Nuffield bought this Gym from Virgin 2 years ago and promised much, none of which has been delivered. The gym equipment is dated and inconsistent in performance, the outdated AV equipment broadcasts Jeremy Kyle/Under The Hammer /News with no Sky/BT sports coverage. The mens steam room is operational at best 50% of the time and now the pool/sauna and jacuzzi area has been de-commissioned for repair. Promises of improvements never materialise...avoid at all costs!!!

This is possibly the best garage I have been to so far! the guys gave me 20% off 4 tyres and even valeted my Dodge Viper free of charge.

No bad but not great. The staff are friendly and helpful and its nice that they have their own carpark. Unfortunately there is still quite a bit of work that needs to be done inside. 1. The gym equipment is very dated and breaks fairly often (as well as the hydro pool) 2. A few areas could do with a splash of paint and a tidy. (small bits like tidying the wires that hang down from the TVs in the gym make huge difference) 3.The showers could be cleaner 4.The steam room needs a deep clean, it sticks! If they don't invest in some new equipment and do the place up a little bit, they are going to be in trouble when the leisure centre across the road opens.

Nuffield Wokingham is a very dated gym with facilities that are constantly broken. Steam rooms/sauna don't get cleaned regularly and constantly smelled mouldy - a high risk breeding ground for germs. Reception staffs are friendly enough but doesn't care to do their jobs. I don't think it is entirely their fault as the turnover of management is high in this gym. Water machines constantly not functioning as needs to be drained. The small touches like lemon-infused water provided has now been stopped. The only plus about this gym are the instructors for body pump classes (Carla/Nicola/Frankie) , and the new personal trainer Patrick who is brilliant. All in all, this gym as a whole lacks care and unfortunately doesn't live up to its advertisement of a "wellbeing" gym.

Far too expensive for what's on offer. The gym is in need of refurbishment; it's shabby and showing its age. The women's changing room has stains on the ceiling and the lockers are old. There is always pieces of equipment out of order. The staff don't engage with clients and it's rare to see anyone in authority. The TV channels are duplicated so there are only a very few programmes showing, and mostly sports/football. The pool is divided into lanes which are too large for one person but too small for more than one, so you end up with a poor swim having to share, which doesn't work. The lanes need to be smaller and the attendants need to do something to manage use! Often people are mucking around in the faster lanes and this is not managed. Overall, the place needs some money spent on it, it needs some more conscientious management and it needs to get its act together against the strong, growing competition from other pop-up gyms. Come on Nuffield Health, give us some value for money because you certainly don't forget to put up fees every year!

Good points: Great staff & great classes, new sauna refurb looks pretty good. Bad points: outdated equipment, and some items are out of action and when they are, they are out for a long time, everything looks a bit tired from walls and branding, to equipment. Pool / sauna / steam room are often out of action. Pool is slightly too cold. Was a member at this Wokingham for about 3 years until decided this summer to leave.

Not my home gym but visited as was close to my office. I found the gym lacking in many ways compared to others. Needs a big refresh and more functional equipment. ok for a rare one off use but if it was my home gym i would find somewhere else.

Place is a dive.. Equipment is donkey years old.. Showers been mouldy for years.. Lockers are always filthy.. Don't know how to change light bulbs.. Anything takes months to fix..So badly run down. Not worth the money at all, can't wait until my contract runs out

Nuffield is a great gym with a well equipped gym floor (a step machine would be the cherry on the cake!), large clean pool, sauna, loads of classes and a very comfy changing room with straighteners and hair dryers. What I love about it is that the water runs hot in the showers so no lukeshower post gym session! The female steamroom needs improvement and so would the male one I've been told. We only pay half price with our health insurance and and it's well worth it.

Most of the gym machines are years past their expiry date, they creak and groan and some are even rusty! Nothing ever gets fixed. There must be better and cheaper for your money.

Wonderful gym. Clean, modern, furnished. Staff seems very nice too. Visited here as I am passing by, but I wish I lived here. This is 100+ better than my local Twickenham branch. Quiet, no useless loud house music.

opens late/closes early for a gym - gives the impression that they cant be bothered and the opening hours do not allow you to realistically go to the gym before work. Half the equipment is always out of order, left weeks on end before being fixed. Music is played in the gym loud enough you can hear it over your own headphones, but not loud enough that you would go without your own music - small point, but its kinda annoying. Staff are friendly, pretty much the only good thing, but still would not recommend this, can get much more for your money elsewhere

The place needs a good refurb. The crunch machine is broken and no notice on there. Place is so dated and dirty, I’m pretty sure there wasn’t any ac either. Looks like a youth centre, I would not recommend this gym

Only 2 good things about this branch is their staff and pool. The staff are friendly and helpful and the pool is ok. BUT The gym facility is bad, equipment are all dated, rusty and out of order. There are not enough machines and when it is rush hours (after 5) it becomes frustrating having to wait for others to finish.

The equipment could do with updating. Not enough classes at convenient times say after 5pm. Opening hours at the weekends are not convenient. Lockers are out of date, it's not often you need to bring an actual lock at the gyms. Staff can't wait to see you out of the door after the closing time. I don't see how it continues running as it is.

My biggest bugbear with this gym, is the TV screens!! I hate working out without the distraction of a TV to watch, but out of 9 screens, there are never any subtitles showing, there are sometimes up to 6 screens turned off, some zoomed in, sometimes pixelated, sometimes a wash with white... The rest of the gym is great, but PLEASE sort the TVs out!!!

I have been a member of Nuffield Health gym in Wokingham since August. The staff are very helpful. There is a wide choice of classes and the booking system and reminders work very well. The gym is well equipped. Frankie, Patrick and all the gym staff are very helpful.

Equipment was quite bad, the gym looks quite out dated, classes weren't great, it was always extremely hot in there and just felt like i was being robbed of my money.... The only person that was really good was Frankie from spin class. I dont know why but I decided to do PT sessions with Steve but i have to say was a real disappointment as he seemed lazy and had no real plan for us and a waste of my money and time...

Gym needs a refurbishment as most of the equipment and general aesthetic is outdated. However it is clean and mostly quiet therefore gym equipment are available to use.

I’ve been a member here for many years. I don’t use the gym but I do attend classes and swim. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. There is a good atmosphere. The instructors at classes are all excellent, never had a bad one yet. The membership costs are very competitive.

They are closing one of their biggest assets - the spa pool - for 6 months!!! This is a long amount of time and this is only so they can cut their energy cost. Not sure why people will keep coming to this gym when you have the new leisure places down the road...

Its OK. Could use a revamp of free weights and functional area. Lots of cardio equipment. Lifting platforms, bumper plates and a functional training rig would be a good place to start, otherwise there are better options available if you want to travel outside of town.

Classes for yoga, pilates and body balance ALWAYS full. The feeling of the gym is friendly and relaxed however I can never get a place on the classes I joined up to attend, my motivation is now on the floor and I'm tied into a 12 month contract. I have suggested they run extra classes and have been told it's something they are looking into however as a club it's not quick in resolving its issues so don't think anything will be done for some time. Worth considering when joining up as being on the wait list isn't much help if classes are released las minute when I have to book childcare/ crèche.

I absolutely love being a member at Nuffield. I mainly use it for group exercise and the timetable is full and varied - there's something for everyone. The instructors are brilliant, the staff are welcoming, and the atmosphere is fun and supportive. It's a really friendly club and I hope to see you there some time.

Great staff but everything is broken 24/7 so you don't get your moneys worth (It has been like this for nearly a year...even the water fountains don't work-massive rip off & upper management don't actually care)

  • 3/5 Louise M. 4 years ago on Google
A relaxed gym with a friendly atmosphere however you need to book the classes as they open online at 7am if you want a place (even then sometimes you can't get in!), and a fair bit of equipment is old and out of order. I've been a member for a month now and some machines are just constantly broken - to the extent at one stage there is was no hamstring curl machine for a couple of weeks and only 50% of the treadmills working... I'm getting used to it now and try to avoid peak times just so I can use the equipment but the gym overall does feel very run down and not what you expect from a Nuffield.

Good amount of equipment, pool is nice and staff are friendly, I've come from a much smaller gym so this gym feels great, classes included in membership. Cons are that some classes are near impossible to get a space on, and the facilities are getting tatty - mould and dirt in the smelly shower, lockers breaking, toilets aren't in a good state, car park isn't nice and they never turn the lights on so it's pitch black. I can put the cons to one side as I enjoy the machines they have here, but if you're wanting to shower at the gym it's not nice, and if you join mostly for the classes then make sure to book with 7 days notice.

The facilities are nice but not worth the membership price, needs a good refurb

  • 2/5 David H. 1 year ago on Google
Same story as with other branches... old equipment, and grubby showers. For a private 'club' this needs to be better.

  • 1/5 James D. 4 years ago on Google
Why no classes at lunchtime? Surely there must be enough interest to make this viable?

  • 1/5 Karen D. 2 years ago on Google
Pool freezing and not fit for use after 4+months to prepare for re-opening post lockdown. Exactly what happened after previous lockdown with excuses of broken pump. No communication resulting in wasted journey and unnecessary early alarm call. Beyond frustrating

  • 3/5 Andy G. 4 years ago on Google
Great location and friendly staff, however the machines are old and some are broken, the changing rooms are massive but look tired with a smell of damp, really needs some investment as it could be such a nice gym!

  • 3/5 Yasineyra 5 years ago on Google
In order to park, this has to be your "home" gym. If it isn't, you need to call for them to open the parking gate. Car park is at the top of a multi storey parking and when I visited, the elevator wasn't working. Nowhere did it say that you could actually use the one from down a floor instead of having to climb the 5 floors-worth of stairs making it very inaccessible. No private changing rooms and you need to bring a padlock for the lockers (it doesn't have the membership card lockers). Swimming pool is not monitored and doesn't have a lifeguard, and also has no viewing options so unsafe for anyone that requires supervision. Food and drink in the café were expensive and not well attended. Didn't use the gym so cannot comment on that.

  • 3/5 Nathan M. 8 years ago on Google
Pool and sauna are good. There Is no steam room though and the gym equipment is jaded. Anytime fitness is better and half the price.

  • 1/5 Peter S. 3 years ago on Google
Outdated equipment, poor facilities, poor COVID cleaning routines Currently, while there are several staff members around the gym area with time on their hands, there are no routine to clean recently used equipment or to check cleaning products remain replenished for use by clients. This gym has been very poorly managed for a long time, and the post-lockdown reopening shows no signs of change. Very disappointing to see that, despite staff availability, post-usage cleaning is not in place by staff.

Adequate gym Facilites but cardio equipment needs updating Steam room smells terrible Sauna has blocked drain so always a very large pool of drain overflow water on floor Which smells terribly unhealthy Quite an astonishment that this has never been seen too for many years now

Wanted to join up, asked if we could come and use the pool before we signed up on a Sunday with the children. They said they were fully booked on Sunday so we couldn’t do this- I understand. But we will use pool at David Lloyd tomorrow and join up- lost sale, customer service a bit rubbish

Nuffield Wokingham is a wonderful and clean gym, with the upmost friendly staff who offer their support when needed. The entire gym is kept clean and tidy on a regular basis. The machines and free weights are always neatly organised. The swimming pool is always organised efficiently without over crowding. It’s an overall great gym with an amazing vibe.
