An overall rating of 92/100 This place fully deserves its 4.4 Google rating as at July 2022, and then some! Had my first Melbourne 'Magic' coffee here and it was hands down one of the best coffees I've had in my life. Most of the dishes here were on the money also - top marks for uniqueness of the menu and its variety (I was stumped for choice!) The lobster & prawn roll and the rye crepes were the star performers for sure. The souffle has some room for improvement taste wise, but aside from this, no complaints. All ingredients were fresh and you can tell the best is used. The prices are justified also. Would recommend as an excellent late brekky/brunch spot!

Our host was lovely and our food came out in reasonable timing. I got the duck, bacon with pear 🍐dish, the serving was huge but happy to have more on my plate than something little. The venue was spacious and bright, all types of people came through from new mums with their babies, groups of friends and couples. A great venue for brunch and chats.

This French-inspired Melbourne café is an institution, a definite recommendation for breakfast or brunch. While they don't accept reservations, they offer a waiting list to avoid standing in line. It's particularly popular on weekends, so be ready for a potential wait. The array of drinks and dishes isn't just good; it's excellent! The staff is genuinely helpful, contributing to a delightful and uplifting atmosphere that can brighten your day.

Good place to have a brunch. Normally you have to wait outside the restaurant after register your name, but you don't have to wait long time and can enter right away (Staff will call you). It was an opportunity to have a fun and delicious brunch with my family.

Good service, gentle people, beautiful place to visit and to have a pleasant chat. But their dishes are overvalued (not overpriced). You can buy better sandwiches or dishes around the corner or in any mall of Melbourne. It seems they make their coffees in a saucepan. Bad experience. Sorry.

Let me tell you about this amazing brunch spot I found in Melbourne called The Hardware Société. It's tucked away on a cute little lane, and from the moment I walked in, I was hit with this warm, inviting vibe. The place itself is pretty small, but they've managed to create a really cozy atmosphere with exposed brick walls and wooden furniture. I wasn't sure what to expect from the menu, but let me tell you, it was a decision-maker's nightmare! Everything sounded incredible, from savory baked eggs to lobster benedict, and of course, all the usual breakfast suspects with a fancy twist. In the end, I went for the pork belly and fried eggs, and it did not disappoint. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the fried eggs were cooked to absolute perfection. My friend got the ricotta hotcakes with poached pears, and they were practically an explosion of flavor in every bite. The only downside? Be prepared to wait! This place is clearly a local favorite, and there was a bit of a line when I got there. But trust me, the food and the atmosphere are worth the wait. If you find yourself in Melbourne and looking for a seriously good brunch spot, The Hardware Société is a must-try.

An amazing restaurant for our breakfast. Everything was delicious and served with style. No reservations, but our group of eight didn’t wait long. Do read the green book - it tells the story of the place and people behind it.

The lobster Eggs Benedict did not disappoint. Perfect buttery hollandaise with equally buttery lobster on a blackened seeded bun. Great coffees and a toasty inviting atmosphere!

The must visit brunch place in Melbourne. Food is delicious, ambiance is impeccable. Staff are friendly and provided the best service. Chocolate mousse was special dessert of the day and it is an absolute hit. The softness of the cake with prefect texture. Not sure if they are going to add this to their menu or not. The rest of the food is delicious and food arrived on perfect timing, not too late and not too fast.

Best iced tea I've ever had! It was a random order and the best decision ever. I really like the lobster roll as well. The pork belly dish was so so though. Definitely will come back every time I visit Melbourne city. Amazing crew with friendly service.

Just about the fanciest breakfast I've had in the CBD. Eggs Benedict with Scallop? Yeah it works! Coffee is good. Atmosphere is not overwhelming. Staff are friendly. Very comfortable and inviting.

Excellent food and service. I got a latte and the baked eggs with chorizo. The food tasted really really good. I loved the little donut holes they serve with hot drinks. I went around 9:15am on a Saturday and got a table immediately. The food is a bit pricey as many have pointed out. But I thought the price was a fair reflection of the quality of food they serve.

This is a top notch cafe for a delicious Saturday brunch. I ended up coming here two days in a row so I could introduce others to the restaurant. My first time I had the Eggs Benedict which was lovely. The soft bread and three delightful scallops were highlights. My second time I had the Trout Timbale which was a nice alternative to standard brunch fare. I enjoyed the experience of eating the creme on the hard bread. The service and atmosphere were on both days relaxing and inviting. Although it was much busier on the Saturday, I had no trouble talking or listening to anyone.

Went here on a Monday for brunch. Waited 20min for a table, to be expected as it was the weekend of Taylor Swift fever. Food decent but nothing amazing, small portion for the baked eggs. Service was friendly but food took 50min to arrive from ordering. Approx $30-35pp.

The food is certainly the experience here. This has been the best breakfast I've had in Melbourne to date. Breakfast dishes done amazingly well and all the flavours are just right and an explosion of flavour. The atmosphere is a real typical Melbourne feel and that just adds to the experience. Booking ahead is definitely recommended though, if you don't like waiting in line for a table.

Last week, we have ordered hot smoked salmon, baked eggs UN (Vegan) and a cup of mocha and latte. The drinks are good and hot smoked salmon was gone. Unfortunately the baked egg we have ordered got a slice of pork inside and we understand it might be an accident. We told the staff and expected for an answer or response afterwards but the staff didn’t follow up. We were left aside and we have to call and ask the staff again how and what happened next. Only the staff gave us a free chocolate croissant as what kitchen staffs requested. We understand it’s busy on weekend, full house and all. When there’s an issue, it should be solved instantly, give customer’s an explanation and response. And not left us without any answer. On the payment, we explained the issue and they only informed us they’ve told the kitchen on this mistake (which we expected this response straight after we told them). Again, we expected they’ll take away the baked egg $$ instead of the drinks. Ended up drinks and croissant were not be billed.

First time back for a few years and great that not much has changed - excellent coffee and tasty, French-inspired dishes that push that envelope of the standard brunch menu. This is the place you go for something a bit fancy and indulgent, as evidenced by the number of lobster rolls being dished out, though options are somewhat limited for GF or DF pundits. If anyone is listening, would love to see the classic croque madame back on the menu!

Great place to have breakfast / brunch. Have heard about this restaurant for many times about their popularity among brunch in Melbourne. This was the first time we visited this place. Amazing food and service. Its on our list as one of best brunch in Melbourne. Note: the portion size for both food and drink are huge.

This is one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. I always enjoy the food and coffee here. However, I hope the management see this review and doing something about it. I noticed this time that there is a family with children who ordered pastries from their kids. I believe it was croissant and the kid was eating double dipping the croissant on the jam jar after each bite. I think it is pretty disgusting for other customers that will be using the same jam jar after the kid. Going forward I think it is better for the cafe to simply provided a small plate of jam instead of the whole jar.

Highly recommend this place. We had one of the best food experiences in Melbourne here. Staff were were quick to attend and very welcoming. Food and coffee came quick even though they were packed. Breakfast was massive and filling but still packed with taste. We left to a line outside waiting to get in. Speaks for itself.

Love everything about this place. My favorite was the baked eggs-deux (with chorizo). Coffee was great. We had brunch in this place 2 times during our trip, shows how much we love the foods here, eh! 🤪 Staffs were friendly too. Please note that they close quite early, 3p.m. At our first visit we ran to get here on time before they close.

One of the best cafe I have tried! I came here twice of my 4 days Melbourne trip!! Coffee are very nice, staff are very friendly! Food are very special and unique, we ordered 4 different dishes and all very delicious! Pork belly, beef Sunday special, tuna and scallop and lobster bun!!! I will come here again when I am next in Melbourne!! We booked via online and it was so convenient. But only can book this one not the hardware lane one.

Oh man, if I’m still giving this place an EASY 5 stars after having taken over 30 minutes for our order to be taken, and coffees coming *after* the food, then you know they must be doing something right. Serving up a French twist on classic brunch food, The Hardware Société probably gave me one of the tastiest breakfasts I’ve ever had in my life, and I’m still enjoying just thinking back on it now. The little venue is cosy, and the tableware is all custom and very cute. If I was buying new tableware for my kitchen I’d be back in the heartbeat to get a few sets of the custom plates and cups they offer. Amazing place.

I have to say that we really had a disappointing experience here. We ordered Lobster Benedict and Mushrooms. Honestly, they have beautiful display. But they didn't taste as good as we expected. Lobster is too fishy and four pouched eggs are all overcooked. But latte and hot chocolate are pretty good.

We tried the duck leg on the new menu, absolutely amazing!! The leg was marinated overnight in spicy and so flavorful, juicy. Smashed potatoes with bacon crisp. Raw beef sandwich was tasty as well. Serving size is very generous. Only down side is the coffee, pretty average.

Chic and quirky industrial style interior design with great internal space. It is not too crowded and not too spacious and the distance between the tables feels just right. Padre roasters coffee is beautiful - it is smooth and rich and full of flavour. I had baked eggs which were nice - would not call them special but it was a very well done dish. I would certainly come back again for the coffee, the atmosphere and cosy quirkiness.

Words hardly do justice. Such a clever and well planned menu. Went back 2 days in a row as we couldn't try everything we loved on the first trip. Between us we tried 6 dishes for breakfast and could not believe the tastes of each one. The staff are adorable, they welcome you warmly and treat each guest with so much respect and pay attention to every detail. Cannot wait to return to Melbourne and sample more off the menu. Such a delight.

I fully appreciated their robust list of pour over coffee options. (Market Lane is one of their star players) Drinking coffee here is definitely an experience to savor. And their Slayer machine is 😍 to look at. The staff are kind and the food tells your taste buds a story they’ll never forget.

One of the very best brunches I’ve had in a long time! We chose to go to their flagship café on Katherine Place. Weekends are walk-ins only and we got seated within 5 minutes on a Saturday at around 12:20 pm. They have two daily specials — one sweet and one savoury. The sweet one was gone, which wasn’t a concern as I prefer savoury brunches. I opted for the Cold Brew and my friend got a Hot Chocolate. The Cold Brew is served with a slice of orange and is delicious; most importantly, it wasn’t acidic at all, which I really liked. For the Hot Chocolate, you receive a small jug of milk with chocolate powder and you then pour it into a cup that has chocolate ganache at the bottom. It was rich and delicious. I ordered the Baked Eggs Deux (yes, there’s Un too), which come with Chorizo, Potato, Piquillo Peppers, Queen Manchego, Almonds, and Aioli. This dish was superb! I don’t know how one can pack this much flavour into such a small ramekin, but this dish just slapped from the very first mouthful! It’s served with three slices of toasted baguette and I just couldn’t get enough of it! The explosion of flavours was exceptionally well balanced too! My friend asked for the Mushrooms on Toast — mushroom Bourguignon, French onion croquette, shallot bread, and poached eggs. He said he loved it. I didn’t want to taste it as I didn’t want to mix the flavours. The service was also fantastic! We were looked after by four staff and they were all extremely lovely and attentive! One of the staff recommended that I try their Yuzu Cold Drip next time, so I’m already looking forward to that! We paid $78.54 for everything, which included the 10% weekend surcharge and 2% Amex surcharge. Absolutely sensational! This place deserves more than 5 stars! I’m already planning my next visit! (On a side note — Someone from Management, or Marketing should write to Google to change this from Accomodation to a Café)

We absolutely loved the food here, however would definitely recommend booking. There is a section which is just awful to sit in right at the back with no windows or light and is really stuffy. My other suggestion would be to have salt shakers instead of an open bowl which a million people have put their fingers in. This is the same with the sugar - it’s in an open bowl and when we were there we saw lots of birds just eating out of it!

Hardware Societe has become one of my favorite brunch spots. The charming ambiance, coupled with friendly staff, makes it a delightful place to start the day. The food is not only beautifully presented but also bursting with flavor. From the perfectly poached eggs to the freshly baked pastries, every dish is a treat for the senses. It's the kind of place that sets the bar high for brunch experiences, and I find myself returning again and again for their consistently exceptional offerings.

I had been recommended this place but sadly don't think it was worth the long wait and highly priced food. Had the Chicken Benedict, the sauce was very rich, and the chicken rillett had a few pieces of unexpected cartilage that was quite tough on the teeth.. I guess the chicken wasn't deboned well. Location is a little out of the way compared to other places in the city.

Absolutely delightful experience! The brunch at Melbourne The Hardware Societe was a culinary journey through Australia's flavors. 🤍😳 The presentation was impeccable, and each dish was bursting with freshness and creativity. Especially the Benedict burger (the bread was sooooo amazing), the croissant bread was crispy and yummy, rice pudding was fantastic🥹🙏🏻 The ambiance was cozy yet modern, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommend for anyone looking to indulge in a unique and delicious brunch experience. And don’t forget to bring coffee beans back home too! 😍

Just look at this. Tuna Mille-feuille, the best brunch dish in just about the entire world. Excellently executed on the plate and tastes heavenly with all the flavours of the crispy mille-feuille pastry with the slightly pan-fried tuna, raw on the inside with the sourness of the pickled radish and the tuna mixture silky smooth and bursting with flavour. Definitely come here again.

I really enjoyed breakfast here. We sat in the booth seats at the back. Staff were friendly and advised the specials which I had the duck. Coffee was tasty and you also get a small donut which was a nice bonus. The duck special was really delicious and surprisingly good portion size. Recommended.

We had an excellent breakfast at Hardware Societe. The food was fresh and innovative. However it is a bit expensive with breakfast costing us more than $100 for a family of four. Also the coffee wasn’t as strong as we like it so we’ll ask for a double-shot next time.

An absolute staple - I've brought friends and family into Hardware Société as well as relaxing or working while there by myself and it never fails to delight. The food and drinks are divine (with quality ingredients and creative flair) the staff are delightful and the busy ambience is simply a credit to their popularity. Last time I went by myself I started with a coffee and pastry, then ordered the Eggs with Soldiers. Although far more filling than I'd pictured, I was determined to finish it at all costs - it was just that good! The staff are very accommodating and go above and beyond to ensure happiness. Definitely a spot to try!!

This is a must do for all foodies and those who enjoy great vibes and trendy places; heck there's even a spot for your dog/pooch/fur baby. For me, this place epitomizes the Melbourne experience! Food is amazing, atmosphere is trendy and on point and the wait staff are super friendly; oh and did I tell you about the cocktails....absolutely superb! Yes I had a 20min wait to get a table (you give your name and number of people with you when you arrive and then take a seat on a bench across the road (I thought it was a bus stop when I first arrived)) but the wait was an experience all in itself! Everyone there is waiting for the same thing, we've read the same reviews so was super easy to spark conversations and meet new people. Photos: 1 - Lispahan cocktail and Boozy Tea cocktail 2 - L: Lobster Eggs Benedict R: Millefeuille with Tuna Civiche and Mandarin 3 - can't remember the name but a massive thick piece of sweet glazed bread, lemon meringue, vanilla custard, raspberry coulis and fresh raspberries to cut through the sweetness. Friggin Amazing!

One of the best breakfasts in Melbourne. Very impressed with the presentation and bravery in the dishes. Enjoyed the scrambled egg and tuna dish. Will be back!

Really good food, really flavourful and big portion sizes. Good and creamy coffee and the hot chocolate is very good. If you are going on weekends book in advance as they are usually full.

Food was amazing! Service was excellent! The place was super clean and felt welcoming. But most importantly and what made our visit was Audrey who was super awesome. She literally has an excellent service style and will definitely come back again and again bcz of the amazing way Audrey treated us. Great job Audrey and thank you for a wonderful experience.

Third time eating here this week. Best chai latte I ever had. The dishes are so tasty and they have an amazing coffee as well. Very friendly staff. Hands down my fav cafe in Melbourne 👌🏻

Chill and relaxed ambience perfect for brunch. The food was great and came as a bit of a surprise as they are not your usual brekky combos - atleast not for me. Had to rely on photos on IG/reviews to get an idea as the menu doesn't have any photos. My husband ordered the pork belly one and it was amazing as well - their piccolo was topnotch accdg to my coffee enthusiast partner. Went there with our 8month old bub and place was very bub friendly with enough space for high chairs, though noting that you'd have to carry the pram going up to the restaurant - only about 4 or 5 steps, and staff are nice enough to give you a hand. Staff were all nice and friendly and very attentive given how busy the place got when we were there.

Stopped in for breakfast as a group of 4 and we were all quite pleased. The sweet breakfasts were tad bit too sweet for me and I def have a sweet tooth. The coffees were good, and we also got good service. Picture is of the fried brioche special that day.

Had company lunch here and I thoroughly enjoyed my dish (scrambled eggs) and so did the rest of the team. Love the subtle, but unique flavors my dish had and it was quite well portioned too. I'll definitely return with my family to try their other dishes!

Lovey food and service! The store is so picturesque and aesthetic, they sell some kitchenware too. Would return to try other dishes. The millefeuille fish was so unique and encompassed so many textures and flavours. Poached eggs were perfect! The special of the day was awesome too! Really enjoyed the honey glazed bacon and scrambled egg. 📷 Millefeuille, Special of the day, Coffee Spritz, Flat white

Have been meaning to check out this place for a while now and they certainly did not disappoint. Their customer service was friendly and professional. Had the potato and chorizo baked eggs and a beetroot juice. First time having baked eggs, and what a delicious treat this was. The juice was equally delicious. Overall, this place is definitely a must.

For what is a seemingly innocuous Cafe location, The Hardware Société says out with the expected and in with seamlessly executed, delicate cuisine. Service is quality, as is the new norm. Coffee was Melbourne standard. Crucially, the meal was unique, timeless, experimental, and surprisingly, genuine value for money. It is with great pleasure that I recommend this establishment for the liberty it must allow their chef, as the millefeuille was a passion piece that delivered in both presentation and taste. It is a relief to try a dish so well-composed, imparting a genre of elements disparate to the common breakfast, that dually integrates traditional flavours and incorporates the most fresh of ingredients. Compliments to the chef for this astounding dish.

Vibe: 8/10 Food: 6/19 *change of menu An amazing breakfast/ brunch place. Friendly and amazing staff. Highly recommend Online reservations. Ordered Pork belly and egg. Change of menu as of April 2022. The pork was not cooked in a way where it would melt in your mouth like the old menu. It is accompanied by excellent balancing flavours from base purée and pesto. I would suggest removing the beans from the base purée. Pork cracking was not hard and crunchy, which was a real disappointment. Overall, not the best meal I have from here. Good coffee, I must admit.

Fantastic food! Absolutely delicious! Coffees were quite expensive, probably the most expensive in Melbourne. Although thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Great Cafe in the heart of Melbourne CBD. This place was recommended to me by my Team and I was impressed! The coffee menu was extensive and my only issue was they didn't have decaf (unfortunately I can't consume caffeine).. For a cafe with so many options, a decaf option would be great! The Team were professional and friendly. The cold pressed juice was great and refreshing! The food however was exceptional and I can see why it was recommended so highly!! I would certainly visit again and dine in. Recommended if you're in the area for the food and juice!

We had a hard hard time figuring out what to order, BECAUSE EVERYTHING WAS AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. The Benedict with Beef Brisket was Amazing and so was the duck confit, cooked to perfection. The Brioche was fantastically sweet and the poached pear on it, simply simply stunning. 10/10 would recommend and definitely will return here again and again and again.

Tried the Benedict, and wouldn't recommend it. Though the eggs were poached well, everything else was just extremely sweet, found it very hard to swallow by the end of it. Mocha was nice. Service was great - greeted at the door, to a table, asked if they could get me a coffee or something before I even sat down, coffee and food arrived quickly after order, about 10 mins after each, and all smiles all round from all staff with friendly demeanor. Ambiance was cute, fresh, chilled out, clean, with ample space and pretty pastel colours. Table ordering system loads a Mr Yum website but doesn't then allow ordering. Visited Friday breakfast, 1% surcharge on card (plus 10% if weekend, or 20% public holiday). Steps on entry/exit.

Nice place with good food. Service was good but had to wait outside for a while before we could sit. There were three people total with me ordred 3 food items and 3 drinks and was over $150 so a bit expensive.

Second time here and I didn’t think the second experience could top the first.. but it did!! The friendliest staff who went above and beyond. Coffee was perfect, food absolutely amazing. I’m counting down the days till I visit Melbourne again to come back! Thank you😊

Delicious food, great coffee, and friendly staff 👍🏽 it’s one of my favorite cafe in Melbourne. I used to go there for breakfast. I love its atmosphere ☺️Highly recommended 🙏🏽

FANTASTIC!!!!! It was the first time I’ve been here in for me this morning, and I loved everything there like the perfect coffee, the delicious meal and the service. The coffee was much more delicious than I expected. Also, I actually ordered the scrambled eggs that were super yum, but just cuz my body wasn’t 100%, I couldn’t finish eating them all which was a shame and disappointing to myself. But they were super caring and sweet to me despite that. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for the best cafe in Melbourne. Thank you so much.

Lovely service from the staff. Affordable menu items and yummy food. Recommend the matcha latte as well. I dropped my coffee after being slammed by the front door and they made me a new one straight away 🙏🏽 Thank you

The service and atmosphere here were great! waitress/ waiters were all helpful and nice the coffee was next level, best we have had in Melbourne by far!!! For breakfast we got the scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast. The mushrooms on toast is different to something i’d usually go for but delicious nonetheless

The restaurant had the most delicious food I have had in a long time, A little on the pricey side, but the service and the overall ambiance was amazing. Would totally recommend it to somebody who is looking for a great place for a first date.

This cafe in Melbourne is one of my favorites, and I consistently enjoy their food and coffee. However, I hope the management reads this review and takes action. During my recent visit, I observed a family with children ordering pastries for their kids, specifically croissants. I noticed that one of the kids was double-dipping the croissant into the jam jar after each bite. I believe this practice is unsanitary and could be unpleasant for other customers who might use the same jam jar afterward. In the future, it might be a better idea for the cafe to provide individual servings of jam on small plates instead of the entire jar.

    - Good location - Limited breakfast menu - When we requested orange juice from the menu, it was not available - No alterations were allowed - No lactose-free milk if you are lactose intolerant - Not a great experience with the staff Overall, it was not a good experience for us compared to most cafes in Melbourne. We left after 4 minutes to the Cafe next door.

Food here was delicious! I had the empanada and fried eggs. Portion was really generous and I couldn’t finish it all despite it being so tasty. Salad was super refreshing between the empanada and eggs. I also had an ice chocolate which was really good too! Service was pretty good, wait staff really friendly and attentive :)

Best Fried Brioche I've had so far. The sweetness is just right and the softness of the bread is really good. Their customer service is equally great. The waiting time might be abit long (~15 mins) but it's worth it.

Stumbled on this gem of a place when I visited Melbourne recently. I noticed the queue outside and nearly left as I thought I would have to wait ages, but it moved quickly and in no time I had a seat up at the bar for breakfast. One of the best coffees I've had in Melbourne - and thats a big call as Melbourne is renowned for its fantastic coffee! Food was fantastic and my dietery requests were catered for. Loads of staff so not a long wait for food or coffee. My only regret is that I only discovered it on my last day as I would have chosen to have breakfast there everyday instead of at the hotel.

For a small flat white coffee dine in takes 25 mins and taste warm. Food came late and nothing surprised me. Many staffs around and the cafe is not full capacity yet but still no one checking on us for waiting time.Staffs are a bit uncomfortable and feel annoyed when you asked them for a copy of the receipt. One time visit and I won’t be back for trying again.
