The food was quite good, but extremely expensive for the serving size. In the dishes that I ordered, there were away too many fries and a very small amount of meat. For desert, I had the Dame Blanche, which was a bit bland but still good. Even though I went with two other people, we were still cramped on a table meant for four people.

Very wonderful service, friendly staff. Terrific food and beverage, beers a plenty under the terrace filled with green and red umbrellas. The atmosphere is terrific and probably the only decent eatery I'm all of Brussels. Tap water is a no no, forbidden as standard across Belgium. However these guy have much to choose from, even vegan friendly!

Step into the ambience of a well managed and friendly restaurant off the heart of the Grand Place. Take time to slow down and enjoy the fireplace, and vibrant U.S. western meets Brussels vibe. The team here was wonderful. While you pause remember to glance out the window and take it all in. The onion soup is fabulous.

Great location right at the Grand Place square... Lovely place, in a great location and with generous outdoor seating. The ambiance was like you stepping into medieval times. They have a nice open fireplace and fantastic scenery. We got the table after some time. Though we wanted to sit outside, but it was raining. We ordered Jupiler beer ( 330 & 550 ML), Hoegaarden Rosee, Chimay Blanche, Gauffre Roy, Portion De Frites and I don’t know the name of the rest. In simple English, we ordered 2 beer, some fish with onion rings, Ice cream over Waffle, Famous Belgium fries. Fries were okay, not that famous taste: P I liked my Jupiler beer. Taste-wise, it was not that bad. Moreover, we enjoyed our time together. Oh, I almost forgot, I had to mention the service. Though I did not catch the waiter's name but he was not good at what he was doing. I don’t care if you have to see all the tables yourself, but don’t talk rudely. I was meeting with my friends after a very long time. 2 of them came from Amsterdam and rest came from another part of Belgium and we all met here. All I was asking the waiter to take a snap and I did ask 3 times. All I got was a rude answer, “can’t you see I am buys OR I will come to you when I will finish". Not cool, and that too when he added 4 euro tip himself at the end of the bill. Tip for Men - checkout there men's bathroom. It’s hilarious.

We came here a couple of times and really enjoyed ourselves both times. We only stopped in for drinks but found them to be really enjoyable. They have a wide selection of beers to choose from, the leffe tasting flight is a nice one to try. They have a good selection of wines to choose from, my partner said she really enjoyed the picpoul. The prices are a little higher than elsewhere but given the location on the grand place, it's to be e expected. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, and made a fuss of our girls which they loved! The girls enjoyed making up their hot chocolates with the little chocolate drops and hot milk. The building has a nice feel to the inside and was busy so had a nice atmosphere inside. It was nice and warm with the big fire in the middle of the room too. It's worth noting that the toilets are upstairs on the second floor. Would recommend coming here for a few drinks and to have a laugh with the staff!

My husband and I were there once and food was perfect, so next time we went there again and this time with our friends. We tried 4 cheese pasta, ham pasta, burger and spaghetti. All of them were delicious 🤤. Also price is affordable.

(Translated by Google) This is a very pleasant little cafe! The atmosphere is warm and the decor seems to come from another era. The hearth worthy of a forge and the clearly visible wooden beams transport us back to the time of our ancestors, indeed it was the house of the bakers' corporation. You can taste waffles (special note for the waffle of the King of Spain, a delight!). Pleasant and cheerful staff who will add positive to your consumption. Small thought of the naturalized horse which sits at the foot of an imposing solid wood staircase. So enjoy your meal!

Good place to stop if you are in the main square, although it is expensive ... the location explains it by itself. The food is very simple, but do what the locals do, go in and say that you will only drink beer, after that just enjoy the atmosphere, in general the waiters are very attentive and they will always recommend something to you. Go for the beer sampler.

Great spot to view the square and people watch while sitting in the shade with a beverage. Not a huge selection of beer on tap but they have the favourites (aka popular ones like Leffe and Hoegaarden). The staff speak English and are very helpful and friendly - ask them for recommendations.

The place is central you cannot miss it. The menu I tasted it was fixed but everything was delicious especially the dessert. Many plus and bonus cause it had a safe box and you could charge your mobile without worrying that it would be stolen

Good food. Bad customer service ,at least my own experience. If I'm in a foreign country and order something that I don't know exactly what it is. When you bring it out, I'm gonna say "okay this is how they serve it" . Long story short, they had brought out something different than I ordered. But how would I know? It still had chicken which is what I wanted. The server went on to rudely say, this is Brussels , you'll never get a dish like this for under 15 euro (what I originally ordered. Was 12) blaming us for not saying anything before we got the bill. He took care of it. Discounted to the amount it was supposed to. But very rude.

Lovely atmosphere, the staff greeting you on arrival were fantastic, someone brought a horse in here but in all fairness it was well behaved and didn’t cause any bother whatsoever, we didn’t eat as we were sampling the splendid array off beers, which I have to say were top notch. The only downside was the gents toilet door was wedged open which meant you’re manhood was on display to the entire restaurant, fortunately I have plenty in that department so I wasn’t bothered whatsoever. 8.5 out of ten. Thoroughly recommend

Nestled in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Grand-Place, "Le Roy d'Espagne" is a beautiful tapestry of history and culture. The building's roots trace back to the 17th century, serving as the original home for the Bakers' Guild of Brussels. The ornate Baroque architecture, complete with golden details and statues, speaks volumes of its historical significance. As you enter, the statue of Charles II, in whose honor the place was named "The King of Spain", greets you. The interiors beautifully echo its rich past, with decor and designs reminiscent of Brussels' bygone era. Not to mention, its terrace offers one of the most enchanting views of the Grand-Place, a treat especially on a pleasant day. As for the culinary experience, while the regular fare like burgers and pastas were just passable, the renowned Moules-frites stood out and lived up to its reputation. A delectable dive into Belgian tradition. For those looking to immerse themselves in the authentic Brussels atmosphere, Le Roy d'Espagne offers a mixed bag. While its cultural and historical significance is undeniable, the food might leave some wanting more. Worth a visit for the ambiance and the Moules-frites, but manage your expectations on the broader menu.

Lovely place at the heart of Brussels with amazing views. Food is good quality, a bit more expensive but worth it for the views and atmosphere. Service is super friendly so overall, not a tourist trap if that’s what you’d think due to the location.

Our waiter was this older gentleman who gave us great service and was very patient with us despite my essentially non-existent French. We communicated just fine. You sir, are a true gentleman and a legend. Best wishes from New Zealand and thank you for the memories. Merci beaucoup!

We had a great experience. Very friendly staff, even though they were very busy on a Saturday evening. We got a seat by the window with a lovely view of grand place. They offer several vegan dishes: we had the vegan vol au vent (delicious) and the vegan burger (with what appeared to be a homemade patty, yum), both served with excellent fries. The place is spectacularly decorated with all kinds of historical and folkloric objects which make for an interesting experience (+ enormous fireplace on the ground floor, cosy!). Le Roy d'Espagne could, due to its excellent location, be mistaken for a t ourist t rap. However it is not. I am a Brussels local and will gladly be returning for another vegan vol au vent and a tasty kriek beer.

Quite disappointed, even if the view is great, just went for a beer and a fries. The beer was good but the fries were pre cooked and heated again and the cornet was dirty ! It is a shame for such a place and where the reputation of Belgian fries is supposed to be a world reference.. :-(

  • 3/5 Katherine U. 2 years ago on Google
Great service and the interior has a medieval look. I wanted the 1/2 pot of mussels but you could only get it from their pre-set menu with a chosen beer and ice cream. I wouldn't have eaten those so I got the full pot of mussels which was tasty but really just too many mussels stuffed in there.

Very pity that such a bad service, not that clean resto, unfair food quality-price, can have its place in BXL Grande Place. The City of Brussels should impose some decent rules for all restaurants in and around Grande Place. The Owner should do something about it.

Location, location, location. This place has it. Good place to get a drink or meal and enjoy the beautiful view this restaurant offers. Fun and interesting decor inside as well. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The cheese croquettes were quite good. The ham steak and liege meatballs had very good flavor. The fries were just average at best thus I cannot give this place 5 stars, but service was friendly and helpful enough. We tried the beer tasting tray and I'd recommend the Leffe Brown beer. Yes it is a widely manufactured beer, but still. I would definitely return here for another meal.

I waited at the front where is says "please wait to be seated" for almost 5 minutes as 6 different staff members walked passed me. Finally I asked to be seated for one, and I was directed to "under the stairwell." I asked if I could be seated upstairs and was told "it's all reserved but go up there and ask." I did just that and they were hesitant to let me sit because I was by myself, being told "it's normally only for two or more up here." I had to wait a bit too long to be able to order, the food came fast and was delicious. I didn't get any dipping sauce with my fries (maybe this is cultural but everywhere else in Belgium I have been offered ketchup or sauce of some sort) and it took me about 15 min before someone came by that I could wave down and ask for ketchup. It was delicious and a beautiful atmosphere but I'm always sad when restaurants do not treat solo travellers with the same enthusiasm and respect as they do to those in couples/groups.

Great location in the middle of Grand Palace. I really enjoy the service with excellent staff welcoming us with awesome hospitality. Must try the pasta with sea food 🤩

  • 2/5 Adam Y. 11 months ago on Google
The food is horrid everything is not homemade except of the fries which were mediocre. The 4 chesse penne which costed almost 20 euros had no taste of cheese except of the parmesan cheese on it. The pasta was either bought in a supermarket or heled in the fridge for 4 years. The onion soup was ok. The bread we got was also most likely just bought from the supermarket or heled in the fridge for ages. Really not recommending this place its just a tourist trap.

Stopped here for some quick drinks and snacks The place is in the Brussels square and a great seating place to spend the evening. The food and drinks were nice The staff is friendly. Service does take a while, with the number of customers seated, this seemed obvious. Kids had iced tea.

Popped in for drinks on Sunday. It’s located in the centre where if you get the right seating, you’ll have perfect views of the square. Staff are friendly although service does take a while, but it’s fully packed out so it’s understandable. Drinks were great and the food looked good!

You need to pay immediately before drink your beer. Our waiter told us that this was because he doesn't trust his customers... We were not allowed to sit upstairs and enjoy the view of the market. We don't know why because our waiter was Moroccan and we struggled to communicate even in the local languages. The famous horse in the middle of the pub lost half of his hair and he will take away your appetite. A sad place...

Lovely brasserie at the Grande place. Book a table on the second floor and enjoy the view. (Translated by Google) I like it but I think it should refresh without changing the soul of the establishment.

(Translated by Google) A deplorable welcome, I was seated on the terrace and after waiting 20 minutes, I had to move to ask for what I wanted. The waiter chatted for long minutes at neighboring tables (I appreciated the courtesy given to another customer, but that it did not exceed a reasonable time) And to finish with an overpriced beer in the bottle, 4 times the normal price (I can compare the same beer in Paris, in the bottle. It is cheaper. It can be found at 5 euros at the Champs Élysée) It is not normal!!!

We did not eat but had a beer on the terrace, the welcome was very very good, all the room staff are really nice and very attentive!

(Translated by Google) Excellent experience at the King of Spain, we were greeted, served and cashed by the Director, who despite the attendance was incredibly kind. For food I recommend the carbonade, very good and typical with a good beer. The prices are more than correct. Thanks for this great time.

(Translated by Google) Welcome no waiting for the service and the food was good. A bit pricey but I think you pay more for the location than the rest.

I really liked the place, the food and Lucas service. The price was also adequate, order deliveries were quick, the music in the atmosphere was good, as was the temperature. I had a good experience.

I was alone and want to sit next to the window. I did that before the food arrived. I waited and told the staff but received bad treatment and bad service. bad food too. do not recommend that restaurant. He didn't wipe the table and didn't give me the paper everyone gets on the table just because I wanted to change the table.

We were at the right place at the right time after some serious photo taking session, a very cozy ambience and the food is awesome (for both kids and adults) especially when we were totally clueless of what to order. Mika took care of the group orders like a pro (thanks so much) and hint - best spot to snug for a great view and a hot chocolate /beer is at the top level by the window. Go try it
