Food was good ink squid spaghetti was the highlight not too heavy but tasty. However, the waiter was just rude from the start, he made us feel like we were a nuisance to him and that just killed it.. many other restaurants as good food and treat you well. Reply to the business that you pride yourselves on great service, I guess only for customers that you deemed good etiquette means ordering your wine list or 3 courses meal or something? because we did nothing wrong, we were not rude. Yea definitely not coming back, coz your so called "great service" was horrible.

Great service and pasta. The textures and flavors were amazing. The rabbit pasta dish I thought was slightly overpriced at $34, for the portion. The seafood pasta was a great price for the portion. Overall I would definitely come back on occasion.

An awesome farewell dinner for my friend. She leaving and this dinner couldn’t be any more perfect. Prawn linguini were absolute delicious, we basically love love to sharing everything, the steak look well cooked, pretty juicy and tender. Also the tart of the day, yummm~ love that texture and the flavour, not too filling after the dinner . Service was definitely the next level!!

If there were a way to give this place more stars I would! This is a wonderful little place, big enough to be welcoming but not so big its overwhelming. The staff are incredible, friendly and helpful and happy to have a laugh with the table. The food is quite simply outstanding. Our starters were a trip to flavor town that has to be experienced to be believed. The mains were of similarly high standard, a decent sized portion that filled you and the flavor of the food is just incredible! Good, locally sourced ingredients and then turned into awesome food. Loved it and will be back!

Rosa’s Canteen - Baked ricotta w heirloom tomato, red onion & oregano $24 - Casarecce w beef shin ragu $29 - Special: Pappardelle w pesto, basil & nuts Found a hearty Italian restaurant with Sicilian influences in the city. Every single dish we had was exceptional. The baked ricotta was light and well-seasoned. Best to pair it with a good glass of wine. Their pasta was textbook perfect, so al dente 🤤. The special pappardelle is definitely something to die for! The freshness from the pesto and basil complimented so well with the earthy and crunchiness from the nuts! It was a mouthful of joy! The ragu was equally flavourful and that beef was super tender. Absolutely worth revisiting!

Oct 2022. Was catching up with friends hadn't seen for years so wanted nice restaurant, preferably Italian, where there was no 90 min booking cap like so many places these days and a friend recommended Rosa's Canteen and so glad she did. The 6 of us loved it. The 2 vegetarians shared starters of whipped ricotta and fritti misti (vegetables) while the meat eaters shared calamari, meat croquettes and we all had olives. Mains 2 vegetarians pastas (mine was linguine pesto) 2 meat pastas and 2 rabbit! Rabbit! With side of artichokes. Desserts, cannolis, tart of the day (cherry and hazlenut), dessert of the day (similiar to tiramisu) and gelato (blood orange, pistachio and zabaglione). Drinks, Proseccos, Champagne and beer. While coffees, well okay they only serve traditional Italian drip coffee so no soy decaf for me! I did try their traditional but way too strong for me. Also had their Italian cola which was average. Our waiter, Tatsi was very good. Total approx. $700 so at higher end. So yes would return but only for a special occasion. Note, did not like the facilities at all.

This place is quite tucked away, so one has to be quite deliberate about coming here. A friend chose it from some research and a hankering for Italian. After some Googling and help from the staff on unfamiliar types of pasta, we placed our orders and settled back to wait. The squid ink spaghetti with seafood was tantalising from its unusual flavours. The pasta was just right, not al dente or too soft. My friend's Casarecci with beef ragu in a Napoli sauce was flavoursome without being overly rich. We finished the meal with a combo of Gelati, the most interesting being the Cinnamon scoop. The space is simple and comfortable with a great atmosphere from a tasteful music selection. Staff were helpful and attentive throughout the visit and even helped us with the group pics. This experience had the right vibes for us and is worth repeating.

The food was OK - salumi starter was nice and the chestnut pasta something a bit different. Everything else seemed a bit under-seasoned...even in the desserts the cannoli filling was not sweet at all and didn't seem to have any taste. It would have been fine, but giving it 3 stars because the service could have been better. As others have commented we felt like an inconvenience, bordering on rudeness.

Really great Italian restaurant in the heart of the city. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic customer service. We were served by a very friendly bald man (sorry!) and he was fantastic to deal with and made us feel very comfortable. The entree was the best croquettes we have ever had, and the homemade pasta was delicious. The tart special, mandarin and custard, was absolutely a standout and honestly should be a permanent part of the menu, it was amazing. Have already told family that we will be bringing them all here for the next family birthday!

A hidden gem! The restaurant I wanted to go was full and I opted for this one. I think it is overlooked because it is not central as others. I am giving a 5 stars because I wanted a healthy dinner and the waiter helped me select amazing plates. The chicken was wonderful and the sauce that came with it was a touch of sweet because of the red peppers. The plate of zucchini and cheese was a nice side dish to accompany my chicken.

The name of this restaurant isn't that fancy, and it's located at hidden spot (first floor inside a building). BUT the food is on par with all other fancy names restaurants out there. Excellent service by Bradley, explains very well what's on menu and all his recommendations were yummy 🤗

Nice atmosphere and the waiter (guy) was attentive. The food was ok. My friend's spaghetti was better than mine. I ordered a tagletelli with prawns and it was a bit bland. And we ordered a few sides to share. Apparently they change their menu seasonally. The only thing that annoyed me was an older lady. Right after we finished our meal, I felt like she was trying to rush us to leave. The restaurant is not that busy and it wasn't too late either where there were still other patrons there. She came twice to our table. The first time she came was to clear our table and was murmuring something then just took away the plates and second time running to our table and said are you finish? Coz we had our glasses there. When my friend said no, she looked annoyed and left.

(Translated by Google) There is no common spaghetti that Koreans know, and most of the menus are unknown. Be careful when choosing a menu. I can't taste spaghetti with sardines. (Original) 한국인이 아는 흔한 스파게티는 없고 잘 모르는 메뉴가 거의 다 임. 메뉴 고를때 신중함 필요. 난 정어리 들어간 스파게티는 입맛에 맞지 않음.

Nice little Sicilian place tucked away in small laneway. Food is meticulously prepared, but a little pricey for what it is. Squid ink pasta was perfect, but the prawn pasta was a tad bit over seasoned

Such a wonderful atmosphere! The food is super authentic and delicious, I can taste the care that Roza instills into all the parts coming together. From starting with the antipasto platter featuring zucchini fritters and homemade olives, to finishing the meal with the most decadent whipped ricotta and pistachio cannoli, Leah, Dave and the team are smooth and attentive to all the details. Everyone around seemed to be having a great time too. What a joy to share in the ambience and nourishment. Thank you!

I booked lunch at Rosa’s for my wife’s birthday. The food, ambience and service was amazing, and made for a very memorable experience. Rosa was friendly and very personable, and her passion for food and life was most refreshing. She took us through the menu and made great recommendations. We even learned a few things about the various dishes, about Sicilian cuisine and even it’s history. We started with fish in saor and baked ricotta with heirloom tomatoes. Each bite of both dishes was sensational. For mains we had Sicilian style rabbit with paccheri tubed pasta, and chicken salmorigio with marinated zucchini. Both were delicious. The rabbit, was light and the aromatic herbs from the chicken tantalised our senses as it was being lowered onto our table. To complement our mains we had a celery, radish and pecorino salad. For dessert we had cannoli and a fig tart. Both were exceptional. Every dish was presented beautifully. The menu is seasonal and as such will change. Given that every dish we had was a 10 out of 10, I don’t think you could go wrong selecting anything on Rosa’s menu. We left completely satisfied and are looking forward to returning again.

Relaxed casual atmosphere with delicious authentic Italian cuisine. Only slight gripe is they are so authentic they don’t make any lattes, but small matter and staff were very polite and friendly about it. Gave us the right amount of time to select our dishes without being pushy. Would definitely return!

My wife and I went here late one evening with our two year old looking for somewhere nice that would accommodate kids and we weren't let down. They didn't have a high chair but it doesn't seem like that kind of place, quite contemporary but it wasn't an issue . Service was excellent, very friendly and great with the little one. Food was great also, pasta cooked to perfection and the peach ice cream was probably the tastiest ice cream we ever had. Would highly recommend a trip to Rosa's, tucked away down a lane it's a hidden gem worth digging out.

This has to he one of the best places to eat in Melbourne. The space is beautiful and minimal with a lovely vista into the trees. The service was sone of the best we’ve had anywhere in Australia. And the food - so delicious!!! Everything was fresh and tasty, and it was wonderful to watch Rosa work her magic in the kitchen. They even make their own amaro! Be sure to pick up Rosa’s cookbook as well - fantastic!

I don't know how this place is not packed out every night of the week. It's a real gem on the west side of the city. I had very high expectations because a friend who has been there about 5 times in the past year had hyped it up a lot. The venue is beautiful... Perfect in summer with the big open windows and view of the courtyard. Pasta was delicious although a little saltier than I would like. Food was not overly rich and was not the kind of pasta that leaves you feeling uncomfortably full after. Flavours are fresh and taste like really quality ingredients. I was really looking forward to a balsamic panna cotta but it wasn't on the menu the day I went :(

My fiancé took myself and our 3 month old out for dinner last night for my birthday. We both have been wanting to come to Rosas for quite some time but haven’t found time to get there. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed by Rosa, sat down and offered water. She broadly went through the menu, the wine list and completely explained the specials which was extremely helpful as you know what it’s like when you go to Italian restaurants. She answered all our questions perfectly. I was so impressed that she found the time to exclusively go through the menu with us while still being able to cater and help anyone else in the restaurant. She done such a fantastic job and made our experience “my birthday” so special. Once our order was taken we got given beautiful bread, olive oil, salt and pepper which was so nice while we waited for entrees. The food was more than amazing and the serving size was great! Water was always poured into our glass and we were always asked if we wanted more drinks off the wine list. And most of all - the wine list stayed on the table which is my absolute pet hate when I dine and I can’t read what wine to try next!! So thanks for not walking off with the wine list!! You ticked every box!! Thanks Rosa and her wonderful staff. 10/10 from me. We will be back!!

We went there for lunch. Ordered some this king like tomato based slow cooked pork and seafood spaghetti and vegetables. The spaghetti is unique and tasty. It’s taste just nice but my friend said it’s too salty for him. Pork and vegetables are good and normal. Actually sourdough can be better. It’s cold and very hard. If it’s toasted or warmed up then it could be better. Their staffs are friendly and nice! Overall it’s nice environment and good food.

Awesome food and service ! Edit: visited this restaurant again 2 years later and while the service and atmosphere remains good. The food left me alittle disappointed. Perhaps it's the change of menu? But I didn't really like the chicken as it was alittle dry in my opinion. The raveoli was good in a sense that it does not get too heavy towards the last few bites. The squid ink Pasta was good though I preferred the other Pasta dish which wasn't in the menu anymore (it's exactly like the squid ink Pasta dish just that it doesn't use any squid ink Pasta)

I walk-in with very casual attire, perhaps looking a bit worked up too. Yet, I was somewhat treated like royalty. Food is above average. Can tell they really try to perfect the amount of acidity in each dish.

Authentic and flavourful, with Pasta that was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be going back on my next trip to melb. Only criticism was we felt from arrival that we just seemed to be an inconvenience for our waiter. But at the end of the day the food was great and the rest of the staff were lovely.

From the moment you climb the stairs in Melbourne’s Legal quarter off Little Bourke St & enter this cosy modern canteen, you sense something special is possible. The someone responsible, is the legendary Rosa Mitchell in the kitchen. But her influence doesn’t just radiate over the culinary delights prepared by her team it extends to the staff who provide the flawless service. All in all a delight!

Delicious food and excellent service. What’s my definition of excellent service? When the staff go above and beyond to ensure your experience is suitable to your needs. Upon learning I am taking part in Dry July, a swiftly prepared non-alcoholic version of an Aperol Spritz appeared before me. (A very stark contrast to a different restaurant a few days later who suggested I have a soft drink.) 10/10 👌🏼

Rosa Canteen served up the best darn meal of my trip! The pasta was hitting that sweet spot, and the lamb? Well, it practically wrote a love song as it melted in my mouth. Now, about our maître d —I can't remember his name, but he was like the James Bond of service. Smooth, not overly warm, but you could tell he treated that restaurant like his secret lair. He was attentive and caught on that we wanted a pic and made it happen without us even asking. Talk about a service ninja. My only feedback would be, it seemed like we were rushed to leave the restaurant with cleaning the table while we’re still seated and brought the payment immediately even tho the restaurant was not full.

Great service super friendly. We were quite loud as we haven't been out for a while but they staff was never rude to us and were patient with our group. We were able to socialise comfortably. We apologise if we were a bit loud, we never felt judged lol. Super friendly Food was soooo good! The pasta is very fresh, tasty lots of umami. Fish was so fresh, antipasti was yummy too we had the calamari and asparagus.

The food was great venue and the service was great too, until I noticed, next morning, an added cost of a glass of Chary, that I neither order nor got. I don't check my bill at the time of payment, as I would like to think that the charger is as honest as I am.

Had dinner on V day at the restaurant. Loved the natural lighting. Dishes ordered from starters to desserts were excellent!!! Couldn’t fault any of the dishes. The squid ink pasta dish is a must order- i loved the light flavours of the crab and light bouncy fresh pasta. The king fish carpaccio and octopus as starters were beautiful dishes. Green beans with tomato sauce as side dish - another winner- loved the fresh flavour of the sauce 🤤 . My bf had the tagliatelle with rabbit. A bit gamey for me personally but the tomato sauce from the green beans was a great side dish for it. Hope u Enjoy your night as much as we did! 😋😋😋

Home style Italian with a Sicilian focus. A lot of menus claim to have a seasonal focus but here, Rosa, Clair and team are out there weekly foraging and sourcing the best of what's on offer. A beautiful, light and airy space invites a longer lunch. Always some thoughtful and solid options by the glass to pair.

Came here for a business dinner with a colleague - close to the hotel in a typical Melbourne winter downpour! We didn't have a reservation, but found a table - possibly a little lucky, as it got pretty busy later on a Tuesday evening. We shared entrees of calamari & the salumi plate - both were excellent. My tagiatelle rabbit ragu was excellent - unlike some restaurants, theye didn't skimp on the meat. My colleagues found his prawn pasta was also excellent. Had execllent service as well - just the right level of attentiveness to make sure we didn't have to wait, without feeloing like we were being pushed out the door. Great place to spend an hour or so in nice surroundings, with great food and good service

The food here is a fantastic reminder as to why Melbourne is a foodie capital of the country. The calamari entree was fresh and a great start to our late dinner. We then shared the prawn linguine and the ragu pasta. Both were delicious and flavoursome. I would give this place 5 stars if I could however the con here is that you cannot take away unfinished meals. I am not sure why this is the policy. If you visit, be sure to arrive with an empty stomach and do not over order.
