Great, clean and well located hostel. Thomas the receptionist definitely knows all the best places and tips and tricks of Brussels. His service is impeccable ! Thank you and see you soon :)

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. great clean and spacious rooms. nice people and free breakfast, which is acctualy good. loved my stay here, will come back. Upon request they even reserved me a lower bed. I stayed in a four person female dorm with shower and toilett everything was clean. Loved all the little quotes all around the building.

Quite hostel in a nice neighborhood in the centre of Brussels! The hostel is clean and modern. The owners are very friendly and helpful. A place to feel at home.

Okay place. Easy to walk to downtown and the toilets and showers were very clean. The staff was overall quite rude. The walls are not isolated and the noise is constant through the night. Breakfast was very simple and plain.

Tl;dr: not perfect, but definitely the best hostel in Brussels. This is definitely the best hostel in Brussels. A large part of that is thanks to the staff, who were friendly, fun, and helpful without exception. (Thank you especially to Wolter and to the girl working the breakfast shift in the kitchen!) The attention to detail was high, whether at reception, amongst the cleaning staff, or with the kitchen crew. I felt very safe and at home. The hostel's facilities are also good, with large space on the ground floor that includes tables with plentiful powerpoints as well as couches next to some book shelves. This is helpful for the remote worker or keen blogger alike. Such open space is not available at other hostels in town (e.g. SleepWell). Also, once you've checked in, the property is accessible round-the-clock. Breakfast is included and has a range of options. The room I was in had four beds as well as large lockers, a rail for hanging clothes, hooks for coats, and a desk to work at. Each bed has a light and powerpoint, and all rooms are single-gender. The beds were reasonably comfortable, though I would have preferred a livelier pillow and the reassurance that blankets were regularly washed. The view from rooms and the restaurant overlooks the church where Bruegel is apparently buried, and the decor within the hostel reflects Bruegel's artwork. I gained an unexpected appreciation of his work! Efforts are also made to be environmentally-friendly, with timed lights and push-button showers, as well as recycling points around the ground floor. There were only two minor points for this hostel: that the beds don't have individual curtains that are increasingly standard in hostels designed for back-packers, and that the price point is a little high. That said, hostels in Brussels don't tend to have curtains (one in the centre does, but has lock-out between 11am and 3pm so that you cannot access your room for any reason at all), and prices are 15e above what you'd expect to pay in other cities at ALL the local hostels.

Nice accommodation on a budget. Needs a bit of maintenance in the rooms (the blinds were missing and damaged on the two windows, for example) but the rest of the facilities were very nice. Great location for easy access to lots of major attractions, parks, and shops.

In general this was a rather negative stay. We were at the hostel for 6 nights and every night someone had something to say. Wether it was new hairs in the showers, or the lights in the corridor keeping them awake or the noise from the street side. Location is perfect.

I really liked the hostel. I stayed for 2 nights. The only problem for me was because it was full of teenagers and they were making a lot of noise when people should be sleeping at night. The breakfast was very good!

The WiFi works really well and there's lots of social areas. Also lots of places to charge your phone and other electronics. The location is also really good. Unfortunately unknown to reception, the dorm room I was in had a damp wall, a leak and mold in the bathroom. I let reception know and asked for some money back. The next day I was refunded $18.60 and upgraded to a private room for my remaining 2 nights

Not a huge fan of the grime on the shower walls, but I'm rating four stars anyway. The lobby area is spacious and has multiple plug to charge your devices. The rooms are small, but fine. But the service was fantastic. I was in a bit of a bind (couldn't find a box for a checked bag) and the reception helped me find some cardboard boxes and tape. It worked! And all my items made it home safely. Not only did he not have to do this, but he helped me do this at 10pm... he certainly did not have to do that. It's also the best price I think I've ever seen in Belgium. I payed €23.50 with the Hostelling International discount (breakfast included). I may not stay there for a week, but for my one quick night before a flight, it was fantastic!

The worst hostel I've ever been to. You can feel the air of the outside in your room, as the door insulation is so bad. The service was really good though.

Huge thanks to excellent people who work at Hostel Bruegel. Always great stay for FOSDEM conference. Affordable, friendly, neat and full of cool features. Staff are always friendly and attentive and are going extra mile for you. Breakfast is awesome. Lounge area is awesome, too: purified water dispenser, nice radio, a lot of sockets for plugs and USB, books, company of other tenants.

We enjoyed the stay in the Hostel Bruegel because it is centrally located and it is tidy and clean. The room rate is very reasonable and it is even included a breakfast. My only comment about the room is the shower and the light in the bathroom. The shower head is not reachable nor removable that I am not accustom to it. There is no supply of floor mat for the wet feet after showering. I don't mind to pay extra for the floor mat. There is also no rubbish bin in the room. The light in the shower room turns off after every 5 minutes. That is indeed not so comfortable. Also, the room is described as double room but it is indeed a bunk bed room. I think a more accurate description is needed. The said-to-be drinkable tap water tastes a bit strange for us.

Quite nice for a hostel. Room tidy and clean. Great view. Very good breakfast. Only downside there was no toilet inside the room (there was shower and sink though). Only a short walk to the city center.

It was a comfortable stay. The staff was good. It is also at a good location. The rooms and the shower room were just a little small. But overall it was a nice and comfy experience

Was a really nice stay. Loved the location and had everything I’d need. I only had to get used to the shower and the automatic light inside the bathroom, but whatever. :)

Hostel was super nice, the manager in the of the staff is not the nicest but the rest of the staff was super helpful. Rooms are oke, just the lights are switching on randomly trough the night:D Food is amazing, lot of variety so for the price is a really nice place in the central

I would probably rate Hostel Bruegel as one of the best hostels I´ve ever been. I decided to go on a solo trip around Belgium and having the opportunity to stay in a 4-bed female room was the best decision. Of course, you don´t know with whom are you gonna be sharing the room but in my case, I was so lucky to having met cool people. The first impression coming inside the hostel is so good, and also happens when entering in the room and bathrooms. Cleanliness is a fact and is something to appreciate. The team is so nice and helpful. There were few groups during my first night who were coming around the corridor making noise and having fun but as soon as I made a comment in reception, things went better. Is true that in summer at night windows normally keep oppened, so if your room is on the street side, probably is gonna be a bit noisy at night, but apart from that, everything perfect. The location is amazing, in 10 minutes walking you are in the middle of Grote Markt and the Central Station is even closer. I would definetly come back again if im back in Belgium.

It is a good hotel with reasonable prices but rooms don't have air conditioning and another problem is that you can't fully open the window.

I stayed here for 2 nights in May. It was a good hostel. They provided what we need for a short stay. The room was small but it’s clean. Elevator worked well. They also provided free breakfast with bread, jam, and some fruits. For me breakfast was okay. As a Muslim traveler, they did have halal menu. They wrote down which one is halal. For me it’s incredible. The location was in the center. Very close to almost everything. Unfortunately I didn’t like the bathroom. It was clean but the water from the shower went everywhere in the small room, it’s really uncomfortable. I think they should change it with the normal shower. It’d be better if they provided soap and shampoo as well. A lady from the receptionist was very friendly. I didn’t have hard time to check in. Didn’t forget about the cleaning staff and kitchen staff who were very nice. Had a nice experience for staying here, except the shower problem 😂

Nice hostel in a very central location, place is kind of clean, had a room with own shower cabin the head of shower was not there and glass doors of cabin seems to be never cleaned so all have been in stains we had our own basin in a room but this didnt had any soap or paper tissues. Need to additionally pay for towels, and to put on the bedding on yourself, the leather matress could be cleaned better since there are many small hairs was on it, was required to bring the bed sheets down after check out. Star less because doors are very loud so it is not possible to sleep without any earplugs and even with them still banging doors are too loud :)

The hostel features neat and welcoming shared lounge, with free drinking water and a courtyard where you can have a pleasant meal. Breakfast is included and fairly decent, you can ask for gluten free bread if needed. Ensuite rooms are quite spacious.

I didn't have very much time in Brussels and this hostel was great! the rooms are a little cramped, but breakfast is included, the location is amazing and the price point is great. Bathrooms could have been cleaner, but overall great hostel.

The hostel's location is beyond any doubt the best feature of the hostel followed by the very good breakfast, however there is a big flaw on the properness of the installations. Unfortunately the stairs and corridors were really dirty, and therefore, the rooms as well which make our stay uncomfortable; my wife had a very bad allergy because of the dust and and could not practically sleep the two nights we spent there, which is unacceptable for a place where you expect to rest during your holidays.

Good enough hostel to crash a couple of nights. Clean and in a very central location. Don’t recommend if you checking very late, as you have to make your own bed. The shower sprays all over, so be careful. The rooms have lockers for 1€ (it returns the coin each time), a sink with an electric socket and mirror and individual lights on each bed. You can also put things on top of it like glasses, your water bottle or your locker key. The breakfast is quite average, but good with the local spread of the Speculoo biscuits. This hotel is also environmentally friendly with motion detection lights, green cleaning product, etc… (see image). Staff was friendly for the most part.

Staff and breakfast were great. All other horrible: lift didn’t work (I had a heavy luggage) Hot water - there was some damage, so no hot water during my stay. In the room, in the shower the light switched on and off, and then on, and off and so on for the whole night. In general shower uncomfortable to use. No even kitchen/kettle/anything to even make some tea in the evening. In case living with some strangers - unbelievable uncomfortable, small tones and no privacy at all.

Very cool, safe and clean place. In the dormitory, you just have to keep an eye on your stuff depending on who is with you. If they seem to pay attention to it and ask you about your job, seems they are evaluating your goods. The price is reasonable and the personal is lovely if you are too. Break first is simple but good. Really well situated. I don't understand the negative comments, maybe from older times.

Got a private room for 2 people which was satisfactory. With an en-suite shower (but no toilet), decent bunk beds and relatively comfy pillows, the room did the job for its price. No towels were included in the price and we had to make our own beds with the provided linen. A EUR 20 deposit is required in order to receive a key card to access the building after 1am. A surprising feature. Breakfast was standard and adequate. Boiled eggs, toast, meat, bread, juices, cereal and a good coffee machine. However, the bar at the hostel had zero atmosphere, not helped by the two children of the bar staff (~9 years old) treating the bar like a play area at 9pm at night. A hostel bar should not be as dead as this one on a Saturday night.

I got a shared room of 4 and it had good space. The rooms and hostel are pretty clean. They give you your covers for the bed in the reception. Towels have a fee. The bathroom inside the room was big, but there is no place to put shower products inside the shower. Also the light turns on if you enter the shower but it has a reduce time (like 2 min) and it turns off while showering. Toilets are outside the room, which might be an inconvenient. Even though are always very clean. Breakfast consists of cereal, boiled eggs and packaged sweet bread. 2 blocks away there is supermarket so you can buy more food if needed. Location is great, 5 minute walking to the city center.

Nice, clean, fresh, tidy and very close to the city centre. Helpful staff and good breakfast! One of the best hostels in Brussels.

Wonderful hostel in a strategic position, very closed to the city center. Everything was clean, very friendly and helpful staff and the buffet breakfast amazing.

  • 3/5 Júlia M. 6 years ago on Google
Good location and breakfast. Nice staff. Good value for money. The sound isolation, however, is terrible. You can hear each and every door in the floor when they close, because of the lock system that closes them automatically and quite loudly. Don't recommend for people who have light sleep and intend to wake up after 7 a.m.

The hostel is very well located, close to the city center, and central train station. Clean, convenient. Expensive as for a hostel, but everything is expensive in Belgium. It was very noisy when I was staying, because of a lot of teenagers that were staying at the same time, so it was hard to sleep.

  • 4/5 Izel S. 1 year ago on Google
Reasonable price. Clean hostel room with a locker. Short walk from the train station. However, for bedding- they only provided 2 sheets but no duvet cover.

  • 4/5 Martin L. 1 year ago on Google
it is a hostel, so anything more then just a ground thing is hard to expect. Although there are some things, that could be done better. For example the showers have water pipes, that you have to push it in and it turns out byitself. If the shower would last more then a 30 seconds, would be much more comfortable. There is a vestibule (a space befrore the entrance hall, where the reception is), that stinks of the cigarette smoke and make entrance into the hostel quite unpleasant. Otherwise room was clean, also common toilets and showers. There are in each floor a sofa and a table with electrical plugs,so that you can work on the computer, charge a phone, etc. Breakfast is good, there is also a coffee in unlimited quantaties. Definitely price perfomance!

Fantastic ubication.Very kind personal.Big room and bathroom.Just a few aspects to improve: -the breakfast organization is a little chaotic:bread on boxes somewhere, sometimes no forks or spoons or napkins, plates on other side, maybe labelling food /drinks would be nice for customers(,even for food allergies) -we arrived late for the check in time.the instructions we kindly received by mail were not useful at all.We were walking around the building for several minutes. -the pillows are terrible. This is purely anecdotic but take under consideration whenever you have the chance to change the homewear. Anyway,we'll recomend this hostel to our relatives and friends.Thank you Bruegel Hostel!

We were put into a wrong room, which was very unfortunate and had to change rooms at 2 a.m. Luckily the staff were nice enough to upgrade our room because of the mistake. The whole hostel was very very cold, windows open 24/7, we were freezing for the whole stay. Breakfast was good, would have wished more fruits tho.

This is the nice place among all the places, I visited till now. Only 1 place matches this, which was in india, ooty. Where I visited in September 2018. I will definitely stay here for more days when I will come to Brussels next time.

This hostel is within easy walking distance of Midi and Central railway stations but yet quiet enough to sleep with an open window. Our room for two was on the top floor with a great view across the town. The staff were able to squeeze us into the restaurant with no pre booking in the evening and the buffet breakfast set us up for a great first day in Bruxelles. All in all a well deserved five stars!

  • 5/5 Fiona B. 6 months ago on Google • 2 reviews
Great hostel with amazing decoration of all the proverbs painted by Bruegel on the walls. Really nice touch. In a quiet but central area, close to vintage shops and very well priced restaurants and cafes. It's next to a beautiful church too. The staff were friendly and efficient and the breakfast was amazing! The best place I stayed in during my Belgium stay! Great value for money.

I really loved my stay. The beds are perfect, rooms are clean, 24h service, breakfast included and great located. Due to my very late arrival I was afraid that checking in after 11pm would be a problem, but instead, they were very helpful, welcoming and easy to reach by phone Hostel Bruegel is one of the better ones I've stayed in so far, 100% recommended!

  • 4/5 Sue A. 7 months ago on Google • 1 review
Nice spacious dorm. Lockers seemed to need a euro coin every time you opened them so not very practical. Close to nice local area and not too far from centre and train station. Main complaint was complete lack of even a kettle to make tea (when all the local cafes had just closed), let alone cooking facilities. For those travelling on a budget, this is a real disadvantage.

The accommodation is simple but clean. It is fully wheelchair accessible except for the entrance where there is a step that could not be managed without someone else's help. It was only on departure that a wooden ramp appeared.
