restaurant with full vegan (vegan without onion, garlic, shallot) Right underneath St Mary’s Cathedral, Bodhi is hidden behind a bamboo alley. Elegance outline its interior and exterior. Recommend Rice noodle folds with English spinach, Chinese Cabbage bun, bbq char siew squares, pumpkin ball, coconut pandan jelly Rice noodle folds with English spinach: this dish has perfectly preserved the freshness of spinach while taken out the original stiff feeling of spinach. Noodle folds are smooth and silky. Soy source was not oily, not salty, smartly combine the spinach and noodle folds. Chinese Cabbage bun: Bit mushroom, bit carrot, the perfect touch has brought the fresh and tender of the Chinese cabbage right into your mouth. Bbq char siew squares: This dish has fully inherited traditional Cantonese barbecue pork square taste. On top of it, the vegan ones have eliminated the stinky smell of the real pork completely. Of course it become the loved ones for vegan people. pumpkin ball: All cooking timing are perfect. Crispy outside, soft inside, it let the real pumpkin’s sweetness stay inside the bun. Presented very well with the pumpkin looking. Combination footballs: enjoy the sticky crispy with yummy variety of veggie insides. Do not recommend: ‘prawn’ har gow dumplings, black and white sesame rice fold (don’t know exact name on menu) Price: small $9, medium $10, large $11, special $12 Bodhi Restaurant:

LOVE this place for vegan yum cha. They have a wide selection of steamed vegan dumplings (flavours like spinach, pumpkin, mushroom, marinated tofu) as well as fried dim sims, desserts, buns and rice paper rolls. I've taken my family who are meat eaters here and they're quite impressed with the mock meat. The outdoor garden atmosphere is lovely too, especially with the park and fairy lights. The only downside is the price - the dumplings are very expensive. I suppose they're a monopoly so seems like they can justify the price.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant! The ambiance is beautiful, tucked away beneath St Mary's cathedral. The food was delightful, with an array of options. The food comes out incredibly fast, and the staff were very friendly and professional. One of my favourite places in Sydney!

Absolutely love Bodhi Restaurant! Met a friend in the city and we decided to head to Bohdi on a Friday night (without a reservation). The staff were so lovely and set up an extra table for us in less than 5 minutes, even though they were at capacity. The food is always delicious, the wait staff are super lovely, and the setting is just gorgeous. Highly recommend this restaurant whether you are vegan or not!

Great spot. Had an engagement party here too. Staff were very attentive and helpful.

Vegan prawns were heavily battered. Crispy tofu as mentioned in the menu is not at all crispy. 2 stars for the location, and attentive staff.

watched as waiter placed his private parts in my hamburger. My Uncle ate it anyway don't call it 'vegan chicken' as that is impossible unless the chicken was raised a vegan.

The food was lovely and the staff were attentive. The restaurant is also in a really beautiful location. It's a pretty expensive meal, so not for the everyday lunch but great for special occasions. The biggest issue I had was the lack of COVID Safe practices. Tables were not distanced at least 1.5m apart. Servers who were carrying out the open food to tables were not wearing masks.

Great vibe. There's very few places in Sydney where you can do yum cha outdoors and this is one of them. It's also dog friendly if you get an outside seat. To top it off, all the food is delicious and vegan. You won't miss meat though, everything tastes perfect. I'd highly recommend the sausage buns and the prawn wrapped in rice noodle.

I miss this place so much. A fantastic restaurant with beautiful decor and peaceful surroundings next to the park and cathedral. I can't wait for them to open after lockdown and enjoy the best quality Yum Cha in town.

  • 4/5 Smile 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful isolated place at centre of the city and nice yum cha experience. Loved almost all the platters. Its vegan and obviously they have tried to match the real taste. But being pure vegetarian, the prawn one tasted lil horrible for me. My partner liked it though. Others we tried were so different from each other and tasted delicious. Try different things and explore. Perfect for a small family to try many things with the quantity they serve.

Amazing food, staff and ambiance. The vegan food here will make you give up your non-veg diet.

Best place to have delicious vegan NOG ( no onion and garlic). The first time I went there now, I might put it in quarterly rituals to visit this place. Try delicious neutral meals next time when you visit town hall. The friendly reminder, have a booking in place before your visit. However, they are a pretty accomodating and lovely service team.

Some dishes were great, others were disappointing. Some staff were friendly, others were disappointing. Tiny cocktails, definitely not worth their prices. Great Yum Cha experience if you are vegetarian or vegan. Would do it again but perhaps to try their a la carte menu.

We went to this place during lunch time today. Nice and convenient location.. Absolutely loved the food. We got so involved in food that forgot to take Photos.. Being vegetarian, I do not have to check with the waitress for the item if it is vegetarian or not?.. Tried almost all the variety from the menu. Loved spring rolls and curry puffs. Will definitely go back again and highly recommend this place.

I have been to Bodhi multiple times but this time it was below average. I went their on a special occasion . I felt the service and the food was really not good. I had to leave some of the food as is because it was either too sweet or too oily. I felt food was lacking food taste. I’ll avoid Bodhi especially on my special occasions.

I have gone to Bodhi a bunch of times and the service plus ambience is always great. The food however was decent on this occasion as gnocchi hardly had any flavour and rest of the things were average. I don’t know why we felt that the food was not amazing this time. Overall the experience was good and I would give it another try!

Coming here as someone who doesn’t eat much vegan food I was sceptical. Food was full of flavour! I particularly enjoyed their deep fried egg plant. Food is definitely more on the saltier and oilier side.

Good place to have vegan food. They used to serve yum cha during lunch but better to call and check before going whether post covid they still serve it.They have outdoor sitting with big fixed pole umbrella which holds good even during rain.Prices are on higher sides and for some items price vs quantity doesn't match i.e quantity looks less. But tasye ia good they make vegan duck which has real duck flavor.Indoor sitting can feel bit cramped during busy hours. I made few calls to find if they have parking but each time nobody picked up . Fortunately,I did find public parking(chargable) next to the restaurant.

Love this place! Came here for the first time about 5 years ago and haven’t stopped since! The yum cha is amazing. The only con is how long the drinks take to arrive after ordering, every time they arrive as we are about to finish eating😬 not ideal but we look past it for the great food.

Good service, nice outdoor area. Skewers were really nice and juicy, the rest we had was average. Coffee brulee desert was quite delicious though. Drinks was below enjoyable.

New experience for a dumplings enthusiasm, while you enjoy the vibe of the big tree, like having a dumplings picnic in the park but all the dishes are hot serve fresh from the steamer (or a deep fryer).

Went on Sunday night for dinner and couldn’t of had a better experience. The ambiance, food and service was 10/10. Couldn’t recommend highly enough even as someone who isn’t vegan this place would have you forgetting the difference. Will definitely be coming back, easily a new fave of ours.

As a meat eater, I am always skeptical of vegetarian or vegan restaurants. On top of this, growing up eating some of the best yum-cha's in Sydney, Bodhi had a lot to live up to. To my slight surprise, Bodhi did live up to its reputation. Apart from the beautiful outdoor setting, excellent service and extensive drinks menu, Bodhi offers an incredible range of sights and flavours - somehow emulating many of the yum-cha favourites while maintaining its signature vegan background. Head chef Brooke Ng and her incredible team deserve every bit of praise they receive! As does the RM and his/her team.

I’m not vegetarian but went there to try it out and have to say the food was amazing!! I was really surprised, service was excellent and the Peking Duck tasted exactly like Peking Duck but it wasn’t!! Such a great surprise! All the food was really tasty!

Sublime experience of vegan food. We dined outside under gorgeous trees in the courtyard. Loved the setting and the seating. The food started arriving shortly after we sat down and the offerings didn't stop. Every plate contained something tempting, using fresh and delicious ingredients. Everything was perfectly presented. The staff were wonderful and attentive. Our waitress made excellent recommendations about food dishes and the amazing cocktails on offer. The Tipsy Bunny was a standout as were the vegan desserts. A marvellous gastronomical experience.

Decided to get lunch from this place on my days visit to Sydney. For some reason I don’t like Asian food but after visiting this place I felt i have not eaten from the right places. I enjoyed every dish and loved the variety of options they had. I wish I had that big space where I could try every dish. And not forget the cocktails were the best. I will keep visiting this place.

👍 Best restaurant for South Indian dishes. Worth a try of Biryani. Tried Tandoori Soya today and it was the best I ever had here. Egg65 Biryani was so tasty. Crispy Baby corn was bad seemed like it was not fresh. You should not let your standards drop.
