Have to add my voice to the others who found this gym dirty and over priced. I was also unimpressed with management - they need to be sent to customer service training urgently - management isn't about ego, it's about making the customer feel welcome and loyal - you don't feel that here. You feel disgusted and unwelcome, like a dirty motel run by mobsters imho.

This health club does have a few good features to it , for instance the classes are good and the physio department were helpful to me. But overall it is not good value for money. The gym equipment is average, and either the steam room or sauna is always out of action. The showers are poorly maintained eg; broken locks, leaking showers, no soap. They also raised the prices twice in the year I was a member and when I cancelled the membership even though I was out of contract they made me pay another month worth of fees. I would never join this gym again.

This could be such a really good health and fitness centre but it is spoilt by the reluctance of the management to fix things when they break. I have been a member for a couple of years and have been constantly frustrated by things not working. At the moment one of the Jacuzzis is out of action and has been for weeks. The sauna is stuck on full heat and the steam room is intermittently hot. There is no communication from management at all just "It's in hand" or "we will inform maintenance". It's a shame as the staff are friendly and with a bit of money spent on maintaining the facility it could be a so much better.

I am researching which gym to start using and I can not believe that after all there one or two star reviews over a long time you have not sorted yourselves out yet. You are losing business this way. Up to you but I'll pass.

Visit fairly regularly for badminton and occasional squash. The staff are sometimes quite rude, recently hassling us over our student status. I understand they need to know, but I would appreciate not being spoken down to like a misbehaving child. Also we had leaks from the roof onto our court, to which we told to just put a bucket down and only use half of the court, no refunds, no moving out court, just simply deal with it. We sometimes play at the John moores sports centre, there the staff are always super helpful and accommodating, helping to set up equipment and ask if we need any extra equipment, the courts are clean and rooms air conditioned. It's a shame the UoL sports centre couldn't be more like them.

Not allowed bags in the gym Only 2 benches that are taken 100% of the time Equipment feels tacky Too expensive for uni students, should be discounted at least somewhat. Wouldn't reccomend

I enjoy swimming in the pool, and recently have received friendly help to use equipment in the gym recommended after having a back operation. One question. Is the management aware of the thousands of litres of water - heated water- that is pouring away each week through showers that one cannot turn off completely. There is a constant trickle or flow of water from at least 7 of the showers. Surely this is a waste of money and energy?

Nice pool and spa let down by tired showers and almost constant absence of spin dryer. Reporting problem brings only "it's awaiting maintenance" response. Decent cafe on site and pleasant staff in all areas.

This is the worse gym I've ever been to. It is filthy and management doesn't care about its customers - the management attitude is lazy and arrogant.

Great gym for classes, cardio, and weights. My favourite part is the infrared sauna in the locker rooms. Can get crowded during peak times (5-7 pm) but if you time it right it's easy to get all the equipment you need.

Spacious, modern gym. Can get very busy at lunch time and after work, but you should be able to find a nice spot to work out. The classes they offer are quite good.

Good luck trying to reach these guys by phone for bookings or any enquiries. Every single time I call over the last two months no one ever answers the phone, and then when I go to the gym they’re not even busy at the front desk so can’t even use that as an excuse 😒

It is a good option if you live close. There is nothing special provided in it. The working hours are limited specially in the off term period and holidays. The gym is a bit crowded but you always manage to find empty machines to train. The changing rooms could be improved. I choose it because of the convenience of it's location. Never tried the swimming pool.

Regardless of the other not up to university standard sports facilities, but the squash courts are by far the worst I have ever seen… not much care and attention is given to promote sports in this university…

Visited to play badminton, after booking a court online. Staff at reception were incredibly rude and patronising and tried to charge us double. Online prices are 3.50 for the entire court for non-members but they tried to charge us entrance fees each despite the website saying nothing about this. Overall the customer service is the worst I have ever come across!! Would not recommend.

Joined this gym to use the bouldering wall. Requested that my name be added to the training list (as required by the gym) in November 2018. Have become so tired of calling back and checking to see if there is any sign that a training day will be put on that I've decided to cancel my membership. Pretty poor communication and access to facilities.

Stressful and dirty... You can never get into classes as some members set their alarms at 7am to book a class 8 days ahead - this is common with Pilates, Yoga, Body Balancd, Boxfit. You get an unpleasant email from reception when you miss a class... I might add that they sometimes only give you 30mins notice of a space becoming available and no notifications through their app. For example today I checked if I had a place on the 10am yoga at 9am... no I was still on the waiting list. At some point after they booked me on without notifying me, so I missed the class and got a warning e-mail! The pool is dirty, with black muck, plasters, tissue paper floating in the water and in particular the dirty particles never seem to get cleaned up! They let very slow swimmers in the fast lane without comment. Equipment is forever breaking down steam room, jacuzzi etc Look elsewhere if you want a good gym - I’m stuck in a 12 month contract I deeply regret.

visited this gym whilst on holiday. Nuffield member at another gym. Found the changing area very dated, ceiling absolutely filthy, with air con vents covered in dirt. Many of the showers would not turn off, or where not temperature adjustable. Steam room and sauna where fine. Very odd pool layout across the diagonal of the room. Do you really need three jacuzzi?

Most of the members of staff are lovely and friendly (especially the staff on the desk) been here for about a year now and the gym always feels like a nice place to be! I was disappointed in the management system though as today I was approached by the manager in a rude way. What he was saying was a fair point but there are nicer ways of approaching people and I felt that considering I have been paying around £50 a month for a membership that the manager wouldn’t approach paying customers in such a rude way. Before approaching me I then saw this same manager be really rude to another member! In general this place is so nice so luckily I wasn’t put off by this member of staff as I’ve been here a long time however I think this needs to change as if I was a new member I probably would have been inclined to change gyms.

Went here for a year and paid £51 per month for the pleasure. As other reviews have said, there is a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness. The equipment is usually dusty and the changing/shower rooms are quite grubby. On the plus side, for swimming in Norwich the pool is very quiet - so if you can afford to pay a premium and like lots of room it could be great for that. The management here is very good and dealt with an issue of guys cat-calling very quickly, which was nice this was taken seriously. If you want a "health club" then Nuffield may well be for you. If you just want a gym, you can get better value elsewhere in my opinion.

In terms of the cafe, I was hugely disappointed. Disgusting cup of coffee. In one particular case having purchased a slice of cake, when probing into it I was shocked to to find it was rock solid and stale. On returning it I was told the cakes arrive frozen and are defrosted before being served - appaling. Furthermore staff were extremely noisy and abnoxious. Overall very poor.

Big space but lots of machines not working or permanently in use, only one double multi cable machine.I joined 3 weeks ago, in the womens changing room are 3 toilets one is permanently locked, at busy times a queue is not acceptible in a private gym. There are big plywood panels on the walls which make it look like its half made.

If you can avoid peak times then this is the perfect gym for you. £19.99 is cheap, wide selection of equipment, very popular classes. The problem is that it's a victim of its own success, lunch and after work periods are very busy. Don't expect to be able to use all of equipment you want. That said you can usually get on a treadmill or a free weights bench. Summary, good equipment, good price, very busy at peak times. 4/5

Basic but nice gym in a great central location. Always nice and clean and has great staff. Unfortunately it’s massively oversubscribed meaning that it’s really difficult to have any kind of meaningful workout at busy (all weekday afternoons and evenings).

The gym is alright. Nothing special. Some machines are missing, but you can find alternatives. With regard to the swimming pool. They advertise it as “open 7 days a week” which is very deceiving. It’s not open the same time as the gym. You’d think because it says open from 7-10 on weekdays that the pool is the same but it’s not. It closes at 8 on weekdays which isn’t very bad, but it closes on Saturday while only open on Sunday for a few hours in the morning. Very inconvenient as signed up for the University’s gym specifically for the swimming pool given that other gyms in the area are cheaper. Additionally there isn’t other facilities usually expected like a Sauna or a hot tub.

Great staff , great price , clean facilities given the amount of people accommodating. Swimming pool is a bliss 😊 apart of some days that is closing down for lessons and then gets hectic. It does not help that a large area of the swimming pool is closed for one or two kids lessons and the rest of the lanes are 5 people and more trying to squeeze for their work out !

If price isn't your biggest concern this is the place to be for all your fitness needs. The fitness centre spans across two floors and has recently been revamped with state of the art fitness equipment. The floor above hosts an olympic swimming pool and indoor rock climbing. Among other things, tennis, football, cricket, martial arts, fencing and archery are all available at the centre. The X burn classes are also something to opt for if you are not into the whole weight training, and then there are plenty of other amenities such as yoga and meditation to opt for if you are into that.

Halls are good, but dusty. Gym is good, but has leaks from the ceiling often. Staff is nice. I haven’t been to the pool in over a year, and for good reasons: the pool was at that point practically furry, floors in the changing room dirty and the showers mouldy. Walls, door and ceiling green and furry as well as paint chipping. Not going in there again.

Too expensive to be called a "University" Sport Centre. The price is not student friendly, unless you are a relatively wealthy oversea or local student. But if you're going to use the swimming pool, basketball court, badminton and the gym... then it's worth it for the price that they are setting. A relatively decent gym in liverpool at student price is... 1) £14 To £19.90 a month 2) £3 To £4.5 for a day pass Whereas this place at student price is... 1) £26+ (minimum) a month 2) £6.50 (basketball court etc. Including gym) or £3 (swimming pool etc. Except the gym) for a day pass A piece of advice, if you're finding a gym in Liverpool, find some other gyms around your area before hastily purchasing an annual or 6 months pass for this place. They are much better places if you are just finding for a gym.

Since moving to Norwich I have been coming to Nuffield very regularly. I find all the staff very friendly & helpful, there is always equipment available in the gym I have never had to wait. The classes are fun & instructors willing to assist & keep a close eye on people not using the equipment properly. I always enjoy my time there.

  • 4/5 Martyn G. 5 years ago on Google
The negatives with the gym as I see it.The showers need a total refit, water stations updating, car park code should be changed weekly to avoid abuse, pricing, realitively few beginners classses, (some feel uneasy joining in established groups), and classes on the upstairs landing...Now the positives, quality cardio room, a good selection of weight machines (there are a couple I'd like to see but space is limited) friendly, professional reception staff (number seems to be growing weekly), accessable management, and fitness trainers who if asked will show you proper technique, and no question is left unanswered, so yes like all public based operations that have high volume of daily members it's going to be pushed to it's limits, but all in all it is a great gym, and can only get better with members feedback. There is also a great bistro, again run by nice people, but not promoted enough...More competitions, sporting events televised, new members nights, singles nights!!

Great facilities - COVID secure and feeling safe visiting and especially swimming. One way systems in place, booking systems for swimming etc and really friendly staff. Lockers are dated and could do with replacing though that's a very small part of the experience. Highly recommend Nuffield Norwich

  • 5/5 Louis B. 4 years ago on Google
Nice clean gym and helpful staff, great to see the cleaners keeping the changing room smart and tidy unlike my old Nuffield, Good range of classes although for a while they had shortened some of them, seem to be back to the full class now, plenty of parking and great instructors.

3/4 stars, been going here for a while and it used to be 5 stars however recently it seems staff/members have stopped caring, weights are all over the place and you always find yourself waiting for someone sitting on the machine that you want to be on that is texting for 5 minutes between sets, staff on the desk and cleaners are always friendly, depends what day you catch the management on.

  • 4/5 Josh M. 4 years ago on Google
Good pool and nice spa facilities, the gym is well equipped and the whole place has a nice open atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful but the place is let down somewhat by minor maintenance issues, showers not being in the best repair, doors missing locks, etc. Overall the price is worth it if you go several times a week and you could do a lot worse when looking for a swimming gym.

Got a free day trial pass and am loving it! Loads of gym equipment. Just stopped for a bite to eat in their cafe and the goats cheese and onion chutney panini is a must try, reasonably priced too. Haven't been in the pool yet but it's a decent size and has Jacuzzis. I am cancelling my membership. The facilities are poorly maintained and dirty. Swimming in the pool you can smell that foisty "I left a damp towel out for a week smell" - changing rooms are filthy, dusty and mouldy too. This is a vent from the shower room - where you're meant to get clean! Hasn't been touched in weeks. Disgusting.

I do like this gym. It's big with plenty of space and equipment. Staff and clientele are all relaxed and friendly. The vibe is just right, people are there focussed on working out, not just "hanging around" or gawping at their phones for 10 mins between sets so consequently you can get on most machines or equipment pretty much when you want. The place is clean, airy and completely welcoming of all ages and abilities - it's completely free of ego and non-judgmental. In short, it's a great place to workout and get fit. The sheer size of it means it can operate fully in accordance with covid restrictions. My experience there over past few months is that the staff and members are fastidious about complying with distancing and sanitising equipment.

Jam packed in JD. A nice Gym in a good location. But for me the equipment is a bit behind the competition in terms of age. For example another gym (don't really want to say which one) has treadmills, cross trainers and bikes with fancy screens. Also for where it's located the actual size is small. However the staff are nice and it's near the City centre so it has some things in its favour.

(Translated by Google) Great room everything is there. Instructions on how to sign up for ours who have English. Not really. Come in and call the guy from the reception, if there is no one, then press the green button on the wall to the left of the turnstile, someone will come. Further, at least on your fingers, at least hum, but show him what you want in the hall. He will deploy a computer to you at the reception desk and fill out the form on it. You need three things: an email, a bank card and a telephone. When you sign up for an account, you will receive a numeric password to enter the hall and a direct to the card will also be charged twenty one month in advance. They don't take cash! Everything, nothing else is needed except sports. clothes. Changing rooms immediately to the left behind the reception, lockers are closed with a padlock, which you can bring your own or take at the reception. The staff are very friendly, so don't worry too much, go for it! Ps. Once I lost my phone there, got upset, of course, and when I left I asked for the reception, but what if they found it ?? !!!

Decent equipment and facilities. Excellent price.

  • 4/5 Ben P. 4 years ago on Google
Seems to be enough equipment for the number of people, but very dense and not much space to move about. Equipment is a bit outdated and not calibrated (some cycling machines underpredict speed and distance). That said, good facilities, good atmosphere and good value. Perfect for those that just go once or twice a week.

I love going swimming here nice and early about 8 or 9 am it is nice and quiet and the other people who come are so friendly and the staff are so friendly. The swimming pool is a bit dirty

Poor disabled facilities Has lift but only 1 changing room for swimming and that is shared with baby changing ! Pool needs to adjust steps in and out to facilitate people with mobility problems . Shameful for a university

Tiniest gym area ever and ive been to many gyms. Absolutely no fans in the gym. Very compact and nearly fainted several times on the running machines. Gets very packed almost all of the time. Limited types of machines compared to most other gyms. No parking nearby. Opening times are absolutely discusting. Opens at 8 on a Saturday and 9 on a sunday. Shocking times for a gym! Also staff are rude and arsy.

  • 5/5 River M. 6 months ago on Google
What a fantastic facility! Even though I've lived in Liverpool for 8+ years, I always assumed this venue was only for the Uni students. While primarily it is, it is also open for use by the public. Furthermore, some of the facilities are free to use too. Many thanks University of Liverpool - I'll be attending as much as I can hoping to become a fitter 48 year old!

They have 25m swimming pool and the timetable for general lane is very suitable for students and for external people. 2023/2024 Membership for only using the pool is around £147 annual fee.

🫤 Good facilities yet inconsiderate swimmers in the 20m pool, during the morning sessions, make it hard for swimmers to complete laps. Two gossiping groups take over 2-3 lines on each side leaving other swimmers squashed in the middle. Some are forced into larger pool which they may not be as comforta...

🫤 The price is very cheap which is good but with that comes negatives, the most obvious is overcrowding, waiting for machines but other issues I had with the Gym were the Rules the Gym enforced. I understand in Liverpool Central you will get a lot of Uni students and some can be rowdy but until people...

😠 Wish I could rate it zero. This gym is well equipped however the conditions within it are inhumane. It’s a violation of the most basic human rights, training in this gym.
