I don't understand why this place gets such great reviews. Positive point: front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. 5 stars there!! Negatives: The hotel is in a ghetto area... The building is old. The room is small. It might be good for the price... especially if you're a poet at heart, you can romanticize about the medieval-looking rooms and courtyard...but for a few Euros more, I just went over to the Central area... walking distance from Grand-Place and the Cathedral in the professional district and got a top-class hotel I'm writing home about. Anyway... Nothing bad I can write about the beds because I didn't check the bed-bug status. Everything looked very clean to me. But just be aware of the neighborhood this hotel is in. Wouldn't recommend it to solo female travelers. Again, the front desk was absolutely great!!

The person at reception gave us a nice welcome, but that's the only positive thing I have to say about this hotel. Our room was in the top floor, with a good view of the square but really hot due to the sun hitting our window during the day. The room itself was very old and poorly maintained. Out of three windows only one worked properly: the other two either didn't open or didn't close. The walls were literally falling apart. Our shower didn't stop dripping water no matter what we did. The bathroom was really hot and small, there wasn't any handwash and the shampoo/gel they left was clearly not enough even for one person. There weren't any sheets on the mattress. We had to leave the only window we could open opened during the night and we were bitten by a dozens of mosquitoes. Furthermore, the square was extremely noisy. Breakfast wasn't so bad, at least the croissants were tasty. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It seems like a good choice due to its location but it is not worth it.

Rooms are a bit small as well as the restroom but at the end of the day you get what you are paying for. The breakfast was nice though. Overall yeah if you are looking for value, then look at this place.

I was really pleased with my stay! The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but my room (shared female-only) was very cute, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was excellent (best free breakfast I've ever had at a hostel!), and the space was really funky and cool. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating areas. LOVED the flea market that is right out front of the hostel every day, and loved the neighborhood surrounding it. Would gladly stay here again!

A very average hostel and hotel in Brussels, although sadly there is not much choice for those on a budget. I moved to this hostel as I was not happy with the area of the previous one I'd been staying it. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm. While the beds were rather comfortable, the general cleanliness could be much improved, as I don't think the bed "pods" are cleaned regularly - there was a lot of dirt that could easily be vacuumed up. The bathroom was not very clean and I was happy to have flip flops to use while showering. There is also little ventilation as it is below ground so it gets hot very quickly. However, the staff were very kind and allowed me to check in early. The free breakfast was also lovely, offering a continental breakfast with coffee, teas and juices. It was a great way to start the day.

I would not stay again there. The ceiling just above the bed was moldy. The toilet in the room was disgusting all the time. The only good thing was the breakfast.

I stayed here with my wife on our honeymoon in 2000. This review is late I know, but still..... we loved this place and have stayed here on more then one occasion. Breakfast food was great especially the croissants. Rooms clean and tidy and front desk friendly.

Bed was very comfortable and the curtains are a really nice addition. The room had 12 lockers and every single one of them was broken and staff knew but didn’t seem to mind. Would have been good to have a safe place to lock my things at night. The bathroom was extremely small especially for 8 beds. There didn’t appear to be a kitchen to cook food which was disappointing but there is plenty of restaurants nearby and a supermarket too.

Very interesting location. The interior of the dorms is similar to the bunks of a ship. Not the best venue we have stayed in but it is closer to the station than most and thus is convenient. Check the extent of the catering facilities as I was not sure if there is a freezer

Irresponsible hostel as they cancelled my reservation on the day of arrival. I texted them through booking.com one month ago, however there was no response from them. And suddenly they decided to reply today(day of arrival) that they are closed for 3 months. No other alternative accommodation was provided. Horrible experience. I hope you can just close down and remove your property from any website.

Old and dirt building. The staff no English speaking and no helpful. The bathroom and toilets dirty also. Bad breakfast,no choices and the most funny is that it has paper dishes and plastic spoons and forks, like my young child's birthday party. The only good is the center location.

We booked this hotel because it was the only one available with such short notice and we were very pleasantly surprised! Our room was very nice and clean, tastefully decorated, the bed was very comfortable, and we had a heater. The breakfast is buffet style and very good. It's only 15 min (max) from the city center and main square. But hands down what made it so great was Manon - who was attending at the front desk. We arrived late and were very hungry so she offered to get us some breakfast food. She was very kind and helpful throughout our stay.

We had a very pleasant stay in a double room at Galia in October 2018. We were on the top floor but as long as you don't mind stairs it was no issue. The room and bathroom were small and simple but clean and perfectably serviceable, and the staff was polite. Included breakfast was quite good! Area was convenient for walking around the city and extremely close to the train station (Midi).

"Hostel" Galia, not hotel. :-) Having said that, the staff were some of the friendliest that I have seen at a hostel. Super helpful with all the questions we had and gave us suggestions too. Breakfast was included, which was handy. The croissants were fresh, warm and lovely! There was a selection of breads, cheeses and meats, and the usual lot of cereals and juice. There was also a hot counter where eggs, sausages, etc were being served. The room we had (33) was small, but enough for 2 people. However the window faced another place and thus couldn't be kept open without losing total privacy. A weird incident did happen to us. The night we were staying, someone passed a note under our door that warned us that they had moved their room recently from the one we were in because the bed had bed bugs! But we were too late, the place was full so we slept anyways. However, we didn't get bitten. So maybe the staff had changed the bedding before we arrived?

I keep a very good experience of this hostel. The hotel has a great location as it is close to the midi railway station and also 10min away from the Grand Place. I have been staying for over a month and I never felt about complaining about anything. The staff was always responsive, polite and professional. They are very friendly and welcoming! The bed sheets are cleaned everyday as well as the rooms, there is no smell and I slept in over 4 different rooms over the course of my long stay. Oh and the mattresses are of high quality, I never had back pain during those 40 nights. It's all very neat and fresh. There is a lounge where you can get free breakfast from 7am to 10am, with plenty of different food to please everyone. I greatly recommend to check the Hotel - Hostel Galia as it is by far my favorite in all Brussels!
