One of the iconic building in Belgium. It is the largest Catholic Church in Belgium, located at the head of Elisabeth Park atop the Koekelberg hill. The church is popularly known as the Koekelberg Basilica. Hailed for its architecture and the 360 panoramic view of the city from its 52m top, its a beautiful attraction not to be missed. Unfortunately, the church was closed by the time we went in so couldn't comment about the interiors and the experience.

A great example of Art Deco architecture from the 20th century. If you want to see the upper levels, for a view point, this will set you back 8 euro... good parking options outside ( free )

A modern take on the classic cathedral. I visited on a public holiday and it was quiet and perfect for some introspection. The interior is austere and the notable art are the colourful stained glasses. There’s a lift taking you up to a viewing platform.

National Basilica of the Sacred Heart is an incredibly beautiful basilica in Koekelberg. The architecture is stunning ! The building is actually huge and the symmetry makes it an absolute gem in the region ! In short, coming here when you are in the area is a no brainer ! Free entrance and free parking available 👍🏻 It can get dirty around the structure during summer times because of some people who throw away their waist on the ground. The only downside is that the neighbourhood is usually very busy. There is always something going on. I visited the place at 7 AM on a sunday morning, the time you would expect to see no humans and yet, there was an accident right at the parking entrance with a bunch of guys from the neighbourhood and the police..

This Basilica is definitely worth visiting but it’s a long walk from the main tourist areas of the city. I would recommend taking public transit rather than walking as some of the walk felt a bit risky. Visiting the Basilica is free but to visit the upper levels you have to pay a small fee. I recommend visiting the upper deck if you want to have a great view of the city.

Surprisingly quiet place almost in the middle of Brussels, parking right in front of the entrance, opening hours quite limited, so you have to study properly on the Internet, we didn't get to the museum (closed on Saturdays), but the entrance to the panorama was open (you can use the payment machine to get the tickets), we saw the whole church, the 1st floor with the model and some pictures and by the elevator we got all the way up to the roof (viewpoint - panorama), the view is perfect, but I was surprised that the church is very young, I thought it is much older, there is also a small shop and the toilets, we love places like this, everywhere is quiet and peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, people prefer to go to the shopping centers, bars, caffes and of course for beer, but the churches are always empty...

National Basilica of the Sacred Heart is magnificent inside and outside. Entrance to the Basilica is free but you must pay for going up to panorama side. Bus and tram stops are just outside both from front and back side therefore commuting there from the center isn’t a hassle.

Rich in history and amazing panorama view from the top. The basilica is the fifth largest church in the world. The Belgian glass windows are intricate and give a glimpse into medeival times.

Nice to see but they let you pay 6€ to go on the rooftop and pretend there’s an elevator until the very top. However, the second elevator did not work and that was written nowhere so we had to walk 240 stairs. That’s not correct especially for older people. They should lower the price.

Largest Catholic church and wow it is massive. Once inside, it is just stunning. Beautiful stained glass windows from.bottom to the top. it also has an onsite restaurant. The views from the top are spectacular, you have to pay €6 each for the lift up which is cheap compared to other things in this city.

A roman Catholic Minor Basilica and parish church in Brussels, Belgium. Free to visit and no queue whatsoever on Easter Monday. You can take the elevators to the upper view pointing and there is a souvenir shop inside the church.

beautiful and impressive church. however, one of the two elevators you must use to enter the panoramic tower doesn't work (the one which works gets you only for 10 meters and remaining 40 meters you have to go by stairs) and the price was not decreased

Mostly free. Beautiful architecture and artwork however there is an admission fee to go upstairs and to go to the panorama. If you're okay with giving the Catholic church money, you can get an excellent view of the area for only 6 (or maybe it was 8) euro each.

Beautiful church with interesting architect! Nice to check out if one us close by. You can take metro (line 2 or 6) to station Simonis then walk the nice green area to the church. A relaxing walk on a nice day. The front door seems closed so not sure if it was open. Someone in previous review mentioned Ty’s entrance is kind of hidden. I guess I didn’t look very carefully as I heard one if the elevators are broken and not ready to climb so many stairs today 😅

The basilica looks amazing from outside it has amazing lawns where you can spend time with family/friends. From inside it's not very beautiful though I have seen much better churches/cathedrals. You can get to take the elevators to the higher floors for a much better view. But remember entry closes at 1645pm. The entrance is from the rear side.

Grandiose, as is the exterior. A gem of art deco. The basilica was built around 1950 I believe, in a modern style. Many people, including myself, don't realize it was built in art deco. 🕌 We always think of places of worship dating back a long, long time ago. This is a truly modern church. Visit the exposition that details its construction on the first floor. The dome is more beautiful still on the inside. The light cascading downwards is a delight. Visit the panorama if you have the courage. I'm afraid of heights. I remained glued to the entrance of the elevator 🛗 but the view is magnificent. You can see every-thing from the atomium to other sights in Brussels and further up. The elevator is an interesting experience too. The roof is transparent and you can see the sky above as you're taken up. A must see if you live in Brussels or visit this beautiful city, so under-rated in my opinion.

A wonder of the world! It took me all morning and part of the afternoon to get through this beautiful basilica. I can't even begin to describe what a wonderful place this is. I would just sit at the bottom, and stare at the ceiling and wonder; who in their right mind was up there?! It is so tall! The window art is unbelievable, the middle section of the basilica with all the flags is stunning. Every detail, every carve, every column and painting. This place is so mind blowing. They have a small section on the second floor that shows you (with pictures) how the basilica was built and the history behind it. As you're looking into the basilica from the main entrance, on the middle left hallway by the end of it you'll see some offices. In there is a tourist office where you pay a small amount to go to the top of the basilica, please do it! Super worth it. Overall it is one of the places I will forever remember, it is magnificent. (Tip: I sat down and played some Hans Zimmer music on my headphones and added an unmatchable immersive experience)

14th largest church in Europe, National Basilica of the Sacred heart should have a place in everyone's list who are fond of big buildings, Christianity, architecture and height. Must visit the panaroma lift which costs 6€/person if you want to enjoy a breathtaking view of Brussels atop the cathedral. Be careful not to flown away by very strong gusts of wind at the top :p

The basilika is huge and a sight to see. However it is rather modern. It can charm with the large spaces, high ceilings and modern architecture but lacks a bit in the interior. Many of the features seem lost and you keep looking for something that draws your attention. Nice to see, but not worth it if you have to make a large detour from the city center.

It is big. And impressive because of that. But inside it had this sort of cold and empty art deco style, which I found interesting to see, but it didn't catch me at all. I won't go and see this church again. The outside is nice.

Either for touristing or for a place of recollection, the Basilica is a must on your Brussels list. The largest church in Belgium (Roman Catholic) and among the 5th in Europe, it is surrounded by a welcoming park. As tourists you might enjoy the panorama - open until 17.00! - but also the stained glass in a modern style and its architecture, the museums within and the itinerary exhibitions (there was one on chocolate!). If you are looking for a peaceful time to prayer, there is a permanent open Chappel, where you can register to pray and devout even during the night. The times of service is announced on the website- as a lot of other useful and interesting information.

Entrance to the Parking area is not well indicated, so try first the back side of the building, and a 5min walk around the building brings you to the main entrance. If you leave by car, take care using the tunnel to escape traffic jams all around. Public transport by tram is recommended though. Practically all side doors of the Basilica are service entrances requiring a key or badge. Especially in darkness, take a bow around gangs and homeless gathering in this park. The inside is enormous, I'd say too big for people, looking around gave me neck pain. The cosmopolitan mix of communities celebrating there are very kind and welcoming. Big celebrations are worth hunting, they invite fantastic choirs and dance companies. Really heartwarming !

Wonderful visit, beautiful weather in sunshine, so. Pictures on the panorama terrace are marvellous. Inside, lots of leaded glass works, on the "balcony" a miniature Basilica and a beautiful exhibition. Little shop sells beautiful postcards, info booklets, magnets, etc. I so recommend!

That's a massive basilica, slightly far out from the city but worth the visit. There is a paid anatomic view worth 8 euro, which is not bad. History of this place says the king was fascinated by the architecture in Paris and wanted this place to be a near comparison of sacre coer

  • 4/5 Елизавета . 10 months ago on Google
Very pretty from the inside and from the outside. Had a lot of different stained glasses and different corners for some privacy. Only downside is to get to the panorama you need to pay 8€, which is quite expensive.
