Plaça del Rei is small square composed of bare stone, gothic architecture. It has no markets, no restaurants or pubs, which makes for an austere small plaza that's unfriendly to visitors and fairly grim to behold. It is on the other hand architecturally impressive and the preserved gothic buildings are quite striking in their severity. As with a lot of places in Barcelona this square was "helped" to look more gothic as one of the buildings (Casa Padellàs) was moved here from another part of town in the 1930's.

Simply amazing and quiet plaza where the museum of history of Barcelona is located, behind the Cathedral of Barcelona, and you can hear the bells at the top of the hour. I highly recommend it!

Love this place in the dark! The lit tower is so pretty! Good drinks in the square. Perfect for a night cap! We was lifted of our belongings just up the street so believe the rumours and keep your money/mobile safe!

I visited in the evening due to schedule, but I was struck by its scale and grandeur. If you know the history of Spain, every place has meaning. In the statue, if the horse is raising its right foot, it is said to be a king who was assassinated, and if the horse is standing with both feet on the ground, it is said to be a king who died while living up to his orders. Spain's history becomes more interesting the more you learn about it.

Plaça del Rei, nestled in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, is a historical gem that captivates visitors with its timeless charm. This cobblestone square is a picturesque embodiment of Catalonia's rich history and architecture. A magical place to visit day and night.

It is a monumental square, surrounded by Gothic and Renaissance buildings, most of which are part of the Palau Reial Major complex, which in the past was the residence and seat of government of the counts of Barcelona and later of the kings of the Crown of Aragon. Come here and take pictures of the outside. The museum is not worth paying for. You go underground look at some old bricks that are in ruin. There’s no audio or video tour. Not that interesting in my opinion.

Plaça del Rei (Spanish: Plaza del Rey, meaning "King's Square") is a 14th-century medieval public square in the Barri Gòtic of Barcelona, Spain.[1] The square is surrounded by the Palau Reial Major including the Saló del Tinell, the Palau del Lloctinent ("Lieutenant's Palace"), the 15th-century tower Mirador del Rei Martí ("King Martin's Watchtower"), and the Capella Reial de Santa Àgata ("Royal Chapel of St Agatha"). On its southern side stands Casa Padellàs (Padellàs's House) a 15th–16th century palazzo moved here stone by stone from Mercaders Street in 1931 and since 1943, has housed the Barcelona City History Museum (MUHBA).

A very special and historical square at the center of Barcelona. I find it particularly beautiful. It is surrounded by gothic and renaissance buidlings, with a beautiful monumental staircase at the vanishing point. It hosts the Historic Museum of Barcelona (MUHBA) and sometimes outdoor events. There is also a sculpture by Eduardo Chillida and a cozy terrace.

(Translated by Google) The Plaza del Rey in Barcelona to my understanding and seeing is the most beautiful square in Barcelona due to its monumentality and history: Santa Ágata, el Tinell, the former seat of the Inquisition that was later used to house the archive of the Crown of Aragon. What I don't like at all is the sculpture, I think by Chillida, popularly called EL PIXADOR (El Meadero) because of the shape it has, and even because of the unscrupulous use of it. I also don't like that they put tables and chairs from a bar in it.

Its layout is rectangular due to the urbanization project that was carried out in the second half of the fourteenth century, during the reign of Martí l'Humà. It was proposed to make a rectangular square to tour and eliminate the traditional market. It is surrounded by Gothic and Renaissance buildings and closed on all sides except the south-western end, which communicates with the Cathedral. Due to its well-closed structure and sound, traditional concerts and other shows are usually held.

Every description is available in three languages; Spanish, Catalan and English. The museum have a great illumination and beautiful pieces from the Roman empire I almost forgot to mention the ruins, a very cool place if you ask me. Specially if you're into ancient history

What a beautiful place. Must visit, in my opinion. And according to our city guide lots of history happens right there and you can kind of hear the walls talk about it. Check it out!

Beautiful Roman quarters. Should walk around and see the remains of the bath houses, the Roman columns.

I only saw the outside at night, but with the lights, the whole plaza lit up and made the rustic vibe very modern while still preserving the essence and originality of the Plaza.

A cosy place to hang out at night with friends and loved ones. They is a bar at the plaça. You can enjoy the tranquility whilst having a drink. The prices for the drinks are so reasonable. I highly recommend.

Lovely placa but with almost no shade and if you are visiting during hot summer days the only shade and chill can be find because of the high walls and the sun position. Come here at evening.

My beloved place in Barcelona after dark. Quiet, beautiful corner of gothic Quarter. Decent restaurant with drinks and basic tapas.
