Great food and service Deceiving appearance outside as with many Philly great dining places Appetizer was the golden triangles, potato with spices reminded me of Indian samosa, Burmese style. Dipping sauce and plate of 3.. We wanted to order two but we're encouraged to order the thousand layer bread with Curry dipping sauce. Again, back to my Indian palate and it's their version of naan. Handmade, served warm, very tasty. Portion sizes for entrees were perfect. I got the basil chicken (watch for πŸ”₯ hot peppers but otherwise just spicy enough to not take away from the flavor sensation) and added eggplant. We also ordered pagan beef, which has a peanut sauce. Burmese tea was soothing. No alcohol on the menu.. But we were headed to the Chinese lantern festival and beer garden after. Wait staff was very friendly and Saturday night early dining (530) there was no wait.

One of the best restaurants in Chinatown. I should have tried sooner. I had never had Burmese food before this and absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend trying thousand layered bread with curry chicken, lentin fritters. They were absolutely delicious, We tried North Burmese noodles and Coconut rice with spicy chicken curry for main course and they were quite good. Price is reasonable with decent portion size. I wish dine in was available, we can't wait to come back and try more from their menu. Instagram: journey_man16

Rangoon has excellent lunch specials for around $7. Additionally the meal comes with a choice of either soup or salad. I had the vegetable soup which was delicious. For the entree I chose the coconut chicken curry. The flavors were mild and not as spicy as I am used to, but it was delicious nonetheless. I also had the faruda which is a dessert drink, only because I was curious as to how it would compare to the Indian version of the similar name. I did enjoy it, although am not quite sure what to think about the jello substitute for vermicelli. Service was prompt and excellent and the waitress even waived the usual $15 credit card minimum. This location has plenty of seating as is tasteful appointed.

We got 7 dishes. I didn't like the Burmese dumpings, but I didn't realize they were deep-fried. Everything else was incredible. Friendly service and reasonable prices.

Love the food here. Golden triangles are classic; the flat noodles of the Northern Burmese Noodle dish seem to be made at the perfect thickness and cooked accordingly; and the Burma Inlay Fish tastes amazing and maintains the fish's crisp and flavor despite covered in a delicious sweet chili sauce!

It's in the heart of Philly downtown, limited parking space. They are open for takeaways in the covid-19 era. They even won't allow to enter people's inside, they will handover your food at the door only. So it's safe πŸ‘.

Interesting food. I never had Burmese food before. It’s very similar to Indian food. The chili chicken was very simile to Indian version. I will also recommend the Potato and poori. The decor is authentic. The staff is attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a try.

I got the coconut curry chicken. The first bite was revolting. Followed by the same disgust on bite two and three. The chicken was mushy, there was absolutely nothing else in the dish and the curry was like a bath of oily juice. No taste, so disappointed that the first bite was spit out followed by every other. Also dessert was terrible too.

Nicely combined flavors. Lentil fritters were one of the favorites. Beef curry and farlooda too. Surely a place to visit often.

A family member who is currently living in Myanmar wanted us to try this Burmese restaraunt so we could experience the food that she eats. The initial service was a bit slow, but the employees were extremely friendly and welcoming. They enjoyed speaking with our relative in Burmese. None of the eight of us had anything negative to say about the food - it was all very good. Thousand layer bread is great, but I failed to ask them why it is called thousand layer. It's quite thin. I had Pagan Beef that I really enjoyed.

Amazing food. The lady who owns this place is so friendly too. She's always like "thank you so much for visiting!!!" Some of the dishes are best to eat there thank to take out, like their Burmese Inlay Fish. The fish is fried and then topped with sweet chili sauce, so it gets a little soggy if you don't eat it right away. Still good though. We also love the string bean salad. A bit pricier than other places in Chinatown, but I think it's worth it. Oh, and the food is best eaten family style. Get a bunch of dishes and share. Otherwise you'll just be eating rice and a whole bunch of chicken or something.

We ordered takeout from this place. Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, but the food we ordered was REALLY good. Prices were also reasonable. Overall, really impressed with this place and will definitely go back next time we are in Philly.

Not an expert in Burmese food but thought this place was good. Really liked the thousand layered bread with curry and this rice dish. I forgot the name but it's picture is on the menu and I'll post a pic here too. Oh! Burmese fried tofu was surprisingly good too! Least favorite was probably taro fries but it wasn't bad or anything like that. Friendly staffs :)

Great Burmese food! I tried the triangles, thousand layered bread and Northern Burmese noodles. They felt like a combination of Indian and Thai food. They were really amazing. There is no wait time here as far as I can tell. It was perfect for my Saturday lunch.

This place is awesome. Friendly service and food was great. I strongly recommend anyone who loves coconut soup with noodle to come to this place. Tofu need some seasoning other than that it's great tasty snack food. Please go check out this Rangoon place.

Delicious, absolutely delicious food. I chose a quiet time to go, so I cannot really say how the staff are when they are busy, but they we're very attentive to me. The thousand layer bread is some of the best in the area, actually like this one much more than at nearby Penang. Their jungle curry was just delicious Thai green curry, but that's what I was hoping for as there are very limited Thai opportunities in Chinatown. The one critique I have, is that when the menu has that spicy symbol, as were next to both of my dishes, you expect a lot more heat. More spice!!!

The place isn't as packed as one would expect. Odd, but I went based on other reviews. The food is quite good ... Though I've never had Burmese food before... So this might be hard to compare. The quantity of food versus price is a little more expensive. However, it's worth the try if you never tried this type of cuisine. It's a mixed of Malaysian, Cambodian and Thai like.. it's certainly different.

Such a cute shop! I would definitely try the traditional tea leaf salad!

  • 5/5 Allison L. 3 years ago on Google
Delicious Burmese cuisine here - extremely accommodating to vegetarians, just ask. Ordered the tea leaf salad without the fish sauce and a tofu-tomato dish. Will be back.

Ordered the thousand layer bread, jungle chicken, green tea salad, and the Northern Burmese noodles. Everything was astonishingly delicious. Cannot wait to try more menu items!

Really nice Burmese food. Enjoyed falooda ice cream which you don't get everywhere. One thing I liked about them is that they were willing to substitute tofu in any meet dish they have on their menu.

Always tasty. They surprised me with how good the Okra bala chaung was. Thousand layer bread with bean dip is really good too.

One of my preferred places for Burmese food. I've had nothing but great experiences here and will keep coming back. Prices were average for the menu. This place has positive reviews for a reason.

One of my top locations for quality burmese food. Got there near six, it wasn't packed at all. Service is typically good.

  • 1/5 Stacie A. 4 years ago on Google
Terrible service, we were shushed when talking and laughing, glared at often throughout our dinner. There was NO music playing and the restaurant was almost empty. Just talking echoed through the restaurant. Anyway, we felt very unwelcome and will NOT be back. The food was ok, not bad. The chicken was difficult to chew, like rubber.
