temple

a
water
temple
located
in
the
cantonment
area
of
Bareilly.
The
temple
is
devoted
to
Lord
Dhopeshwarnath
who
is
known
as
an
incarnation
of
Lord
Shiva.
The
temple
is
7
kms
away
from
the
Bareilly
city-center.
There
is
a
Shiva
temple
in
every
corner
of
the
Bareilly
city
which
protects
the
city,
according
to
beliefs
of
people.
And
hence
the
name
Nath
Nagar.
In
Bareilly,
to
east
direction,
there
is
Bankhandi
temple.
In
the
west,
Madinath
temple
and
Tapeshwarnath
temple
in
the
South.
Alakhnath
temple
in
the
North
-West
Dhopeshwarnath
temple
in
the
South-east
direction.
The
site
is
known
as
the
birth
site
of
Draupadi
and
Drishtadyumna
in
Mahabharata
era.
They
both
were
born
from
the
grace
of
Lord
Shiva
to
Drupad.
As
registered
by
sacred
scripts,
the
site
of
the
sanctuary
was
blessed
when
Lord
Shiva
showed
up
as
a
Shiva
Ling
before
sage
Dhoom,
a
follower
of
Rishi
Atri,
who
adored
Lord
Shiva.
The
temple
consists
of
several
idols
of
Hindu
gods
and
goddesses.
The
main
Shivling
is
of
12
centimeters
height.
The
sanctum
sanctorum
of
Dhopeshwar
Nath
Mandir
has
murtis
of
Kartik,
Ganesha,
Parvati
and
Nandi.
There
is
a
massive
wooden
door
which
has
the
12
images
of
Jyotirlinga.
The
temple
has
a
water
pond
known
as
"Dhopa
Sarovar.
"
It's
believed
that
the
water
in
the
pool
has
medicinal
properties
and
cures
skin
diseases.
The
other
attractions
in
the
place
are
the
21-feet
Hanuman
and
Ardhanaareshwara
form
of
Shiva.
Vaishnodevi
Gufa
in
the
temple
is
similar
to
that
of
Vaishno
Devi
Shrine
in
Jammu.
However,
the
cave
here
is
artificially
created.
There
is
also
another
cave
shrine
dedicated
to
Adi
Kumari.
Shi
Krishna
Janmashtami
and
Shivarathri
are
the
two
important
festivals
celebrated
here.
