Spent
four
weeks
at
ABA
and
not
a
day
was
wasted.
Having
studied
Spanish
for
several
years
before
coming
to
Buenos
Aires,
a
part
of
me
worried
that,
if
I
were
put
in
a
class
with
students
of
varying
proficiency
in
the
language,
I
might
not
get
to
really
push
myself
to
improve
orally
or
in
writing.
Thankfully,
there's
a
placement
test
all
new
students
take
before
beginning
the
course
that
ensures
your
teacher
knows
precisely
your
level,
as
well
as
a
short
'interview'
on
your
first
morning
to
find
out
what
you're
looking
to
focus
on
in
class.
I
ended
up
having
mostly
one-on-one
classes,
at
first
with
Federico
–
who
was
brilliant
and
taught
me
tons
about
Argentine
politics,
music,
football,
BA
'lunfardo',
and
everything
else
I
was
curious
about
–
and
later
with
Lucas,
with
whom
I
had
two
weeks
of
seriously
fun
and
engaging
lessons
covering
everything
from
grammatical
differences
between
Argentine
and
peninsular
Spanish,
to
key
issues
going
into
the
presidential
elections,
to
short
stories
by
Fabian
Casas
and
the
philosophy
of
Rodolfo
Kusch.
Both
were
super
friendly,
and
they
struck
exactly
the
right
balance
between
keeping
our
classes
informal
and
making
sure
I
was
making
the
most
of
my
time
at
Academia.
The
many
others
I
met
–
teachers,
students
and
academic
coordinators
alike
–
were
invariably
welcoming
and
smiley.
Rory
(course
administrator)
was
a
massive
help
before
and
during
my
period
of
study,
and
is
at
the
moment
looking
into
volunteering
opportunities
at
one
of
the
school's
partner
organisations
for
me.
Claudia
(academic
coordinator)
was
likewise
always
obliging,
making
sure
to
email
me
ahead
of
time
if
there
was
a
change
in
my
schedule.
The
atmosphere
at
Academia
generally
is
just
appreciably
cheerful,
and
the
school
itself
is
bright
and
airy,
tucked
away
at
the
top
of
an
office
building
a
stone's
throw
from
Plaza
de
Mayo.
Memorable
features:
sunny
rooftop
terrace,
interior
balconies,
nice
coffee.
In
all,
it
was
a
totally
positive
experience
–
not
something
that
can
be
said
for
all
the
people
I
know
who
took
other
courses
in
the
city.
My
one
regret
would
be
not
making
the
most
of
the
complimentary
medialunas
we
got
on
Mondays
