A beautiful old-fashioned cinema renovated just like new, comfortable seats and excellent screen view. They show nice movies. Was there for the Latin American Film Festival, to watch the Uruguayan movie The Employer and The Employee. Excellent experience. Totality recommended visiting! 👌

Love the AFI! Been coming here forever. Parking is pretty easy since there are a lot of garages in the area. The popcorn is good and pretty sure it uses real butter and is a better price than bigger theaters. Cool, eclectic showings. Reasonable prices for tickets. The theaters themselves have a good atmosphere, the seats are comfortable and the rooms are small but not cramped. Highly recommend!

This is an amazing and beautiful cinema close to DC. Their selection of films is great if you’re interested in something beyond blockbusters. I’m a big fan of the Latin American Film Festival that takes place every year, and in general they show great foreign movies. The screening rooms are big and seats are comfortable (but not like the new recliners). Their wine selection is also great.

This theatre is a temple for those who worship film. The various film series they run are excellently varied and curated. The main restored-Silver theatre itself is breathtaking and is one of the best environments I've been in.

Wonderful place. It shows vintage movies, from Golden Age of Cinema. The lobby has an old screen editor and movie camera from the 30’s and 40’s. The theater itself is spacious, old, and charming. And they sell beer , wine, and mead in the concessions, though they are not cheap— the beer was $7. Overall just a great theater.

Overall experience was nice. The historical aspect of the theater 🎥 was dope. We saw Sign O The Times. Needs sound and refreshment improvement....Popcorn was not fresh.

I've been to the theater two or three times, generally for punk rock documentaries. The theater is clean, very convenient as the Metro is 2 to 3 blocks away (and several county parking lots very close by), and they have a nice concession area. The theater I was in had very comfortable, thick padded chairs that had a rocking feature. I was never uncomfortable in the 2+ hours we were seated and there is plenty of legroom. I didn't have any issue seeing the screen and the sound was perfect. Great theater and wouldn't hesitate coming back.

A very good theatre with both first run and repertory showings. They often have festivals and restorations of great films. It’s wonderful to be able to see classics like Apocalypse Now or Seven Samurai on the big screen. The one downside (or at least I see it that way) is that most showings have few if any previews. If you’re there early, that can be nice. But parking is relatively scarce in the area right around the theatre, so if it takes a few minutes to find a place, you can end up missing the beginning of the movie. It’s happened to me several times there. It’s basically never happened at any other theatre. Overall though, it’s a great theatre with a cool selection of films.

Quaint, clean theater in the heart of Silver Spring! We watched CatsVideoFest 2023 this afternoon and enjoyed the experience. Restrooms were adequate, staff seemed friendly and the theater seats were nice. They weren't the big, comfy recliners in larger/newer theaters but they were comfortable and clean. Parking garage was available right off Fenton Street about a block from the theater. Also very close to The Fillmore for musical events. Be prepared to have homeless people ask for money outside the garage (it's the city). Parking garage was $2.50 for two hours and you can use the kiosk or pay by phone.

My favorite place to see a movie. Great selection of classic and current films. Big screens. Tiered seating. Cool cinematic displays in lobby. Close to good restaurants.

Though they had problems with ticketing, the customer service was great. My show was not in the main theater, but I did peek in. The atmosphere really does feel nostalgic and I’m sure this is a great place to see a “feel good” holiday film. My photos are of the newer side.

Best movie theater around for seeing classic films and smaller releases. Great location/building and a friendly staff. It’s a gem.

Love the AFI Theatre - like stepping back in time. Have seen movies with my family members and enjoyed it each time. Great film selections. The four stars regards some glitches with the free membership program. Otherwise it's wonderful!

View "Forgetting Christmas". This is a very informative movie that brings all the emotions of supporting loved ones who are experiencing dementia and alzihimer. The director was awesome A huge thanks to all of you. A must-see - everyone will have this experience at some time in their lives.

The AFI is one of my favorite movie spots. They always have a solid line up of indie movies, award winners, and film festivals all year round. They also have a cute concession stand where they sell wine, beer, and other foods. (Nice bathroom, iykyk)

Went for the European Union Showcase event and was pleasantly surprised. Theater was clean and large for its main theater. Parking was a short walk away and easy to reach with multiple crosswalks.

I'm giving this theater 4 out of 5 stars only because they should invest in more comfortable seats. Excellent movies and documentaries are shown at the theater 🎥. Whoever owns this theater should come and see the seats themselves. Very uncomfortable seating. Everything else was Excellent experience.

AFI Silver has comfortable seats and a nice lobby with freshly made popcorn. The theater also offers a good selection of beer and wine. In addition to popcorn, you can also purchase salads, sandwiches, and hotdogs. There is also a generous selection of snacks. A large parking garage is just two blocks away.

Just an amazing theater. Nice wide seats...space in the aisles to easily pass by. Actually has real aesthetic quality in the building design and interior.

Beautifully restored late art deco period theater built in 1938. Clean. Comfortable seats. Two viewing experiences: the largest theater space being faithfully restored with original art Deco appointments and the smaller space being invested with stadium-style seating. Friendly staff. Serving fresh coffee and other refreshment essentials. Convenient location with eateries close by.

This is a wonderful place. You will have the opportunity to see classic films or new ones. On weekends you can park at the town square garage.

I was there for a special screening, and the managers of the place did nothing to prepare the people at the box office and the ticket takers for folks there for the special screening. I was refused entrance by the woman taking tickets, because "only ticket holders were allowed in" despite the fact that she saw my ticket from Eventbrite. She was sullen and rude, and when the box-office guy finally rose from his slumber in his booth, and recognized that he had not been properly prepped for the event, that the theater was showing up as sold out in his systems, he made the sullen young woman let people in. I will likely not be going back to the AFI Silver Theater. This is the third time I have encountered people working there who were not interested in treating people who were there to see films with respect and care.

Interesting theater. The main theater is much nicer. The seats are more stadium style but not that bad. The food court closes at. I want to say 9:30. Which is crazy. They also pre-filled the popcorn so you can't layer it. There's parking nearby in the garage and it's free after 11:00 I believe

Have seen so many movies here. Always a great selection. Saw EO last weekend. Spoiler alert - very sad movie. Garage parking is free on the weekends.👍 Lots of restaurants around for before and after the show. Seating is comfortable but not reserved so plan ahead. Highly recommend for the true movie buffs.

This is, I think, a refurbished "old" theatre like the Senator in Baltimore, or the Uptown in NW DC. It's very nice, and there are lots of posters, photos and other memorabilia. The theatre shows lots of movies you can't easily see in other theatres. For example, I recently saw E.T. on its 40th anniversary, and saw Cat Video Fest not too long ago. The theatre itself is Art Deco and clean. They serve beer, wine, cider and snacks. The service, such as it is, is quite good. The theatre doesn't sell a lot of tickets, I suspect, but is subsidized by AFI. There's an AMC Theatre about a block away for blockbusters. So it's very nice to have a choice.

Great cinema venue (even if it is just outside the District). Film festivals, repertory selections, and more.

Love this small theatre, there is always a unique selection of films and usually a showcase event going on. The prices are typical. Concessions available include beer and wine. Definitely recommend!!

The AFI is a gem and one of the centerpieces of the Silver Spring community. You can become a member and support the great cause of independent film, or simply visit for the occasional show. It is well worth it either way. This is a great resource in this neighborhood!

Great theater that prioritizes showing features you don’t usually see in other theaters. The international films they show through the year are particularly valuable. Theater is always clean, staff was always very kind.

Had a fun family night here watching a Totoro movie. The theater is clean and has a very cool retro look. The seats aren't recliners, but still very comfortable. The concession stand had all the usual suspects, plus alcohol. They do tons of cool movie themes, definitely worth checking out!
