I stopped for breakfast with my wife. Honestly, it was one of the most delicious breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. It tasted fresh and was very bold with flavor. The coffee was standard Cafe coffee. Wait, staff was top-notch. They were working quickly and efficiently while also being super friendly. Good vibes. Would suggest!

Love this little coffee shop! Friends recommended this place near the strip district and very glad we came. Wife had the smore mocha and I had the plain drip. I normally don't drink my coffee black, but their coffee was very smooth. They had a fantastic variety of unique mixers for drinks and a great selection in their retail area. The ambiance was also very nice, spacious yet homey. 5/5 will be back next time in Pittsburgh!

Great little breakfast here. Nice service and atmosphere. Kid friendly as they have a small kitchen playset for kids. I wish my cafés back home had these!

Great location. In a fun place. Love the ambiance with the brick and rust look. Feels cozy. I tried their butterscotch latte and chickpeas frittata and they were amazing. Service was great and friendly. Will come again.

Great place to refuel in the Strip District. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's street parking along The Terminal but it fills up quick II. SERVICE Friendly III. QUALITY Rich & dense. If you don't like your coffee as strong, they have plenty of milk & alternative options. IV. CAPACITY Very very busy ~ business is good

Great cocktails, vibe and snacks! Give the hippie vibe - great for working hanging out with friends or a casual date. They also sell art work, beer, merchandise etc which are super cool but expensive. We ordered a Manhattan, espresso martini and a cookie. All were delicious. A must try place if you’re in the strip district.

De Fer... More like De Awesome! De Fer Coffee in the Strip District is a step above mostly all other coffee shops I have ever been to based on the level of service, quality of the coffee, existence of wine & beer offerings, and the ambiance of the café. The owners and managers hit home runs when hiring their staff. Every employee was knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic, and genuine. I regret not remembering employee names because they all deserve so much recognition for doing a great job. I was at De Fer on Sunday, October 8th doing some work for about an hour around 4:00pm. The Steelers had just beat the Ravens! The drip coffee was some of the best I've ever had. I purchased some whole beans that I can't wait to get into at home. I did not partake in the wine & beer offerings. However, it is pretty rare to find a coffee roaster that also has a liquor license for wine and beer sales. I really want to visit Pittsburgh again just to check out more of De Fer's offerings. The café is busy! However, the staff do an unbelievable job ensuring a good experience by bringing drinks and food to the tables instead of the customary crowd of caffeine deprived customers standing around the drink bar eagerly awaiting for their name to be mispronounced. It's just a cool space in a redeveloped industrial building with a lot of great neighborhoody things popping up around. Way to go De Fer.

Too many great things to get out! After many great visits over the last year or so we have had nothing but great experiences and need to leave a comment about it. The condensed version is that they have great staff. At least for all of our visits we have always had sweet people who talk to you like they are genuinely happy you are there as opposed to most places where they seem overly annoyed that they have to interact with you. They are accommodating and excellent in their craft. Some of the best Cortados I’ve had have come from their baristas. You can tell they give great attention to selecting and dialing in their coffees to the drink. Menu is not overly complex but still has great selection across drinks, food and desserts. Just enough to please everyone but not so much that it can’t be executed with excellence.

Very good cup of coffee. Better than a lot of places around the hotel. We started at Indigo Hotel and they would not do room service. And breakfast was not included, so walking across the street to this place was a great alternative.

We actually only got coffee at the Atelier De Fer in the PA Market. It was very good and amazing service. Great for a nice warm drink and a nice view. It's around a bunch of little places to get some food too.

De Fer makes the best drinks and I love the products they sell as well. I’ve been to a few locations and they are all consistent with one another. I particularly love the breakfast panini. Today, I had an iced lavender vanilla coffee - so good! The employees are all so friendly and they ship items! Supporting local is the best way to go.

DeFer took me by surprise on a Monday morning. Creativity in food isn't putting together some exotic ingredients. It's taking items we all know and putting out a statement that would disrupt the senses On a Monday morning with rye bread lightly toasted, with a bit of cashew butter. Covered with slices of banana and candied sunflower seeds. On top wonderful, yet not too much maple syrup. My emotional state went directly to heaven. This is how you manifest Creativity my friends. Wonderfully done

We've been stopping by De Fer for YEARS now. They have a wonderful Cafe atmosphere - Delicious food, coffee, tea and cocktails - and often host live music. They're always asking new and curious things to their menu (like the delightful matcha tonic I ordered today)

The food looked great, but I came for the coffee and it didn’t disappoint! I got a pour over that was Las Cajas from Costa Rica I believe. It was an excellent recommendation from Chris. They had a new geisha that they just released and were giving samples that was also delicious. I got a nitro cold brew to go for later and it was also delicious! Great vibe to this place and cool art on the walls. Super stoked to find a good shop coming from Cali.

Staying in town for the weekend. Ordered a mocha latte and toast for pickup. My order was ready shortly after I arrived. Very cute shop, great coffee and tasty toast with strawberry preserves. Will definitely come back again.

I LOVE their espresso blends, so delicious, with friendly staff. I can walk there from my office, which is dangerous because I want to spend all my money there. Would definitely recommend, even if you're not a coffee person, you'll like something here.

I'm from NY and lived near the strip as well for work for a few years. I fell in love with the coffee shop. It's my fav and every time I come back to Pittsburgh I drop in to buy beans.

My lady friend said they had good coffee here so we stopped in. We were together in Pittsburgh's Strip District area already for a fall pumpkin festival. It was pretty busy the Sunday afternoon we stopped. It had a pretty cool relaxing vibe inside. I ordered some sort of house special coffee. (It was recommended by the server.) I have to say, the coffee we ordered was awesome! I liked it very much. I'll have to ask her for the drinks name and update my review post. I don't have any history ordering coffee here frequently but from my first experience I would recommend it!

We went here on a whim because the diner we originally wanted to go to was so busy. I'm glad we stopped here instead because the breakfast English muffin sandwich and my coffee were so so good! We were also sat immediately. Quick, tasty breakfast.

So glad that we decided to get our lazy bones out of bed and try this place on the first day of their fall drink menu. Now I have to say at the beginning that the food was soooo good that I forgot to take pictures, but I will rectify that when we go back. And we will be back very soon while on our staycation. The service is awesome, super sweet college aged kids who are friendly and upbeat who checked in to make sure we loved everything, which we did. A huge, and very pleasant surprise was that my favorite artist, The Art of Seth, is being featured so it was wonderful to peruse their “gift shop “ area. Bottom line, the food, the drinks, the service, the staff, and the atmosphere were stellar. A great breakfast spot and if you get there before 9:30 super easy to get a great seat.

Coffee has great body to it. I had a light roast, and it was full body, no watering down. The staff are quick, kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Seriously. And its family owned and operated. They help out in the community when they can as a business. Anyone with dietary restrictions can come here and get excellent food for a price that I was shocked to see so reasonable. They got a circle of Goat Cheese for 11 $ that would cost 20$ at a grocery store. Just go check it out! Even the parking isnt hard!!

Seriously one of my favorite spots in the ‘Burgh. Quiet place to work? Check. Amazing whole food offerings? Check. Smooth, non-acidic in-house roasts? Check. Date night cocktails? Also check. They have it all. The service is always on point and everyone who works there is committed to excellence.

This place is awesome. The staff is very friendly. The coffee is great. The cocktails are great. I had a coffee old-fashioned and it was amazing. I had to come back a second time before my flight to pick up another one haha. Very nice atmosphere to work or study and good music too that’s not playing super loudly.

It’s a lot bigger inside than I thought, also beautiful interior w/ outside seating available. They have a good variety of coffee and food, and customer service was knowledgeable and knew how to explain the menu. It’s a cute place to stop by if you’re in the mood for coffee and quick snack

One of the best cafe that I have visited in Pittsburgh so far... coffee is great they offer blend or single origin for all kinds of espresso drinks. I got cortado, mocha latte and halloumi sandwich on brioche bread and that was so good I recommend to give it a try.

  • 5/5 K G. 2 years ago on Google
Everything was delicious. They've got such a great variety of not only drinks, but food as well - both sweet AND savoury things! Pork panini was really good with a nice crispy bread. I tried a very interesting lavender+tea drink with oat milk foam on top that made it look like beer haha. Husband had a honey rosemary latte that he really liked, and that even I found to be alright (considering I haattee coffee normally!). You can also buy a very unique variety of grocery items like canned fish and herbal drink mixers, plus local art. Very cool place. Will definitely be back.

I've ordered from this place like 5 times in the past couple months, it has become my weekend treat. The coffee is always excellent and they have such interesting flavored lattes. I've ordered the ice coffee too, and they make it strong enough to withstand the ice melting during delivery. I've tried a couple of the paninnis and *chefs kiss*. And the earl grey yogurt bread??? Fantastic. Today I ordered the rosemary and sundried tomato scone and that is also delicious. I can't do too much sugar in the morning and their baked goods hit a perfect balance of sweet and savory that is perfect for breakfast. Definitely my favorite coffee shop in the city now, I cant wait to finally visit in person when the pandemic is over. Right now it is a long-distance love affair lol.

Perfect classic cocktails with a twist, always something special on draft, and lots of tasty bites! Also a great place for gifts like art and ceramics. The service has always been friendly and helpful. Two tables outside that are great for people watching!

Friendly, tasty but a little confused. Soup, salad, sandwiches and specials all tasted good but everything did not come out at the same time. Certainly a great option due to location and food.

  • 4/5 Heather F. N. 3 years ago on Google
De Fer Coffee & Tea has a good variety of sandwiches as well as soups and salads. The sandwiches go from the basics (turkey, ham, corn beef, etc...) to more gourmet types of sandwiches that can include vegetables, cheeses, dressings. Choice of breads too. We both had the Barnard street club which was a mix of ham, turkey, Swiss, BLT and cucumbers. Delicious! Highly recommend. Plenty of seating. Also have a big breakfast menu. Very good service

  • 5/5 Zayne B. 3 years ago on Google
Edit: These really are some of the friendliest people in coffee in Pittsburgh, which aside from the great coffee, is what will keep me going back. They reached out to me and did their best to resolve the issue below and I appreciate their effort as a lot of businesses would've shrugged this off and/or taken the criticism poorly. Much respect. Original: I love you guys, but please up your delivery packing game. A flimsy plastic cup in no bag or holder made me have to scramble when my driver arrived and I ended up dropping my drink. There was also no straw. I ordered a sandwich as well and if you ask me, it would've been nice to have that in a paper bag with the drink to stabilize things. Instead my driver showed up with the terrible cup on top of my sandwich box. I dropped my cup trying to juggle the items and the door and the cup literally split right in half even though the lid stayed on...

I’m so glad we stumbled upon this place!! What a hidden gem. The latte was so well made and delicious. I got a brownie that was rich and chocolatey and so fresh. I enjoyed the open air environment on a nice spring day.

Never heard of this place but we saw it on Ubereats and their menu looked amazing and different than lots of stuff on the application. We tried a chevre toast, English muffin sammie, strata and iced coffee. The three food items were enough for 2 people and delicious. I like on their menu they obviously thought about how the food will hold up during delivery and offer tips (like the strata is unheated, you DIY heat up for best texture). Ill definitely be visiting in person once this mess is over!

FOUND: new favorite post-quarantine coffee shop. Popped in here while waiting for my order at Kaya and I'm glad I did. When i walked in I was immediately blown away by all the options, and wish I could've tried everything that was listed. As I hadn't prepared for that I just got a matcha latte. The barista was kind enough to suggest and make me their favorite drink, a matcha lavender latte while I was debating between that and another drink. I have some lavender at home and am now making it for breakfast, so thank you so much you kind and gorgeous person. Hoping to be able to go dine in sometime when this is all over. Until then will definitely be trying to visit during my monthly Strip trips to Lotus.
