The youth hostel gives what they promise. Large in size with many guests staying it is all standardized. I stayed in a private 2 person room for 1 night. The room was clean and the beds were good. The service was good as well, friendly and on point. The only two things I did not like as well was the shower in the room, which was too small, dark (had no light) and dirty. So that we used to shared showers instead. And the breakfast is cheap and not worth writing about. The location of the hostel is perfect. Just outside the busy center and easily reached by foot, bike or buss. Youth Hostel Vincent van Gogh is good for a nights rest when backpacking or on a low budget.

Location is not ideal, and security and cleanliness are awful. I’m pretty relaxed when it comes to hostels but hair was in all the blankets, there were weird stains, rips in the sheets, broken lockers and mouldy showers. Had my camera stolen from within a locker and staff were very unhelpful.

I was apprehensive at staying here after reading mixed reviews, but my overall stay was very pleasant. None of the problems mentioned in previous reviews were apparent during my stay. The staff were helpful, my private room was clean and quiet, the WiFi was good, and the location was excellent.

A very calm and tidy hostel. The top floor rooms have private roof-top balcony. Direct bus from BRU airport.

Clean hostel with a nice staff and nice facilities. The showers seemed a bit small and dirty, so I didn't use them, but I'd say they are on par with your average hostel shower. The breakfast was simple, but nice. It was a bit odd because they didn't have lockers in the rooms, but they had lockers on the main floor to leave your bags during the day, so basic security needs were met.

Some of the reviews written for this hostel are quite harsh. I personally had a pleasant stay. In regards to the plug sockets, there are now extension cords in the rooms increase the socket count to around 8. Luggage storage is secure and the rooms have lockers. Rooms and bathrooms are mainly clean. Sheets are fine, some people on these reviews are clearly picky. Bathrooms are shared, two showers per floor and one toilet. My only complaint was the cold showers... They're a hit and miss, sometimes hot, sometimes cold. Breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, cheese and meat, tea, coffee and juice. Nothing special but not bad for it being free. Kitchen is clean and useable. Seating areas are pleasant and bar is decent. Can be quiet. Area is safe even at late times and is close to the city (15 minutes walk). Staff are lovely and attentive. Would stay again.

Good location. Very close to transport links (Botanique metro stop, buses). Shopping mall is ten minutes way which is ideal for souvenir shopping or if you have forgotten to pack something. Rooms were clean, however blankets that were provided in the rooms were very dirty and didn't look as if it had been washed as there was hair all over it. Shower was cold despite waiting for 15 minutes for it to warm up. Breakfast was very basic, not ideal if you have dietary requirements. Staff is friendly however and helpful.

We were apprehensive about staying here after we looked more closely at the pictures and reviews. But after staying the weekend I can say that if the problems in the reviews existed before, they have been fixed. We stayed during a fully booked weekend in June and there was no noise at night and it was very clean. This hostel is also in a great location - a very manageable 15-20 min walk to the city centre - and also well serviced by tram. Would definitely stay again

A long time ago, I rented a room here for several months and enjoy my stay. Sad was I now to find out, I had become too old to still be allowed to stay here. Nowhere else did I experience this, as mostly the policy for youth hostels is to be open to everyone as along as they are young at heart, which – of course – still am :-)

Location was near to the centre but the rooms were bit old and small. Breakfast was good. We can get juice, bread toast, oats n coffee. Nearby attractions were accessible from the hostel. Bus stop is just outside the entrance so there won't be any problem with transportation.

Despite a regular price, baths and rest rooms are only accessible via yard which is inconvenient late autumn and winter, of course. The room door screeches as f**k. Gotta be fixed as night rest may be interrupted with that terrible sound. The breakfast was pretty good. Nonetheless, quite a good place to stay when it's warm outside.

The blanket was smelling very bad. Very low wifi signal. The room I stayed is in a building different from the reception, there was noise late at night coming from other guests talking loud in the corridor (maybe because no staff works in that building). The breakfast is simple but corresponds to the price.

Stayed in room 12, a two single bed suite. The furnishing of the room is quite nice, however is there is a distinct lack of counter space. Had to put our own sheets on but I guess that's part of the charm. This room is quite close to the stairs and the washroom, which translates to feeling every heavy footed backpacker on their way past this area. The window faces the street, but the noise is mostly negliable when night falls. If you are a light sleeper, earplugs are heavily recommended. The showers are like camp showers. Timed buttons with no ability to adjust pressure or temperature. However the pressure is high and the water is hot, so it gets a passing grade. As for the really good parts. This is probably the best deal you can find in price range. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful and they even offer a free locker room to store your things. The use-it maps they offer in the lobby are excellent for a self guided day in Brussels and the location makes everything very walkable.

Breakfast was ok, no fresh fruit available and blankets were a bit sketchy but overall no complaints we had a good stay here, the bar is decent and there is a little conservatory where you can sit and have breakfast. Place is clean, modern and easy to find. Free storage.

Overall our stay here went well. Had a 6 person shared room, however our bed numbers got screwed up the first night because of the faded numbers on the posts. This got fixed when we were staying there, wasn't a huge deal just moreso confusing for new people coming in the night. Showers and bathrooms were fine, they did the job and like others have left in reviews can be hit or miss temperature wise. The free breakfast was also good with juice, cereal, yoghurt and coffee options available. WiFi worked great even from the 3rd floor with multiple connections to jump from depending on where in the building you are. Terrace was nice with a little garden and the kitchen was extremely helpful. The hostel is also located right by a grocery store and a metro so access to the centre city was great. There is no elevator in this building and if you're on the 3rd floor you've got a 6 flight hike of stairs. The only thing that really brought our stay down was renovations. The entire front lobby and bar area are in the middle of renovations so you cannot use this. The upgrade in the long run I'm sure will benefit the hostel, it was just very dusty and I was almost hit in the head with some ceiling they were ripping out. I'd stay again if I was ever in Brussels.

They made me check out all of a sudden. You can't stay for more than 5 days for no reason! So I had to look for another hostel. Don't come here. One of the employees at the reception is also a douche bag. So yeah! Think twice before coming here.

We booked for 3 nights. Great for short trips, not fancy but still quite nice. We were 3 and it was very comfortable. The bathrooms were a bit old but everything worked. If you're coming to Brussels to visit it's perfect. Was told it was in a bad area but we had no problem, nor were we scared or anything. Great location. Amazing staff, very helpful. One of our group members got sick and we needed to stay longer and they made sure we were comfortable in our same room (it was booked but she upgraded the other guests so our friend didn't have to move) and suggested some close pharmacies. We really appreciated this. Would definitely book again.
