I'd recommend getting the audio guide to the hospital so you understand the powerful history behind the buildings. It's nice to see the works of Montaner so close up. It's also nice to look at something from the early 1900s. I think they did a great job preserving history. It was a long walk on a sunny day but it was worth it for a history junkie like me!

A very extraordinary experience. The best part was that everything was written in English as well. A hospital build during 1400 and the items preserved are superb. It was a thrilling experience. A hospital museum. Worth it !! Must visit when you are in Barcelona.

Might be the best location to visit in Barcelona! With good building and interior design, and very few people, I have a great time there! Definitely worth the ticket!

Great, underrated place to visit in Barcelona. The hospital is beautiful and intricate, and the historical exhibits are fascinating. On display, you can see medical equipment that was used at the time, but you don't need to be a history/science buff to appreciate it. Both the exteriors and interiors of the buildings are worth seeing, and since it is much less crowded than many other Gaudi designs, you can take your time admiring everything. Despite being a popular attraction, there was no wait to enter and buying tickets on-site was easy. If you have a few days in Barcelona, definitely come visit to admire the colorful, detailed architecture.

Definitely a must see while in Barcelona. Former hospital build around 1910 turned into a cultural and historical place / museum. Each building is unique and the architectural details are astonishing. Hard to describe, you simply have to look at the photos!

We went to see the christmas lights spectacle "Els Llums de Sant Pau" and ended up quite disappointed. Even though the entries were pricey, the most interesting thing in the whole light show was the façade in the main building, which you can already see for free from the main street. During our whole stay of ~2 hours, I kept thinking that it would have been better to visit the hospital during daytime, since the thing that grabbed my attention the most was the architecture and not the lights.

A must see in Barcelona! It’s so interesting to find out the history of this building. Stunning how this was a hospital until only a couple decades ago! Definitely buy the audioguide as well, it gives you a well thought out itinerary to take and tells you everything you need to know about the place.

Highly recommend this place. My wife is a doctor and she found the hospital museum history, architecture and tools really facinating. There is a train that stop within a few mins of this museum so the commute was good to get here from Sagreda Famalia. The entrance was a nice place to take pictures. Unfortunately for some reason the steps that allow better pics were blocked off. We were able to get in free because of the Lisbon Card. We needed to go through a security process similar to that of the airport prior to getting in. The rest of the exhibition was really nice. There was a screening at the entrance of the whole history of the hospital of around 10 mins which was good as we did a fair bit of walking. We continued on artefacts and more detailed history. There were like videos projection on corridors on what it was like working there. We continue onwarda upstairs where there was a library with books on the building and had a brief glance. There were like a dragon model in the next room where on each scale contains a bit more information on aspects. The dragon signifies the designers theme. You can then move on several other buildings outside. One contained hospital beds and more tools with info on them which interesting. The other buildings contained nice architecture and emblems on the building. Overall a good experience and highly recommended for anyone to visit. Give yourself a good 1.5 hours before closing time to get the full experience.

“The most beautiful hospital in the whole world” is not a joke at all! When the first time I saw it, it was breath taking! The structure the interior is magnificent! Definitely worth paying a visit inside! The ceramic on on the roof top is amazing! If there is a chance to visit Barcelona again definitely I would go!

A tourist attraction in Barcelona, being of Catalan modernism design and far less popular and thus not as busy as Gaudi's attractions, sections of this set of buildings that were used as a hospital are now available for the public to view. Being from a different period of architecture to Gaudi's designs, viewing these buildings offers a break from Barcelona's most popular attractions. Also on display are relics of old medical equipment. If you're into this era of architecture and history you should visit and follow the itinerary which includes a few buildings, historical medical exhibits and a set of tunnels used between the buildings. There's also a large outdoor area that's also used for events that you can enjoy with some benches around where you can sit surrounded by the buildings and various trees and mini gardens. Tickets can be purchased online, but as it's not a busy attraction you can buy tickets there directly.

This is a wonderful and interesting place to visit in Barcelona that a lot of people may miss. We only went there because a friend recommended it to us. Get the audio tour and it will take several hours the navigate the entire place. It is an old hospital, originally designed for the poor, with the philosophy that nature, art and open spaces are essential for healing. It was quite progressive for medical practices in its day. And the entire facility is stunningly gorgeous!

Large area walking distance in the city to get to. We came towards the end of the day so we had about 1 hour before closing. We obviously walked pretty quickly but was able to see lots and read lots about the old hospital. Some buildings were closed due to the pandemic but that was as to be expected. The staff were friendly and didn't rush us since we were in the last group. I really loved seeing the old Xray Machine and amazing equipment they had displaced. Great thing to see that's less crowded than the typical touristy places.

To be honest, it wasn’t that excited to visit here. Upon arrival, though, I was in awe! The vision behind this hospital is so impressive. It’s amazing to think that this was ever built! I’m very thankful that they are continually repairing and preserving it for future visitors.

(Translated by Google) Impressive modernist enclosure designed by the architect Domenech i Montaner. One of the many modernist buildings that you can visit in the city. You cannot miss this attraction, whether you are visiting Barcelona for tourism or living in the city. Easy to get to with public transport, if you go by car you can find parking in the blue zone or in paid parking. There is a walk that connects the Sagrada Familia basilica with the hospital, so you can take advantage of and visit these two emblematic buildings of the Catalan capital. I was surprised by a unique architectural building located just a few minutes from the Sagrada Familia. During my last visit to Spain, I managed to visit the main hospital in Catalonia in past, which had a long history. The building of St. Paul's Hospital consists of the main administrative building and 27 medical departments. They are all connected by underground tunnels. The main building houses a library and a church of great artistic value. Each pavilion is designed in a specific style. Audioguide for free and in several languages. When visiting this hospital, you will go back to the 14th century and learn about the history of the building. It operated as a hospital until 2009 and is now a museum. Entry ticket around 15 euros, when I was, I bought with 30 percent discount.

The Hospital is a beautiful architectural complex. Access is limited due to Covid-19. There is a reduced fee for entrance (30% discount) likely because of the limitations. Masks must be worn inside and out, but you won't need to deal with crowds right now, which is a nice bonus.

It is an incredible architectural masterpiece. The fact that this was a public hospital is unbelievable. Descriptions of most of the articles & areas are mentioned at the site, but the audio tour(available in multiple languages) will definitely help you appreciate the beauty & the brilliant minds behind the idea and implementation of this hospital.

A gem hidden in Barcelona. You go to the Sagrada? Just walk few blocks and pay a visit to this ancient hospital that is also an architectural marvel. Reading history, looking at artefacts and walking in the campus will make you want to be sick there, lol. Watch the hours because they close early and sell tickets online that give you only one hour for the visit, it's too short.

Futuristic project about a hospital. It looks great and wel-ornamented from the outside. The hospital of the future is located at Barcelona's suburbs so reaching it isn't an easy task. However, the biggest problem is not the remote location but the ticket prices. I can't imagine how these astronomical prices could be justified. Overall, I would recommend visiting the hospital of the future unless you have a lot of money to spare and you are a true fan of such things.

The Hospital Sant Pau is a beautiful modernist building and a unique gem. The interior is a work of art with beautiful mosaics and colorful stained glass windows. The facilities are top-notch, and the staff is friendly and professional. I'm lucky to live nearby and I've had a great experience visiting this place. The hospital is easily accessible by public transportation, and there is ample parking available for those who prefer to drive. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful. The only downside is that the hospital can be quite busy, and wait times can be long. A true architectural marvel.

If you are going to Barcelona and one or two Gaudi buildings are enough, go here! We planned for two hours and stayed for four. It is informative, beautiful and very peaceful. Loved it, the architecture is just amazing you can spend hours in the garden just looking around. It’s not as touristy as other things therefore there is less people meaning it’s nicer, you can really take your time and enjoy the visit. On a nice warm day I would recommend just sitting in the garden and taking your time to observe the place, the details are just incredible. The exposition rooms are really informative and I really loved the props, it really brings you back into time. It creates a unique atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend.

A truly unique and carefully preserved example of Catalan Modernism. It’s a little out of the main tourist circuit, and so doesn’t get so maddeningly crowded. The buildings are beautiful of course, but the exhibition of early modern medical equipment on display is fascinating and shouldn’t be missed.

This is done by Gaudis teacher. It’s basically a museum hospital. I loved the concept of fancy hospital for the poor but the museum in itself is average at best. Very few things that can get you intrigued and when you leave the place all you remember is the things stated above.

A place with a really interesting history, try to take a guided tour if you can. It feels as if you were walking through a tiny city. Each building is unique with a nice architecture. The building is fabulous but it is completely not properly explored. Only one room replicating the Era?! Come on... And so much advertising on the curgery room and all you can see is an empty room? Not worth the money and being this a place trying to be positioned as a new relevant monument it should have more investment.

This is a stunning collection of buildings. Once the main hospital for Barcelona it is now a museum showcasing architecture from a period of extravagance in Catalan history. From the outside it can feel surprising that such attention to detail was given to a structure that was a hospital. Inside, you are exposed to the ornate detailing and ceramics that are typically found throughout Barcelona. The museum has a small terrace bar outside. It really is worth a visit.

This, you wouldn't expect a hospital complex to look like this, but this is Barcelona. Buildings are gorgeous and the interior gardens feel more like a botanical garden rather than a hospital. Highly recommend visiting it.

A UNESCO world heritage, very old hospital building converted to a restaurant now. Very close the famous Sagrada familia churc. It's majestic and spectacular. Inside, they set up people with make up that'll take you to hundreds of years ago! Internal decoration is also very beautiful. Food is delicious and people serving food are very helpful. Enjoyed the place.

Hospital de la Sant Pau is stunning! The pictures don’t do it justice. Getting there by metro is easy, get off at Guinardo/Hospital de Sant Pau, once you get to the street turn right. You’ll come to the grounds of Hospital sant Pau but will need to walk to the front entrance. You can step inside the gate to take pics but it’s worth the entry to go in. We couldn’t figure out the audio guide so you could save that money.

The campus of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is one of the most impressive hospital campuses that you will likely visit in a lifetime, hopefully for tourism! While this is not the part that is open to tourists for a fee, it is worth taking the time to walk around this sprawling city within a city. At this stage, the hospital has moved to newer buildings and the older buildings serve new purposes including a medical school.

If you already know the architecture of Gaudi, then you must complete your idea of Catalan Modernisme (art nouveau, or secessionism elsewhere) by visiting this architectural and decorative artist Modernisme masterwork. It is stunningly innovative and beautiful. One of my local friends told be that if I got to see nothing else, I should see this - and I can see why! Go here... Travel tip: Funnily enough it took me 4 attempts before I found the right entrance, because the Museum is in the same block as the new hospital, several research centres and a branch of the university... The Museum gate is on the junction of Carrer de Sant Antoni Maria Claret, Avinguda de Gaudi, and Carrer de Cartagena.

  • 4/5 Gökhan K. 2 years ago on Google
I can’t say anything about the architecture, especially the tiles and the decorations with ornaments are amazing! But, you only have access to a few places to get in and see the interior. They have to open other parts of the buildings to visitors. If not, please reduce the ticket price, it doesn’t worth for 15 euros.

The entire site is a jewel of modernist architecture and one of the most important works of Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The visit is well organized and easy to follow without a guide. Its proximity to La Sagrada Familia makes it a perfect brief “side-mission” to your adventure. The visit focuses mainly on the architecture and history of the site. Some rooms were empty and there is more than enough space to be populated with things to see, but I’ll rate it five stars for the pleasant experience.

  • 5/5 Di N. 2 years ago on Google
This is actually the most impressive project in my BCN trip - Domenech’s concept of applying the natural beauty elements in a hospital and how he cares for poor people is just brilliant. From outside this architecture doesn’t seem overwhelming, but actually is one of the biggest demonstrations of Modernisme. Pau Gil, you were a cool billionaire and thanks for the donation thus I still can see this masterpiece in 21sr century 🤣

  • 5/5 Cristi 2 years ago on Google
The architecture, the pavillions, the gardens, they are all superbly restored and turned into a museum. The way the treatment of the patients was done is also impressing, with all the optimizations to a hospital's functions. A bit expensive, but Unesco heritage and unique.

Very interesting place with some nice details about the story behind the project that was undertaken to initally build this facility.. worth a visit for sure but if you are stuck for time in Barcelona maybe put this down your list as there are lots of things to see that we felt were better value for time. Although this is a very good visit and this review is not marking it down at all.. if you have the time dont miss it..

I may be biased but I feel like Barcelona prices way high for visiting museums for what they offer. It was an okay experience, plenty of on site buildings where locked and no access with access to only 2-4 buildings. Architecture is good, history of the building is far more satisfying. I actually enjoyed sitting in the small room with computer where I could access letters and deeds made from 12th century and recorded for public view on those desktops. The room that showed the old X-ray machine was really cool, also so may devices I liked from more than a century ago, like portable motor and eye syringe and anaesthetic delivery kits. Some good work display of building preservation in the administration building. All in all its an okay visit to have in afternoon and lye down in the grass for a small power nap. On the plus side I never seen a museums with so many toilets in one place. Its one toilet after another in every turn. If you have a toilet issues, this is the place to be. It is really clean and open air ventilation, hell I even had number 2 with the window wide open, felt like I was sitting in the peru jungle taking a dump in open air. Its an experience I wont forget. Jokes aside its much better place to visit than the Guadi park or whatever its called, that place was crawling with tourists like ants out to kill its prey! This place is very tranquil, pensioners, doctors and naturists will love it lot!

The Hospital of Sant Cruz y Sant Pau is still a functioning medical institution, undoubtedly of high artistic value. In 1997, UNESCO declared the hospital a World Heritage Site and in 2001 the building received a gold medal from the Government of Catalonia. A visit to the hospital deserves attention, but we must not forget that this is still a functioning hospital.

Sant Pau Hospital is a complex of buildings in Barcelona, Catalonia, built from 1901 to 1930 to the design of Catalan modernist architect Louis Domenech Montanel. It is on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with the Musical Palace of Catalonia. A unique place to see. Quite close to Sagrada Familia. It is a big place, there are sections that you can visit as a museum. It has tremendous detail and architecture.

Very interesting and impressive museum. As far as Catalan Modernism goes it was more worth seeing than most of the Gaudí buildings.

One of its kind of a museum. Never seen anything like this kind of museum which is remnant of old hospital. It is a nice way of exploring the architecture of Modernista era. Admission for adult is 16 euro. Many clean toilets inside which is nice.

A must see if you’re in Barcelona. Awesome historic place with an open courtyard and beautiful architecture. Some rooms are like stepping into the past. If you like to stop to read everything and contemplate the place, you will need around 2 hours and maybe half. I recommend to go by the afternoon after seeing Sagrada Familia! It’s just a short distance walk :).

Really a beautiful thing. Not only the decor is superb' but the story behind the site is inspiring. Designed as a hospital with the concept that to help patients recover their surroundings should be beautiful, colorful and spacious. The audio guide is great and highly recommended. The order in which you walk can be perplexing, but take your time finding the pieces mentioned in the audio guide as each one reveals another great aspect or story that comprises this experience. It will take you roucghly 2 hours to walk the grounds and it is highly recommened.

Such tranquility and beauty to enhance quality health care. The architect really cared for the sick. We ended up just sitting in a few places inside and out for a while. It sounds weird to say a whilwind tour of Barcelona can be enhanced in a new dimension of peace by coming here for three hours.

Beautiful and worth a visit! Hospital de Sant Pau was designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It was built during 1901 to 1930 making it the oldest hospital in Spain. The structure displays the legacy of Barcelona during the 19th century and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997. Lluis Domènech i Montaner always worked with the intention of serving people and their health, he built a hospital that, as a total work of art, offered color and freshness instead of sterility. As a visitor, you feel completely at ease and wonder why today's hospitals aren't built like that. Hospital Sant Pau is a modernist hospital that was fully functional until 2009 when it was closed down and restorations began. Today it is a museum and historical site that is well worth a visit. Hospital Sant Pau is only a short walk from La Sagrada Familia - Gaudi's famous basilica (I was showing few photos yesterday). You could easily combine a visit to the Sagrada Familia with Hospital Sant Pau. Tickets 🎫 cost £13,78 for adults and kids under 11 can visit for free with discounts available for seniors and young people. It is the largest complex of Art Nouveau in the World.

This was an amazing place that has a very long history and they have kept some of the wards as they were at the beginning of the 20th century. I found it incredibly historical with the medical instruments and the stories that are in Catalan/Spanish/English that explain its history. For anyone that has been in a hospital this shows how far healthcare has advanced in the last hundred years. The hospital is much older than that. The architecture design is incredible compared to the non-descriptive hospitals we see nowadays. Enjoy the architectural design from one of Barcelona’s best and learn medical history as well.

This is a fantastic and interesting place to visit. All the displays are not only factual but presented in a modern style that gives a great impression of the history and background.

Wonderful architectural masterpiece. We visited it before Christmas, when majestic and complex light projections took place.

Another masterpiece in Barcelona. Never saw a hospital converted to a museum. The place is calm as a hospital should be. Amazed to see the design thinking of the architect with isolated building connected with tunnels. The place has numerous equipment used for healthcare on display. Highly recommend to visit this place. This is usually less crowded and tickets are available on slot.

This hospital, which is now open as an art & architectural exhibit to the public, is one of the wonders in the city of Barcelona. The architecture is amazing, and the mosaic and design patterns of the tiles are remarkable.

If you are on the lookout for architectural curios, this place should definitely be on your list in Barcelona. A bit of a hidden gem, this hospital and park complex boasts a long (over 600 years) history of treating the body and the soul. A lot of information to be gathered from all the displays and exhibits, coupled with the unique architecture make this a worthwhile visit

It's a world heritage centre of an old hospital in Barcelona. Its good to visit when you are in Barcelona. There is not much crowd and you can book the tickets directly here. There are so many buildings covered in this visit and the constructions were really beautiful. It will take one to two hours to finish seeing the complete buildings

I'm so glad we visited here. The history of the hospital is fascinating. The architecture is amazing... gorgeous. I hope they restore the gardens, too as that was a particularly important aspect of patient care there. I highly recommend seeing this complex for anyone interested in art and architecture as well as medical science.

This used to be a hospital that operated until 2009 and in 2014 it opened again, but as a museum. It consists of 12 buildings. I recommend to pay a visit - some buildings are very beautiful inside. No reservation needed - we payed at the entrance.

This place is quite beautiful, and the interiors of the former hospital is just amazing. I suggest taking an audio tour so that you can watch rather than focusing on reading texts. People under 30s, you will have some per cent off on your visiting fees 😁. Tour takes minimum 2 hrs so mindful of time.

Had visited on Christmas Day so wasn’t able to enter the premises and tour their famous gardens. The architecture was stunning from the outside and it wasn’t very crowded either, since this marvel is not on the radar for most typical tourists. Lots of nice bars and restaurants nearby as well, so it’s a great place for the end of the day or around lunch time.

Beautiful Modernist inner yard and building complex with lovingly arranged Christmas decorations, animations, projections, lighting, and music, which can be visited following a recommended route or at one's own discretion. Not only children but also adults will be mesmerized by the creativity and love for detail.

A bit underrated in my opinion, as it’s not usually included among the top Barcelona places to see. The architecture is beautiful, very pleasant visit. I’ve also been to Christmas and candlelight events and it’s super organized and beautiful.
