This Devi temple at Valayanad had its own distinct identity and is different in several respects from other Devi temples in this country. The Valayanad Devi Temple in Kozhikode one of the rate “Saktheya Temples” where pooja is performed in accordence with practice of “Rurujit” worship. The presiding diety of this temple is the goddess from Kashmir, known as “Chandika” which is also called “Mahartham” and ‘Kalasarppini’. The priests of this temple who perform pooja according to “Saktheya” injunctions in this temple are Moosads who follow Kashimiri way of worshipping. Another peculiar aspect of this temple is that the “Sreechakra” designed by the great Sivayogi Thayyavur Sivasankar remains in the sanctum.

Traditional ambiance.. The guruthi might be finished after 9 or 10 pm and prasad will only be disturbed by then but we have to bill it very early. Women are not allowed to enter during the guruthi time .

Finding parking for your four wheelers will be a task, especially on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This a very calm quiet place. Those who cannot climb the steps can use the other way behind the main road, which many people are bit aware off .

It's a very nice Devi temple located at Valayanadu,Govindapuram,Kozhikode. This is one of the oldest temples at Calicut ,the atmosphere is really holistic, devotional and peaceful. You can prefer to come by own vehicle ,Bus or Auto rikshas.Bus stop is at the front side of the temple itself.Parking spaces are there outside the temple.

Dedicated to Maa Bhagwati, this is one amongst the most famous and lively temple in Kozhikode. Constructed in a famous Kerala style, once you are inside the temple it gives you immense peace and inner power. No pants, shirt inside. You can carry your mobile in silent mode. Even can carry your shirt on shoulder half wearing.

Valayanad Bhagavathi is the family deity of the Zamorin Kings ( Padinhare Kovilakam), who ruled Kozhikode in the medieval period. Legends say that in a fight between the Zamorin and Valluva Konathiri (the king of Valluvanad), the Zamorin got defeated in spite of having better military and financial might. The Zamorin pondered this, and decided that the Bhagavathy's blessings were with Valluvakonathiri. The Zamorin undertook Tapas in disguise, at Thirumanthamkunnu temple, the family temple of Valluvakonathiri, until Devi manifested before him. The Zamorin requested Bhagavathy to come to his kingdom. While they were traveling, Devi told Zamorin that whenever he hesitates and turns back to check whether Devi was with him, she will return immediately. After some time, when the jingling of her dance-bells could not be heard, the Zamorin looked back. Immediately Devi told him that she wouldn't come any further, but as a reward for the Zamorin's devotion, she would throw her bangle, and the spot where it fell would have her presence. This bangle rotated for a week and landed at the place where the temple now stands. The place where the bangle rotated for a week came to be known as Azhchavattom and the place where the bangle fell became Thiruvalayanad.

This is a unique Devi Temple in this area. This is Saptha Maatruka Temple. In the garbha gudi (Sanctum Santorum) we can have darshana of all the Seven Mother Deities. Big temple - Kerala Style. You habe first climb the stairs and then enter into the temple - take care tha men should enter bare chested and wearing a dhoti or a panche and ladies ot is preferably a saree / chudidar. There are temples of 1- Sri Matha Saraswati Devi 2- Lord Ganesha 3- Lord Shiva 4- Lord Ayappa 5- Important Deity Apart from the main Seven Mother Deities. Daily pooja happens here and it is a fantastic - calm - serene place. If you have not brought any dhothi / panche etc - there is a shop right opposite to the temple where you can buy one. Kindly visit this place once. Nearby Landmarks 1- Thali Temple 2- NSTI Calicut / ATI Calicut 3- Kozhikode Beach

I basically love most temples in Kerala not because my native is Kerala but for the divinity and tranquility. It's so calm, clean and so very different from other temples. Tend to get so much of positive vibe.

Peaceful. I had been to the temple in 2020. Today, I had the second visit 19 March 2022. Sharing some pics. It is prohibited to take pics inside the temple, but taking pics outside is allowed. There is also a 'kutti chathan' temple outside.
