Food was delicious! Service was friendly. I had the catfish etiufee. It was a large bowl with a slice of cornbread. My husband had the catfish and fried shrimp. We also enjoyed the fresh hot rolls and cold butter! We will hopefully be back soon!

This place had to be one of the best restaurants in Mcalester. The food we ordered was delicious. They start you off with role and butter and the rolls were super soft and hot. We order a steak with red beans and rice and sweet jalapeno cornbread. The only red beans and rice I have ever eaten were at popeyes. So trying these was a big shocker. They were well-flavored and satisfying. I ordered the cajun boil that came with a lot of food. This had to be the most seafood I have ever gotten at a seafood place. I think I counted 15 or so shrimp which by the way we're amazing tasting. Had a good amount of corn on the cob, potatoes, and sausage. The price for this dish was reasonable for the amount of food you are given. My kids did grilled chicken with fries and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was really good. The chicken was over seasoned but was good. The fries were good too. My wife also ordered 2 types of drinks. It was a blue Hawaiian, and a Bahama Mama. The prices on those drinks were reasonably priced as well. Will be going back to try other items.

Great chow, great service.. Local feed place that has a cult following... They're there before it opens for lunch and packed within 30 mins or less... For a reason. Friendly folks happy to serve and make sure you've enjoyed the meal and time spent. I take costumers here when in town. They recommended it and I'm super happy they did.

I saw the ratings on this place and had to stop. The server was quick to help me and take my order. I ordered a Coop F5, an Oklahoma draft and a fried alligator po-boy with fries. The F5 had hints of grapefruit which was pretty interesting. Now the po-boy. I had no idea gator could be so tender! It was amazing. The bread was perfectly toasted and it had just enough remoulade. The fries were extra crispy and delicious. I’ll definitely back.

Food is always great, busy in evening time. Lunch time is best as the portions are perfect size and cheap for the quality and flavor, and not too busy. The Gumbo and etouffee dark bases are deep flavorful and amazing. The Cajun pasta is heafty amount and the sweet cornbread goes perfect along with it. The appetizer rolls are great too, just take it easy on them as you won’t have enough room to finish the dinners. Steaks are always cooked exactly as you ask and the loaded baked potatoes are fire as well. The Drinks are not watered down and are better than bottled and they are kept full, service is good. I’ve never sent any food back yet. Always a great experience when we go. This is the best place to eat in McAlester.

Absolutely Amazing!!! Driving through town on a Sunday afternoon and decided to grab a quick lunch. Pictures and menu looked good, but they didn't sell how AWESOME this place really was. Will make sure to add this to my future trips through the area!

This was our first time at Captain John's but friends that brought us had been before. They said it was great. And it was! They didn't realize they served crab legs, my favorite! I was in crab leg heaven. We were celebrating our friends birthday with his wife and his parents. Every meal was delicious.

The jalapeno cornbread is the hidden treasure. Some friends from Hiway2RV told us this was a good place for seafood. My wife and I grew up on the coast so we chose other items. I ordered the catfish. It was great. The breading was just thick enough. I could taste the catfish. Some places use too much breading. The sweet tea was closer to water than tea, but good enough. Our friends had the Seafood Boil. We call it a low country boil back home. I tried a shrimp to see how good it was. It needed some more bite for my liking but it was good. We also ordered the shrimp guacamole. This was also good. My wife ordered the cornbread as a side. It was so good we ordered some to go.

I had the lunch Crawfish Etouffee with sweet and spicy cornbread. It was so good! The roux was pretty spicy, but the crawfish serving was perfect and it came with a large piece of cornbread with the perfect honey glaze for $8. Plus rolls to start out!

A nice dining experience. Nice service, nice atmosphere and a darn good steak! You won't be disappointed! I'm not sure why the review thinks it's a hotel??....

My wife and I have been here twice and had the steak dinner. Both were cooked to our liking. I like my steaks "Rare!" I mean rare and they have always got it right. The service was prompt and Rhianna was very attentive. Nice atmosphere and very clean and orderly. We stopped by on a Tuesday about 16:00 hrs and it wasn't very busy. If you did have to wait it would be worth it.

My wife and I ate lunch here on a Tuesday and it was packed; obviously a local favorite. Even so we were served in a timely manner. My wife got crawfish étouffée with jalapeño cornbread and I got blackened red snapper with crawfish étouffée sauce. Both were excellent! Rolls with butter were brought out first thing and were hot and delicious. Service was good and the location which is right off the highway is convenient. I also liked the interior and exterior decor. Even the coffee was good. Nice place. Recommended.

Well, I must say that Hostess Hensley was right when she told me that I would be glad that I chose this restaurant to get a take-out meal! It was located a very short block away so I just walked over by the motel office and across the parking lot & down a little strip mall. I’ There were people waiting in line- a good sign . This is a very small town, so even on a Friday night, I would not have expected it to be as packed as it was ! They serve seafood, catfish, burgers, steaks& Pasta. The special tonight was quail. I heard several diners discussing that is what they were going to have. My dining partner had crabcakes and said they were good. We ordered him a side of fries when he also enjoyed. I ordered a three piece fried catfish, a loaded baked potato and sweet corn bread. The catfish were very long thin fillets. Lightly breaded with cornmeal and deep fried. Not oily, not greasy! Really close to perfect by my tastebuds. The sweet corn bread was a huge square, nice and moist and studded with red & green peppers. Delicious. This serving was so large. I couldn’t hardly finish half! My second side was a loaded baked potato. It was a nice foil wrapped potato. It came with small containers of shredded cheese, bacon, and a packet of sour cream. It was tender and baked well, so I was able to eat it easily with my plasticware. While I waited, I sat near the bar area which was also full up. They were very busy making adult beverages. Everyone I interacted with was polite and very pleasant ! Customers seemed happy, too !!! If we ever get back here, we will definitely have it on your list of great places to eat.

Once again to get good food and service you have to leave Dope-topia aka Durant. My husband had their cat fish, fried okra and red beans and rice, he really enjoyed his dinner (i tried the red beans and rice and it was superb. Very flavor and the best part NOT spicy). I got their cheeseburger, and it was very good. Not real big on the french fries though. We did try an appetizer and their onion rings we EXCELLENT. Cant wait to go back and try another menu item.

Easily one of the best Cajun seafood places west of Louisiana that I have had. The wait staff are amazing, the atmosphere is relaxed, the portions range from reasonable to huge, and the prices are fair. Definitely worth the stop!

"I can't give you rolls, I don't have time..." -Bartender. Then don't offer dinner at the bar of you don't have time. Offer drinks only at the bar while customers wait to he seated maybe. It was my first time there. Food was great!!! Just a not so great intro :-/ I most likely won't go back.

A home run! My chicken breast was SO JUICY, and my dad's new york steak was cooked perfectly--not overcooked at all! It was seasoned perfectly too. Elias, our chef today, did a FANTASTIC job! Everything was so delicious. The service was wonderful, and options are great too!

I drove to McAlester from Bartlesville for work and was told that this restaurant had great steaks so I had to check it out. It's informal and laid back, kind of country, with great service. I'm from New Orleans so I'm hard to please when it comes to seafood in the Midwest, however the fried crawfish tails, red snapper, red beans, and seafood bisque rivalled the food back home. I left with a bag full of leftovers. I went back the following evening for crawfish etouffe which was rich and spicy and definitely satisfying. The prices may seem high but the quality and portions support the cost. It's worth it. Right now I live 2 hours away but I'll definitely make the drive back knowing I'll get a stellar meal.

We decided to try this place out the other day! We will definitely be going back. We were able to make an online reservation and had a table waiting when we arrived. We tried a variety of items from the menu. The gator bites were excellent as well as the crawfish etouffee. The fried fish and shrimp were good. My steak was a little dry, but very tender. We went on a Sunday after lunch rush so it was a little messy. The waitresses seemed tired, however, our service was good.

My husband and I went there tonight and each got the Shrimp 🍤 Boil Platter. Whereas I would give it a five (5) in quantity referencing the shrimp 🍤, I would give it a three (3) for flavor. Both of us thought the Shrimp Boil tasted extremely average and neither one of us would get it again. I did like the Hush Puppies and would give them a four, but they definitely were not the best I’ve ever had. I also did not really like their melted butter 🧈 and I am a butter lover, nor did I care for their cocktail sauce which did not add to or enhance the flavor of the Shrimp 🍤 Boil Platter. Overall, we got a large amount of shrimp, but it was just not that flavorful to us. My 🥔 potato was so bland, I left it on the platter. I did enjoy the corn 🌽 on the cob, and it, besides the hush puppies were my favorite. In saying that, we spent about $85 for our meal (before tip) and really felt nothing was too savory. I don’t know if we will go again, but if we do we will definitely not get that.

You know when you taste really good food and it gives you goosebumps, yeah that's how good it tasted. The server was busy but I felt rushed i cam alone and just wanted to enjoy my time after a long day of work. Before I could even ask for dessert the server put the check in front of me.

This place absolutely lives up to the hype. We were passing through McAlester and saw the good reviews here and decided to try it out. I had the sampler platter and it was enough food for me and my two young kids to share. While everything we had was good, the catfish was a real standout--a humble fish, but expertly cooked. Crisp but not greasy--the ideal preparation that I dream about and can't get just anywhere.

Food was good, server was great! Liked the decor however the layout seemed too spread out don't know if due to social distancing but not much room for a bigger party?? We had five and still had to wait for about 25 mins and it really wasn't that busy. The place would be hard to find had we not searched it but all in all we enjoyed our meal and the service and that's what matters most. Good price for a nice meal, worth checking out for sure.
