I
brought
my
father
here
for
treatment.
He
had
suffered
a
stroke
and
has
chronic
kidney
disease.
After
treatment
in
their
ICU
for
more
than
fifteen
days,
he
is
barely
conscious,
cannot
speak
or
move
his
limbs
and
is
bed-ridden.
After
much
pain
and
suffering
for
the
whole
family
and
spending
nearly
Rs.
5
lakhs,
he
is
nearing
death.
He
was
in
a
much
better
condition
upon
admission.
He
was
conscious,
able
to
talk,
eat
with
a
spoon,
could
move
all
his
limbs
and
walk
with
help.
The
amount
of
anguish
that
I
faced
in
here
is
indescribable!
In
fact,
I
had
complained
about
their
maltreatment
to
the
Chief
Minister’s
Office.
The
Chief
Secretary’s
(Shri
Tom
Jose
IAS)
Office
instructed
the
Collector
of
Pathamthitta
(who
has
jurisdiction
in
the
district
where
this
hospital
is
located)
to
investigate
immediately
and
when
asked
for
an
explanation,
the
hospital
management
lied
to
the
Government
of
Kerala,
telling
them
that
my
father
was
brought
here
unconscious!
I
was
born
and
raised
in
Dubai,
therefore
do
not
have
much
of
an
idea
about
the
healthcare
system
in
Kerala.
The
management
style
that
I
witnessed
in
Pushpagiri
is
primarily
focused
on
extracting
as
much
money
from
a
patient’s
family
as
possible
and
still
offers
mediocre
treatment.
I
have
seen
many
patient’s
relatives
cry
outside
their
ICU
due
to
the
exceptionally
high
bills
and
no
improvement
in
the
patient’s
condition.
Many
patients
admitted
here
were
able
to
walk
when
they
arrived,
but
are
now
bed-ridden.
A
majority
of
them
have
passed
away
since,
as
their
condition
had
deteriorated
to
a
great
extent
post
admission.
In
my
case,
the
hospital’s
explanation
is
that
my
father
was
unconscious
upon
admission
(which
is
not
true,
I
have
eye-witnesses
that
can
testify
to
the
contrary),
that
he
suffered
a
massive
stroke
while
admitted
in
the
ICU
(inspite
of
them
having
access
to
the
most
expensive
medicines
and
equipment)
and
that
he
received
the
best
care
possible
(which
any
educated
individual
can
deduce
is
a
desperate
CYA
tactic
when
questioned
by
the
Government).
To
add
to
this,
some
of
the
doctors
here
(many
of
whom
are
PG
students)
are
extremely
devious
and
enquire
about
your
family
background,
employment,
place
of
residence
(working
abroad,
relative’s
profession
...),
etc.,
in
a
very
friendly,
casual
and
unassuming
manner
and
in
the
guise
of
finding
out
the
patient’s
history,
to
gauge
your
financial
position
and
political
clout.
I
was
auto-charged
for
a
packet
of
12
Refresh
bed
wipes
by
their
billing
department
at
9
a.m.,
every
single
day
for
all
the
15
days
that
my
father
was
admitted
in
their
ICU.
If
they
use
12
bed
wipes
daily
on
a
bed-ridden,
geriatric
patient,
his/her
skin
will
break
down
and
bleed!
This
is
just
a
minor
example
of
their
unjustified
billing
practices,
so
focused
on
profiteering
from
a
desperate
relative’s
situation
that
they
will
not
release
or
allow
a
patient
to
be
transferred
till
one
clears
their
hefty
(and
unethical)
bill.
I
saw
many
patient's
relatives
literally
pleading
with
their
billing
department
-
frustrated,
sleep-deprived
and
helpless.
Their
PRO
even
admitted
to
me
that
their
monthly
revenue
is
normally
above
Rs.
8
Cr.
and
that
they
are
making
only
Rs.
3
Cr.
nowadays,
owing
to
the
limited
number
of
patients
due
to
the
lockdown,
so
they
have
to
charge
every
visiting
patient
as
much
as
possible!
I
was
shocked!
My
father
will
never
walk
again
and
will
probably
die
in
a
few
months.
It
will
be
my
life-long
regret
that
I
brought
him
here
and
that
I
will
not
get
a
second
chance
to
start
over.
My
sincere
gratitude
to
the
Chief
Minister's
(Shri
Pinarayi
Vijayan)
Office
for
intervening
in
an
extremely
swift
and
efficient
manner
to
save
my
father's
life
or
else
he
would
have
passed
away
on
their
ventilator
