The staff here are so friendly! I came in for a solo lunch and they were immediately chatty and warm. The gentleman who I think was the manager gave me some great suggestions that paid off very well. The flavour in all of the dishes was really deep and balanced. All of them were super fresh though and beautifully done. I also appreciated that the staff seemed to want to talk about the food and the flavours, how it’s cooked, etc which I really appreciate as a big foodie. I’ll be coming back and recommending it to all and sundry :)

Book in advance to secure your spot to this super sweet venue. Amazing vibe. Fantastic service. Great food made to share amongst fiends. Truly love this place, a repeat diner and have never been disappointed. Situated in groovy hardware lane I promise you will not be disappointed. Don’t forget to checkout their cocktail menu as well. Enjoy xxxxx

Less portions for what we have paid. I feel the portion of food should be lifted. Terrible Mock-tails👎 Better go for a beer. I have tried 1. Thai fried chicken 3.5/5 2. Malaysian Parotta 5/5 3. Fried Barramundi 2.5/5 The service and the staff were friendly and respectful ⭐️ Over all I felt this was not worth money.

Very friendly service and attentive staff with great atmosphere :) however after all the hype and first time trying here, I felt like the food is not living up to its hype.. very disappointed in the flavours and tastes on the menu - at times it is bland, at times it just feels like white-washed bougie expensive food. Probably would not visit again.

Definitely recommend. Love the lunch option to get 5 plates to share for a set price. I really liked the watermelon dish appetizer, the snapper ceviche, and the thai chicken. My friend really liked the tofu. Friendly staff.

We've been fans of RPS since its original was in Liverpool St and been many times to its various locations. Today, we returned for the 5 shared dishes for $59pp deal, which is really good value. The opening act was a twice-cooked Balinese duck leg - crispy and spiced up with the sambal sauce - so delicious. This was followed by the crispy Barramundi fillets, What a genius to pair this with a watermelon and mint salad, accompanied by Nam Jim sauce. 😋 Other great creations included the super tender grilled monkfish in banana leaf, the sweet and scrumptious sticky pork belly, and Something Green to round out the meal. There was no room left for dessert despite the temptations on offer. Service is efficient and friendly with fast turnaround from the kitchen. The dim lighting and a full crowd provided exactly the sort of vibe I like. We consistently have a great experience every time, so no doubt this isn't the last visit.👌

Rice Paper Scissors Here's a modern Asian restaurant that has several vegan options. They serve South-East Asian fusion food with influences of Laotian, Malaysian, Filipino, Thai, Indonesian (and more!) cuisines. The food not only looks pretty and is well plated, it also tastes good. I loved that they use many fresh ingredients, including young coconut, banana leaves and herbs like cilantro, Vietnamese mint and Thai basil. Dishes can be shared or ordered individually. Some dishes are small, others are more filling. And prices go up quickly... If you order rice or roti as a side, 2 or 3 dishes are enough for two people. The restaurant is located in a quieter area near the busy Queen Street. It is rather large, with seating inside and outside. Service was good and staff was literally Angelic!

Amazing experience, can’t really fault it. 📍LOCATION: One of my favorite laneways in Melbourne. Views outside at the skyline are very nice during Sunset. If the weather is good, I suggest dining outside. 📞BOOKINGS: Highly recommended. 📖MENU: Reasonable range of options. Plenty of Vegetarian and Vegan options also. 🙋‍♂️STAFF/SERVICE: Professional Hospitality staff, who are friendly and engaging. Well don’t team. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳FOOD: Great flavors, maybe a little small in size. 🍹DRINKS: Great range of drinks and some yummy cocktails. 🚽 AMENITIES: Outside around the corner and up the stairs. But hey at least the restaurant is smell free. 🥳EXPERIENCE: Had a great meal here, all dishes were quick to the table, tasty and unique in flavor. 👍WILL I BE BACK: Maybe I will, with some guests. 🤔 MY SUGGESTIONS: Maybe some larger dishes.

After visiting the Stolen Gem which serves Rice Paper Scissors food, we were interested to try the actual restaurants located in Hardware Lane. We tried their $59pp diner menu & chose 5 dishes. We got: 🍹 That Lychee Drink & Love Your Sister The lychee drink had too much lime that it’s basically a lime juice, skip this 🙅🏻‍♀️ 🐟 Coconut Snapper Ceviche Fresh, tasty & good texture contrast between crispy wonton & soft fish. Although we’d appreciate if the fish are cut smaller as the wonton breaks everytime we try to use it to scoop/hold the fish. 🥔 Laughing Cow Croquettes One of the must try item! Served hot, another good texture contrast & a nice mix of sweet, creamy, hint of spice flavors. 🌱 Thai Chive Cakes A nice take on chive cakes, soft & not too oily. Must be eaten with the soy-vinegar dip, otherwise could fall a bit bland. 🐠 Crispy Baramundi Interesting use of watermelon, it was served warm - would be a nice thing on its own as we don’t think it paired well with the fish. Both watermelon & fish textures were soft, and the fish was overpowered by the watermelon too. Still a good dish but each component had to be eaten on its own. 🦆 Balinese Crispy Duck Another must try item! The most flavorful dish out of everything - a mix of all senses. If you only want 1 main, choose this ✨ Although rice was included in the feast, we felt it wasn’t enough for 2 people (only 1 small bowl of rice) - especially with the fish & duck we ordered. Overall, it was an ok experience. Only 1 lady staff was nice, the rest unfortunately looked like they try to avoid you when they can which was a shame. Hopefully they can improve as they have the potential to be great. Visited on 7.12.2023

Was really looking forward to this dinner, have heard so many great things about this place. Food was good - we ordered the 5 plates to share. While it was good, I'm not in a rush to come back.

Rice Paprscrs exceeded my expectations! The culinary experience was exceptional, boasting freshness and an explosion of flavors. The extensive vegetarian and vegan options showcased their commitment to catering to diverse palates. What set this place apart was not only the phenomenal food but also the outstanding service. The staff's friendliness, helpfulness, and knowledge added a delightful touch to the dining experience. It's a rare gem where both the cuisine and service shine brightly. I highly recommend trying the lunch option of sharing five plates for a set price. The watermelon dish appetizer, snapper ceviche, and Thai chicken were personal favorites, and my friend raved about the tofu. The staff's friendliness only enhanced our enjoyment. The cocktails, skillfully crafted by the bartender, were a delightful addition to the overall experience. If you're seeking an amazing blend of food, ambiance, and service, I highly recommend Rice Paprscrs. It's a culinary haven that not only meets but exceeds expectations. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to indulge in their delightful offerings once again Alex

Suggested by foodie friends who live in Melbourne. Some of the best food I've ever had. Fantastic concept, and outstanding and creative dishes. Staff was super friendly too. We waited for our table at the bar next door that the waiter suggested. Fun place too. I hope I'll be able to go back some day.

Tasty fusion food within a cool part of Melbourne. At $37 pp for a 5 dish selection (between 2 people), it's definitely not cheap for relatively small portion sizes, but the quality of food and service delivers. To accompany your food is a great selection of cocktails, of which are surprisingly priced competitively ($14 - $18). The major downside to Rice Paper Scissors is the minimal size of the restaurant; you'll have to wait a while for a table, and you may get positioned outside, which is away from the fun ambiance inside. Overall, decent food if you've got a small group of people.

This small restaurant in the heart of Melbourne’s theatre district is one not to be missed. I highly recommend making a reservation to avoid long waits for a table. Service staff are all friendly and attentive. This is a great place to go to share food with your fellow diners for Very reasonable prices. Don’t go past the lobster dumplings. So delicious.

Top little spot. Fantastic service and reasonable prices. The guy seating us (Alex) went out of his way to help us get a seat quickly in a full restaurant, even to the extent of chasing us down in the bar next door. Plates are delicious, small, but designed to share 5 between 2 people. Was a big fan of the lobster dumplings. Only down side is it is a small place so fills quickly.

Delicious food, lovely service staff, yum wine. Originally stopped in requesting a table for 4. A bit of a long wait but worked out well considering one of our party wouldn’t arrive until then. Put my name down and received a text after a bit saying there was a table available. Share food. Tried lots of things. So full. So yum. Thanks. Would visit again. My fav dish was the Asian greens with pork belly.

All dishes are delicious and made with fresh ingredients. Definitely try their salads. They are delicious. The menu overall is very different which is refreshing. Giving one star less as the portion sizes are small which compels you to go with the sharing option. But food is good.

Constantly changing menu. Usually some good dishes. The cocktail Ursula's revenge was exceptional. Creamy and not too sweet with a gin base. You choose 7 dishes which is quite enough for two. Must book in advance though. Very hard to take walk ins even for two.

I was a bit worried when the wait staff were taking a while to attend to the growing line at the entrance. But it wasnt more than a 5 minute delay from our booking. And every single one of the wait staff went out of there way to make our experience more enjoyable. Knowledge of the menu, recommendations, and complimenting my girl's perfume. All while the restaurant is packed out. You guys are the best! Plus the food was awesome as well. Will definitely be back in a hurry.

At first I thought I had Covid again because nothing seemed to have much taste, and the I realised that I didn’t. Some highlights like the Kingfish on cracker but most items we had offered nothing special. We had the ceviche, the broccoli dish, mushroom dumplings and a chicken curry but not much to talk about with any of those dishes. We were also asked to move to another seat literally half way though our courses, so that a group of 4 could sit together.

Had my birthday lunch at Rice Paper Scissors. Chill vibe and the flavours are on point. Gotta give a shoutout to that Snapper Ceviche, love it! We went with the 55pp menu, 5 courses to share— perfect for two and no rice needed! All courses were recommendations by our waiter as well as the cocktail, That Lychee - Super refreshing, tastes like mojito with a hint of ginger. Solid choice to wash it all down.

Love this place! Food quality and service always consistently good. Cerviche is a must! We also had the fried Chicken, Duck, Barramundi and Pork Belly dishes. All delicious and just the right servings. I'll order a curry next time to add a saucy dish to the mix next time. Looking forward to coming back again to try different dishes.

Absolutely a great experience! My partner and I were down visiting from Brisbane, and this was the first place we ate at once we arrived, and what a way to go into Melbourne’s foodie scene! The food was phenomenal, so fresh and so much flavour! There was ample vegetarian/vegan options, which was greatly appreciated. In top of the amazing food, the service was exceptional! The staff were all so incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back on our next visit!

Nice food but overpriced. Would happily come back regularly if the main dishes cost $10 less per plate. Really enjoyed the laughing cow croquettes and sticky soy tofu! We chose 8 dishes to share among 4 + some rice, instead of restricting ourselves to the 5 dishes deal. Could’ve sworn they used to offer a higher number (7 maybe). Food is served when it’s ready and not all at once.

Everything was amazing. Travelled interstate with my partner and was absolutely blow away by the quality of food and the amazing service. As a Filipino, I don't see many Filipino Cuisine restaurants but Rice Paper Scissors did not disappoint! The tocino, bao and the croquettes were my fav. Definitely recommend those. The staff were all friendly as well, very informative and asked for feedback onto he food and cocktails so I could tell they cared. The cocktails were amazing as well, I couldn't keep off the fruity ones! Definitely coming back when I'm interstate.

Simply amazing food and drink! Cool location in hardware lane, super friendly staff. We did the 5 dishes for $55 each deal and we were really happy. Food was great and service was good from most of the staff. Sadly one of the staff who seems to be the maître d showed prejudice towards us when we said we were out for our last meal before we went into lockdown. The change in her expression and questioning us made us felt really unwanted. I understand it’s good to be cautious but there was no need to be rude about it.

I had an AMAZING dining experience at Rice Paper Scissors in Melbourne CBD with a couple of friends a few weeks ago - the whiskey lamb ribs and the crab bahn mi are an absolute MUST!! One of the best Asian fusion restaurants Melbourne has to offer. I loved the dining experience so much that I ordered their cookbook. Unfortunately there was an issue with Aus Post and the order was not delivered to me - however Hammond from Rice Paper Scissors was extremely lovely and helpful and proceeded to send me another copy immediately - I received it 2 days later! It is so rare to experience such fantastic customer service like this - not only in the dining sector but also across other areas of the business. I will definitely be visiting Rice Paper Scissors as soon as VIC restrictions ease - in the mean time I will try my luck at attempting to recreate their whiskey lamb ribs from my new cookbook. :) -Steph M

Firstly, the covid check in process is so easy. This is done on your phone. Secondly, our host for lunch was amazing, such a bright personality. The best part ... all the food. We got the vegan 5 dishes for $35 (not 100% on the cost) I couldn’t pick a favourite they are all fantastic. Think I’ve been here like twice in about the last 4 weeks.

Had to wait over an hour on a not even busy night because the restaurant prioritized groups over single diners (even though there were other single diners who were willing to group up, they were unwilling to do this). This was last year so maybe they have changed their policy. However, it was worth the wait! Tons of gluten free options that were different than the usual. Will definitely be back.

My friend and I came for a midweek lunch. My friend is vegan and she mentioned that this restaurant catered well for vegans. She wasn’t wrong. I have visited this restaurant a few times before as a meat eater and have never been disappointed and I wasn’t disappointed this time round either. There was a full page dedicated to vegan options. Lots of faux meat as well vegetable dishes. We went for the 5 dish sharing option which is pretty good value at $32 for lunch and $37 for dinner. We chose the betel leaf, banana blossom salad, steamed buns, Asian greens & the special that day, mushroom curry. They were all so delicious, fresh ingredients and the faux meat especially the duck could almost pass for the real thing. The standouts would have to be the banana blossom salad, the dressing was to die for, so zingy and the Asian greens was so fresh and again the sauce, so flavor some! I washed it down with the Rice Paper Spritzer, light and refreshing, perfect with these dishes. The staff was very friendly and loved to chat. Be prepared to wait in the evenings though as is does get pretty busy and the restaurant isn’t too big but well worth the wait.

Definitely dont miss!! We were recommended by a colleague. We really enjoyed the thai tapas approach. Very original dishes and they have specials. The night we went we had a chicken thai dish. Barramundi, wagu, ribs, and beef cubes. Dont miss the roti!! Such a great peanut sauce. We also had a jasmine rice to have with the dishes. The pp rate is very fair and we WILL be back. I was tossing between 3 and 4 stars. The staff is very friendly and service is fast. I just thought the serving size was way too small for the price. Paying $32 pp I’d expect to leave very full, which I didn’t. The food itself was very delicious. Would recommend the duck salad and lamb chops. It was very busy so you might want to reserve during peak times.

Fantastic dining experience. A set price for 5 dishes per head which is great for larger groups as the staff make sure you have enough for everybody to have each dish. You can also order separate meals if you prefer. Drinks were very reasonable and the atmosphere was great. Car park opposite.

We had the vegan banquet with 5 dishes. I’m a total meat lover, so the fact that I was blown away by at least 4 out of the 5 dishes says a lot! Everything was so so good! Our top two would probably be the samosa salad and beetroot curry. Ooo ooo and the steamed rice cakes! Like I said, we loved absolutely everything! To top it off, the servers were super gracious and so nice to chat with. Definitely recommend it.

We had the vegan menu and I have never tasted such delicious food. So fresh and tasty. Very generous portions too with the share plates. The cocktails were so good too. Great service also. Cannot wait to go back 😋

We were looking for a nice Vietnamese restaurant and came across this place. The food and service was outstanding. We picked 5 dishes to share between the two of us at $45 per head. Was up there with the best Asian food I’ve eaten. Highly recommend

Nice viet fusion restaurant with sharing plates! The cocktails are really big, I personally liked the espresso martini but wasn’t a fan of the Thai sangria :) I definitely recommend the Banh Mi and the Thai fried chicken 🍗 I also liked the roti but thought it was a bit dried and hard, we also ordered the prawn skewers which were really good! The rest was just too spicy for me to enjoy unfortunately but that’s mostly because I can’t stand spicy that much!

Good lunch special if you are in a group (5 dishes) which let's you sample of a good selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes. We had a selection of pork belly, duck, prawn, snapper and tempura dishes. All tasted really fresh and lots of flavour. My favourite was the cerviche, and others enjoyed the duck dish and prawn salad. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had to chase a few items a couple of times (they kept forgetting to bring our rice) but overall a good spot to visit in the CBD.

There are many reasons this Southeast Asian fusion restaurant has been around for years and still is very popular. Funky yet bright interior decor, chilled ambience, friendly but not intrusive staff, and the list goes on. The critic I have is rather small quantity of food which is more on the bland side.

A delicious banquet style Asian meal full of flavours and textures! We had an amazing time here on a Monday night, where the waiting staff were attentive and friendly, the food was tasty, hearty and fresh; and the menu had something for everyone. Offering five dishes from their main menu for $49 per person, this is a stop not to be missed.

The food was fantastic and the service was great. My wife and I shared 5 dishes and the portion sizes were spot on. The flavours were a wonderful blend of sweetness, spice, coconut, creaminess, and crispness. Each dish was a surprise package to be opened up and enjoyed.

One of the best restaurant experiences on our entire Australia/NZ trip! Everything we ate here was out of this world delicious. The fusion, fun branding and vibes of this restaurant make it appealing. We waited 5 min to be seated and came at like 7pm. Our waitress was great at explaining the menu and broke down the popular items. This was the best broccoli salad I’ve ever had, the empanadas/hot pocket were so yummy! The fried chicken, sauces and everything were perfect.

This restaurant is the perfect place for lunch! They have an amazing deal during lunch time- 35pp for 5 sharing dishes, definitely a bang for your buck! Despite its reasonable pricing, the food did not lack in its taste or quality. We often take our clients here for lunch and meetings. The place is always buzzing but it's not too loud, so it's perfect for a client meet-up or just a casual catch-up with some friends. We've never been here at night but we're confident that they can impress us with their dinner menu, since their lunch offerings are spectacular.

Fantastic experience to have dinner in here, staffs are very helpful and patient to explain their menu. Must try the Crispy Barramundi which crispy and soft inside, tender and smooth. The BBQ lamb ribs also mouthwatering, my friend doesn’t like the smell of lamb but she also like this dish. Beef short rib good taste with spicy and creamy sauce, nice with crepe.

I so enjoyed the experience, friendly staff, casual feeling and quality food, wine. We sat outside where the heaters where sufficient to keep us warm. It's a hard balance to do a quality restaurant experience and keep that beautiful casual air that Australians love

Absolutely loved every aspect from my visit, from the friendly staff member who greeted us at the door and took our jackets so we were most comfortable at the table, to the amazing waitress who was super friendly, giggly and overall buzzing with positive vibes, I was already impressed with the service and then the food came. WOW! Being a new vego in the game, I find it hard to find vegetarian/vegan food that is as satisfying as meat and I was not disappointed. Every dish we chose on the $55 banquet was ridiculously good. Portions were great and I was so surprised at the quality and value for money. If you love asian food, good vibes and delicious cocktails, highly recommend.

We opted for the shared menu for 2 persons and we just couldn't fault any of the dishes that we ordered. It was hard to pick a favourite out of the 5 dishes we chose, however the standout for me would be the crispy barramundi and green apple salad. All our dishes paired well with roti and bottomless rounds of rice. The team at Rice Paper Scissors really know how look after their customers and I'd easily recommend this as a place to have a nice meal out with friends/family.

There are many restaurants in Melbourne which does Asian fusion/refined cuisine and this restaurant does very well where many other similar themed restaurants fall short. They stay true to their cuisine, keeping the authentic flavour and taste, and still elevate the dish with some clean refined cooking and standing out some of the ingredients and that'd what elevates all the dishes we tried and gave that Wow factor. One of the best Asian themed restaurants in Melbourne and absolutely loved every single dish we tried. Sticky pork belly is a must try.

What a lovely random. Was finishing up in the city and thought I'd grab a quick meal on Hardware lane, and RPS did a great job . Not only squeezed me in between sittings, but didn't rush me. Very friendly, prompt service, and each tapas lovely. AND made sure I didn't poison Zip with some garlic marinade. Very sweet that !! Had kingfish cracker.. yum Snapper ceviche - yum Fried Chicken - yum Crispy barramundi - yum Laotian Chicken Curry - yum Happy Friday, I say!

Absolutely amazing, wonderful food, wonderful service and a great atmosphere (not too noisy), we had the kingfish crackers, fried Thai chicken, Thai hotdogs, Burmese tea leaf salad and sticky pork belly. Would 100% recommend the kingfish, Thai chicken and Thai hotdogs.
