We decided to go close to sunset time and the area was pretty rough. The statues were cool to see, but the environment made it hard to enjoy the place. We ended up only staying a few minutes.

Statues are very awesome. Have some vendors nearby selling all kinds of things in the park, it does get pretty packed. It isn’t in the best area, I definitely wouldn’t go around nighttime.

Located in Centro Medellin, I love the whimsical statues. If you have time check out the free tours (please tip). When I was here there was lots of police presence to ensure the safety of the tourist in the plaza. Anywhere away from the plaza in Centro Medellin use extreme caution as it can be dangerous for tourist.

Gorgeous public art and well maintained area. Felt safe and gorgeous and loved getting to see Botetos work in the flesh.

Really enjoyed walking around these beautiful sculptures. This area is busy with locals, tourists and venders. You should be really mindful of your things when visiting. The passage with the sculptures is right next to this beautiful building- great for taking some photos. I would highly recommend taking the metro here, as you get a great view of the plaza from above. DON’T PASS THE METRO TOWARDS THE NORTH. This is the worst part of the area with a lot of illegal activity. The local police warned us away.

It was great to see all the statues. And learn the rich history of plaza Botero. There is a heavy police presence do as a solo traveler i didn't feel uneasy. Many of go places to find economically priced food.

It is a real treat for yourself to see all these sculptures in one place. You can easily spend hours looking at them, also the buildings and the people passing by.

A beautiful square in the middle of downtown Medellin. In the middle of the square you will find large works of art by Boltero, beautiful architecture. The location of this square shows (unfortunately) at the moment how divided the city is. The square is fenced off and 'secured' by police. I recommend not visiting the streets outside the square. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.

Got to see Botero's wonderful work. Nicce place, no restrooms, but you will find little stores to get drinks/snacks. Be careful with the surroundings, not a very safe place, but its a very nice plaza to have a walk, enjoy Botero's work and take some pics.

Great park with around 20 great bronze sculptures by Botera scattered around the area. Very few areas to sit and very little shade unfortunately. The usual vendors are in attendance. Very close to the Plaza Barrio metro station.

The Botero sculptures are unique and imposing. You have to be careful and aware of your surroundings. A lot of little shops where you can buy souvenirs.

(Translated by Google) What madness is the center of Medellin, people everywhere, without physical distancing, without mouth covers, in my personal opinion the implemented accordion does not work, they lock up the city for 3 days and in the other 4 the contagion must surely multiply by nnnnnnnvecessssss. Citizenship voluntarily does not contribute much to self-care. Unfortunately the only way to control people and make them understand the risks, the dangers is with authority. Asking for exceptions, ID and removing people who can not be, obviously with the little detail. The Comparendo. Beautiful plaza to view Botero’s sculptures! We went during the week in the morning so it was not busy. When we returned around 5pm, it was packed so I would recommend going in the morning if you’d like pictures of the sculptures.

Plaza Botero is a nice nice little park in the center of Medellín with a number of statues from the artist Fernando Botero. It's a relatively lively place and quite safe during they day but after 6 PM it gets a bit more shady and I would recommend staying in well lit parts at night and keeping to main streets

Must see of Medellín, the sculptures are iconic. Yes, the place is insecure and not much police around. Go during the day, aka, before 5.30 pm.

Cool sculptures. Would not recommend for tourists that are muy blanco and don't blend in. Felt very unsafe and like fresh meet. Go if you want but be weary of vendors. Large swaths or homeless folks and public intravenous drug use. Probably won't return but good to be exposed to these types of places.

Botero Plaza. In the heart of El Centro, the bronze sculptures are a site to see. Big bronze Botero monuments. It’s really nice to walk around and take some pictures. Very safe and easy to get to by metro.

  • 3/5 Amy W. 2 years ago on Google
The sculptures are great but the area is a little rough and traffic in and out is pretty bad. Recommend taking the metro. The converted church/art gallery is free to enter and has some cool exhibits.

This eponymous plaza is adorned with large sculptures by world renowned artist Botero. These figures are rotund figures for which he is famous. The Museum of Antiquities which is on the square, devotes the third floor to paintings by Botero.

Love the sculpture. Check out the museum for paintings from the same artist.

The plaza in the Old Quarter received a donation of 23 massive bronze sculptures from Fernando Botero, creating an amazing sculpture park in the artist’s home town, outside the Museum of Antioquia. Now the plaza is haunted by unfortunate people with social and psychological problems, in various states of consciousness, some in need of medical care, others a potential threat to visitors. A strong social intervention is required to assist these people and improve the image of Medellin.

A really cool plaza littered with Fernando Botero's famous statues. Its a really nice place to walk around and take pictures. But please be careful, there are definitely some 'interesting' characters walking around here that'll ask you for money so dress accordingly and don't flash phones or money around. Try to come here during the day. Otherwise it's a really cool spot in the city.

Sad. A lot of homeless very dirty. Our Uber we ordered to the plaza recommended we add another stop and change the location before we get there. We took his advice and I’m very happy we did. We drove by and that was enough. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Photos make it look way less dangerous

The plaza is nice with all the sculptures, but it is way too crowded to spend time there. You basically take a glimpse of each statue and move on.

Went at night with Sicleada so police allowed us in.. Park is closed to public at night due to homeless and other drug users that are prolific in the area. Daytime is okay

Gritty part of Medellin, even in the day. Lots of Botero sculptures and a part of the city that shouldn't be missed. I probably wouldn't be there after dark.

Interesting sculptures but street vendors are annoying. Don’t go here after the sun sets, neighborhood is full of junkies.

Botero is the the most famous artist from Colombia so this is a must visit in Medellin if you like art museums. I am pretty indifferent about art but his style is unique. The plaza itself is vibrant and a good place to photos. It is also easily accessible with a train station. I would spend a couple hours in the plaza + museum combined and give it 3.5 stars.

Medellín is working to improve parks and the neighborhood and this is one step showing it’s working. Beautiful art sculptures in this park. On my visit on 5/7/23, there were police controlled entries to the park strictly because the area is being gentrified. This is a beautiful place to stroll through and enjoy the sights.

The park is worth visiting and has great art pieces by Botero and is secure and safe. Be careful and don’t give people papaya when walking outside of the park.

Nice and lively vibes. Touristy vibes with live performance, music, street vendors, a lot of people, food spots, restaurants, hair salons. I had a good experience at this place but there was a long line up of people applying for jobs which made this place less touristy. Do check it out if you're in Medellin.

Sculptures are great. But it's so busy and so much going on that it was hard to really appreciate them. Maybe it was the time of day I went. It was about 3pm... maybe earlier is less busy. 🤔

I loved the plaza. The Botero sculptures are unique and imposing. The surrounding area can be a little bit dangerous. So you have to be careful and aware of your surroundings and the people.

Lots of odd statues from Botero, beautiful area around the church. The souvenirs of the "cat statue" resemble a "puma" so buyer beware 😆

Plaza Botero, Medellin, Colombia. Fernando Botero the famous Colombian artist donated 23 sculptures displayed throughout the park. You can actually see his work now for yourself at the Desert Botanical Garden through March 31, 2024 in Phoenix.

Great selection of Botero sculptures. Planning a return visit to explore the museum.
