We were one of the earliest reservations of the night and were denied to be sat in a well lit area or a few other empty tables. My wife and I could not help but notice the table we wanted sat empty pretty much the entire time we were there. Left a really bad taste in our mouths. The food was good for the price point. Some surprises and delights but nothing I would say wowed. Two people for around $90USD is a fantastic deal that can be enjoyed daily if you were not forced to sit in a dark corner next to the noisy kitchen. Cannot help but felt being placed there due to us being Asian, since a complete stranger who was also Asian (not a lot of Asians here) were sat next to us as well. Don't get the seven leches, it was a terrible way to end the meal. I definitely noticed a trend in this restaurant that if you don't look the part they will treat you like second class citizens. Get dressed up and look like you have money and you will be treated as such. To the restaurant, take it from someone who's collected near triple digit Michelin stars, you probably need to stop doing this type of obvious perceived class discrimination if you ever want a star. And by looking at the other reviews, I'm not the first and probably will not be the last to call you out on this. The hostess you hire needs much better diversity and bias training.

Somewhat disappointed with the food. I went because of the fanfare I heard about the place. The place is beautiful for sure. We ordered the 7 course meal with the wine pairing and out of the 7 2 were good, the empanadas and the coconut ceviche. I think this day it was a one off, the food felt it was already prepared and not fresh and that to me for the money we spent was a disappoinment.I did order a portion of potato chips since I saw it in the table next to us and saw how much they were enjoying them, that was the best. They are very thin, flavorful and a nice aioli sauce to dip in. I will come back and update this review.

The food tastes decently, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant, but there is nothing special and nothing to justify the high prices. The burger was surprisingly good (maybe come just for this), the octopus was decent, but the beef tongue tacos were very strange.

Considering the price point and calibre of the restaurant, we weren't overly impressed. When we asked for a recommendation for a dry white wine, we were brought out a sweeter option, which was not ideal. In this type of establishment, you expect the sommelier to provide more suitable advice. Between the three of us, we shared the ceviche (nice and fresh), pork ribs (wasn't as tender and meat didn't fall off bone as expected but the sauce was good and salad cut through the richness), crab rice (generous serving of seafood like prawns, octopus, mussels and amberjack and nice flavour), duck (more brisket like and it was slightly dry but good sauce and gnocchi was dry). The service was mostly attentive but not overly friendly.

Honestly save your money and go elsewhere. We paid almost $100 each for the 7 course tasting menu. Maybe 2/7 were actually good. The rest were very mediocre or not good at all. Pretty disappointed. Maybe the a la cart menu is better idk. Service was good and atmosphere was nice but the food not at all.

Tucked away in the heart of Medellín, Carmen is a culinary oasis for anyone who appreciates fine dining and exceptional steaks. From the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the elegant yet spacious decor, an ideal setting that balances luxury with comfort. The star of the show is, undoubtedly, the steak. Cooked to sheer perfection, each bite was a testament to the chef's mastery in blending the robust flavors of South America. The presentation was not just food on a plate; it was art, enhancing the overall dining experience. Accompanying the meal was a special non-alcoholic drink, a refreshing blend with just the right amount of ginger to tantalize the taste buds without overpowering the meal. It's rare to find a drink that complements the food so perfectly, yet Carmen has managed to do just that. The service at Carmen is a seamless blend of professionalism and warmth, contributing significantly to the delightful experience. The staff’s attention to detail and their eagerness to ensure a memorable dining experience was remarkable. A surprising discovery was the additional part of the restaurant downstairs, a hidden gem that I stumbled upon on my way to the restroom. This unexpected space adds to the intrigue and charm of Carmen. Without a doubt, Carmen ranks as one of the best restaurants in Medellín. Not only does it offer an exquisite culinary journey, but also an ambiance that makes you want to linger longer. I am already looking forward to my next visit, with the tasting menu being at the top of my list. Cheers, BN

The dishes were nicely prepared and had a complex yet appealing taste/texture. Some of the seafood (octopus) was overcooked for my taste but overall the food was very good. The service however is where they fell short. They don’t even provide cloth napkins. Staff not very attentive. They don’t clean food crumbs, refill water cups, remove empty dishes promptly, or check in regularly. All of which you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber and price range. The wait time in between courses is very long. The music does not match the atmosphere and it doesn’t help having a relaxing quality food experience.

Wonderful atmosphere, professional service and phenomenal food, however, when we tried to order certain things we were told they weren't available, it happened twice. We still remained happy with the alternative things we had to order instead, however, this is not acceptable for the level of the restaurant. It did not ruin the evening and everything tasted fantastic! Extra points for making my steak rare as I asked — I noticed many restaurants nowadays do not take this request seriously and overcook my meat, but everything was absolutely perfect this time.

We went to Carmen because it was listed as on the of the best in Medellin, though we all agreed we’d had better meals elsewhere on our trip to the city. We got the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The som was fantastic and she was very knowledgeable and gave great explanations. The food was kind of disappointing. The ceviche almost felt frozen, and was covered in cheese, masking the flavors. The pasta was great, everything else was kind of forgettable.

Fabulous tasting menu and wine pairing. The service was excellent and the restaurant was beautiful. Both the regular and vegetarian tasting menus were delicious and totally worth the price. They even provided some birthday decorations upon request to surprise one of our guests. Definitely worth a visit while in Medellin.

Great restaurant in Medellin. A cozy and warm atmosphere paired with a cool vibe, tasty food and super nice staff make this the perfect place for a dinner. Secret tip: instead of a table take a seat at the bar and you see everything that is going on, can observe the bartenders create the most amazing drinks and have a nice chat with them. Would definitely go back.

Such good food. Definitely the best restaurant in Medellin when it comes to food quality. We had the lamb and ceviche and both were amazing/unique. Loved the drinks, the food, and the service here. If you don't speak Spanish they accommodate.

Very nice location. We were here for lunch and got a seat although we had not reserved. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, especially the main course but unfortunately not warm enough. I drank a Sauvignon Blanc with the meal which was very tasty.

Good place but over priced for what it is. The fish with noodle and broth was great. The broth was so light and flavorful. The fish had nice texture and noodles were perfectly cooked. But the other dishes and drinks were lackluster and more style over substance. For example, the cocktail had a smoke when presented but that doesn’t add any flavor or smell and the drink was just a normal drink. For the elevated price (1 appetizer+ 1 entree+ 1 drink=150k) a little extra is expected. The portion is rather small so you def need an appetizer as well.

It’s very good, not mind blowing, and for the price I’d say it’s worth going to at least once for the experience. Cost ~$100USD for 7 course tasting + wine pairing. I’d expect to pay $200+ for the same quality in America

This was an experience comparable to 2 Michelin starred fine dining experience. The standouts were the filet- perfectly cooked to highlight the beef’s unique flavor with a slightly tart/sweet wine reduction to provide a blast of contrast. 7 leches- the ice cream part was actually insane. It had a hint of what tasted almost like smoked cheese and had such a rich depth of flavor that I literally dropped my spoon after the first bite. The best part is that it was only about 30 USD for the entire meal. I might just come back tomorrow.

What an amazing experience and an amazing meal. This restaurant came highly recommended from a few of my friends who had been to Medellin . It did not disappoint. The decor is beautiful. The service was immaculate. The food was some of the best that I have had anywhere and most likely the best food I’ve had in the city. All of their dishes from appetizers to entrées to dessert have amazing flavour profiles. They’re the perfect size and absolutely blew us away. Amazing food for the value. I would definitely return and recommend this to anyone looking for a good experience for food in Medellin.

We had a very nice evening at the Carmen in Medellin. At the beginning we were unsure if we go for the 10 course tasting menu with wine pairing and then decided on classic starter, main course and dessert. The cocktails were really good, especially for the price. The food was overall really good as well. Only the vegan main course was a little bit lacking behind the other dishes in ins variety of taste. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. The only downside was the payment in the end. At first the machine did not work, so that we were asked to pay cash - which we did not had in our pockets as I do not like to walk around Medellin with hundreds of pesos in cash.. after around 10 minutes they fixed or exchanged the machine and we were able to pay with credit card. All in all I would recommend the place, though you might want to ask at first if their card reader works or not ;)

Came here last night and tried out multiple cocktails and appetizers for dinner. We tried out the tiki andino (absolut, viche, Peruvian pisco, pear & pineapple, falernum, angostura bitters, and lime), the gin basil (beafeater gin, basil syrup, and house limoncello), ceviche (Pacific coast fish, meyer lemon, fermented coconut tiger's milk, & yuca crisps), octopus (hibiscus, yellow Andean potato, and caribbean creme fraiche), the tacos al pastor (pig's head carnitas, grilled pinaepple salsa, pickled onion, native corn, & cassava tortillas), and the creme brulee. Everything was made perfectly to order, decent portion, high quality, and the service was great! Highly recommend trying out the tacos, ceviche, gin basil, and the tiki andino! Carmen is a great restaurant and I will definitely be returning here soon.

The vibe is very good, definitely recommend making a reservation. Appetizers we’re very good the mushroom tartar was delicious and so were the empanadas. As for the main dishes we’re a little disappointed there was missing some refined aspects. The portions were very large we couldn’t finish our mains after all the appetizers we had. I was a little disappointed with the service there was missing some attention from the staff and drinks did take long to come.

Probably the best restaurant in town. Food was incredible, local ingredients, local high end dishes. Perfect combination of flavours of local organic products. The salad 🥗 is a must. The sea food empanadas(3) are also perfect starters. The chicharron with batata 🍠 dish (main) was super tender and flavourful. But my favourite was the fish with coconut 🥥 risotto. They have a full variety of cocktails and none alcoholic beverages. I personally tried the coca leafs lemonade… refreshing and yummy. Greatly surprised with this restaurant. Juan pablo my server. Friendly, polite and knew all the ins and outs of the chef’s recipes. Music was also on point. Ohhh and please please try the “solterita” dessert 🍮.

Nice restaurant! It was recommended to me by many people so I went but I was a bit disappointed by the food. It was good but also not incredible as the people would describe it to me. If you want to spend a nice moment in a nice restaurant you will not be disappointed. The drinks are good (I had a gin basil and it was delicious!!) and the place itself is very beautiful, very stylish!

I loved this experience, excellent service and ambiance, good food as well. You can see the concept they have and this is a lovely place for special occasions. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. I must say I had higher expectations based on the reviews and recommendations, however we had dishes that were either too salty or too bland. None of them were mind-blowing. Also, both the Rose and white wines were not chill (as they should have been). I would be fine with this if it was another place, but not for Carmen, having a sommelier and paying such high prices, this is not a mistake one can pass.

My boyfriend and I had an excellent time here! The lamb chops and ribs were delicious and the service was very attentive. We received three distinct compliments from the chef, which really set the bar for amazing customer service. We will be returning!

Great location. Fully stocked bar but limited beer selection. Great ambience. Upstairs and downstairs dining. Back opens to outdoors and lighting. We had the tasting menu. I believe it came with 6 or 7 courses and several wine selections. Desert was great. Great service. Food was great. Highly recommended.

Impressive food! We had the 7 course tasting menu. I’d say about half was very good and the other half just okay. Top picks were the ceviche, sea bass, and pork belly! The beef cheek we had was so salty I couldn’t finish the other half. The octopus was good too but a bit on the tough end. Service is good. It really is a posh, high quality kind of place. Our waiter spoke English as well so that helped!

Ended up here by accident and I'm so glad we were able to make the prefix menu for the night. The food was very tasty and honestly it always was higher than our expectations. Everytime the waiter brought out a plate we were surprised how good it was. I think the one thing you most definitely have to try here is the desserts. We can't wait to come back and do it all over again. 🙂

The drinks are all super delish, so are the plates. We ordered five different plates and they were all good. The desserts were good too but I would like more options of a complete dessert not like little pieces. The waitress we had was amazing, explained the different elements of the plate and made suggestions. I’ll be going back for sure.

Four of us had dinner here in November and enjoyed the tasting menu. Our reservation was for 630 pm and by the time we were on our 5th course the place was packed. It was delicious. Top notch service. Explanations of the courses in English and Spanish. A couple of years ago I did the same program at their Cartagena location and it was likewise superb.

  • 5/5 Veronica P. 2 years ago on Google
We tried the 9 course experience. It was delicious, but I think I would have preferred to order a la carte (some of the dishes were just ok). I also had the wine pairing option and this was great with the meal! They did a great job with the pairing and ensuring the drinks went well with the dishes. They were also able to accomodate a gluten allergy and provided alternate options for both the food and the wine/beer.

Visiting Medellin..and on a Tuesday reservations are highly suggested...well we did not however we were lucky enough to get the Chef's Table (not the same concept as US). We did the fixed menu which is like a pairing...Small plate + Libation. It was fantastic...highly recommend this place. The food was wonderful, the wine was indeed carefully selected, and the staff was friendly (I speak little to no Spanish).

After reading the high reviews for Carmen, we had to try it for ourselves during our visit to Medellin. Simply said: 'exceeded our expectations'. We took the 10 course food/wine pairing option. Very fresh and finely cooked ingredients. Lot of attention to presentation and merging of local and international tastes. After our dinner, we moved to the bar for more wine and a second dessert. Been here twice (tried the a la carte once which was equally impressive) and plan to keep coming back!!!

  • 5/5 Michael B. 1 year ago on Google
We did the 7 course tasting menu (not paired with wines) and we’re not disappointed. Everything was beautiful (the slow cooked pork belly was perhaps a little dry and overdone), well presented and inventive. Great service and cocktails too!

Amazing dining experience. Went here for tasting menu with wine pairing. I was sooo fu. And rare occasion I couldn't finish the wine. Great staff. Beautiful restaurant. One of best tasting menu and dining experience I had on this trip. They are on the 50 best restaurant discovery list and I can see why. Beautiful ambience and amazing food. Absolutely delicious and good price too for an tasting menu plus wine pairing. U can expect to pay 3x more if this was in London or new York. Highly recommend this place

To Go or not to Go: Go Go and then Go back!! This lovely upscale restaurant is located in the middle of bustling El Poblado in Medellin. From the moment you set foot in the restaurant you are well catered to. We feasted on the seven course tasting menu paired with wines and it was the best meal we had in Colombia. The food was so fresh, so delicious, each course so perfect. From the first course of delicate empanadas to a sumptuous risotto with sweet potato purée to the ice cream at the end, it’s a must! The wine pairings were so thoughtfully paired with each and every dish. After your meal you can walk around the neighborhood for a wonderful end to the evening.

Amazing! It really is an experience like no other. The food was great. After each course, I felt excited to try the next one. Probably the most expensive meal I've had in Colombia, where food is relatively cheap but it was also the best.

I was at Carmen back in early 2017 and I thought it was spectacular. Ambiance, service, design and the food were at an incredible level. I feel as time has quiet down the spirit of the kitchen and they’re just resting on their laurels. I was so excited to go back, but unfortunately the a la carte menu was a game of hit or miss. The Lemon fish was surprisingly bland, but even further down on the blend scale was the mushroom starter. The ceviche was still amazing, and would order it again. The ravioli entre was unmemorable at best. Presentation, ambiance and service are still on point, but when we go to eat and mot to post on social media, the the only thing that counts is if the food shines in the mouth.

Not sure what the fuss is about, the only thing I can think was nice was the dessert. I had requested a table and was told by the host that it was full and that if I wanted to sit at the bar I could, but I saw that there were empty tables for the whole 1.5-2 hours I was there and wasn't ignored my request to move to a proper table, hence the ugly pictures. The decor is nice but the food was just regular. It has a lot of seafood, so beware if you don't like it.

We had the 10 course chef tasting menu, not cheap but very good and with nice wine pairings. Went back a year later after they opened up again after the lockdowns. Reservations are still needed and we got a reservation at the chefs bar, very nice with recommendations directly from the chef. The ceviche was amazing and the ravioli, a new dish was exceptionally paired with a red wine. Drinks, champagne, wine and three great courses for two under 500k pesos is very good value for money. Still five stars and one of the best restaurants in medellin.

😠 We ordered a mixed ceviche and it was very acidic, you couldn't eat it, the presentation was terrible in a plastic cup. We paid 28,900 each and it was just onion, a small fish bite and 3 shrimp.

👍👍 This is a traditional Colombian restaurant. I went around 12:40 pm, it was crowded but there were available seating. I ordered bandeja paisa. Portions were large and food was delicious. I also ordered cola zero and they brought 300 ml large bottle. Unfortunately 10% tip is included. I don’t like res...

👍 Very nice food and very good service. It's a good restaurant for typical and authentic food, but it's a little bit pricey and the menu is rather limited.
