A far cry from helpful. Quite embarrassing actually. Long story short through a recent turn of events I have been living in my vehicle while waiting to be accepted into my new living situation. And I was given a pamphlet from dhs that clearly states "homeless service resource guide" where it states Glen ED pantry as a service. I came here seeking a small food box to get me through the few days I have left here in Edwardsville, as a homeless individual. As I tell the woman in the office about by situation she was quick to talk over me and tell me repeatedly that I needed to have proof of residence here in Edwardsville or they couldn't help me. After finally getting out that I only needed a day or two's worth of supplies she adamantly told me that this was a one time thing, and that I needed to "get a job, and a house" then reluctantly went to tell the older men in the pantry to make a box. I followed out of the room and around the corner where I hear the lady I spoke to tell the men and they proceed to crack a joke at my expense and all share a laugh. Embarrassed I left hungry.

Very kind and helpful people nor used to having to get help like this and never felt less than or put down, I always left feeling very grateful and with more than enough to get me through! I never thought all the years I gave to the Pantry I would need it but never think it can never happen to you you just don’t know. Thank you God they are there!!!

The new bosses have done wonders for this place. It has never looked better or felt more welcoming than it does now. I no longer dread going there!

The only thing is they only want to help their own community. And they have more than enough..To help other cities. But they will refuse you πŸ˜ͺ maryville food pantry is the same way. πŸ€” wow no wonder our world is so messed up .The people that help feed Americans are being selfish with what they have .let the food go out of date then give it away.πŸ€”

This experience was fabulous. They were respectful and made me feel important. They truly are a "hand up" not a "hand out"!
