This place was, for several years, a Leuven mainstay for delicious coffee and affordable yet tasty bagels on weekends and weekday afternoons. Unbeatable back then. It seems that things are changing, unfortunately. While the coffee shop retains its cozy atmosphere and kind service, food is no longer served (besides pastries). The shop is now closed on Sunday mornings as well (formerly the busiest time), to make way for €30 yoga and coffee classes. It’s with great regret that I notice this decision to move up the market away from students, but I hope it works out for the Swartehond team.

Ein nettes Café, ein bisschen abseits des Stadtkerns, mit Selbstbedienung. Es gibt Terassenplätze auf einem ruhigen Platz. Cappuccino und Karottenkuchen waren gut.

It's a pricey (a slice of cake for 6€) coffeeshop but the atmosphere and the coffee is quite nice. Good place to read a book or work with laptop.

When i came here for a coffee, i enjoyed my time here. But when we came for lunch and ate the bagels, the result was disappointing: the bagels where dry (two other tables already returned them). The experience was quite dissapointed since, certainly since I expected better and I do believe they can do better. I hope they will improve it, as the coffee and pastries seemed good and only toasting the bagels would already make a significant improvement. And please make sure your toilet has tissues or something to dry your hands with. De dispenser was empty and the bin had near to nothing. This means that it wasn't refilled and (near) empty at the start of the day. (I edited the review as the wording was more harsh then it should be. That said: minor issues always can occur and I do hope the'll improve on it. Both the preparation of the bagels as how the staff remedies the situation when two tables return their bagels)

I used to come here a lot. But I see the prices in compare to other popular places are so expensive. I paid 6 for cappuccino today, which is 4.5 everywhere else for the same size. I think this is my last time coming here. 2 star for the nice environment which made me come here.

Lovely cafe in a calm and family-friendly area of Leuven. I love cafè like this one where 1) the beverages are well done 2) it is cozy, well-decorated meaning it has both character and comfort. We rested in their lovely living room situation waiting until closing time. The staff was very friendly.

Lovely place, delicious coffees and bagels - cakes too sweet for my liking. A bit pricey but nice atmosphere, good for working as well, nice games available and brilliant literature for kids. Staff very helpful and friendly.

I don't understand why this is top rated. We ordered a 'long' black and a chocolate milk with cheesecake. The cheesecake was good but the long black looked and tasted like motor oil. It was also served in a glass that was not suitable and too hot to hold. See attachment. The chocolate milk was also very unconcentrated. And to top it off, we paid more than 13 euro for this. Not recommended

Carrot cake was great but terribly slow staff - we waited for over 25 minutes for just two coffees and one piece of cake.

Tranquil ambiance, perfect place to spend hours with friends or reading. I rate it 5/5. Moreover, the coffee is exceptionally delicious.

A cozy, student-friendly place with an artsy ambience. Unfortunately the coffee is subpar and the peanut butter cake is too sweet and dense. Would not recommend other than social gatherings.

Very comfy en cozy spot for a relaxing break accompanied by some good coffee. The perfect spot to go when in need of some morale boosting caffeinated drink or to eat. I especially value the 'laptop' corner that is included in the building.

I really love the carrot cake from your shop and I buy many times a week. I want to tell you that I bought the one today and the tasty was not as good as before ones. Also, the size was smaller than before. I fell sad.

The reason why my review is so low is because I used to love this place and come here with my friends all the time, we used to have nice bagels and empanadas. I recently went back there and found out they no longer do bagels and empanadas which makes this place just overpriced. The coffee is good, but it is sad to see it is becoming less student-friendly and pricey. 3 stars for the memories.

Although it is called black dog, its timetable is always a bit of a schrodinger's cat . Other than this, and the fact it punishes our sweet tooth by selling pretty pricey (absolutely delicious) options, while no savory options are provided, it is one of the best places to hang out in Leuven, for any taste, with a variety of events organized and a cosy outside terrace.

We had to leave because of too long waiting time. It you time to loose, you can go there because 20 minutes for 2 iced coffees that toi much. The waitress was clearly high.

Best place to drink coffee in Leuven. Really cozy and with tables in a nice square. They also serve fredo espresso a greek cold alteration of espresso. The bagels are also tasty

Swartehond has fantastic (!!) Staff: they know they're coffees, they have a wide variety of teas, the baked treats are super delicious, and the bagels are (mostly) simple but they touch the spot. The location is also great, it's not in the bustling centre but easily reachable, so you can definitely relax and chat easily while not having a hundred people walk by you a minute. Wonderful place!

Hustle bustle n tiny coffee shop filled with warm menu n magazines! Service takes some time but if you are passing time in Sunday - this is the place around corner.

Cool place in a calm street for taking some coffee. I ordered a capuchino and it tasted great. They have a lot of cakes, cookies and also some fancy drinks like chai latte.

My go-to place for a mocha and some peace and quiet. Tables are generously placed to be covid safe, both inside and outside. I really appreciate that.
