I visited a lot of museums of trains in the UK but it was my first time abroad. This one was very good and one of my favorite. They decorated the place very well and it’s quite immersive. The lights were very low which made the ambiance special. I liked the fact that you can go inside some of the trains and that they added some decors to make it more realistic. It was very nice! When we visited there was also some parts about climate changes and they educate people about how we can improve our impact. It was very interesting and useful! Definitely a museum you have to see even though it’s a bit away from the centre of Brussels. We arrived by car so this wasn’t an issue as there was a parking next door.

It was overall a great experience. Definitely a recommended visit. The layout and explanations of the displays are well thought out. It could do with a little more 'hands on' activities for the younger kids (3 - 6 years), although that's only to slow them down so Dad can actually see something 😉.

👌🚂🚅🚄 Train World Museum in Brussels is an incredible destination for anyone interested in the history of railways and transportation. The museum is truly a remarkable place that offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the world of trains, from their humble beginnings to the modern-day marvels of engineering. One of the things that I particularly love about Train World Museum is the way it showcases the history of Belgium's railway system. The exhibits are well-curated and presented in an engaging way, making it easy for visitors to follow the timeline of development from the early steam engines to the sleek electric trains of today. In addition to the exhibits, the museum also boasts an impressive collection of train cars and engines that visitors can explore up close. It's a unique opportunity to see these machines in person and appreciate the craftsmanship and technology that went into building them. The staff at Train World Museum are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their subject matter. They are always available to answer questions and provide additional information about the exhibits. Overall, Train World Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone with an interest in trains and transportation. The exhibits are informative, the collection is impressive, and the staff is welcoming and informative. I highly recommend a visit to Train World Museum in Brussels!

A joyous experience. Very meticulously put together, and one can see a lot of hard work has gone into this museum. The scale of the locomotives is mind-boggling. It was great to be able to climb aboard some of these and get a first-hand feel of the mechanicals. Please note that though the museum itself closes at 1700 hrs, hall 2 closes at 1615 hrs, and hall 3 at 1625 hrs. Suggestions for improvement:- 1. Many of the displays lack English captions. This includes the Animalia exhibition, but I realised one can download English captions for that. 2. The numbered identifiers (exhibit 1, 2, etc.) seemed to be missing for some exhibits, which made it difficult to correlate with their respective captions. 3. Scanning my ticket at the turnstile before hall 2 did not work. Ultimately, I had to ask for assistance. 4. There is an app that can be downloaded for an audio tour, which is very useful. It would be nice if earplugs were also available in the museum for this.

Fantastic Experience suitable for all ages, multiple exhibits to look at, however during my visit they had the orient express special. It was brilliant to see the coaches, seated and dining/bar, so opulent and historic, if only i could afford to take a journey next! Other exhibits include, steam, war, holocaust and working/industry, modern locomotives. Has a lovely gift shop and unique rail simulator for you to try. Tickets as of March 2022 are €14 adult and €11 euro for disabled, various other discount options available.

Loved it! Great scenography. Great big locomotives you can actually enter and look around in. Great interactive pieces that move and explain the workings of various trains. Lots of smaller pieces of railroad history (clocks, signs, benches, etc.) one of the best museums in Belgium. Great for kids and adults alike.

One of the most worthwhile visits and collections in Brussels. Although not situated in Brussels City, Train world is an impressive collection of everything trains and anything in between. The rooms where designed to immerse visitors to the experience and everything seem to have its place and a story behind it. Three hours had gone by so fast whilst roaming each room and admiring the beautiful machine called Trains and taking gorgeous pictures. I highly recommend taking the time out to visit Train World and enjoying what it has to offer. It is a very good value for money.

There is an always changing exhibition and we went to the Animalia on a weekday after Christmas. It was very informative, interactive created and bigger than expected. Using an app to have the comments and sound guide is a great addition to learn the most. The exhibition was not too convincing to us as there was not too much of historical relation of the animals with the trains, but having seen previous exhibition titles I am sure Train World will surprise us with more in the future. We will return to continue learn more about the train. Another recommendation, you can park there or reach Train World by train, with the ticket prepaid you will get discounted train tickets. 😊

Train world museum is located next to scharbeek Gare train/bus stop..5 mins walk from Dockx Mall. Not much crowded during weekday. Many exhibits and train models in the museum along with animal exhibits as well just to attract small kids. It's medium size museum. There is a simulator for kids to operate train (when we went one of the simulator is not working). You can easily spend 2-3 hours inside the museum with kids. Cafetaria is in the enterance probably they should have cafeteria at the end or middle of museum. Better take some snacks with you as kids will be exhausted towards the end... Also it will be good if they have more activities for small kids.

One of the best museums in Brussels, especially with children. You will see and enter inside full-scale trains and wagons, learn about the history of the railway and have tons of interactive experiences, including a train driver simulator. Highly recommended.

This is an amazing modern museum, we came to see Animalia exhibition, but the modern approach of the train world caught us completely. If you want to read the panels and watch movies, then 3 hours seem to be reasonable.

Great place. Unusual, mysterious, exciting, reflecting realism. Science and history in one place and the setting of sound and visual effects at the highest level. Perfect for a trip and an escape from the city hustle and bustle. For big and small everyone will find something for themselves. I give it 5 stars because it deserves it.

I had a very fantastic time during my visit. I booked in advance (for thé moment only way to book tickets because of the Corona..) the museum was calm, because you need to book a timeslot and you need a Corona certification to get in. Once you are in, you Will be amazed by all the different trains, locs, and more train related stuff. I enjoyed my visit and Will certainly come back! + Very Fun, educational and a lot to see + Accesible by wheelchairs, every floor has a lift + Don't forget your camera! + Souvenirshop is open and has a lot of fun stuff + Very easy to reach, just take the train to Schaarbeek station and follow the signs. The museum Building is in the station self ... - some trains are closed because of Corona :( - time Flies away, i wish there was more to see

History and evolution of trains are presented here. You also can visit the actual railway station located near this train world that is still carrying the look of the old station.

Nice rail museum with a large amount of things to see. A little bit tricky to get to on the metro, so suggest using the overground rail services instead. We were there for 2hrs but you could easily spend 3-4hrs if you read most of the information in the museum.

Very nice museum, for young and old. A must see for every train enthusiast. The audiguide, which is available via free app, is very well made and not too long. So bring your own headphones. You should plan 2 hours for your visit. Accessibility is also very good.

I stopped by here just because a friend of mine is big on trains, I had no intention of doing anything more than spending 15 minutes and getting a souvenir for my buddy. I was here for two hours. Absolutely awesome, very fascinating and loaded with interactive displays, actual train cars and engines. An immersive train simulator and a pretty good restaurant. Highly recommended for anyone with even a minor interest in trains!

This museum amazed me. I really wanted to see it, but it was quite far from my hotel. I do not regret the kilometers traveled and the time spent there. The interactive exhibition is great. It shows technological and social aspects of railway development. The story is presented in a nice and pleasant way, but very substantive!

A really good Museum with easy access from the rail network. Loads of interesting exhibits that show the progression and development of the network over time. Especially liked being able to access different carriages and train cabs. Loved the interactive elements, eg raising a pantograph, and the driver simulator. All the staff we spoke to were super friendly too! The biggest let down however is the “Animalia” project/exhibit that’s being showcased at the moment. It’s really taken over the museum, with animal statues placed on top of trains, silly animal sounds throughout and a lack of actual climate change facts or information. It’s a let down as you come to see trains and instead find them covered in animals! That said, I still recommend a visit (but maybe wait for Animalia to end), and the prices are very fair too.

A real fascinating museum which introduced you to the world of trains in general with a huge focus on the history and development of trains in Belgium and Europe. My personal highlights were the original locomotive which were developed by belgium engineers and the love to the details of everything that happens around a typical trainride.

  • 5/5 Güngör Doğan A. 2 years ago on Google
Not only train the railway industry development from the beginning. You can find old cranes, steam engines, locomotives, passenger and cargo trains. Also it is not only the train. You can also find old luggages, old baby strolleys etc. I highly recommend to try train simulator. It is funny to use. You can also download application from store to get English guidance. A detailed visit may take around 3 hours.

Even when you're not a train fanatic, this is a really great exhibition. You can walk through old train carriages, beautifully restored. Parking is to the left of the trainstation.

The exhibit was beautiful. It could be organized a bit better, e.g. 1) the scanning of the passes should be done by one person and the selling of tickets by another, 2) the audio numbers are not always very visible, 3) there's no consistency in the languages of the written explanation, like some are only in FR and NL, but not in EN and DE, and others are in all 4 languages.

A lot to see and to experience for that amount. A bit strange, that not much of train role in WWII, and almost none for WWI was covered. And the room with the train station inventory was dusty - my allergy started to show up. A suggestion: to put more light on the modern trains and current innovations.

  • 4/5 Xander 1 year ago on Google
Love the layout of where they put the trains. The information the write about the trains is always clear and definitely a museum where u wouldn't get bored. I definitely recommend having a look here. But make sure to buy you're tickets in advance to be sure that u can enter without any problems. It's also way easier if you buy them ahead.

Great museum - I don't know why it's not on more top X lists of things to do in Bruxelles! They have an app as audio guide which only works for Android - but hey, it works! Curious why they download the guide on the go... But since it's not going to stay very long installed, I wouldn't think too much about it. The only downside was the messy tour - numbers for the audio guide missing or hard to see, difficult to follow order (jumps from like 50 all the way to 70). Other than that, well thought museum & great expo! Highly recommend.

A very well layed-out museum. A lot of interactive features for the kids and some very well presented exhibits including Royal train carriages. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is some more recent historical vehicles (say from the 1960s onward). Still however, well worth a visit!

  • 5/5 Cristi 1 year ago on Google
Very cool to transform a train station into such a museum. The Brussels card included this attraction, but for child we had to pay 11 euros, which is a lot, to be honest. First building had some models, some movies and some objects used in the train stations. The second building makes a strong impression with the huge locomotives, the Royal family info and the smaller objects plus info on railways. The atmosphere created is indeed strongly connected to trains. The royal wagons are really beautiful. They have wagons climbed up on some metallic frames.

  • 5/5 Bruno Van de V. 1 year ago on Google
An impressive museum, containing stunning models but also a vast amount of perfectly well-kept real locomotives and coaches. The current temporary exhibition showcases the royal trains used by our former kings. We left the place with a great feeling of nostalgia - perhaps even wishing that this form of long-distance overnight travel would experience a revival?

  • 5/5 Siegfried B. 1 year ago on Google
A fun museum near Brussels. The Train World museum offers a very nice overview of the history of trains in Belgium, one of the earliest countries to develop an extensive network of train lines. This history is explained in English, French, Dutch and German by many impressive exhibit pieces. There is museum in the old train station of Schaarbeek, continued in several large halls with many actual train engines and wagons. At the time of our visit, there was a nice exhibition on the royal train wagons and on the links with the royal family. However, as this includes many connections with Leopold II and his involvements abroad, his past should also merit at least some explanations.

  • 5/5 Gwendolyn A. 1 year ago on Google
I was expecting this to be a quick little tour with just a few train models to explore. I’ve never been so thrilled to be proven wrong. The tour starts simply enough, after introducing a somewhat complicated audio tour app. The app is not 5 stars, but it gets the job done. The tour continues outside where a few pieces can be seen before continuing into a second building. At the second building, I was thrilled to find that the rooms just keep going. Every time I thought the exhibit was surely over, it continued on to another room. And they were still interesting! I admit that my attention wandered a bit towards the end, but that’s more me than the tour. Once you figure out the app, it’s really fun and so full of information and forgotten history. Definitely worth the 15€. The ONLY recommendation I would make is regarding the order of the audio tours. The numbers can be a bit difficult to see at times, so you need to look closely and carefully to find them all. However, you can skip around and still have a great time!

Impressive museum dedicated to train history in Belgium. Well designed and accessible. Close by car parking is a plus. Price wise was OK as well. We spent around 2 hours there.

  • 5/5 Graham S. 10 months ago on Google
This is a terrific museum. You enter through a lovingly restored station . The majority of the collection is stored in a large, modern building whose plain exterior encloses a sequence of large halls displaying the collection in chronological order. The trains are beautifully displayed. There are many pieces of imaginative 'set dressing' which bring the various eras to life. This museum is one of the best I have ever visited. The signage is in several languages and the audio app is also excellent. The museum is also very clean. You would be an absolute curmudgeon if you failed to be fascinated by a day spent here. It is all under cover so the weather is not a factor and the tram and bus stops practically outside the front door.

Must see museum in Brussels. The Belgium trains history is presented in very interesting way. It is interesting not only for small kids but also teenagers. Four main exhibitions plus à few additional smaller one.

  • 5/5 Oskari R. 10 months ago on Google
We were there a bit late, and had just one hour left to go through the exhibition. That was just enough with three year old kid. Without the kid, I would have used 2-3 hours to experience everything a bit better. We got amazing customer service, we got all the necessary warnings about the amount of things to see in comparison to the little amount of time we had left before closing time, but we were still let in. One thing to note, the co-exhibition among trains, the Animalia exhibition, had a bit too scary sounds and lights were dimmend. This caused our three year old to be slightly scared/excited in some parts of the show. This is just neutral detail, good to know if you are planning to visit the location with small kids. Thanks for all the personnel of Train World!

Went here for our little boys 2nd birthday. He absolutely loved it. So much of the museum is interactive with the chance to sit in and even play drive some of the trains. The cafe is lacking and it's location is a bit of a pain to get to but we found getting the tram to socks and crossing under the train station the best route. Highly recommended for families.

The first railroad track in continental Europe was built in Belgium. Here, you can see the historical train engines and wagons, steam, diesel and electric, how tracks are laid, travel adverts through the ages etc. It was very impressive to stand next to Engine 10, it is huge. The museum is very beautiful, making full use of its space, including in the heights.

Clear storyline, beautiful pieces for young and old, friendly staff. Included in your museum pass. Must do! Just a pity that it is in Schaerbeek and therefore just a tram / train at weekend Brussels. (Original) Voor mij bij één van de mooiste musea van België qua beleving en hedendaagse technieken om iets te presenteren. Duidelijke verhaallijn, mooie stukken voor jong en oud, vriendelijk personeel. Inbegrepen in je museumpas. Must do! Enkel jammer dat het in Schaarbeek is en dus even tram/trein is bij weekendje Brussel.

(Translated by Google) Super fun museum. Something for everyone, big and small. We went there with a toddler of 2.5. He was completely impressed. It is a pity that due to the measures you cannot get on all trains to view them from the inside. (Original) Superleuk museum. Voor elk wat wils, groot en klein. Wij zijn er met een kleuter naartoe gegaan van 2,5. Hij was helemaal onder de indruk. Jammer dat je door de maatregelen niet op alle treinen kan om ze van binnenin te bezichtigen.
