Rice Workshop Melbourne

Restaurant Japanese restaurant

😐 Food is quite cheap, restaurant located in Chinatown. I ordered the beef curry and Udon katsu chicken. I remembered coming here years ago and food was so good but i just came back on December 2022 and food was just basic, nothing special, just affordable. People often mention chicken, good, curry, bowl, beef, rice, sauce, Japanese, quick, Rice,

LOVE this little restaurant. I stumbled upon this restaurant in 2016 because I love matcha and wanted to try the ice cream. It did NOT disappoint. Seriously one of my favourite ice creams. The rice bowls here are also excellent, this time I enjoyed the Katsu curry with tempura prawn and an egg. There was nothing to fault as usual. This place is well priced, the staff are helpful, and it’s in a great location. Always love coming here when I’m in Melbourne.

SUPER DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH In the salad got a MOLD and SLIME LIQUID. Super dangerous for customer's health. The onion in beef rice is uncooked due to its cutted too big and stick together. Meal taken in Highpoint shop

Cheap but you get what you pay for, uninspired and bland flavours you get at all the cheap Japanese takeaway shops. Asked for mild curry but got spawn of satan level heat. The Udon soup base was so hot that by the time it has cooled enough to be eaten all the ingredients were soggy mush. Probably won't return to this particular store.

I ordered the chicken katsu curry with medium spice. It was ok, but nothing special. It was didn’t really have the full body flavour of others I’ve had elsewhere. Still, it is reasonable for a quick bite to eat.

The staffs at Rice Workshop Chinatown are friendly and recommended their signature dish for us so we bought and tasted them. It was quite a disappointment. The grilled chicken curry rice was not hot . In fact, the curry sauce was moderately warm and poured onto the cold grilled chicken. The grilled chicken was tasteless. The chicken karaage was good but the sauce is too little . Overall, the food was not as good as expected.

I was really pleased with the food at Rice Workshop Melbourne. It was both tasty and cheap, which is always a great combination. The chicken teriyaki was my favourite dish - it was cooked perfectly and had a great flavour. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good food at a reasonable price.

The food is so tasty. Inspired me to make my own food at home. It's good place to eat when you are hungry but you don't wanna line up in other restaurants.

Flavoursome and hearty soups and sides on offer here. I enjoyed the steamed veggie noodle ramen and chilli edamame. Basic interior and service but good for a quick meal.

When you're in a rush for a quick meal. You can always rely on Rice Workshop for a good fast Japanese feed. The food is tasty and quick. Not the best Japanese food but for the price and efficiency it's good value. The way the restaurant is layed out makes it awkward to order food and pay. If it gets busy the line can get really cramped. Overall still would recommend :)

Fastest Rice Workshop in the southern hemisphere I would suggest. Order your food at the far end, collect and proceed down the counter to pay. Friendly service and served up in two mins. Good size portions. Limited seating down stairs but they have seating upstairs. I ordered the spicy chicken terriaky and all was well. Well priced. Will return again.

Over the years, we've been here many times as a good place for quick bites. Order at the counter, collect your dishes and pay. Today I had the Wagyu Beef rice bowl with Teriyake and Truffle Mayo, plus a stick of Takoyaki (octopus in dough balls). The beef was tender, well coated with the deliciously sweet and creamy sauce. The dish was rich and comforting on a wintry day. The Takoyaki needed some sauce, however, which was missing. This place is bustling all hours of the day. The additional seating upstairs help with the overflow from downstairs. Staff interaction is the same as most takeaway places. No doubt there will be a few more returns for a no frills, cheap eats meal where we know exactly what to expect.

Simple, fast but good food with affordable prices. No regret. Atmosphere can be rather deceving. But overall GOOD.

I got the ox tongue with teriyaki and truffle sauce. The rice bowl had these thin, tender cuts of the ox tongue, which had a good beefy flavour. The sauce is amazing too, and you’ll love it especially if you like truffles. Together, the ox and the sauce pair really well and it was really tasty. At $17, the price is pretty affordable even though it’s one of the most expensive item on the menu, so it won’t break your bank. Do come here for affordable and tasty food in the city!!!

We decided to give Rice Workshop in Melbourne a try after seeing its high ratings on Google. However, our experience with their ramen fell short of expectations. The broth lacked depth and flavor, resembling more of a diluted soup with noodles rather than a hearty ramen. Compared to other ramen dishes we've enjoyed elsewhere, this one left much to be desired, earning it a modest rating of 2.5 out of 5 star.

Wide selection of options. The Karaage rice bowl was tasty and filling. Good sized serving for the price. Paid an extra $5 to get a side dish and drink. The green tea soft serve is a nice sweet treat for dessert or snack. An additional $0.50 to get a waffle cone for your soft serve which is worth it. Quick, efficient service. Additional seating upstairs if there is no space on ground level.

The staff are friendly and the food is great! I had a salmon rice bowl and some kimchi that I totally enjoyed. If there was something I wish they cook work a bit more on it would be the toilets as they were not that clean.

Food is cheap and the food was really nice! Had a large don, with side and drink and it was only 18 dollars. Perfect for a uni student like me, will definitely come back

Good place with delicious curries. Tried the noodles with vegetables and the usual Katsu bowl and it was awesome! Good food with reasonable prices

I decided to try out the chicken katsu curry - they give the option to choose the level of spiciness for the curry (from none, mild, spicy and very spicy), so I chose to have it spicy! The order arrived a lot quicker than expected; however the bowl was mostly rice & only a little bit of curry with 6-8 pieces of popcorn chicken. Even though I ordered the chicken katsu to spicy, it wasn't spicy at all which was a bit of a shame. The flavour was a little bit mild, but it did have real vegetable chunks. It seemed like the staff were having a bit of trouble directing food to the correct people, as they weren't taking names! Payment for dishes at this restaurant is at a separate section to the place where you order, but you might recieve the dish before you pay, so make sure you pay before you go! Or pay if there's someone at the payment station! The price is okay, but I was (personally) a little bit underwhelmed with the food I was given

Visited RW for the first time. Based on the reviews I was expecting good things. Feel it’s a bit overrated. Food was okay and was somewhat acceptable if in a hurry or no other options available. Food was made quickly, but almost too quickly which makes you question how fresh the food is. Quality of ingredients is questionable - I had some weird cabbage in my dish and didn’t eat it because it looked dry and gross. Wouldn’t rush back in a hurry.

Great place for quick and tasty Japanese food. The main dishes were clearly the highlight here and had good portion size, with options for going large. However, the side dishes are bit lack luster.... The interior is interesting looking with the window seat facing the road to be the best in my opinion, not a big fan of the music though... I would also be a bit cautious getting the "Wagyuu" beef, then again what did you expect from a fast food restaurant.

Vegan Katsu Curry wasn’t very good. Crumb was nice and curry sauce as expected, but the mock chicken itself was disgusting. Very slimy and mushy, but also quite chewy at the same time. Not pleasant. With all the chicken substitutes out there these days, they can do better.

Maybe I just chose badly but don't get the udon with (vegetarian) tonkotsu broth - was closer to Continental packet soup with almost no veg or other things added. Better places around for the same money!

Nice spot for a quick Japanese feed. The katsu curry is a favourite. The offer right now is to add a drink and side for a great bundle. The store has two floors, and great portions for eating in. Check it out.

The first floor was a bit small but there's more seat on the 2nd floor so that's alright, but the noodle it self is just a total disappointment. I got myself the beef udon with original broth and the broth have zero taste like the chef forget to put the seasoning in there

Fast food Japanese. We went based on Google reviews and were sadly disappointed. The atmosphere was non- existent. We ordered downstairs and had to go upstairs to eat. It was very warm with only one window to open. All the chairs/benches were wooden - no cushions, no artwork to speak of. The food was edible but nothing to write home about. Drinks were cans or bottles - no tap water even available. Parking is expensive as it's all paid parking in the CBD and we were visiting from country Victoria. No kid options.

Another cheap beef bowl with generous serving. I had their original beef bowl and fried squid skewer. The skewer was surprisingly YUM! I’d try all different fried skewers should I return. The beef bowl was okay., beef was tender and a bit salty. The plus points are extra condiment (all kind of sauces) that you can get for free. From simply mayonnaise to spicy sesame dressing. PS: CASH only when < $10

Quick Good fresh food, very flavourful and big portions. Help your self condiments with Mayo included for free!

The atmosphere and service was not much, BUT the food was amazing and so affordable I don't even care. We ordered two chicken katsu curries and beef gyoza. Our curries were ready almost straight away and there was a short wait on the gyoza. Everything was amazing and quite authentic to the food we ate in Japan. The beef gyoza were so delish. There is a serve yourself sauce & condiment area which is always nice. My criticism is that there is not any real cutlery, only single use items.
