Great facilities - if you like lifting weight, you will spend most of your session picking them up off the floor or where they have been left on machines and people have walked off, posing in the mirror as they go. The WiFi is a fantastic bonus, lots of people hogging the benches and the machines scrolling Facebook or Twitter. Excellent if you want to train and limited on time. Lockers do get broken into and have seen people drinking wine in the changing rooms. Signage - used to be very useful posters around members of how to behave a keep areas safe and clean. They've all been taken down. So could be good if staff and members showed courtesy, looked after the place and had a modicum of pride.

Some staff members are very rude especially who pretend to be managers and act like bosses of members. You must be very careful around cause staff are very careless about members and members properties. Cleanliness are absolutely out of standards. Steam room is very smelly.

Nice Gym although staff can come across as clueless when questions are asked re classes, activities and so on. The exercise equipment is clean and well kept unlike the toilets and changing rooms. The toilets has no hand dryer only tissue if lucky placed at the side. Soap to wash hands is a hit and miss, the condition does not match with the price I pay monthly. Jacuzzi removed despite contract price staying the same. Walls with cracks, faulty showers Best thing about Nuffield is the Sauna and steam room....shame so much potential

I have never understood joining fees. Paying customers should be welcomed with open arms. Pay to use facilities, yes, but a joining fee is purely an age old customer scam. I have to pay £30 for the gym to take monthly moneys from me, it's ancient insanity and very off putting. This is why, in the very long run, customers look elsewhere and gyms slowly rot into oblivion.

I had my phone stolen from here last thursday, and on same day someone had their wallet and car keys stolen. The lockers are the same since 2004 and even though they are insured they aint willing to pay out £200 to xover the cost of my phone. 05/02/20 Got threatened by staff as manager is gay and fancies customers 31/01/20 A member of women staff got threatened at reception tonight. And it was a person trying to gain a free day pass. This needs to stop before somekne gets hurt! And someone else has had all their clothes stolen from their locker which was locked up....

Attended Nuffield Health Romford this afternoon and was disappointed that I couldn’t try on a paid guest pass. I explained that I wanted to try before committing to a membership. The receptionist explained that the new management no longer accept paid guest passes and therefore I had to leave if I didn’t want to sign up and that the only way around this was if I knew a member. Very disappointed with this approach, especially as it’s a competitive market. Clearly not the receptionists fault, but a poor management decision in my opinion. *Updated, just signed up to Everyone Active Hornchurch. A potential lost customer. Great policy.

People in charge of this swimming pool area should get proper training on how to respect the customers that pay serious money to get there and not be rude ! The pool is always either too hot or too cold as no one is checking the temperature, you can get God knows what skin diseases from the showers looking and being dirty and of top of that managers are not being helpful cause they are perhaps taking this job for granted and sitting there waiting for the time to fly and leave. Horrific Customer Service and overall not worth the money!

For this gym I only give 3 stars because of hygiene and the hours that the gym operates , it is stated on the gym website that the gym isopen from 6am till 10pm in weekdays but they are closing the gym at 21:45 and calling people out at 21:30 ? Seriously? This is a joke .

The equipment is great. Very varied and enough of it to not be unavailable. But the changing facilities and toilets are some of the worst I've seen in a gym. Not deserving of the premium price tag, especially when you look at other Romford gyms, including the new Sapphire Centre. Real shame.

Rising fees for less facilities, cleanliness is questionable, no longer a cafe, desk staff aren't welcoming and are sometimes flat-out rude, the studios are now locked for members unless there is a class, when asked why it was because member were leaving weights around- which doesn't add up for the logo or spin studio. Honestly for the money they ask you to pay you can get the same amount at everyone active and puregym instead with more welcoming staff and better opening hours.

Let's be honest Nuffield Romford is not a bad Gym But the sauna should be bigger. The steam Room is okay. But there is a woman that uses the steam room early in the morning. All she does is sit the corner of the steam room. coughing. it can't Be Healthy, for anyone in the steam room. i spoke to the to woman and said can't you cough out side the steam room, she said with attitude have i got a problem i walked out of the steam room, next time i will report her to the nuffield Management.

This place has been change a lot within new management. Not for a good unfortunatelly. Many staff left, hygiene standard below basics. Swimming pool filtering system has not been change since opening. Very rude managment- Ignorants. so many things to improve to get reduced direct discrimination . Try to avoid - not worth that many especially for always faults spa facialities

Decent gym but given the membership fee you'd expect a lot more. I tend to go in the mornings so the gym is pretty empty. Equipment is clean most of the time and there is enough variety of machine. The cardio machines have Internet which means you can watch Netflix! Big plus for sure. They are high quality equipment with a lot of functionality to keep you motivated. There is a really nice swimming pool. The steam room is a big size which is great and the Sauna is pretty small (hardly use it). They did have two Jacuzzis but they turned them off during peak energy price hike crisis and now seem to be removing it entirely. You get two hours free parking at the brewery which is a plus. Decent size changing rooms and lockers require you to bring your own padlock. Showers are pretty clean and shower gel dispensers provided. All in all, decent gym but I get a discount on membership due to work and still pay around £55. Standard membership is almost £80. You can join David Lloyd for a few extra pounds. It's more convenience than anything to be honest. Update - 27/11/23 They recently upgraded parking to digital which is great when it works. However when it doesn't work its an absolute pain. The gym reception don't take ownership and say go to the gate and say you went gym. When you go to the gate the security don't let you through and say the gym staff have to call them. You end up with a bunch of cars honking at you. Best to make sure your parking is sorted before you get into the car. They replaced the hot tubs with 4 sun beds. What a poor replacement if you ask me. Further backs up my claim of the gym is very over priced for what you are getting. Pay a few extra pounds and you can go to Virgin or David Lloyd which has all of that mentioned here and above.

DISGUSTING. It does not look like it has been maintained in years. The bathroom, counters, sinks, toilets, bins are unclean and disgusting. The toilets smell like a urinal. Just gross. Unmaintained. I’m scared to go in the pool. No thanks

Sophi is the most rudest person I’ve ever met. Today I had an awful experience at Nuffield Romford. I am paying membership for myself, my husband and our 3 kids . We very rarely using the membership. Me and my husband asked a while ago, one of the managers, if we are allowed to bring my mom to help with dressing up the kids after I take them out of the water. He was very kind and answered that it was fine as long as she wouldn't use the facilities. But she’s allowed to get in to help with the kids once we finish. Meanwhile, my mom needs to wait outside. So Today, 22.10.23 , I wanted to take my kids to swim . My mum is here in uk , she visits us once per year . I took her with me to help dress up the kids after I take them out of the water . When I swap the cards at the reception, I informed the receptionist that I talked to the manager and he allowed my mum to come in only to help not to use the facilities. She said is absolutely fine . Before we entered the changing room I saw the manager Sophi , I went to her to make sure I don’t do any mistake , and I informed her also that my mum comes in I talked to one of their colleague and he said is ok . But Sophi disagreed and very rude took me to the reception and gave me two options: to pay 15£ for my mum because she passed the gates or she must get out . Unfortunately, I didn’t have the card with me to pay and also I told her is not fair , as i always see grandparents non members bringing by themselves the kids ( members- kids ) to swim and they staying out of the swimming pool watching them . But now ,the only one time , when I wanted to get my mum’s help - I repeat- my mum wouldn’t use any of the facilities, she would only help me dress up the kids when I take them out of the water. And we wouldn’t stay longer then 45 min in total with changing. Even though we didn’t go anymore to swim , and we left , Sophi blocked my account and she wrote that I am not allowed to enter Nuffield until I don’t pay the fee 15£. I will take this case forward, she been very rude , we finally got a time to take the kids to swim and she made my kids cry as I couldn’t take them anymore to swim . Sophi destroyed our day . Her behaviour is disgusting . The receptionist , the creche staff and everyone else always been kind. But Sophi’s behaviour is disgusting, I hope she won’t gonna make another kids cry and put the parents in this awful posture. I will make a formal complain about her today .

Took an option for a trial day before joining, to see how the place was. But i came back to the changing room after my workout to find the padlock on my locker had been cut off and everything stolen. I reported it to the front desk but the staff didn't care and basically told me it was happening a lot and mine was the third that day!! All my clothes, car keys, house keys, work keys, wallet, phone, debit card, driving licence and money taken. Cost me so much money and agro have had to have my front door keys and barrel changed because my address is on my licence so whoever has my stuff has my address and all my keys. The gym don't seem to care. shocking experience on my first and last visit to this gym. Do not join

Absolutely shocking gym and even more shocking treatment by their manager, Craig Hughes. Looking at the recent 1* reviews I can see others have had poor experiences as well. Intially joined this gym as my other gym was undergoing refurb. It was advertised that this gym has lots of facilities and spas being one of them. Within 2 weeks of me joining, the message came that due to high costs, spas were being closed down. Found that surprising as nearly 10 of us had recently joined this gym (as our main gym was undergoing refurb) and even the gym staff said that a fair few members had come from there. In my opinion, gym has dim lighting, mirrors are cracked in multiple places, the changing rooms are terrible with black growth in various places, toilets always smell really bad and there are often queues for gym equipment. The staff dont look to pleased to be there, there are children running around weights and people come in in slippers which just ruins the vibes. I looked to cancel (albeit after 1.5 months), and I was originally told by George Lineham that I could, however Craig Hughes came in and said George was wrong. Tried to argue more money out of me, and eventually dropped it after lots of emails. Did not want to work out in an environment such as that, specially with an approach like Craig's. I was surprised how much he argued to retain my membership so he could continue taking more money from me. Spoke to him and told him of the issues, and he appeared to defend them all, including how people should wear slippers to gym and how its ok for kids to run around heavy weights being dropped. Surprising and glad I got out out of there. Overall it has all the potential to be a good gym (specially with a Swedish One machine), but due to approach's like Craig Hughes' it will not be great.

Let me start by saying that my home gym is Chigwell. I've been a member for over 10 yrs. I've seen the transformation from when the gym used to be VA to NH at Chigwell and seeing the same in Romford. The classes are ok. Wish they had Nuffield Cycle Escape with virtual instructor as I can't get to spin class. The spin room is tiny compared to Chigwell and desperately needs to be upgraded. Equally something needs to be done about the the dull dark changing rooms. The quality/quantity of equipment available for pilates classes are poor. Please sort out some decent mats and weights for the classes. I agree about the staff attitudes, perhaps some customer service training is in order. I just had reason to ring and cancel a class by phone because I couldn't cancel via the app. She was rude even though I explained I was unwell hence unable to attend. A few weeks ago, there was broken glass in the shower and asked for someone to attend, I left 30 minutes later and no one had been so I put signage up in the hope that one one would get hurt. If they want to attract new members, the changing rooms need to be sorted out and the staff need to be more personable.

Terrible gym. Always dirty, I’ve found myself wiping the water taps and requesting wipes. They took away the access to the hot tub and other facilities after complaints about it being dirty. The air conditioning unit in the rooms where classes are carried out are toxic. You literally leave the from with allergy/flu symptoms They increased the price and when I realised the difference that was deducted from account, i decided to go to another gym. They claimed that I was not told about the price increase because I’d opted out of marketing emails yet they messaged me to ask me to pay an extra months payment, so clearly opting out only works when it suits them. The staff in the actual gym are nice. Sophie Sullivan and her threats, not so much. She actually threatened to take the money out of my account lol

Can’t complain, for the price you get a good value - 2 floors of gym plus a swimming pool with jacuzzi and steam room/sauna. Free parking for 2 hours. As previously mentioned, locker rooms could be refurbished

I frequently go to the city, Chigwell and Chelmsford gym but was in the area so visited. Worst Nuffield I have been to, and they charge guests for a guest pass, even though you get a free one with your membership which is free in more expensive Nuffield gyms. Lockers are old padlock style rather than codes like everywhere else, which they also charge you for and floors are very dirty in changing rooms and the pool floor is dirty. Old and outdated. Only good thing is free parking.

I've been a long time member and quality of the center really deterated in many ways The spa pool was constantly one was closed, those monitoring the pool did not enforce rules regularly, no pride in being an employee of Nuffield. Virgin Active had a higher standard across the board The cafe was more shut than open !!! Safe chatting to each other not tending to members. Now since three weeks new manager and I get a good impression from her expecting high standards from the staff. On Saturday a woman had a mobile phone in the pool area and yet there are signs every where displaying no mobile phones. Keep up the good work new manager!!

This was a great gym. Very clean and well maintained. But only what you'd expect when you consider you pay a premium. Over the past 2 years though the place has become dirty and the equipment left out of order for weeks. There are now better gyms within a minutes wak of this one. Both are a 1/3 of the price and they are open 24 hours.

Good gym, does get packed in the free weigh section in the evenings early mornings are usually the best time and weekends. Gym equipment and pool area are pretty good. There is a young man who is part of the cleaning team, who I see often and I just wanted to say that this particular person takes a lot of pride and is very hardworking.

I’d recently relocated to Romford and had a free PT taster session with the lady with the lip piercing. I found that instead of training me, she kept talking about her personal problems and was too flirtatious for me. Would not recommend her as a PT, but the gym did seem nice and clean.

What an awful place. Since Nuffield have taken this gym over there has been an increase by nearly 30 quid a month in the last 7 years from 35 to 62 a month just for this one gym. The management have decreased opening hours and the procurement is shocking. Nuffield allow members and staff to walk around the gym floor using phones, almost knocking into people. My advice would to not use nuffield. You can't complain to senior managers as everything gets referred back down to romford. It appears that the owners of nuffield are running the romford gym to the ground with zero investment and constantly increasing member prices, only to get less. The staff at the Romford gym are great and friendly but the issues at the gym and other nuffields go above the site management. Head office need to sort the issues out.

I have been coming to this gym for circa 13 years. And have met some great people over this time. But as mentioned in many of the later comments the gym has fallen below standard massively. Almost third world. For a HEALTH CENTRE Cleanliness has become a joke, members continously complaining and all being ignored. Ceiling falling into childs pool. Apparently pool not filtered correctly (this may only be a rumour but judging by the rest of the gym probably true) The gents toilet on the ground floor has been a disgrace for ages. No way of drying your hands at all. No toilet brush. The bolt to lock the door is for an outside gate. I mentioned and showed a video to lady on reception. The area by the door handle was (filth) this had not been cleaned for possibly years, Apparently she asked someone to clean the area, I checked today the area by the handle slightly cleaner but rest of the door and frame filthy, without mentioning the rest of the toilet. Closed the hot tubs and just boarded them up with building site barracades this looks awful. For a high quality gym thes should not be closed. Even Golds Gym in dagenham have theirs open and the are less than half the cost per month. Went to go to my favourite spinning class this morning to be told. No more classes as not enough numbers so its being stopped. How do they know who is in there, I for one prefer not to use the ap, if its full never mind, many others dont have the ap. This has also happened before, the people cancelling these classes are never there to check. they just sit and look at a PC. And to add insult to injury the equipment in the studio hardly ever works, I really feel for the instructors. Virtual spin not working. On a Wednesday 6.30 am you have two of the best instructors on at the same time. why not move one to thursday so we can enjoy both. The entrance machines always playing up, suggestion open up 5 minutes earlier to help the chaos? Really hope this is constructive as I for one really want to stay Regards A

Top class gym in Romford Town Centre. Extensive range of equipment and varied areas to work out. Good pool with lanes in place; at off peak times there is always a good opportunity for a proper swim session. Only negative for me is the changing rooms could use some updating and refurbishment.

Have been a member for approx a month. Really good gym, easy process to join too. I only use the gym floor, but impressed with the number of different areas and equipment. Even when busy, it's big enough to make sure your routine isn't interrupted. It could do with a little more lighting and lick of paint to freshen it up. But otherwise really good.

I signed up my wife with Adam and he was always very helpful and patient from the outset, answering my all my questions. It looks like a great health club. I will be signing shortly. I have just done a trial at David Lloyds and the customer service there was dreadful. But so far Nuffield customer service is excellent - Adam being the sole person I have been talking too. Great customer service so far, great health club facilities - I feel really good in the environment so far, and the price is competitive too.

Absolute snooty behaviour, do I not fit the image you are going for? Felt completely judged and look down upon by the woman at the front of reception.

I recently signed up with the Nuffield sales team who were very friendly and helpful they referred me for an induction with a pt called Chantelle as hadn’t a clue where to start, she was absolutely amazing, very professional and I highly recommend her, she taught me everything I needed to know and even went over her time to give me advice on my diet as she said it wouldn’t work without my eating being up to scratch. The gym is very clean and tidy and now I have a plan I’m looking forward to getting myself back in shape, I definitely recommend this gym the staff are amazing and make you feel very welcome :)

Both myself and my wife attended for a Health Check. Both of us where pleased how clean, professional and helpful the consulting rooms and staff where. The staff where knowledgeable, and able to give answers to health and condition related questions as well as check bloods and give general advise. Although this is the 2nd closest health check location for us, we felt very at home and will probably select this location next year based on our joint experiences.

So joined 4 months ago was told that the whole gym was due a refurb was also told about 2 hr parking and a discount at Nando’s due to gym membership. This was the sales pitch to entice us to join. Nando’s do not accept cards given by Nuffield. So far I have not seen any refurb most of the benches have rips in them the weights floor is uneven so when you want to use a bench you need to put weights under it so it does not move. In month two had to ask for someone to look at bulbs as most on weights floor were blown. There seems to be atleast one machine out of order weekly Locker room is out dated jacuzzis seem to take it in turns to be closed. Prices for drinks well over priced. However the reception staff are fantastic and seem to enjoy there role. The floor staff are really helpful and always happy. My understanding is most of the staff have left and new people have started. If they can refurb the gym I’m sure they will attract more customers. Maybe it’s just a transition period. Update gym refurb has been done and looks great. More space more equipment. However already after a week the watt bikes are not connecting to the programmes and extension power cables run across floor to keep screens powered. Two machines are broken awaiting repair and the stretch zone has been cordoned off without notice. The steam room still smells like a toilet and is unclean. When asked at reception if they have anything to prove they are being cleaned like a sign off sheet was told no but they should be being cleaned regularly. One jacuzzi is constantly not working until the maintenance man come back from his days off as he must be the only one that can get it working and also there is still a thick line of scum around the tubs where they are not being cleaned and people are not having a shower before they use them. One jacuzzi has a large build up of like scale in the bottom where it has not been cleaned. The showers have had one out of order for over one month now.

Great all round gym. Yes stuff isn't in the best condition at times despite it being quite new but the staff do help with issues.

The gym side is good. The changing room/ toilets and shower facility have broken/ faulty parts everywhere. Not fully functioning. I don't mind aged, but non-functional means negligence. FAO owners and managers - your members pay you to use the whole facility. Will revise this review in 6 months. Hopefully i could revise it with good news.

Good facilities. I visited around 4:30 and it was quite quiet. Swimming pool was a pleasant temperature. Clean environment and friendly staff.

I had a lovely facial today with Jenny. Very professional beautician explaining what treatments would be good following my concerns regarding my skin. Brilliant results and would highly recommend 5*

Lovely gym. Facilities have been updated hugely, therefore, even better than it already was. Brilliant weight section which my partner uses daily not to mention the pool facilities are incredible. Clean shower room and bathroom. They have also removed plastic bags from the changing rooms to which you can bag your swimming costume in afterwards and they encourge you to bring your own bag which shows they are doing their part for the environment. Staff are always willing to help and provide you with any advice you might need when first joining.

Wanted to put a 5 star review up regarding Serena one of the PT at Nuffield Romford. She was amazing and although I could not take her support on as my PT at this time if you are financially able to I would recommend her . She has a wonderful manner, she listens to you and gave me a detailed structure to follow to help improve my fitness - I am very unfit currently. So if you get the chance ask for Serena as she is an amazing asset to the gym . And she always has a smile a friendly word and offers support and advice to those in the gym x
