This is a 4.5. They have some pretty impressive flavors among the dishes served. The tea leaf salad was the least enjoyable, but could be a new flavor profile that was beyond me. It's acidic and super bitter. I could almost get on board, but it was just too much. The deep fried shrimp and vegetables was very good. It was no ordinary batter. The pork with the tomato sause with pickled mango was unreal. It sounds unusual, but the flavor was amazing. The Naan was very good, but a tad pricey. The rice - well seasoned and accompanied the coconut curry very well. I would definitely come back.

Thamee is an absolute treat! From the delicious food to the wonderfully kind staff to the intentional manner in which they operate their business (living wages, healthcare, etc), this restaurant is a true gem and should be seen as a pillar and example for the culinary community here in DC. I was so excited to learn of their re-launch as a fast casual restaurant (with outdoor patio) that I had to stop in for a taste of their soft opening. The Bago Club (citrus forward) was a refreshing treat after the steady heat of the day. The A Methar Hin (beef curry) with golden rice was so tasty, with a rich, complex flavor profile. I enjoyed eating and reading on their patio, where I was even able to close my.eyes and get lost in the various sounds of H St life from the alley to the main thoroughfare. This is a fantastic local spot, and I look forward to coming in again soon.

Don't miss! Reasonable prices and so delicious! They didn't have prices available on board outside so we actually almost passed this place up. Glad we didn't! The mohinga (Myanmar national dish) is PHENOMENAL (not an exaggeration). I cannot understand what all spices make it so amazing, but it was heaven. The rest of our food was also really good, great date night spot, waitstaff was attentive and helpful. A great spot. We didn't try drinks but I saw others, they looked good. They have a neat little vegetables w/sauce they bring you in the beginning (no charge) also was good.

In an unassuming setting (they have plastic tables that move at the slightest touch), the price was very assuming. The food is mediocre. The portion is way too small for their price. The service was the only redeeming quality that made me give three stars. This is a place where you go try an exotic food, but only for trying. Will probably never go back again.

My boyfriend and I came here during our D.C. visit last month and are sad to hear that it had been closed since Friday. As someone who grew up eating my mom’s home cooking of Burmese foods, my favorite dish from Thamee was mohingar. The flavors of the fish, lemongrass and spices in the soup were rich and flavorful. It was also authentic and tasted just like my mom’s cooking. The seared eggplant dish, beef curry, and white fungus salad were also my favorites. Wishing the owner and all the staff members at Thamee the best with future endeavors!!!

Visit 1: The pickled tea leaf salad was delicious. The waitress shared that they ship the tea leaves from Burma and this is the only restaurant in the US you can get them at. I wish I had gotten x5 of them rather then splitting one amongst the three of us. The fiancee got the chicken coconut curry and she loved it. I tried the sauce (as I am vegetarian) and for me it was a little too sweet but I guess I am a bit more critical of food. It's also important to note I only tried the sauce, not the dish as a whole with the noodles, chicken, and onions. BFF got prawns and tomatoes. Didn't want to try but she loved it and had a very satisfied food face. I got the cauliflower and eggplant. One of two main vegetarian dishes. TBH it sucked. The eggplants were not cooked equally, some crunchy and some rubbery. The dish itself lacked seasoning and mostly tasted like tomatoes. I love tomatoes but it doesn't serve as enough flavor for the dish. In addition, it took around 7 minutes between when my fiancee and BFF got their dish and when I got my dish. They were half way done by the time mine arrived. This is why I felt forced to lower the stars. We ended the meal with one plate of the dessert of the day. I enjoyed it but i wish the bread was bigger. But my god, that buttery naan was yummy. Ice cream was quite interesting. Visit 2: Had the mushroom curry noodle soup. I enjoyed it but wish they offered it with tofu instead. The tea leaf salad tasted different and was very disappointing. Visit 3: The tea leaf salad was bitter. What happened to how good it tasted the first time around? I had the masala tofu platter and it was fantastic. The food seems to be really hit or miss.

Delicious meal and a pleasant experience here. The staff was kind and attentive, and it seemed like they put a lot of care in each of their dishes. I really loved the restaurant decor - true to the restaurant's Burmese identity and simple but not overdone. We ordered the tea leaf salad, coconut curry with mushroom, cauliflower & pickled mango, and the palata & scoops. I highly recommend all of them! Would love to come back for brunch. As a note - you may have to verify if certain dishes are vegan even if they're labeled that way on the menu (ex. the coconut curry comes with egg). I only wish that there was a vegetarian version of the tea leaf salad :)

Very approachable introduction to Burmese food. I really like the decor and the ambiance of the restaurant. Food was delicious and good size portions to share allowing lots of variety. Owner is amazingly nice and extremely welcoming. She has such a passion for her food it's worth checking out.

Food was generally good, but quantity was disappointing and it just didn’t live up to the hype. The vegetable fish curry was great - everything else was fine, but nothing to write home about. The presentation is definitely “casual” but the prices weren’t. The in-person menu is also different from what is currently available online, which threw us off.

The food was delicious! The service was very friendly, and it was nice to meet the cook and the owner, they came out to greet us and see how the food is. The cocktails are overpriced and outrages. Do not drink here!!! But definitely grab Yourself something to eat and the portions are big enough for 2 people

Stumbled onto Thamee when I was out biking with my son today and what a treat! The pork was tender and full of flavor, with a sour/vinegary pickle on the side that was just the right complement. The watermelon salad fresh, crisp, and piquant with mint. The limeade was fresh and not too sweet, just light and refreshing and very unique; I don't want to spoil the surprise but I'll just say it was unlike any other limeade. Best of all the people who served us were so warm and friendly. Experiencing Thamee made our day a memorable one. Thank you for staying open and serving during coronavirus time!

fifth trip to thamee and first time i’ve stopped eating for long enough to snap a photo. the mohingar - a rich, brothy, catfish noodle soup with a super satisfying fried wonton topping is the highlight of the mains, but it’s the smaller bites that really shine. don’t shy away from the tea leaf salad and my personal favorite, the white flower mushrooms, a textural delight. dine in available upstairs and on their patio. come hungry and come often.

There was a wait to pick up but there were social distancing markers so you knew where to be. I think it was more a communication issue with the customer in the front of the line not knowing they could go inside. Once inside i gave my name. There's several items you can pick up like sauces and beers from local businesses. It took less then 5 minutes to get my head. I ordered ahead and arrived past my pickup time but my food was still super hot when i got home 20 minutes later. The tandoori chicken sammie was a promotional item for Saturday sammies. Made by RAMMY Rising Culinary Star Nominee Chef Jocelyn Law. These flatbread sandwiches are made from parathas, flaky, unleavened breads originating from the Indian subcontinent. My take? Honestly incredible. I was skeptical actually and after the first bite i was hooked! Seriously so good. 10/10 recommend if they bring it back. Also had the beef rendang and it was Follow me on Instagram for more best bites: @alixtakesabite

We came for the food but stayed for both the food and the drinks. Every cocktails is as pretty as it is tasty. By the time we finished eating we were too full for dessert. The fish shrimp, Khao suew and meatballs were all particularly tasty. The only miss was the veggie fritters. We'll definitely be back.

Everything about this place is great, but if you're looking for a good cocktail don't bother. The Food, amazing. The atmosphere, great!! I've even been lucky enough to meet the head chef a few times, very sweet woman! However. I understand the markup on cocktails in restaurants and know that places tend to skimp on the liquors, but when your drink is just one giant ice ball with a few sips and costs $10.75, and the liquor is just midori, I would say that's a straight up ripoff. Still, this place is too good to hold that against it. I will still come back, but stick to beer.

Hands-down our favorite restaurant in Northwest and Beaverton! We’ve been to both locations and now that we live in Tigard, we love going to the location in Beaverton. Both locations are beautifully decorated, cozy, eclectic and the service is always outstanding. And we absolutely love the food and cocktails. I love sitting in the tents in the Beaverton location and enjoy the complimentary hot tea that keeps us warm. They are going above and beyond to make folks enjoy the experience. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job and we look forward to continuing to visit!

I stumbled upon this place randomly and I am so happy we dined here. The service was perfect, the interior is incredible and the outside dining set up is much appreciated. Clean with heat lamps. The food is so delicious! I had the chicken noodle dish and the curry chicken and I loved them both. Really generous portions with tons of flavor. I cant wait to come back after covid and sit inside but for now I am incredible grateful this place is open and serving. So good!

I'm going to be cheesy. I can't help it. We had Top Burmese for the first time at the beginning of COVID-19 quarantine when we were trying to support a local business and realized there was a Beaverton location SO very close to us. We have had it 3 times pick up and today we finally got to eat OUTSIDE (thank you smoke for leaving us finally,) and eat AT the restaurant. First off, the server, who I think may have been the owner (and chef's) daughter, was wonderful. Welcoming and friendly. She also offered a special cocktail she made with Midori to us to try which looks like a REALLY fun and creative Halloween cocktail. The food when we picked up: PERFECT. It was SO delicious. SO filling. SO fresh. And truthfully it was SHOCKING how fresh and good it was for ordering it for pickup. But let me tell you, visiting IN PERSON, put me over the top. I got to try the Rainbow Salad (all the salads are Vegan,) and it did NOT disappoint. The rainbow of colors and flavors and textures just made me feel like I was in culinary heaven. I didn't have anything to eat prior to this large salad, and I had to stop myself from devouring it because it was THAT good. We also shared a Sun and Moon salad, which thanks to other Yelp reviews, we knew was a chef's special that you can order in person which has the Green Tea Salad/Ginger Salad. Y'all FLAVOR. The Green Tea has a punch of basil and the Ginger had such strong acidity and flavor. OMG. I was moaning about going to lunch here because I didn't see the full menu with these salads on Yelp (go to their website,) and wanted something fresh but not heavy. I didn't feel like anything like a soup or curry that would make me feel hot or heavy bellied and the Rainbow salad was EXACTLY what I wanted. The roasted garlic crisp was my favorite part every time I got a crispy bite of it! The service was great, my cocktail was great, the food was perfect. Just perfect. And it felt safe and good with masks and COVID precautions. Thank you SO much for a wonderful lunch! We will be back in a week at the longest!

I never had to eat here to tell this was going to be a bad restaurant. I was running a delivery for this restaurant that was 20 mins away and right before I got the delivery done, they called me telling me they forgot an item, in which I thought was very inconvenient. But I complied and came back. So then I drive 10 miles back to the restaurant to be pretty much ignored by the rest of the staff and when finally I asked about the missing item, they said did I open it, pretty much blaming me for the item missing. No sorry makes up for the time and money wasted for your mistake. Please take your money to another restaurant that treats people fairly.

I stand embarrassed and apologise for checking your integrity as I confused your 1st street location in Beaverton with your (2)1st street location in PDX and saved the wrong number, then talked to someone on 21st street about their (same hours) availability before arriving at the first street location. I called the number tonight and found my mistake. BTW we were taking my mother-in-law for her birthday because we'd enjoyed the experience the first time. Thanks for clarifying cleanly!

Nice decor inside, nice adjustments to the current pandemic, including a cute robot that delivers your silverware. It was slow on a Friday night which was nice because it contributed to a nice quiet evening. The menu is light on variety but the flavors were all solid. The curry was richly flavored and we'll balanced with the coconut rice. Beverage menu was a little more extensive though my friend ordered the fresh coconut drink and received it in a glass, must have run out of coconuts. Will visit again, and I hope they are able to make it through the hardships businesses are facing during this time.

Appetizers: tamarind wings and samosas. Main dish: Khao Soi and the pumpkin curry Desert: sweet partha Loved each and every dish! The pumpkin was tender and the curry was flavorful. The samosas came out warm and crunchy. I highly recommend this place and will be returning. Note that this menu is slightly different from the menu of the NW 21st location.

Great food, poor service. We ordered take out to eat while we were at the wine bar across the street. We were told it would take 15-20 minutes to get to us. 45 minutes later, we called to check on it and they assured us they were bagging it up. About 10 minutes later they came, but brought the wrong order. It was delicious, but wrong.

Finally, I get to eat the foods that are very close to my heart in Portland. The foods that they served are very authentic to what I used to eat in my home town(Burma). Their kneaded fish rice and coconut noodle dishes are my favorites. Definitely will go there for those dishes, whenever I missed my country. Besides those great dishes, their services are great, they will make sure you have the best dining experience.

Beautiful interior. The tables outside during covid are also lovely and well spaced. The food has many influences, with an okra curry that is spicy, a squash curry that is rich and sumptuous, and delicious salads.

  • 3/5 Leo's T. 3 years ago on Google
Very nice spot and the staffs are extremely friendly. The hostess/ waitress was good and fast with orders and very attentive. I think it was the owner that came put several times to check on tables and even brought out food. On our way out, I think the chef came out to greet folks as well. Food was good, little salty side, but I think we have been eating at home for a long time due to COVID and not used to it anymore. Will come back, not a bad spot, very comfortable. No parking lot, but we paked right in front.

  • 5/5 Amy Q. 3 years ago on Google
We finally had the chance to try this lovely spot. We sat outdoors under cover and had a wonderful meal. The curry tofu with coconut rice was amazingly delicious. Delicate flavors, perfect amount of spice, subtle and warming. The staff is fantastic and while we didn’t sit indoors, we did step in and were thoroughly impressed with the beautiful interior. Well done and welcome to the neighborhood - we’ll be back!

Nice introduction to Burmese food. Not sure that I would go back as I found it to be flavorful but bland. Maybe I needed a bit of heat somewhere. The panko catfish was nice, definitely detected some nutmeg, bit still... catfish. The pork udon arrived not hot, just warm. The depth of flavor there was interesting but I still wanted more. I tasted the meatballs, big ok as I am not a big fan of gravy. Not mad at the food at all, just not sure I need to ever return. The service is amazing. Everyone is extremely nice and they will bend over backwards to make sure you are comfortable and understand the menu.

Our first Burmese food experience! Our server was very nice and helpful in explaining the dishes and various components that make each dish what they are. We thought the pricing for the Thamee Lay was off - you only get a small noodle dish, even though the pricing of the large noodles were much more in line with the mains. Our server's response was that it was the goal to not be so full? Made no sense to us. We ended up ordering several Lays and just ordered the Mohinga by itself. Our starters included spicy shoots & greens, lahpet thoke, and chicken/white flower mushroom, which we ordered with a side of garlic naan. The starters were pretty much all delicious. The lahpet thoke was my least favorite - it had an interesting flavoring of sourness with the bitterness of the tea leaves. Their garlic naan is so so yummy! The Mohinga was really delicious, hearty but not heavy curry broth with perfectly cooked noodles. We tried all 3 of the mains. The pazun hin's prawns were cooked so tender. The curried meatballs, while the curry sauce was really delicious, the meatballs were on the dry side. This curry sauce tastes delicious with the golden rice and dipping naan! Ma Jo's spicy tofu was just weird to us. It wasn't terrible but the taste was "why bother eating this, why bother making this". May have just been personal preference at our table. Our server was very kind and offered us another dish to replace it since we weren't fond of it, but we were already full and appreciatively declined the offer. We finished with the kulfi affogato which sounded so interesting on the menu, but was just ok - wouldn't order it if there were more creative dessert choices. Our server made our dinner a great experience, checked in with us consistently and really spoke to the food and elements.

This was my first time eating Burmese food and I will definitely be going back (next time to try dinner)! We got the bottomless brunch that includes one app and one entree plus unlimited drinks (alcoholic or non) for $35. Everything we ordered was extremely tasty and filling. A special shout out to the vegetable samusas (app) and the Palata + Curry. The house made flatbread that came with the curry was phenomenal. The Breffis Sammy was also great; the milk bread was some of the best bread I’ve ever eaten and the tomatoes were so fresh. I also can’t forget to mention the staff. One of the owners welcomed us upon arrival and was so sweet the entire time.

Wonderful journey into Burmese cuisine. While I can't personally speak to "authenticity", the execution was incredible. Wonderful fish and curry-heavy menu. Vegetable dishes were particularly good and surprising. Slightly lacking in service detail and noise levels.

There's so much love in Thamee's food. Everything is homemade, the portions are generous, and the staff in incredible. I loved their BIPOC market and the Native American wine was the best red I've had in years (Twisted Cedar). I can't wait to try the rest of their dishes.

*COVID REVIEW* I've been excited to try Thamee since it opened and was thrilled to find they had amazing vegetarian options during Restaurant Week. It did not disappoint! The pickled tea leaves salad, coconut mushroom noodle soup, catfish soup, and sanwin makan (semolina cake that was basically cheesecake) were all typical Burmese and accessible at the same time. They packaged and labeled each item perfectly which allowed us to pick it up with confidence and know exactly what was what when we got home. I'll definitely be back 🇲🇲

Your experience starts when you walk in the door and a wash of aromas and sounds roll over you like a warm breeze. Service is friendly and helpful, and the food is exciting and flavorful. Start with their fish fry, which is the perfect treatment of catfish. Crispy, peppery, it's the perfect flavor blast with the tomato chutney. There isn't a bad main on the menu. The Lay combo is a great value, and while I wouldn't go just for the desserts, they're a refreshing way to finish a rich meal.

Fantastic food and service! We were seated across the street at the wine bar and ordered food from here for pick up. Unfortunately, I placed the order online with the NW 21st location by accident. Bonehead move on my part but this location took care of us and delivered our order to our table across the street within 10 minutes. This is the kind of above and beyond service that earns repeat customers and we will definitely be back. The food smelled and tasted great. I had the chicken curry with coconut rice and my wife had the Shan Noodles. Both were excellent.

This place is awesome!! I ordered the green tea salad which has the perfect crunch and spice factor!! Absolutely delicious! My friend got Khao soi which was also delicious- lots of tofu and not at all sweet! Definitely going back to try everything else on Menu

Excellent dinner! I am a fan of Indian and Thai food, and Burmese seems to be a delightful middle ground between the two. I had the pumpkin curry which was warm and wonderful on a chilly evening. The samosas are INCREDIBLE as well. Well worth a visit!

The food at Top Burmese is excellent! I have ordered to-go food from them twice and both times have been really easy. My food was so good the first time, that I tried ordering almost identical items the second time with slightly different flavors. Both times the food was really good, but I now definitely have some favorites and recommendations. For an appetizer, it is all about the Samosas, as they have great flavors and crunch. Although it is barely a “salad” with the amount of noodles, the Chicken Noodle Salad is really good; the sauce they use has a nice tang. To finish it all off, the Beef Curry w/Coconut Rice is great; I recommend getting a full or double serving to have some extra for the next day. I can’t wait to continue dining here and trying more combinations. I will be surprised if I tried anything that I don’t like.

Very impressive - both the food and the service. Every single thing we had - tea leaf salad, chicken curry, branzino, cocktails, dessert - was delicious!

Food tasted good but we felt ripped off. Crispy wonton cups was 14 dollars and they only give two small piece. Food is not authentic Burmese. They are more focused on making money than providing good authentic food. Won't go back here.

It was incredible Burmese food, BFC ( Burmese Fried Chicken) and Burmese fish soup. Best a customer service in DC. The best example of hospitality.

Food was good (especially the tea leaf salad and chicken mushroom salad). Noodle dishes were underwhelming. Service was good, but had reservation and were seated at the bar (stools didnt have a back rest).

Food and service were ok and overpriced. There are better choices in DC for a similar experience.

Food just so-so- mostly bland with some stand out dishes - meal was very expensive. The restaurant is very loud. Some staff were great, some not so much.
