Historical Durga Devi temple, it is very huge temple but from outside it may look smaller. This temple has got beautiful mural paintings and sculptures. Inside of this temple I noticed more than 3 wells and I had no idea about it. Must visit place with family. Had a good experience, positive vibes, inner peace ✌️ Facility: cars and bus parking available. Note: In an around this temple you cannot expect food with good quality.

The temple is located in Kozhikode associated with martial arts kalaripayattu of Kerala. The temple complex houses three temples: those of Goddess Durga, Shiva and Vishnu. warriors like thacholi odhenan used to pray here before each duel 🤺.. there is museum nearby regarding the kalaripayattu ..it’s an historic place with lots of stories to tell…there is 1 or 2 large temple ponds also known as “chira” located nearby temple…plenty of parking places are available

2000 years old temple Vishnu is in true sense, north meet south. Simple straight line architecture, with wall paintings with naturally available dyes. The business community, as they were called vaishyas, migrated to Kerala to improve the business with china and Europe, due to closeness of ports, built these temples. Easy access to temple, neat and clean.

There is separate temples for devi, Shiva and Vishnu. Should be wearing a dhothi if you're planning to enter these temples. The pond is on the backside and water is super clear.

Lokanarkavu Temple, a well-known pilgrim centre in northern Kerala, is frequently referred to in the Vadakkan Pattukal (ballads of North Kerala). It is believed that the legendary hero Thacholi Othenan was a devotee of the goddess, Lokanarkavilamma. The temple dedicated to Goddess Durga is renowned because of its intimate association with the valiant heroes and heroines of the northern ballads. The temple is famous for its wall paintings as well. These fascinating murals are centuries old, making the temple a protected heritage site of the Kerala Archaeology Department. Exquisitely painted using natural colours, the murals include depictions of gods and goddesses. They also contain erotic art, which is rarely found in northern Kerala temples. The annual festival of Lokanarkavu is celebrated on Pooram asterism in the Malayalam month of Meenam (Mid-March- Mid April). Poorakkali is a folk artform popular in the northern part of Kerala. During the annual festival, Poorakkali performances are conducted here. Lokanarkavu is believed to be the family temple of the Aryans who migrated to Kerala. Even now, their descendants have special rights here. Thacholikkali, a fusion of various art forms including Kathakali, Kolkali, and Velakali, is exclusively performed at this temple.

Lokanarkavu is a short form of Lokamalayarkavu which means lokam (world) made of mala (mountain), aaru (river) and kavu (grove).Pooram is the important festival here and it is conducted with great pomp and show. The week-long festival begins with Kodiyettam (flag hoisting) and concludes with Arattu. The temple dedicated to goddess Durga has great historical importance as Thacholi Othenan, the legendary martial hero of Kerala, used to worship here every day.

A place so rooted in the folk lore that you can't miss it. Well maintained. There is lot of new construction happening now to provide amenities to visitors. I wish they did not reduce the old world charm of the place.

Lokanarkavu Temple in Vadakara is serene and blissful. This renound temple is famous for separate temples of Lord Vishnu, Bhagwati Devi and Lord Shiva in the same temple complex. The Vishnu Temple is believed to be 2000 years old, the Bhagwati temple is around 1300 to 1500 years old and Shiva temple is comparatively newer and is about 400 years old. Had good darshan here.

Nice temple. Three deities are bhagavathi, shiva and Vishnu. wear dhoti while visiting shiva and Vishnu temple. It's written there outside. Gents from our family couldn't enter as they were wearing pants. And we were not aware of this until we read it there.
