Simplicity in food and kindness in words is how I'd describe this place. In just $7.50 (student concession), I got a plate of rice and 2 curries with dessert, sweet, cool buttermilk as much as you want. No extra charges for refills! The owners were really wonderful and the ambiance of the place was a calming one. If you need simple but fulfilling food without breaking your bank, by all means come to this restaurant.

The staff at Crossways are particularly friendly and accommodating and service is very fast. You can purchase take away or you can eat there and consume as many servings of main course, dessert & beverages as you desire for just $9.50 (or $7.50 if you have a concession card) regardless. The Hare Krishna food meets various food groups & dietary requirements/preferences, making it accessible and healthy to various individuals. The main course and some deserts are vegan and overall, the menu is vegetarian. The curries are generally mildly spicy and flavoursome and there are a great deal of vegetables and very often some tofu and legumes. The menu includes rice, papadums 2 curries, fruit halava, orange cordial, lassi & water. There is a set menu for every day of the week. I am personally very glad that Crossways has re-opened and I believe the food is delicious and a good staple. I pay Crossways a visit on most days I’m in the city and it is my favourite restaurant of all time! I would recommend Crossways, particularly for people who like curries, have specific dietary preferences &/ have large appetites.

Crossways might just be my favourite restaurant in Australia. The food is insanely good, and very affordable. $9.50 will get you a massive plate of hot food, rice, and an amazing dessert. Service is very fast, and the shop is warm and cosy. I like to take my plate upstairs, where it's quieter. Personally, I'm not vegetarian and I don't care much for vegetarian food - but Crossways is so good that I find myself visiting most days when I'm in Melbourne.

This is a great place for meals that are tasty, healthy and filling, all for a cheap price ($9.50 for all-u-can-eat, or $7.50 as a student). The menu also rotates which means you get variety, and there's plenty of seating with an upstairs area. Staff are also friendly.

I reckon it is one of the best food outlet in the city. It's not just cheaper (Regular: $9.50, Concession: $7.50) yet also serves tasty food on the basis of buffet. They have different menu every day (Monday to Friday). They usually provide one curry, rice, pappadam, custard, Halava, Buttermilk and Juice. The best part here is that all the mentioned items are unlimited. Eat and drink as much as you want, as much as you can by paying the specific amount initially. I had Thai green curry in curry and it was so delectable. Your tummy won't be just full but happy as well after you eat here. The ambience of this place is basic and if you are always looking just for that then this place might not captivate you. But if you prefer the quality that too at cheaper price which ain't an easy deal to get. Then you must give this place a whirl. However, as the name suggests, it is a Vegetarian and Vegan restaurant only. Be mindful of that as I have seen some people stepping inside but then leaving instantly as they don't see any non-vegetarian item.

One of the good place to eat Indian vegetarian meal. The place is situated at first floor and is very neat and tidy. All you can eat is offered in approximately $ 8 ( lower prices for students and adults). It is not proper restaurant and they offer only one dish ( of course changing everyday) with rice followed by sweet dish. Two types of drinks are available. The persons serving here are really nice and friendly. I will recommend this place.

I had chickpea and rice with papadam, custard and halwa. Taste was awesome. Obviously everything was unlimited including the lassi and orange rasna. However chickpeas were not pressure cooked. It was only boiled and thus hard. If you cook chickpea you the difference between pressure cooked chickpea and boiled chickpea. Rest all was cook. All they need is to boil the chickpea in jumbo size pressure cooker before making curry. Rest all was superb. Update: been there so far three times in past two weeks. On student card concession price is 7.5 AUD. Really worth it.

Best place, vegetarian, healthy, tasty food, just feels like home food. I don't think you will find a restaurant which gives 'All you can eat' for $7.50 if you are a student and $9.5 for everyone. A simple online food order will be a minimum of $20. Highly Recommend. Thank You.

Super affordable, quick, and filling meal for $7.50. I lovee their halava pudding. If you go for an earlier dinner (around 5.30pm) you can try both the lunch and dinner 😋

A very good initiative by ISKCON to serve vegetarian/vegan food with a touch of love and warmth. Located at the heart of the city in Swanston Street, this place offers vegetarian thali meals for lunch and dinner just for 9.5 bucks.

Crossways is one of the best value meals in Melbourne for under $10. It is vegetarian and all you can eat. You usually get rice, two main courses and sweets. They have a discount for those on a concession too. Grace and I often eat there and have enjoyed it every single time.

Fully vegetarian eating place. Nothing fancy, but I love how you don’t really need to make a decision as there is already a set meal for either lunch or dinner. If you are a student, show then your student card, and you will receive student rate!!

Highly recommend coming here for a super speedy, tasty, hearty meal always served with a smile! The food is all vego and incredibly cheap ($9.50 full fare or $7.50 concession/student) and is all you can eat you so won’t be leaving hungry! The meals are so cheap that you can even pay forward a meal to help those in need. These guys do a lot to help the more vulnerable members of our society. Hare Krishna 🙏🏼

Excellent food, piping hot but mildly spicy, large portion plus extras if you want. Laid back no rush meal in the middle of the city for $8.95. Brilliant. Desert is nice too. Between the Causeway and Walk Arcade, easy to find once you know where it is, worth the time hunting for it otherwise!

GREAT LOW COST OPTION FOR HEALTHY VEGETARIAN MEALS There is nothing fancy about Crossways but that just adds to its street cred! No-frills setup which is more like a school canteen than a restaurant but you get an "all you can eat" offering of healthy Indian-influenced vegetarian meals (for just $8 if you are a student). Friendly staff. People with mobility issues - you need to negotiate a flight of stairs to the first floor dining hall.

One of the best vegetarian & non-profit restaurants in the city. Food is prepared with fresh ingredients and vegetables. No, extra spices or chilli. The staff are very polite and helpful. It's unlimited food. Students and senior citizens can get a discount. The sweet is always the best and very rich in taste. Been going there since 2006. The taste is the same since then.

I loved this place! I am not vegetarian yet I could eat here every day. The food is great, vegetarian and vegan indian food. They serve one dish in the day, all you can eat, with rice, main dish, dessert and water. The price is really affordable for the quantity and quality of food, and they support students if you bring your student card! If you are near by, I think you should definitely give it a go. 👌 On top of that, the revenue from the local is used to give free food for those who need it the most, so eating here is not only good for you and the environment, but also gives more to others. There is plenty of space is you need to do an assignment while you eat or work. The staff is nice and friendly, greeting you with a smile :) Absolutely wonderful and I truly recommend it.

This was a great place. The staff were inviting and welcoming, happy to explain how their restaurant worked, and genuinely just seems excited to feed people. My partner and I were able to get dinner, a drink, and dessert for under $20. That's for the both of us, not per person. Plus they'll let you get seconds, no extra charge. They seemed open to and excepting of visibly queer trans people like myself, which was great too. Fantastic place, highly recommend.

Absolute gem hidden in plain sight. I don’t see how they could have made a profit on my transaction considering they gave me 2 desserts, 2 plates of food and 2 wonderful drinks for $7.50 (slightly more if not a student but a great price anyway). The main was good, particularly for the price, but the dessert (custard with Halva) and drinks stole the show, absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area. $7.50 is just way cheaper than anything I would cook for myself so if I was a struggling student living in the inner city this place would be my life hack.

This is a no-frills Hare Krishna run vegan/vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Melbourne. It's similar to Gopals just with less options. Basically, it serves a set lunch and dinner menu, with a different meal each day of the week (Moday to Saturday). For example, Monday lunch is Satay Vegetables with Basmati Rice and Raisin Halava & Custard dessert. Monday's dinner is Chickpea with Vegetables in Pumpkin Sauce served with Cous Cous and Apple Crumble for dessert. The daily menu consists of two courses along with a cordial or lassie. The best part is that it's an all-you-can-eat! It's also both eat-in or take away. Crossways is not a fancy place. It's a no-frills restaurant serving inexpensive but healthy meals that are like home cooked. The service is very friendly and the staff very courteous and most helpful.

I love this restaurant. The vibes, the greetings, the music and the smiles. This restaurant is an experience for under 10$ . Wow that is simply fantabulous. Simply putting it this way. The similar experience would cost you anywhere between 25-60$ depending on what you want. The food is delicious, cooked and served with love and we can eat as much as we like. Plus the sweet desert served is amazing as well. As I said this restaurant is an experience. For students it is 7.5 to dine in and 8 for take away while 9.5 for dining in and 10 for take away.

Absolutely amazing little find! The food was incredible, the staff were lovely and you can’t beat the value for money! We had 2 servings of delicious curry’s with rice and poppadoms, followed by dessert! All of the main courses were vegan and, although the main dessert was vegetarian, they also had a vegan alternative (apple crumble for us!) which was delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for delicious and great value vegan or vegetarian food in the city centre!

  • 5/5 Shaun M. 4 years ago on Google
Best way to spend $8.95, food was really tasty and not greasy! When we went they were serving two different curries and rice with popadums which was all vegan and two different dessert options, one vegan apple crumble and a vegetarian sponge with custard. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and didn't mind us going up for seconds as it was irresistible. Would 100% recommend and will definitely return!

An excellent spot for vegetarian and vegan meals. Food is 🆓 flow cafeteria style - take multiple helpings if you can eat more. You pay a flat rate of $9.50 per pax, which includes food, drink and dessert 🍪. Menu varies daily, and also differs for lunch and dinner. Portions are generous and the food was well cooked. It was filling and did not cause food coma or hunger pangs all the way til the end of the day. Would come 🔙 here again if I return to the area. Convenient, quick, affordable and healthy.

I was very impressed. They have set menus with all you can eat for just $9.50. It was a huge plate so I didn't actually need more anyway. I came on a Wednesday. It was a chickpea curry. Very tasty. Heaps of rice paired and to follow an interesting little cherry dessert with a very sweet custard. Slightly too sweet, but for $9.50 overall whose complaining?! Two sweet drinks to chose from. I tried both. The white one was quite yum. The orange one was cordial. The staff were very friendly too.

  • 5/5 Snigdha P. 8 months ago on Google
Delicious food and a fantastic price! We paid the full fare ($9.50) for a rice and curry meal, with dessert and drinks included. Fair enough to say that we were all feeling very full afterwards! The service was quick and the staff were friendly. The layout of the restaurant makes it hard to accommodate for larger groups - aside from that, a very enjoyable experience. Looking forward to dining here again!

Insta: melbfoodie_mark YT: MelbFoodieMark ** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne! - Didn't expect to stumble into this cozy venue after getting a haircut! I was surprised to find out that it was only $8.95 for a meal. Its setup reminded me of a high school canteen. I went on Tuesday so they served "Red Kidney Beans, Brown Rice, Peach Halva & Custard". Considering the price, portion was definitely generous - you can have as much rice and curry as you want! I also really enjoyed this relaxed communal ambience of the venue. In terms of taste, it was slightly bland in comparison to other curries I had before. But it wasn't that bad since I could taste freshness of the ingredients - tasted healthy as if they were all homemade. Not to mention, Indian custard dessert was surprisingly flavourful! Overall, it was a simple but delicious hearty meal. I'd visit whenever I crave something healthy and affordable in the city :)

Cheap and tasty meals and a classic dessert that reminds me of being a child growing up in the U.K. I always stop here when in the city and need something cheap and healthy to eat. Atmosphere is relaxed and inviting with videos of spiritual leaders and documentaries on the tv in the eating area.

Tasty vegan food at affordable price, what more could I say. The thai green curry and rajma masala curry was my favourite because they arent heavy like the general thai curry that is loaded with coconut milk but you could taste the distinct thai green curry and rajma masala isnt spicy and salty.

Sometimes you want to eat healthy but tasty food and a lot of food, and don't want to spend a lot of money on it, places with all of these filters on are really hard to find, This one is one of those places. The food is very simple, it's healthy, tastes really really good and doesn't take much out of your pocket. They have different types of curries for each day which are served with rice and papodums. The flavor of the curry is always amazing. I always end up wanting more and more of it. The good thing is you can have as much as you want. But the best part is the custard and raisin halava. If you like sweets you will fall in love with it. It is the Best. When you take a bit with custard and Halava on your spoons it just melts in your mouth and creates such a soothing feeling for your taste buds that they want more and more of it. I always have to resist myself to stop eating it. The Vibe of this place is always happy and calming. I think if you are in the city and want to try something cheap and good, this is the best place to go.

Yes, all the positives are correct. But what about investing a few thousand dollars in some flywire screens so that the sparrows don't come in and eat your food? Or employing a staff member to clear the dirty plates off the table so the birds don't settle in for the duration? I have voiced all this to the manager some weeks ago. To what avail? It's been obvious for months

Been coming here for over 5 years now, and enjoyed every meal I've eaten! Their conjoined Urban Yoga studio upstairs was terrific. For 6 months or so I enjoyed a complimentary meal with every class. Beautiful place to sit and read a book, have had great conversations with others. Very grateful for the animal and environmentally friendly lunches (ask for the vegan desert). Those who cook and serve at the counter are always kind and generous. Thank you, Crossways.

A simple ambience, with the most welcoming and friendly staff/volunteers. Buffet style: main course, drinks and a dessert! Menu: a different menu for everyday of the week. A pocket friendly, delicious & wholesome meal indeed :) #Vegetarian #Vegan
