A very interesting hotel with lots of history. The location is a little hot outside, but this makes a parking lot available. Unfortunately the walls seem to be very thin, as we could hear always what the rooms next to us were doing.

The people of the hotel were really lovely. Very helpful, especially the man. The taxi driver called Maurice was exceptionally nice and so helpful. He was well got at the hotel. Hotel was a former prison and it's history fascinated me. Breakfast was plentiful. Had a lovely stay .

Nice clean hotel. Only thing missed was tea making facilities in the room. We were there for a competition so only stayed 2 nights.

Unique place! The two-feet thick walls of this converted ex-gaol give you a sense of security and spark uncanny parallels with Grand Hotel Budpest. Heists, empires, and cobbled streets of the past all become alive... LoL. The hotel is clean, the staff is super-friendly, and they serve a good breakfast. 6 min from the railway station. Had a huge 10 feet high poster of a sheep in my room... almost Haruki Murakami... I'm definitely staying there again.

Booked with this hotel for an event. Unfortunately, due to airline overbooking flight, I was not able to attend. The review is based on the service, response time and kindness from the hotel which I found to be excellent

Lovely place, staff helpful, welcoming and friendly. Breakfast included but coffee charges through out day Would be useful to offer a few snacks in the evening perhaps. Local to shops, train station to Brussels about 10 min walk Would stay again.

The staff was really friendly. There is a parking area right in front of the hotel where it is free to park from 7 pm till 9 am. The room was clean, great to stay there for a couple nights. Awesome breakfast in the morning in a beautiful lounge. Once you get out of your room to the hallway - the light need some time to get switch on so that the hallway is really dark for a sec 😅. All in all a really nice place to stay. Will come back! 😊

Nice room but not well maintained and dangerous, the hairdryer being open at the back! (see picture). The heating didn’t work and bacteria brown and yellow mold in the bathrooms (picture) The 3 stars are for the friendly staff and good designed rooms.

I stayed here for 2 nights last week after having surgery at the local hospital and I loved it. I loved the black scary hallways and creepy chair as you get off elevator. I didn't gave the breakfasts but my friend did and she loved it. The giffee was especially good. She couldn't get enough of it. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

I was quite disappointed. I understand the hotel is trying to look like a prison, which it was and don't get me wrong it is a good idea, but it is still a hotel where people want to sleep and get around. It is extremely difficult getting around. Took me a long time to figure out where everything was. Hallways painted black don't make it easy at all. AC in my room was very loud, could not open the window because of the highway, so I ended up not sleeping well for two days because the small room gets hot fast. Very friendly staff, breakfest decent enough.

Very clean and cozy hotel. The rooms are modern, white, and clean with nice bathroom fixtures. There's plenty of space and comfortable beds. The hotel is built into the historical work house or prison built by Maria Theresa as an improvement in prison reform, and the hotel has lots of homage to it's history. Breakfast is a good selection of meat, cheese, bread, and yogurt. It's a very nice place to stay, with nice, friendly staff.

As usual this hotel did not disappoint… it’s clean and convenient and the staff are a credit their employers. I would have one complaint however about the taxi service offered to clients to the airport( those travelling after surgery) it is extortionate… 35e …. For what should be a 20-25e fare!! In fairness I didn’t check the price because it was promoted by the hotel…. But buyer beware!

Have stayed in Belgium multiple times and had high hopes for this hotel. Unfortunately, disappointed. Great potential but feels like too much effort has been made trying to look chic and neglects customer experience. For this price, no tea/coffee/refreshments in room is very poor. Having a note that says “enjoy free water” almost feels like a joke. Upon arrival had to pay a “city tax” (why not include this during booking procedure?!). Room decor is going for edgy ex-prison but feels unfinished. Car park must be paid from 9am. Hallways weirdly dark. Shame, was excited to stay here.

We spent one night here in the beginning of March. The heating, which was basically an aircondition, was not working and it was ice-raining outside. As we were travelling for almost 24 hours at the time of check-in, we thought that it might start working at some point and asked for a second duvet with a duvet cover. What we got was a duvet and a sheet, which was a bit disappointing. In the night, when we woke up due to the cold, we called the reception, asking for help to adjust the "heating". The receptionist came after 15 minutes and said it would be working, but it wasn't. When we addressed the issue while checking out, the lady on the front desk asked us why we didn't change rooms, as if it was the guests' responsibility to check if the heating is working. Apart from that big minus, the architecture is quite interesting, the rooms are functional and clean, the breakfast is good. Also, another plus is that we were able to check out one hour later without being charged for it. I would have been happy to give at least four stars if the heating had been working.

Hotel could be difficult in the summer. The room had no AC at all, not even a fan. However on the booking website, they show AC in rooms. I had to ask them for a fan which they first said are all in use/ none left because they are fully booked and only some rooms have AC. Finally, they did provide a fan which was so dirty/ dusty that entire bed got dirty with dust when the fan switched on. The staff was trying to be helpful but were restricted by the fact that there are ACs in only a few rooms and only a few fans available. Also, found two hair under the blanket, on the bedsheets. Did not bother the staff again and just left early next morning. Hotel was located in a quiet location about 15 minutes from the airport.

I have enjoyed my time in the Lodge Vilvoode. There should a sign posted from the Bus stop or from the Pizza place. Not easy to locate without a phone.

Friendly and helpful staff and the room was well appointed with everything in good condition. Unfortunately there was a very strong smell from the drains. Hopefully this is sorted out soon

Comfortable stay at the Lodge and very good breakfast with a large variety. We benefit from free parking for the weekend. It is convenient located to visit Brussels by train. Train station is 10 min walk from the Lodge and the ride takes 13-15 minutes. We have payed €6.20 for return day ticket for 2 adults to Brussels.

Poor service overall. Hotel clearly not used to being close to fully booked. We were staying here as we were going to the festival nearby so it was busy. Breakfast was until 10:30 but we had to beg for food from 10 onwards as they had ran out of most things and “usually stop replacing food from 10”. In that case specify breakfast is until 10 only. We left our room at 1pm and the room was not cleaned that day. It wasn’t very clean when we first got in anyway. Rooms are bare with very thin and light mattress with little support. Last, personnel knocked at our door at 12 sharp on last day saying check out was at 11 and it was already 12:30 and cleaning staff had to clean the rooms. Not sure why the rush but personnel was still cringing when we checked out at 12:15. Overall quality of accommodation is average with sub-standard service that really didn’t make us feel welcome.

My family (wife, 8 months old daughter, me) had a stay for 3 nights. The hotel was not fully booked. In contrast to my usual travels we were just looking for a cheap hotel incl. breakfast. However, my expectations were exceeded. I can fully recommend this ***-hotel. Why is that? 1. The personnel is absolutely convincing. The details matter. Starting with a perfect reception service, attentive breakfast service (particularly in dealing with my daughter) and quick-witted barkeepers. I always felt welcome familiarly. This contrasts with the professional service of high-class hotels and I like it very much. The service orientation of Rania is outstandingly good! 2. The rooms were interestingly designed (old prison), quite big, clean and equipped with comfortable beds (also for babies). The walls are light-hearted, but there were still no disturbances at all. The rooms were well cleaned every day. 3. There are play facilities for children (sports fields and water games) in direct vicinity of the hotel. My little daughter was completely exhausted and slept without any issues during every night. 4. In the car park, I could not only park my e-car cheaply, but even charge it directly in front of the hotel. 5. The breakfast offers a balanced range of bread, rolls, cold cuts, fruits and fruit salads, muesli, yoghurt and hot egg dishes. I didn't find it overwhelming, but good. However, I have to admit that as a German my expectations of a perfect breakfast are really very high. With my experience in the Brussels area, I think that the cost-benefit-ratio is very good. By replacing the coffee cup set, an even higher-quality impression could quickly be conveyed here.

Great service. Awesome building and history. A/C wasn't available in our room, so they gave us an upgraded room without hesitation. 10 minutes from train station and 15 minute ride in to Brussels Central! We will use this place again on our next trip to Brussels.

Beds aren’t comfy. Had to be moved to another room as the one booked wasn’t ready, staff is polite and helpful. Rooms are bit creepy and u can easily hear next room. Mine had a guy coughing all night my luck. But for the high prices I should’ve went to different hotel. Definitely not using again

The lodge is an old converted prison from long ago that's been modernised into a very nice place with lots of history.

Before covid I used to stay there and was very good, this time my experience was different, the room looked quite old and needing maintenance, poor cleaning.

Is a fine hotel with a modern vibe. Good price/benefit ratio and pleasing facilities. Is a good hotel, better than others hotels in similar category, specially for business and short stay
