Exceptionally busy in an evening. I would suggest the ventilation is fairly poor in the basement and there is a strong odour a lot of the time. It would be decent gym if people had any etiquette, but virtually every single piece of equipment is out of place, and the concept of putting weights back on racks, which are conveniently numbered with the same number as the weight, just doesn't exist. You would think students could count to 10, unfortunately not.

Great gym. Nice and clean and open 24 hours...one less star for the rubbish music and weird adverts that come on really loud on the speakers. Great if you are anti social though and like to just bang your headphones on and get on with it.

I joined this gym the first time in 2019 and been working out for almost 2 years. I quit and now I'm back and it hurts to say, this gym has gone downhill. It's extremely unorganized and going there during the rush hour (evening time) is a mistake. Nobody to enforces the rules so members typically drop weights everywhere, walk around shirtless, block the way and just generally make the working out experience as unpleasant as possible. The toilets and showers are still as neglected as ever and some machines have been "out of service" for almost 3 months now. Only 1 way to fix this gym: Bring in staff who's job is to enforce the rules! The only reason why I still workout in this gym and not giving it a 1 star review is because of my good memories there. Not only it's nowhere near as it was before, but now the gym is so bad to the point I'm considering to move out of it!

If your workout requires access to a power rack, this gym is not for you. Despite its massive size, this gym has only 2 or 3 power racks, which is nowhere near enough for a facility this busy. I've read other reviews, and I am convinced there is an automated bot that replies to every review which complains about poor access to equipment. The Gym Group suggests to use their live tracker to check how busy their gym is. However, that tracker can not be trusted. There are not enough free weights and power racks, but there is an excess of treadmills and other machines which are always free. So if you measure an average of that, the gym is always at something like 40% capacity. However, if you were to actually go to the gym, you will have to wait in line for a long time to bench press or squat. But there will be hundreds of free treadmills, so i guess you can go for a jog. What makes it worse is poor culture. In most gyms it is frowned upon to hog the power rack or bench press for yourself for more than 20, 25 minutes. But it is quite common to see a group of students working out together, and the unfortunate side effects of that is they dont take exercise seriously and end up occupying equipment for eternity, the equipment that is already scarce. Anyone who requires access to power rack, stay away from this gym. There are many other gyms nearby which are a fraction of this gym's size, but have twice or three times the freeweight equipment.

Very overcrowded gym, terrible WiFi, hardly any weightlifting space, lack of weight plates and dumbbells. By far the worst Gym I've ever visited. (Join Liberty instead)

Toilets are cleaned once per day which is not enough for the number of people coming to train here. Today not even the toilet rolls. Most of the machines are broken and some of them have been broken since I joined the gym. The weights are a mess all day long. I've been training in many "the gyms" in the country and this has been the worst so far. Not sure if my partner and I will continue to come here.

This gym is a mistake. People who go there wearing balaclavas, flipflops, and no shirts. Sometimes I think I'm somewhere in the slums of Compton. Nobody controls what's going on there. The equipment is often damaged. During the school season, when students are in town, there is no point in going there, because the gym is full of people who don't really come there with the intention of building or training their bodies. They come there to talk, laugh, and read posts on Facebook. Fortunately, this is not the only gym in town...

Conveniently located but it does get VERY busy. They have about 1000 machines (exaggerated for comic effect of course) but only 3 (not exaggerated) squat racks. Has every type of gym goer from the old man with 2kg to the geezers clearly on steroids.

It's rarely quiet enough to get onto a squat rack which, if you want to squat, is a bit of an issue. There's a lot of space for stretching etc and while this is good, I think they should use some of it to put in extra racks. I don't really need to stretch when I haven't been able to do any heavy lifting, again. I feel my strength dwindling, each time I attend this gym and can't do free weight stuff, which defeats the purpose of being a member.

This gym used to be better before the refurbishment. Now it's constantly crowded, the 'a little busy' on here means it's packed out. Students swarm the gym like ants. It was a lot better before, it's become too much of a sell-out gym now

Plenty of equipment, but stuff and manager have no respect for people. They will wash your brain by playing two different loud musics at the same time mostly rap and pop. No idea what is the point to do that, after reporting that to manager and stuff they will stop one of songs but next day is over again. If you are deaf then is no better gym for you.

Terrible gym. Unwelcoming staff, poor layout, impossibly busy most of the time. Poor attitude from membership who habitually leave equipment in a mess. For some reason only 2 bench press and 2 squat racks despite them both being popular exercises. Only plus points are the pricing - which is reasonable - and the 24hr access. Overall though - I don't recommend at all and it's probably the worst gym i've ever used.

I joined this gym 3-4 months ago as i needed a change of workout scenery. The gym itself is fine - has plenty of equipment which is kept to a good standard and the gym is kept very clean etc, the monthly membership is also good value for money at only £17 p/m HOWEVER - the gym is just simply too busy - i finish work at 5pm everyday - i go straight to the gym afterwards everyday - and everyday the gym is packed and i am having to wait sometimes over 30 minutes just to get on a squat rack. Fundamentally, people go to a gym to exercise - and with the sheer amount of people at this gym - it prohibits you from being able to do this effectively. So if you want to have an effective workout and hit all your goal in a timely manner - i would suggest a different gym. if you want to take photos of yourself in the mirror, this is the place for you. EDIT - I thought I’d give this place a second try a year later - it is LITERALLY busy from 11am all the way untill 10pm so unless you attend at an unsociable time, you are probably going to be waiting around for equipment. P.s the dumbbell area is TOO busy ALL the time. There’s never a bench or squat rack free. Increase your free weight section. Probably the last time I’ll try here - during student season it’s unbearable

Been going to this gym for 5 plus years so I might as well give it a review... Has everything you need for a great workout but thats if you can use the equipment. Way too busy most of the time due to it being in the city centre. Also air conditioning breaks a lot so be ready to workout in what it feels like a sauna most days.

There are 7-8 injured equipinments. There are 4 stairs machinery but 3 of them are injired. It hasn't been repaired for weeks. Already a busy Gym center. Even though I change my visiting hours because it is busy, my muscles get cold due to equipment malfunction and my working out has been wasted. I only took a photo there are much more injured machines

THIS BELLY HAS TO GO!! I am so fed up of feeling fat and disgusting so joined The Gym, I'm no way an expert on this but honestly after using a few machines and other equipments I'm feeling alot more positive and that's after 2 visits. The staff and customers are very friendly, if you are unsure you can ask anyone and they help. You see all types of people trying to better themselves and The Gym really is a friendly judgemental free safe space. Very clean and tidy with loads of equipment.

The equipment is not cleaned enough, make sure you clean the saddles and seats before you get on. The lockers are mostly damaged and cannot be locked. The staff are very letchy and can form a very clicky atmosphere, the manager doesn’t seem to have control of the PT’s and is rarely ever there. Any complaints about the PT’s are not investigated properly and the PT’s word is taken as gospel. The City gym is a poor example of the gym group and you certainly get what you pay for at city gym, consider it the Aldi middle aisle version it will do the job but you get the sneaky feeling you are missing out.

I hate this gym. It is always completely full, you will have to wait for a rack or a bench even at the ‘quietist’ times. I try to go around 10-2 if I can fit it in with my work schedule but it is as busy as the average gym at 6pm. I wouldn’t even bother going in the evening. The people there have no respect, weights are left lying around everywhere and are never put back in the correct place making work outs frustrating. Why is it so hot!? I walk down the stairs and I am already sweating? It’s like they actually put heating on. I have been to many other gym group gyms and this is by far the worst in my opinion.

I enjoy my workouts here, but there's always so much broken equipment and probably half the lockers are broken too. Not really sure if it's worth £20+ per month. Either sort the problems or bring prices down.

apparatus was ok, but I found this gym lacked proper ventilation and although it was brightly lit I feel it could do with windows. I really wanted to like it and bought a day pass to try but just do not feel this is for me. also, the water machine was broken which was upsetting after my workout.

I’ve been going to this gym for years and used to thoroughly enjoy training here, however as the price has increased through the years, this definitely doesn’t show inside the gym itself. The gym will close for 2 days for what they say is a freshen up but nothing changes, not for the members anyway. I rarely see any new equipment in there which is disappointing to say how much money this branch will be making, especially with the prices of memberships increasing. Realistically you should be putting back into the gym what you are gaining from the members, and this unfortunately isn’t being done. The air con is very rarely on and if it is on, you cannot feel a sufficient amount of it leaving you having to go outside for fresh air or sweating so much that you cannot enjoy your work out. It gets even worse when there is a lot of people in there and this in my opinion should be when the air con is at its maximum as you genuinely feel like you cannot catch a clean breath. There is a lot of equipment and only two squat racks downstairs, which makes it very hard to use the equipment during very busy times. This gym can get extremely busy and crowded, and given the size of the floor space it seems disproportionate to keep taking on members, thus making it even more crowded and harder to get on equipment. All in all I would say that this thegym branch has gone down hill massively over the past 5 years and it’s really disappointing to see them profiteering off of the members without putting some time and effort into making the gym decent and making small changes such as having the air con on.

Nowhere near at good at the gyms in Leicestershire (last living there in 2019; I would like to think those gyms had mirrors reaching the floor area so it was possible to see one's technique doing floor exercises). There is no Yanga machine at the Nottingham gym - something which should be stated for such branches so one doesn't waste their money on an Yanga machine membership ...I asked for a refund from customer services online who forwarded my query (stating as well how dirty the floor mats at the end of building were - I had dust, debris and someone's hair on my bottoms after using what I thought were clean mats) but instead of a refund I was sent an automated message from the Facilities team which didn't address my complaints to justify my want for a refund from a cleanliness point of view...When calling the billing number I was offered only a partial refund. May this review remind me to NEVER try to join the Nottingham gym too

Hopefully I went on a bad day yesterday (04/10/22) around midday. Air con wasn't working properly so the place was pretty sweaty, smelly & unpleasant. As a result lots of used blue bits of paper rolls strewn around. Also what's wrong with the WiFi? As this building is below level there is little/no mobile signal so WiFi is essential. Looks like a move back to the Sherwood branch of things don't improve which is a much tidier, cleaner gym overall. 10/20/22 - Now seems sorted 😀

Been a member of the gym for probably circa 5yrs now and my annual habit has consisted of two months hard graft and switch off for another year. This year started similar till I joined JazzyB’s Saturday circuits class and found the confidence to ask if she could take me on as my PT. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever been fitter and stronger with my confidence through the roof. Two PT sessions a week along with my personal cardio have me enjoying everything about it. JazzyB has been a huge boost for me and I can’t thank her and the team enough. Thank you, first class PT with a fun team alongside her. A massive THANK YOU ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice and affordable gym in the uk. Notts city centre one have more equipments but toilets are not clean. It is very spacious and i recommend people to go there for workout on other side the Radford one is to cozy and they have inke one pair of machines you have to wait for the equipments. I have one suggestion for the gym group you have to move towards leisure centre I’m sure people gonna love it 😍 But I’m happy and there’s one problem i don’t know why the management started to take joining fee ?

This is my goodbye review. They finally reopened in April, all was going fine. Felt safe working out, everyone played their part. However, without any heads up or communication whatsoever, they just cut capacity. They think ppl queuing in the small space to get in is safer than working out in a huge area with aircon on..when its proven gyms have actually low infection rates. But its ok, we just queue up in a small.space cause thats safer. Equipment is being removed , so less people are let in, but yet less equipment is available, so how does that help?? I have been a member of this gym for years. But because of these changes, which again, was done without any communication and because it does not make sense in my eyes, i am off to look for a new gym. It was rammed with students as it is and now its impossible to work out when its convenient for me. Not how to introduce big changes , 3 weeks before restrictions lift. I may be back when they decide to communicate with members properly

Very good value for money, varied range of good equipment and open 24 hours. Unfortunately the worst gym etiquette I’ve ever seen. Free weights discarded everywhere Plates not re-racked Not difficult to monitor repeat offenders in a 24hr gym with full CCTV coverage. I think TheGymGroup would benefit from a compulsory induction video and test which must be watched prior to receiving your pin. With interactive reinduction videos/ tests for people with no respect for other gym users. Hopefully this can be resolved as it has the potential to be a 4.5 star gym. (Lockers could do with servicing/ repairing)

I have attended for 2 years, however, I feel in comparison to my home gym the quality isn’t as good at this gym. As some of the machinery is damaged or old it’s hard to complete a workout (if busy which it is most of the time). To name a few: - There’s a lack of weights (plates) - The only plates there are are dirty and damaged, with chalk (the other gym I attend doesn't allow it) - Hooks missing off cable machines - Battle Ropes are destroyed (handles are impossible to hold) - Machinery is dirty (the PT’s at my home gym consistently clean and dust) - Buttons missing off treadmills - Hip Abduction machinery doesn’t work - Leaks going down the walls and mirrors upstairs I just feel as though it lacks equipment. Whenever, I attend it’s impossible to get a full workout in for the focus that day.

I bought a day pass and my pin didn't work at the door. When I pressed the button to call the staff, no one answered even though it was during staff times (5pm). Likewise, when I called their phone line I was unable to get help as it was outside working hours. A bit odd considering that next to the help button it said to call if outside of working hours. Eventually I had to leave. Would definitely not want to go to such a faceless, mismanaged organisation regularly to work out. I want my £9 back.

The choice of equipment is massive and caters for all types of workouts. I've been to several gyms and felt uncom...

🫤 Two stars because getting hold of the gym is a myth. Contacted customer service on the phone was told they only deal with payment, message on social media 5 weeks later still waiting for a response. The gym it’s self is always clean and is well equipped but it’s got so busy which is great for the co...

😠 The staff have always been incredible, no flaw there... However we went today and left after 10-minutes as the new equipment and layout is absolutely diabolical. We were squatting on a 'rack' and someone wanted to use the cable (which is attached to the squat frame?). We had to offload the bar, take...
