Staff unfriendly and unhelpful bordering on rude at times. Preference is given to longer term members of the gym who will try and bully you out of classes. I have never experienced such unhelpful instructors in a gym before especially in a gym that is charging nearly double the price of most. It is impossible to book onto classes and with members paying such high membership £50 per month + don't feel this should even have to be a requirement. I only joined out of convenience so am now in contract with them. My advice to any potential new members thinking of joining this gym...DON'T!

1 ⭐️ For staffs friendly welcoming for our Trail visit. Won’t be joining due to the tired, unloved and unhygienic areas. *Scum around Jacuzzi tiles. *Mops and floor cleaning products in Steam Room. Aroma in steam room was of dirty mops and cleaning fluid! *Showers and changing facilities dirty and debris all over shower floors. *Some staff members looked slovenly and uniforms tired and ill fitting. (Not a professional vision) *Pool was cold not even luke warm. * Mould and peeling paintwork running down the walls near Jaccuzi. *Metal white framework full of rust. *Generally felt dirty, smelly, unkempt and unloved. 👎🏼❗️ When Virgin Gym is comparable cost a few minutes away with such high standards. No brainier really.

I just found out today that your not allowed to make a phone whilst you are in the Nuffield gym a specially if it’s in a different language. Some of their members don’t like to hear different language and the manager also agrees with them. They don’t realise it is 2022 and not 1970.

This gym is vastly overpriced for what is on offer. The gym floor is unbearably hot and I now barely ever go even though I’m locked into a contact until December. Want to know if they are planning on fixing/putting on the air con. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend. The swimming pool is always too busy and not very clean around there and the changing rooms. It’s not what I expect from an expensive gym. I was at Graves before which is nearly half the price but much, much better.

The gym has gone down hill in the past few months, the air conditioning hasn't worked for months, the spa facilities are now turned off and apparently we are only allowed to use 50% of the lighting. The cafe has no food and comparing it to other Nuffield gyms in other cities its not very clean. Very disappointed so decided to pause but tempted to cancel if it gets any worse.

Avoid!! Service is very low. It’s a Nuffield gym, not a premium gym so I don’t expect a premium service. But I don’t expect to be treated as if I don’t exist and getting ignored on my first ever visit.

I have prostate cancer and have been placed on a 12 month stamina course through the NHS at Nuffield Gym. I find the equipment very good. I love the sauna, steam room and spa after doing my workout and the personal instructors are really friendly.

I've been a member since the day the club opened. In my opinion the club has gone down hill since Nuffield took over from Greens. Broken fitting stay broken for weeks on end, of the three poolside showers only one works properly, one half works with poor flow and only tepid water, the third has the taps missing. The spin dryer in the male shower area has been out of action for weeks if not months. There is no excuse for it taking so long to get it fixed. Come on Nuffield get some money spent and get some maintenance done. Sunday 24/09/18 Some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the spindryer from the male shower area that has been away for repair for many week is now back on the wall. The bad news is it still doesn't work. You couldn't make it up Sunday 07/09/18 7pm Male changing room like a pig sty, used towel on floor lots of paper towels on floor and empty bottle on floor. No male cleaner on duty tonight. also Poolside toilets out of use due to flush handle broken. How long would it take to walk to B&Q buy a new handle, walk back and fit it? 4hr max. Lets see how long it takes Nuffield to fix it. Sunday 14/10/2018 Poolside toilet now in use after new flush handle fitted. One of the poolside showers which only had pipes sticking out of the wall for several weeks now has a new mixer valve fitted. Well done Nufield. Sadly the males spindryer is still away for repair. Sunday 21/10/2018 Large poolside clock not working Still no spindryer in male shower area. Sunday28/10/2018 Another week has past and we still don't have a spindryer. What we now have is a notice telling us that a new spindryer has been ordered and is awaiting delivery. Watch this space for updates Poolside clock is now working but is one hour slow. Sunday 11/11/2018 Another two weeks have passed and still no spindryer in male shower area. 22/11/2018 After waiting the best part of a year we now have a brand new spindryer in the male shower area. Poolside clocks are working and correct time. Happy days Sunday 30/12/2018 Female cleaner on pollside several times in outdoor shoes and no over shoes, they know they are not allowed on the poolside in outdoor shoes but they just don,t care. Lifeguard turns a blind eye and says nothing. Sunday 06/01/2019 Poolside toilet out action again Door into male changing room. I have noticed that for the last couple of weeks that this door which is a fire door doe's not automaticaly close as it should. Reported it to reception. Watch this space for update. 08/03/2019 For the last 15 years slow swimmers and swimming lessons have co-existed in the slow lane. Now Nuffield management have decided that swimming lessons get exclusive use of the slow lane, Slow swimmers move to the medium lane, and medium swimmers move to the fast lane. This is going to cause no end of trouble because some of the fast swimmers are very aggressive and think that no one should get in their way, I must say I have some sympathy for them, they will be the big looses I suggest that Nuffield conduct a survey amongst pool users to see what they think about this new arrangement. The people that I have spoken to are opposed the new arrangement. What do you think? Sunday 02/06 2019 Steam room out of use cos glass door has shattered. Lets hope they still have the temporary door they made the last time this happened, If they don't I fear the steam room will be out of use for several weeks/months. Last time this happened a new door had to be made in Germany at a cost of several thousand pounds. Watch this space for an update week by week. Thursday 06/06/2019 WOW a very nice temporary polycarb. door has been fitted. The door is so nice I think they should keep it instead of spending several thousand pounds on a new glass one. What do you think?

The gym, pool and swimming pool are very nice but unfortunately I feel violated by the contract. I was scammed in to signing a contract to only find out later that the terms and conditions were completely the opposite of what I was informed when signing the contract. I have lost upwards of £100 due to the misleading information I was sold by the staff at this branch of Nuffield and would advise anyone against signing up with Nuffield to avoid a similar fate. Would not recommend at all.

Run by woke muppets who have switched the hot tubs off indefinitely to virtue signal about the climate change hoax. Not a single brain cell on active duty with anyone in a position of management in that place. Would give zero. But unfortunately not possible. Edit: now also turned sauna off indefinitely. Muppets

Have previously been a member of another branch of Nuffield which was a fantastic experience. This one though is not as good. I mainly use the pool, as advised, came on board for a membership with a 14 day free cancellation policy. Pool is not great, always overcrowded. In theory, there are a few lanes open, but practically, everyone gets crowded into 2 or 1 lane. In the 30 min i used the pool, was asked to move lane twice to accomodate classes. Anyways, i cut my losses and opted out in 3 days. They however have not refunded my money yet, been 2 months, sent chaser #4 today.

I was placed here on a referral from the NHS. The staff are very friendly and helpful in trying to achieve your goals. They go above and beyond. The equipment is all functional and up to date. For the money, the gym is not, however, worth it, which prevents it from being given 5 stars

  • 1/5 Jessica A. 11 months ago on Google
Absolutely awful! It doesn’t even deserve a one star! One of the staff is exceptionally rude (Nando) he’s very intimidating and disrespectful particularly to women! The swim school for the children is so so disorganised! Absolutely shocking! I’ve had 5 lessons cancelled in a row, constantly trying to change lesson tines and days and their communication is shocking! They have also closed two out of three jacuzzis because energy ratings went up and left on the coldest jacuzzi and still charging people full price for membership. Avoid at all costs!!!

Always dirty in the female changing rooms, the floor is full of hair and bits from outside. The path to the swimming pool is always dirty too, with black fluff and hair. Some people shave in the shower which is not pleasant. Staff are pleasant, but thinking of leaving the gym if no improvements are to be seen as I’ve complained a few times already.

Slowly going down hill. Carpark barriers don't work so all the locals/football fans are using the spaces & I’m finding it difficult to park up! Hot jacuzzis now closed, as a result saunas are often full with loud voices, cannot relax in this atmosphere. Swimming dominated by children’s lessons hence other 2 lanes full esp. with slower swimmers & water feels chilly. Gym equipment good, well kept but the whole place lacks atmosphere & I’ve never met so many glum people working out! Sometimes gym is packed given new year subscriptions but generally ok. Staff friendly but don’t see them much other than in passing. Never seen them workout there… Overall too expensive now some facilities have gone, so I feel like I’m subsidising others in the gym for classes & pool, hence looking elsewhere for better personal value.

Best thing is convenient location. Was great when Greens, but gone to the dogs now. Always things out of order for ages before repair. Many of staff surly and all clockwatchers at evening end. Feel members are perceived as an unavoidable nuisance. Gym untidy with equipment out of place. Christmas opening hours a joke.

I recently started using the swimming pool again. I do love the pool. I must admit to feeling disappointed with a few things. Some things not working (jacuuzzi, one poolside shower, spinner, one ladies shower). It just feels quite tatty and the showers need a more regular clean. There are so many kids swimming lessons now its difficult to find an adults only time. Kids are allowed into the main two swimming lanes and no one stops this. Parents are also allowing their children to use all the changing bays despite the notices to stick the bay 3. The service in the cafe is poor and I have had to wait time to be served despite no one in the queue.

Considering how much you pay for the membership this is the worst value gym I have ever been to. Machines not fixed, water fountains that never worked for the entire time I was a member and poor customer service.

The best gym I’ve ever been to. Literally every single member of staff is fantastic. From the receptionists, the Personal trainers, the cleaners, the management. Everybody in the business are lovely, genuine, knowledgeable and helpful every single time. The members of the gym are brilliant also. The facilities are great, two boxing bags, tons of gym equipment, swimming pool, sauna, steam room. It’s the perfect gym. For the price you pay it’s phenomenal. I could not recommend this gym highly enough. F I V E S T A R S

Poolside has had broken showers for months, there are tiles missing in most of the spas, they don't seem to care about the quality they are advertising. Needs a serious over hall. Can't go in a week without something being out of order.

I didn't use the gym or facilities but went to see the Nuffield physiotherapist regarding ankle and knee issues following injury. Very in depth assessment and medical history prior to being given exercises at home to complete and a follow up appointment. Knowledgeable and friendly physio who seemed unfazed and positive attitude. Would highly recommend.

Nuffield gym is very shabby, needs money spending on it, tatty carpet as you enter, toilets that don't lock well, tiling that looks dirty broken floor tiles and wood work that looks dirty. Staff on reception always keep their head down when you enter, no cheery hello. Never anyone in the actual gym to help you on machines. Music dire in the gym when most people are middle-aged why do we have to suffer rap and v modern music. Very cold arctic blast between swimming pool and changing rooms - really unpleasant. Girl in cafe always out the back, not very welcoming

Having read all negative reviews, I did not want to go there even despite having free corporate membership. Luckily, I gave it a try and now writing my first Google review. I found staff being very friendly and helpful, one of them was wandering around the gym placing back weights. The gym and changing/shower/pool areas were clean and tidy, all equipment was fully operational, including fountains, sauna and steam room. I cannot comment on prices and contracts, but otherwise I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Went today as my friend recommended going for a viewing. Person at reception said he was too busy for a viewing and we should come back later and then let us in but said look for your selfs. The place is very nice but way to much money, more then what it needs to be, it’s like a Tory gym. The people inside are very snobby and rude. On the way out there was no help to exit, the guy eventually came and said just walk through the bars as if we are suppose to know if they were unlocked. If you like expensive gym’s then this is definitely the place for you but with the benefits gym offer I don’t think places like this should be pricing people out. Very shocked to be honest and not surprised by the type of people I found in there, very self entitled people.

This is a good gym for weights, but it is just unbearably hot for cardio, which is not what you'd from a gym of this price if The Gym Group can manage it. The hot tub is cold and uses swimming pool water to save energy costs.

I was a member years ago and used to really like this gym. I rejoined recently as it was the most convenient option for where I work. It’s not worth the high price tag at all. Virgin is similar price and offers way more. The place just feels very outdated. More machines (and less treadmills) would be better. Some of the staff are quite moody (there are nice ones too). Have messaged before on social media and not had a response. The cafe never seems to have protein or even fruit for smoothies in stock. They got rid of the costa coffee which is a shame. The air con isn't very strong. There's no music. I think 2 of the jacuzzis have been turned off? Which I guess is energy saving but again annoying considering the cost. The location is good. Whilst it has busy periods like any gym, it still seems quieter than some. Plenty of free weights. The people who go to the gym are generally friendly. It’s pretty clean. Overall it’s an alright gym, it’s just very overpriced.

Beware! Paid for 1-2-1 swimming lessons for my daughter for 2 years, wanted to finish at end of term in July. The way they FORCE you to pay means we still had 2 lessons in credit and they refused a refund. Complete rip off after spending over £1000 with them.

I really like this gym. Complaints about cleanliness confound me.. There's a cleaner in there every time I visit. Moreover.. it's a gym.. full of sweaty, hairy humans! Also, I think it's GOOD that there aren't plastic bags for wet clothes as it's incredibly wasteful and the spinner works so well my costume is nothing more than damp. The staff are friendly and helpful, I've been to some great classes and there's a culture of healthy rather than unhealthy attitudes to fitness.

I'm so disappointed about this gym. We are registered with my fiancé more about 1,5 years. What I recognise in this gym, there always somethings broken. If something broken, it takes weeks or months to fixed . It's so hard , I have 2 jobs and find some free time to go down .,. After a week finally I found some time to spend there, but the steam room always down. It's unbelievable most of the members knowing the steam room always down , and everyone having some trick and trying get back to work . The last few months is many times happened to us .. I can't believe is that hard to fix it once properly. The last couple of months I always finding some faulty equipment. The shower taps , you always able to find some faulty or broken one. Once the check in gate was broken down , we been wait couple of months to get fixed . About 3 weeks ago I went there the dryer has faulty again not first time and take long time to fix it .. Most of the treadmills are old , the touch screen has really slow reaction its difficult to set, even when u running , just pissed of many times ... The music upstairs okay , but many times they just stop playing music or playing on very low volume, may the sound system having some faulty as well. Even the staff been told , the management do not really care about .. Few months ago the steamroom door Didn't closed properly , and one of the member staff came to us and fixed. I think there need someone who can carry on this place , spend big money on a upgrade , also buying some new equipments and can be the best place in Sheffield. The good points u always have parking space , most of staff are friendly , the view from inside even from the swimming pool area it's really nice , also I always everywhere meet inside with cleaners , they keep the place tidy which is good. Im really thinking about the cancellation, I will book few places for trial , because this place in that condition do not worth it unfortunately.....

What an absolute disgrace this place is. Overpriced, over crowded, and just plain dangerous. Broken outdated equipment litters the weight room, people try and squeeze past you while you are lifting due to the lack of space. Tiles round the pool are like walking on oil. Steam room stinks of urine with slimy vents. It’s all a big disaster waiting to happen. Management do not care about your complaints however hard you try because for everyone that leaves another sucker takes their place. Don’t be the next one.

I joined in November and have found it a positive experience and would recommend to others. Always being cleaned, I have found reception friendly. Impressed by health Mot. Good sized stretching area. I have never had to wait other than very short time for equipment in weights area. Functional training area is a good space to train. Good food in cafe. Only two small things, sometimes cafe seems understaffed and you are waiting a while. K ettlebells not clearly labelled so not easy to find weight you are looking for straight away. Importantly atmosphere feels right and it feels diverse.

The staff are outstanding, though grossly underpaid. The Sheffield gym is spotlessly maintained by the cleaning staff. The equipment is very good but not perfect. There are far too many bikes, and not enough barbells, available. The function room contains vital equipment that is unavailable most lunchtimes because the club holds two mother and baby sessions in there, four days a week. Lanes in the (short) swimming pool are often blocked off for aqua classes (scheduled) and also swimming lessons for members and children at random times. The latter cannot be predicted because it is impossible to tell from home whether or not lanes are closed. We arrive only to find the pool unusable. At least, on a positive note, the parking problems have become a thing of the past, due to barriers being made operational and exit codes enforced. There are concessionary rates for elderly members, but forget them. The concession is only on full membership, not on off-peak, so you are better off going for off peak instead, it is busy enough then. Doubt if you would squeeze in at peak times. It isn't open 24/7.

Having been a founding member (I joined in the on-site caravan before the bldg was completed) I am concerned at present that there is an unacceptable higher number of members who are effectively crowding into the pool, possibly equipment, and trying to book onto the more popular studio classes. This is changing for the worse the experience for longer term members. I hear that the incoming members from your no closed centre are paying up to £10.00 less pm as well. This is unacceptable as they are damaging our experience but expecting the same service as the rest.

I read all the negavite reviews and was very reluctant to visit this gym. However, as it is across the road I decided to see and form my own opinion. I'm so glad I did! The price is reasonable taking into account what the gym offers. I was looking for the dirty areas that everyone has been reviewing...failed to found any as it's always clean ( I go there nearly every day). Waiting to meet rude staff yet...as the ones I came across have been very friendly. I'm very happy with the service and facilities provided by the gym.

I have had enough of this place after this week. Been a member for a while and it has gotten worse and worse 1) Equipment is out of date and out of order far too often. Things take forever to fix here. Literally weeks in some cases. Some of this stuff is really old and need to be replaced with more modern equipment. The 'newer' equipment ( i.e. the stuff that don't look and feel like it was bought from a car boot sale in the 1980s ) have touch screens that are so old that they barely respond. There are I-phone 4 chargers on the treadmills ( useful a few years a go I guess) and the head phone jacks on the equipment are almost all broken. 2) The changing rooms are vile. The toilet stinks like its never cleaned, the showers smell like the drains are backed up all the time. The doors on the showers don't close properly. Today there was used nappies in the changing room for my entire 2 hours stay, so obviously no one had bothered to clean ( not the first time I have seen this) . The numbers on half the locker keys have fallen off .3) The jacuzzis are almost always out of order and the steam room( when its not out of order) is about as steamy as a normal bathroom after a shower ( this is not an exaggeration ). This place is just not worth the money. It wouldn't even need a wholesale referb if things were just kept properly maintained, cleaned and upgraded when they become obviously tired. The only upside is that the staff are nice but they are working in a place that is actually worse equipped and less clean than the student gym at Hallam which is half the price and open to all.

Good facilities no doubt. Its a massive shame the weights area is a mess. People happily leave kit all over the place, bars loaded and the dumbbell racks need a chronological labelling system. Bit of a pain cleaning up after other members. If I wanted an untidy environment I'd have paid half the price for Puregym. Hopefully this has highlighted some easily fixed matters. James

I've been a member of this gym since it opened in 2001. It is, above all, very welcoming and friendly. There are many long term members It does have some swim lessons for adults and kids and Mum and baby classes, but it is mainly an adult centred gym. The pool is excellent - it is large and has lane swimming. The weights room and the cardio room are very adequate. There is a large range of classes and the focus on "well being" as well as "exercise" is marked by the focus of both classes and the choice of trainers available, some of whom are very "mind and body" trained. It is a wide-age gym - as well as young people, there are particular provisions for the much older person and less mobile, which is unusual for 'chain' gyms. Sometimes one might wish that all facilities are kept up to the 100% mark all the time - this is not always the case. However the prices are kept as low as possible to allow those on modest incomes to join, and all is more than adequate

i've been swimming here three times via payasugym but i wish it was made clearer on the website when swimming classes are planned because each time a class got in the way of lanes swimming. i enjoyed the jacuzzi and steam room, and that i have access to a locker without needing a £1 coin.

Been going here for 15 months between lockdowns, and it feels like the 'Cheers' of gyms- staff know who you are, are quick to engage if asked but respect privacy. Alan the physio has been key in my recovery from 2 significant fell running injuries, and I've pu 130km into their pool. Fab.

Why do people think it's OK to make phone calls while in a gym.... Usually the people who think a gym is a coffee shop. If you don't want to workout and make telephone calls go and do them somewhere else.. No one wants to hear them nor do they want people shouting in loudspeaker.... Disrespectful...

Joined in Dec 2020.. Friendly, very clean and equipment top notch. Excellent advise from Scott. Was at Ponds Forge for 20+ years but decided to try somewhere new following lockdown. Glad I did...More expensive but worth the extra.....Thoroughly recommended

Excellent, clean and efficient place. Was at Virgin gym and this place was miles better in every department (especially the pool).

Sheffield gym is awesome, the facilities are GREAT and MOST staff (ALL accept the grumpy angry looking cafe lady who comes across incredibly rude) are very friendly especially the girls on the desk and the lovely cleaner. I love this gym, love the clasess.

I'll start with the good points, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The facilities are clean and the equipment adequate. Now the bad stuff, the pool is very cold and the hot tub is also cold. The gym equipment lacks diversity and there is not many different machines
