Note if you are a WOMAN looking to pray the Friday prayer in congregation, you WILL NOT be able to do so. You cannot hear the sermon or the prayer from the ladies' prayer room even though there is a screen and loud speakers! Asked the mosque (Hanafi) and they said it is to encourage women to pray at home! Writing this as many tourists were waiting for the sermon and for prayers to start. Downstairs men were already praying. Note that the Friday prayers are however livestreamed on Facebook, but just not in the ladies' prayer room. #SideEntrance #viewofawoman

RECOMMENDATION LEVEL: HIGH IT IS THE FAMOUS & HISTORICAL MOST OF MAURITIUS. IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC OUTSIDE OF THE PRAYING TIME. RIGHT DRESS CODE IS RECOMMENDED.

One of the most serene and peaceful place in Mauritius. If you're mentally tired, stressed and looking for peace of mind, that's the place to be. Make sure you're dressed conviniently, as it's a place of worship. Entrance is free, take a seat, let your mind and heart feel the intensity of comfort and rest that this beautiful place gives to the visitors and worshippers.

The Jummah Mosque formerly "Mosque of the Arabs", is a mosque in Port Louis, Mauritius dating from the 1850s. The building combines Indian, Creole and Islamic architecture. The Jummah Mosque houses the remains of Jamal Shah in a marble tomb next to the mosque.

I stumbled upon Jummah Masjid while exploring the local market, and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. This mosque is not only a place of worship but also a beautiful and well-maintained architectural gem. The spacious interior provides a peaceful atmosphere for prayer, and the meticulous upkeep is evident. One unique feature that caught my eye was the lovely fish pond, which adds to the serenity of the surroundings. It’s a serene touch to this spiritual place. The location is convenient, making it accessible for both tourists and locals. Overall, my visit to Jummah Masjid was a memorable one, combining spirituality with aesthetics. I recommend it not only for prayers but also as a cultural and architectural gem to explore in Port Louis.

I give only 3⭐️ because of cool serene atmosphere even during hot summer of Port Louis and the beauty of the ancient infrastructure. However the mausoleum of a Saint as narrated by many is not in a correct place facing almost the Qiblah. I wonder what was the intention and the need to bury a Saint in front of a mosque this does not sound correct and logical as prayer is for Allah alone. We do not pray in front of a buried Saint. It seems that it is a sufi thing to do and completely normal for them. Furthermore the management of the establishment need to include more brilliant people outside of the memon society in their board and treat people of different origins equally with respect and stop imposing their ancestor's Gujurati culture and urdu speaking as these are not islamically related and only serve as to boost their already inflated ego. They need more openmindedness and bring preachers and hafiz from Arabic or African countries specially during Ramadan for Taraweeh.

I called to enquire regarding availability of a particular book. They said they have it. So I took a holiday just to go buy the book. When I went there, the person was unable to locate it. The one who said it was available, was not present and not picking the phone. There need to be a change in the administration.

The Mosque and infrastructure are amazing. The control over the people who come in and go out is great, ever since covid came around. It is a rather comforting place to be. The people who voluntarily keep the place in a good condition are to be rewarded by God, Ameen. The wudhu khana and open library are phenomenal. However, the toilets could be improved on just a little bit. Fortunately, there are various choices of toilets available but their maintenance could be improved. Also, the people working around the mosque could learn some good manners as bad manners are unbefitting of Muslim societies. Overall 3/5 stars.

Die Moschee selbst ist klein und nicht sehenswert, wir durften nur bis zur Abgrenzung des Innenhofs, die Toiletten waren so gruselig, dass wir es uns lieber verkniffen haben und wieder gegangen sind.

This masjid is a rare piece of 19th century architectural beauty in Mauritius. Unfortunately, it seems to be in ruins and not properly looked after especially the parts above the ground floor.
