On Tirukachi Nambi Street as we proceed from Varadarajaswami temple on the right side is situated Yathokthakari temple. It is on the opposite side of Ashtabhujakaram temple and can be reached by share-auto from Tiruvadi-koil or any bus going to Kanchipuram bus stand. It is about 2km from Varadaraja Perumal temple. The temple is huge and covers an area of 4 acres. As we offer prostrations at the dwajasthambam one swami asks us to do it facing Perumal sannidhi and not sideways as to our left is Poigaiazhwar sannidhi. After doing anjali to Garudazhwar we went to Perumal sannidhi and saw Perumal lying with His Head resting on His left hand in a left to right position. At His Feet is Saraswathi devi worshipping Him. This is the Moolavar in Bhujana sayanam in reverse order and is Yathokthakari or Sonna vannam Seydha Perumal. What did He do as commanded/requested? To begin with He listened to Brahma who wanted to complete his ashvamedha yaagam in Kanchi which was being disrupted by his angry wife Saraswathi who was rushing furiously as Vegavathi to wash off the yaaga site. What did The Protector do? Well He protected His devotee by just lying down and stopped the gushing waters from entering the yagaasala. So He is known as Vegasethu or the dam on Vega. Brahma completed his yagyam and paved the way for the emergence of Varadaraja. As if to reinforce His name in the era of Pallavaraya there was one Kanikannan a disciple of Tirumazhisaiazhwar who got banished from the kingdom for refusing to sing praises of the king. The guru followed his shishya and asked Perumal to roll up His serpent-bed and follow them. With their departure the kingdom was doomed and the king rushed to Orikkai(one night stay) and apologised and begged them to return. They returned and Perumal proved again that He was sonna vannam seydhavan. The utsavar goes by the name Vegasethu. After worshipping Perumal we worshipped Komallavalli Thayar at Her sannidhi and came out to take permission from the authorities for taking photos. A group of ISCKON devotees were singing and dancing at Andal sannidhi so we had a look at Poigaiazhwar sannidhi which had details of azhwar’s avatharam as also relevant pasurams offfered by Poigai, Pey,Tirumazhisai and Tirumangaiazhwar and upadesarathanamalai and Yathokthakari Suprabatham covering the walls. As we proceeded in pradakshinam we worshipped the Vedasaravimanam and stopped by a mandapam with several vahanams. This was the Bhakthisara Premika Pavithrotsava mandapam offered by Krishnapremi swami. It houses Kalvar sannidhi and Nilathungathundan sannidhi and has a yagyavarahamurthi in between. The huge vahanams were beautiful to behold and an employee of the temple removed the cover from Hanumanthavahanam so that we could take a photo. After completing pradakshinam we worshipped at Andal sannidhi. Andal is captivating and imposing. As we stepped out an employee invited us to have a look at Srikrishna somewhere behind and when we went there we saw a faded painting of Manavalamamuni rendering kalakshepams to shisyas and learnt that swami stayed at this temple and taught Sribashyam. As we stepped out of the temple we saw a board saying ‘Poigai Pushkarni’ and followed the arrow to reach a pond in which Poigaiazhwar took avatharam. The place around was littered and this hallowed spot deserves better maintenance. Incidentally Poigaiazhwar is the first azhwar who took avatharam at this pushkarni and composed the first anthathi (Mudal Tiruvanthathi). He was the manifestation of Panchajanyam, Perumal’s Conch. Known as Bhakthisaara his sambandam with the poigai is better known and this hallowed spot should be worshipped . To conclude This Perumal who is called ‘Kanchi bhaaghyam’ is addressed as ‘Vishnu sethu’, ‘jagadhaiyaka sethu’, ‘shathamakhamani sethu’ (sapphire hued dam) and ‘Vegasethu’ by swami Desikan in ‘Vegasethu stotram ‘ He who reclines on Adisesha on the river Vegavati does whatever those who surrender at His Feet ask Him to do.

APN Swami in his upanyasam mentions that it is said that if a devotee named “X” worships Varadhan and Sonna Vannam Seitha Perumal, he is likely to get a notebook once he leaves the temple gate.. That note will have heading as “Karma calculations of “X””. Once you open that note, you will find that “This life of “X” can be regarded as waste and this birth is of no use.” But the whole page would have been striked out and written as “Canceled” because now that this X has visited both these temples, these calculations are no longer valid and Chitragupta is said to have dropped this waste note.. 😛 Such is regarded as the power of this place. And Perumal is relatively free compared to Varadhan. 😛 So please visit and have a divine darshan. And importantly, Do not forget the hear the sthala Purana of the temple before you visit.. My preference would be to hear from Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami / Sri DushyanthSridhar Swami from YouTube.. Just spend some 10 Mins. You can relate when you visit.

What a temple! Very big sanctum. And hats off to the priest here. He is one of the reasons behind the deity's holiness as he thoroughly explains the history, doubts and does it with full enthusiasm. If allowed, one can spend hours in the sanctum worshipping the Lord here. Such a divine place this is.

This is really a very great Divya Desam. Visiting this beautiful and serene atmosphere is not at all a waste of time. Children MUST be taught by parents about the history of this place, so that children gets admired by deity. This is to save our culture. The only demerit the temple has is, very few visit this temple. When I went to Garba Griham to get darshan of deity, none was around me except the temple archakar. Beautiful place.

Small but very nice temple. One of the divya desams. It is midway between Kamakshi temple and Varadarajar temple. Perumal is in ranganathan form. In tamil, sonnavanam seitha means "doing as said". This temple has a very unique form of ranganathan. The Murthy had head in the right side and leg on the left (from the viewer's point of view) unlike srirangam ranganatha. Also, the face of ranganatha is facing towards the devotees unlike typical ranganathar who faces the direction of the temple Vimama. The priest gives good details of the temple legend when it's not much crowded. As per him, vishnu lies in sayana form to prevent the overflowing of the vegavathi river, a form of saraswathi. You can find two other divya desams in short distance from this temple.

One of the divyadesams in Kanchipuram. Believed to be be built by Pallava kings and later Chola kings. There are few incriptions in the wall. Perumal is called as yadhothkari or thiruvedkha and the devine saint Poigai azhwar was born in this temple lotus tank. This temple is on the way left to varatharajaperumal temple.

Perumal is very excellent here and only the perumal will lye on this direction, he is called " sona varnam Seitha perumal " . The quarell between Brama devar and sarasvathi came to end here .He is the perumal who on the shore of vegavathi river came up on the yaagam of Brama devar and called " Varatha Raja " perumal.

I request Management committee of this temple to arrange toilet and drinking water facilities for devotees and also please try to take necessary action to avoid traffic jam on this temple entrance. Since it's narrow lane which connects bus stand and kamatchi temple too... Many travellers parking their vehicles nearer to this temples compound wall and nearer to tank by occupying the road.

This temple is one among the 108 divyadesam called as Thiruvekka shethram. The presiding deity is referred as Yatotkaari Perumal and also known as Sonnavanna Seida Perumal in reclining posture. This posture is unique in nature because lord head is on right side and foot on left side. Goddess Saraswathi is sitting beside of lord vishnu. Threetam is Poikai Pushakarini and the vimana Veda Saara Vimanam. This temple is Poikoi Azhwar avatar sthalam. Azhwar was discovered on a lotus flower in the Poikai Pushakirini. It is also believed that Kanikannan a discipline of Thirumazhisai Azhwar was banished from the kingdom by the rule of this place. The lord also accomplished with Azhwar on his request. Later King revoked the order. At the request of Azhwar the Lord returned to his original shrine. Hence the lord is called Sonnavannam Seidha Perumal as he accepted the request of Azhwar.
