Magnetic authentic place, Chinguetty built in 13th century AD (1262 AD). But it's not the whole information. Outside the city there is an ancient mosque and minaret built in 8th century AD (777 AD), which are not on the maps, you can ask locals about this place and hire a local taxi driver who will agree to take you there. Ancient city Chinguetty, built in 8th century AD, also known as Abeer, is buried in the sand, but you can see the mosque and minaret. Abir is located 3 km east of the old Chinguetty, but only locals know the way through the desert to it. So, hire the local taxi and go to this unknown location.

"Magnificent piece. Unfortunately, you cannot enter if you're not Muslim, which is a little disappointing and sad. However, you can easily go up to the rooftop of a neighboring house to get a good view of the mosque."

The oldest mosque in Mauritania in the most spiritual city in the country. This mosque has a unique feeling, a unique sent and architecture you don’t find anywhere else. I was thrilled to see it, to enter it and to witness a sunset beside it. I would definitely come back, hopefully for a longer period.

In the middle of a desert stands an oasis city that has stood for over 800 years. Chinguetti and its famous mosque are remnants of an ancient tradition of faith that still exists in Mauritania - where almost everyone is still sent to Quran school to memorize the Quran. Alongside being a centre of learning, the mosque was for many years the gathering point of West Africans planning the pilgrimage to Makkah.

Jama Mosque at Chinguetti, Mauritania, built in13th-14th century is an historical mosque. The mosque is in continuous use since then. It is a very remarkable thing.

Schönes ungewöhnliches Minarett. Sieht eher aus wie ein Wehrturm

The most picturesque place of chinguetti. Unfortunately no Muslim can’t enter but you still can get a pic through the doors. Make sure you climb up for best views!!
