Canceled my membership in person as soon as gym was opened again in September, I explained that I'd cancel it earlier but gym was closed and nobody was picking up the phone. Guy on the reception told me that they understand the situation and I'll not be charged for the next month. In several weeks noticed transaction from gym on my credit card. Called them and was told that this is a mistake and it'll be fixed. I also left my phone number and asked them to call back when they fix this. Nobody called back, got charged anyways. Poor customer service.

Update: I appreciate the response here. And glad to see the care to look into the matter. The gym is a great place with good equipment and facilities so nothing much to complain about. The towel service is nice to have as well. Really disappointed in my experience leaving this gym today. I lost track of time and accidentally stayed in the gym at 7. It wasn’t even a minute or 2 over and one of the employees came up to me with an attitude and very rude to kick me out instead of nicely making me aware it was after 7. They then proceeded to do the same thing to my wife who was doing cardio with the same rudeness. I’ve brought 3 other members to this gym and get that kind of treatment when I make a mistake? It would be nice to feel valued as a customer instead of seen as a nuisance. Will edit my review once this is addressed.

The gym is fine but during COVID I was rolled over into a month-to-month membership without any notification that my contract was up or that the gym was even open. No email at all. Of course I wasn’t able to cancel my membership over the phone so I went in and was told that because I didn’t give them enough warning I’d be charged for another month. Like I said, the gym was great but the customer service and email marketing is non existent. Hope they like the couple extra months they got out of me, it will be the last.

There is good and bad that comes with going to the gym here. Many of the people you will meet are congenial and encouraging. However, you will find that many things break down and take a long time before being repaired or replenished. This could be anything from a broken machine to a water fountain that barely jets water past the spigot or even empty paper toilet in the bathroom stalls and lockers that refuse to close or open to any code. Beyond the upkeep, there seems to be a policy of little to no AC which many of the gym goers complain about. Unfortunately, this falls on deaf ears, so if you work out on a hot day make sure to find an alternative way to cool down. All in all, this gym is quite small but has a friendly community. Outside of peak hours you’ll be able to find machines to use but don’t expect anything broken to be fixed anytime soon. Edit: I’ve modified my score since the gym obstinately refuses to acknowledge any error. I should note that the water fountain has broken down just 3 weeks after its scheduled “repair” and in the meantime I’ve seen 2 lockers be ripped off the hinges by other gymgoers. I’m convinced none of our money is going towards gym upkeep.

What a bunch of crooks! I cancelled my membership last March. In July, when the gym reopened, the charged me the monthly fee, claiming they had no record of my cancellation. So I called and they assured me the membership was cancelled. Now, in October, they have charged my account again. What is going on? I tried to call the gym and their voicemail is full! Definitely one of the most dishonest, unprofessional places in town. When I finally heard back from the manager, Greg, I got many assurances that it was an honest mistake and that he would refund the money. That never happened despite his many promises. I finally had to go to my credit card company to have them get my money back from me. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Signed up for the personal trainer fitness plan and was told that I could cancel any time. My personal trainer was laid off so I couldn't continue working with him anymore. So I decided to cancel. Turns out that I was still receiving charges and couldn't cancel. Overall, horrible experience.

In November of 2021, I had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from inside my spinal cord, up in my cervical spine, and fuse C3-C7. From the surgery, I lost all of my strength, my balance, too much weight, and the feeling in my entire body. In November of 2022, I was unable to make my own bed. I lacked the strength even to “push” the sheets and blankets between the mattresses! So, I talked to Rob Suelflohn, the owner of Powerhouse Gym and a really nice guy, and he recommended Jeremy Bates for personal training. Jeremy is fantastic! He recognized that I needed to strengthen my body to perform the most basic movements before I could do anything else. He suggested exercises that, not only improved my strength, but eliminated any strain on my newly-built neck. As of April, 2023, not only am I able to make my own bed, I can flip the mattress AND I can deadlift 100lbs! Jeremy has helped me gain strength, muscle mass, and balance. Every week I am getting stronger and feeling more capable. My energy is better and I am feeling better about myself. Thank you, Jeremy, Rob, and everyone at Powerhouse! You are all encouraging, inspiring, and, most of all, helpful. Thank you!

A scammer den. Charged the monthly fee WELL AFTER the shelter-in-place order took effect and they closed their doors. $70 is a bit expensive for nothing. They won’t even admit they made a mistake and offered no refund, no complimentary month, NOTHING. Instead, they asked if we wanted to cancel our membership. Shows how they care about customers. Stay away from this place.

I really enjoy working out at this gym! All of the staff are helpful and genuinely nice. The facilities are super nice and very clean. They are one of the only gyms I have found in the area that have free weights, along with squat racks and the ability to deadlift, that is not outrageously priced.

Overall it could be an okay gym. The biggest problem is that they almost never turn the AC on. Oh hot days, it's unbearable. Even when it's not that warm outside, it's still hot and humid inside, because either there's no ventilation, or maybe it doesn't work properly. One day when it was 71 degrees outside, I brought a thermometer with me, and it showed it's 76 degrees inside. That's just not acceptable for an expensive gym. ——— New update: since I can’t “reply to a reply”, I’ll add the response here: Thanks Rob for the response. However, in the last few weeks, the doors are always open and AC/ventilation is off (or doesn’t seem to be doing anything), at least in late afternoons when I go. I’ve asked the front desk in the past and they did turn it on, but I only work out for 45 minutes, and by the time the AC catches up to cool that big space, I’m long gone. The American college of sports medicine recommends a max temperature of 72F for working out indoors, but in your gym it’s definitely higher.

The staff is awesome and the place is very clean! The only thing missing are cleaning/wiping stations throughout the facility. The wipes are usually located near the front desk, so you have to walk to get a wipe, then go clean equipment. Other than that, bathrooms/locker rooms are super clean; I use the showers frequently! The equipment is new and there's plenty of attachments, exercise bands, massage rollers, plates, etc.

Passing through Redwood City this weekend and stopped by to get in a workout. I’ve dropped in at other gyms like 24 hour fitness in the area and this gym is my favorite. It’s not huge, but they have a lot of great equipment, several power racks, and plenty of barbells and free weights to get in a solid workout. When I was there it wasn’t packed and the front desk staff was helpful and nice. This is my go to when in town from now on.

An excellent gym with incredibly friendly staff. Rachel, Harry, Gaby, and the rest of the staff are awesome and make everyone feel welcome at the gym. In the few years I’ve been going on and off, I’ve only ever had one negative experience where a belligerent customer named Ken came in on a guest pass. He racially targeted one of the employees, was slinging slurs, and tried to start a fight. The staff working at the time handled it exceedingly well. I love Powerhouse gym, the community is excellent and it really feels like home.

Great gym in a convenient location in downtown RWC! Very clean facility and friendly and welcoming staff, including owner Rob. As a woman working out by herself, it is very important to workout in a safe and harrasment-free environment. Gym users are very respectful and mind their own workout. I highly recommend this gym.

I’ve been working out at the Power House Gym elite for a while this is one of the cleanest gyms I’ve worked out in the equipment in state of the art. The employees are kind and helpful, and the training staff is remarkably educated in the art of weightlifting and conditioning. The martial arts instruction at this facility is very professional, and they understand your abilities, I would recommend this facility to anyone who wants to get in shape and feel good about themselves

SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES. Reopened in the middle of the pandemic, with no notice to members, and started charging again. Didn't answer emails that were sent to cancel the account. Didn't have anyone available by phone to cancel the account. And now won't provide a refund. Ridiculous. Do not do business with them.

It would be a nice gym if the personal trainers weren't doing supersets during peak hours. I was relocated to a different state for my job. When I signed up, I was told the cancellation fee would be $180. Tried to cancel and was told the cancellation fee is $300. I asked to see my contract and the man on the phone said he doesn't have it. So why would I pay if there's no contract? I have never heard of a gym with such an inhuman amount to cancel. Every gym I have gone to before waves the cancellation fee when relocated for work.

I congratulate the Powerhouse family for the environment they offer their customers, and especially for the cleanliness of the place. Being a pet friendly place, it always stays clean and organized, and the dogs are certainly a big difference in my training sessions always being happier. I support the initiative 100%!

Great gym, very compact. I've noticed the bars are not as thick here, they seem to only have 25mm diameter Women's barbells (you can feel it on the bench presses) instead of the standard 28mm. Hurts my wrists. They should reopen anyways / 10

Great gym in Redwood city! Started working out there and it’s just great! New and very nice top quality equipment and a very clean training facility. Staff very knowledgeable and so helpful. Many athletes as well as beginners all working out together, a great culture for all. Owner and staff are great, so helpful and willing to meet anyone at their fitness goals. If you’re looking to get in shape and feel better physically give Redwood city Powerhouse a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Overall experience is positive. Gym has a nice setup & Zen music in the bathrooms/locker room. Felipe was my coach he did an awesome job. (show results). Monthly dues a little bit on the high side (comes with a clean towel 😊). Also wish free parking was 2 hours instead of 90 minutes. (Might want check if the gym can validate parking like the movie theatres). Definitely would recommend this gym to others!

I’m so glad I found Powerhouse gym when I moved to the area. I’ve been a member and doing personal training sessions with Jeremy and his service dog Zoey for 1 year. I had knee surgery prior to coming and had peaked at PT, but wanted to really regain all the mobility and strength I had prior. We have been working on mobility and functional training and I have had great progress and results. I am actually even stronger than I was pre-injury and surgery and still keep going back for more sessions. I love the unique experience of having Zoey there as well. She is such a well behaved dog and radiates positivity. Zoey and the other pups at the gym definitely put this gym above all the others I’ve tried locally. The gym and locker rooms are always clean and well maintained. There’s free towel service and everyone is always welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend this gym and especially Jeremy and Zoey for personal training.

I have belonged to Powerhouse Gym Elite in RWC since 2019, and have had a fantastic experience. I use the personal training services, know a lot of the regulars, and feel at home when I am there. It's a great small gym with all the equipment you need and a good vibe. Easy and cheap to park in the underground garage and central to everything.

I've belonged to many gyms over the years and Powerhouse is the best and the only one that I have stuck with for over 15 years, including the old gym which used to be across the street. The place is very friendly and the owner is very accessible. I don't understand why some people post complaints publicly instead of simply talking directly with Rob. He always wants to hear from customers and will go out of his way to make things right. Three of the trainers bring their dogs which are about the most well behaved and social animals I've ever seen. It really adds a note of joy to have them nearby. Occasionally they do shed and the trainers clean up after them once the are finished with the session they are running with their human clients. This means that there may be some dog hair on the floor while they are working with their clients, but they clean it up right after the session. The gym itself is very clean and the only clutter is from those few customers often forget to put away the equipment they got out.

I give my sincere praise to Powerhouse for the sense of community, organization, and especially in an environment like this, cleanliness. All the employees have always been extremely helpful and polite when I needed help, and I realize every day that the atmosphere in this place is truly of unity. I would also like to praise the initiative of being a “pet friendly” place. I think it's common sense that many people these days have a lot of mental illness, and that animals are extremely helpful. And the most important point, even though it is an environment where dogs circulate, it is always clean. I have often seen (I'm a regular at the gym) the trainers who take their dogs (who make us happy, and are extremely polite and well trained) vacuuming the whole place. I have never seen any accidents with dogs and I realize that the vast majority of people love them. Always well-behaved, and never interfere with the training of those around them. With that said, it really upsets me to read the comment made a few days ago criticizing something that simply isn't true. I really hope that the owners do not take seriously the comment of a person who seems to have the mentality of an 8 year old child, who thinks that his wishes have to be done, invents facts, and continues to allow the circulation of animals. In fact, this was one of the factors for me choosing Powerhouse, the inclusion of everyone there. I believe that everyone who frequents this gym is aware that the space is pet friendly, and anyone who doesn't like this should do as they would in any other place. Anyone who doesn't like animals, doesn't go to a pet friendly restaurant, for exemplo, or doesn't go to a dog park…
