Incredibly disappointing. The taste of the dishes was extremely mediocre and portions were small. Very overrated place. The ceviche was disgraceful. I'm no expert but that's nothing like the dozen or so ceviches I've had before. 4 slices of fish in a red pink sauce. See image attached. Ordered 5 dishes, none of which were mains, and four drinks and the total was $256. The drinks were decent but overpriced as well. $30 for an old fashion. Will never return or recommend. If you want better flavours, atmosphere and prices, head to Harley and Rose.

Great service 👏 good food even though we didn't like the beef, barely touched it and had to return because sauce tasted weird. I got wrong flavored drink served but the waitress was actively willing to fix the mistake. She took the beef back and asked if we want anything else. We ordered second round of pork belly and fish tacos 🌮 because they were delicious. Definitely recommended to have those. Octopus was a bit plain but we still ate it. Corn on cob was good too. We didn't get charged for beef which is nice because we didn't eat it. At the end, we were happily surprised that the second round of tacos were complementary as well even though we didn't ask for free food. So, well done on customer service 👏 thank you

I love Mexican so was very happy to try Mamasita for a Sunday lunch, note very discreet sign on Collins St. 4 of us shared guacamole and tortilla chips then I had sweet potato tacos, husband had squid flatus, friends had corn on cob and we shared cauliflower with green sauce and they also shared pork belly which being vegetarian I certainly didn't have! Food was excellent and I'm glad I'd gone to gym as I ate heaps! Drinks, we had red wine, Mexican beer, soda water and sparkling wine. However 2 white sparkling available by glass on wine list so I asked which was dryer, they brought it out and it was not a sparkling but they said it was a natural sparkling which translates to no bubbles so the what now? I've ordered sparkling in easily a 100 different restaurants and I've never heard of this before. Anyway other then that, the service was excellent, and the seating was comfortable but venue was quite dark and we were there at 1pm and all the lights were on so...

Hard to go wrong here, great service, good food, excellent vibe. We had the corn along with lamb, fish, and pork Tacos. All of them were good but the pork taco really stood out with how juicy the pulled pork was. Also recommend adding the jalapeño sauces as they were great.

The service was great and the interior of the restaurant was nice albeit dark. The food was overall pretty tasty. I loved the Tuna tacos and the Lamb birria tacos. The Kingfish ceviche was also really tasty but it came out at the end of the meal which was a bit confusing. The beer battered fish tacos and the Lamb shank were a bit dry but the drinks were great!

Went here in a whim for lunch yesterday and so glad we did. Really nice dining room and modern Mexican menu with plenty of well priced options for all tastes 🇲🇽 We started with some oysters and corn then I followed that up with the pork belly tacos and Stacey got the special which were mushroom and cheese quesadillas 🌮 All the food was excellent, the tacos we really well flavoured, plenty of filling and the fresh presser tortillas were superb 👌🏻 I think this place would really shine if sharing the mains, and indulging in some of the fabulous cocktails on the menu for which we will certainly be back to try 🍹

What a stunning place! This is my first time in Melbourne and my partner did a great choice to start our foodie journey in Melb. We ordered Feed Me#1 Mamasita Classics course and it didn’t leave us disappointed. My absolute favourite was Confit Mushroom Tostadas and OMG, I am not a vegetarian, but if all vegetarian food tasted like this, I would be just like ‘sign me in’. And the cashew cream, I don’t know what they have put in it, but this must be somewhere near crack, it’s so delicious and addictive I couldn’t put the tostada down. Another great surprise to me was Elote, the magic they did with Chipotle Mayo was fab. Overall we felt so full and could’t finish Beef Brisket although it was so tender and delicious. Staff is very friendly and made us feel welcomed. Water was always topped up and they made sure we weren’t out of napkins. We were looked after very well.

My company and I were very disappointed by our experience at Mamasita. I went there with two of my friends, we had two vegan degustations and the normal meat menu. We ordered our food a couple of minutes after 8pm. By 10:45pm the last dessert still hadn't come out. There were 5 courses, so the wait time in-between the courses were over 30 minutes (at one time we thought they just forgot about our order and asked if it's still coming). The food for the meat eater was fine, the vegan options were - in lack for a better word - sad. In one of the courses (two different kinds of "dips" with some sort of cracker) the non vegan dip was just taken out. Something similar was done to another course - overall just less variance in the food compared to the meat menu. The most disappointing part though was the main. It was a cauliflower steak, both of our steaks were burned and tasted smokey and bitter (it's pictured in the photo). We didn't eat more than a bite, the waiter came and asked us if there's something wrong, we told him it's burned and inedible, he just said: oh I'll bring out the desserts then. We didn't get an offer for the main to be replaced or recooked. The desserts took over another half an hour to come out, and only one of them came out (a second one arrived at our table but the waiter took it away and brought it to another table, we were very confused). The other two never came and shortly before 11 we had to leave (still hungry) as we had a reservation for drinks somewhere else. We obviously never thought we would spent three hours at the restaurant waiting for food so we had to leave and couldn't wait for the rest of the desserts to come out. The cucumber cocktail was good though :')

10 years ago mamasita was one of the coolest restaurants in Melbourne, with decor, vibe, food and price to match. These days, I’m sorry to say it’s a sad shell of its former self, with each element of its prior glory reduced to a withering husk. The decor is now as inspiring as a boarding school lunch hall, the vibe on a Friday lunchtime was flat (although they staff were really cool and friendly so I’m glad that hasn’t changed), the food lacked any real standout flavours or textures, and thus the price no longer reflects value for money. The meal pictured was over $50 and wouldn’t fill someone with a modest appetite.

Great fancy Mexican food. Good atmosphere. Most tables are bar tables with stools, which isn't a problem, unless you really care about traditional chairs. Really friendly and helpful staff. Food came promptly and was hard to fault.

Mamasita Mexican Restaurant is awesome! It's in the CBD and super easy to get to with the tram stop right across the street. The food is amazing, and they're crazy fast! Even when they're super busy, they got our food to us in just 5 minutes. Make sure to book ahead though, so you don't miss out. Abbey took care of us, and she was quick and super friendly. Plus, the prices are reasonable. Just a couple of things to note: there's no disabled access since it's on the first floor with lots of stairs, and the lighting could be brighter.

Visited Mamasita to experience the Chef's Banquet. Initially seated at the bar, we requested a shift to a normal dining table for comfort, and fortunately, they accommodated our request, addressing our concern about the high bar chairs. Despite my friend running late, the efficient service ensured we enjoyed the set menu within our limited hour. Menu highlights: Pacific Oysters: Impressively fresh. Guacamole with Tortilla Chips: Deliciously satisfying. Elote: The softest corn cob, reminiscent of childhood street food. Grilled Prawn Tostada: A refreshing delight. Kingfish Ceviche: Although okay, lacked the expected incorporation of sauces, making it somewhat bland. Beef Brisket: Delicious, with the spicy chimichurri complementing the brisket perfectly. The house condiments allowed for DIY tortillas, but the generous beef portion made it challenging to finish. Chef's Salad and Pasilla Potatoes: A satisfying conclusion to the set menu. Overall, a positive experience. Mamasita's CBD location, just behind Parliament Station, adds to its convenience.

Long standing Mexican restaurant at the Paris end of Collins St. Great service and atmosphere but menu and food itself a little tired. Most dishes were ok, but there was nothing exceptional, apart from the extensive Mezcal and Tequila menu.

Honestly I didn't enjoy this at all. Extremely overpriced tacos. The menu has three mains, Lamb, wagyu and a pumpkin dish. We tried to order the lamb but was told it was only available in a set menu, not available as a separate dish. So we thought about ordering the set menu so we could try the corn and Lamb. Surprise, the corn was not available in the set menu that night, but you could order it off the regular menu. Corn was luke warm when they brought it out. Might have been an off night for them when we visited, but I won't be back or recommend it.

Delicioso! What more can I say? Tacos? Si. Mole? Si. Margarita? Si. The food was amazing, couldn't ask for more flavour. The drinks were beautiful and packed a punch. The staff were incredible, speedy and attentive. The space was beautiful, while the ambience made the experience unforgettable Will return 100%

Staff were wonderful. Great selection of wines. Atmosphere is lovely. Food was good at best, somewhat bland and quite disappointing. Beef taco was terrible with a weird tasting sauce (inedible), pork taco flavour was good but overly fatty and oily, lamb shoulder was quiet good, dessert served with the banquet was boring. The best thing we ate was the corn on the cob. I remember coming to mamasita some time ago and had great memories. After my recent experience I sadly wouldn’t be back. Such a shame for the staff as they are so lovely and professional.

Visitor from Sydney here, visiting Melbourne quite often but usually have something quick and easy around Swanston/Flinders. This time, decided to try this restaurant as many guide suggested and I feel I should try something that “Melbournian” have. Also, a great Mexican food should bring me back a good memory when I was in Cancun many years ago. Sat at the bar as I came alone and really want to keep the table for a bigger party. The staff were lovely and service was good although a bit annoying as two ladies sat beside me seem to chatting and playing with staffs most of the time, fair enough, they might be friend with them, or, they might be extrovert and socialise people which the bar is well accomodate them. However, I feel like I wasn’t taken care well enough even though I just came here for a “nice” dinner, not sure if other customers at the bar feel the same or not. Also, the music quite loud which makes communication a bit struggle. Then the food, here we come, the reasons for one star. The menu wasn’t catered very well for non Mexican experts, come with various jargons and Spanish words. This might be good for upscaling the restaurant but it’s quite confusing and really have no idea how the food is (PS. English is my second language, it might be OK for others, I don’t know) The food quantity is not that worth for the price tag. Your guys are a rip off. I feel like I have been scammed. 18 bucks for 2 very tiny tacos, 15 bucks for 2 very tiny wrap of grilled squid (?? I don’t know how to call as the menu issue, already mentioned), and 7 bucks for a tiny bowl of prickles and assortments. My initial plan to enjoy the nice meal here is over and I need to have some pizzas around Swanston Street after that to fill my stomach. Anyway, the drink is OK and worth the price. The coconut milk with cinnamon is a good match and taste really great.

My favorite restaurant and watering hole in town. The people are the sweetest, and most of all VIV is the sweetest. If I could rate her 1 to 10 she’d be 100, and if I were starting a restaurant she’d be the first person I hired. Atmosphere is “happening.” Food is exquisite— the birria tacos are the best I’ve had outside of Texas. And the drinks are generous pours—ask for the extra spicy margarita or they made my favorite— ranch water — tell them to make that for you and you won’t regret it. Ranch Water. A Texas staple.

Mexican food that never fails to disappoints! I’ve been here twice and the Birrias and fish tacos here never disappoints! Waiters are friendly too but that’s almost a given with a such a long running establishment like this! 10/10 will keep coming back here every time my Mexican craving kicks in!

To start off, the servers were really lovely. Everything else - so bad. Mamasita would be my #2 worst restaurant that I’ve been to in Melbourne. My stomach actually feels queasy right now. We had a booking at 20:15 on Oct 11 (today). This is what we ordered: *Esquites! - no bueno *Guacamole and chips - no bueno *Butternut tacos - no bueno *Fish tacos - no bueno, was extremely lacking in flavour *Lamb Birria tacos - was half decent *Pork cutlet - no bueno and so dry *Kingfish Ceviche - average *Seafood cocktail - no bueno, it was an extremely strange concoction. It did NOT look appetising, and it was NOT. *Hawkers Sour *Strawberry Delight My friend joked that the salada crackers that came on the side of the seafood cocktail was the best thing from the entire list above. To be fair, the strawberry delight cocktail was really decent. It’s like a “wannabe” upscale restaurant, but just a big miss. I told a male server that the pork was not good and he just asked why and my friend told him it’s really dry and then he just kinda walked off. We could see that he took our plate to the chef in the back and the chef trying it - and then nothing. We paid a total of $212.55 and I would definitely never come back and would never recommend.

Overall fantastic, only one drawback. Entree: corn, delicious. Worth it. Main: pork taco- tasty, but kinda oddly over greasy. A bit drowned in sauce/juices presumably from the cured onions Drink: smoky margarita- just plain old solid. Service: excellent. Fast friendly and attentive. Highlight. Worth the visit :)

Great tasting authentic Mexican food, the lamb tacos were delicious, so tender & the sweet potatoes tacos also & full of flavour & spice & their corn chips were like no other corn chips we’ve had in any Mexican restaurant. The service we couldn’t fault, very friendly staff with a great atmosphere. A must try when in the area - or not in area, we loved it!

Mamasita has been at the top end of Collins Street for years and is consistently great. We didn’t need a huge lunch and went with the fish tacos where the smoky chipotle was just delicious, corn on the cob, guacamole and our favourite dish - the mushroom tostadas which were mind blowing. They had a layer of cashew cream and the mushrooms were thinly sliced and marinated in something amazing. Definitely worth checking out.

Mama still got it....after 9 years! I came for a delicious meal with some colleagues not long ago. My last visit was apparently 9 years ago, but a first for my colleagues. Where did time go? Mamasita still maintains her high standard of food and hasn't disappoint. The waitress was friendly and talked us through the menu patiently. My colleagues and I took turns to order different items to try, and we left happy with full stomachs. The guacamole was fresh and delicious, it made up for the store bought chips (wink wink to the chef, it'd have been so much better with freshly made chips), we also tried the pork belly and braised lamb. They were both beautiful and flavorful, the lamb was a tad over salted, but the pork was crispy and melts in your mouth. Then we ordered a few tacos and were perfectly happy with them. We ended the meal with various desserts and a coffee martini. It was an enjoyable meal and highly recommended as a treat.

I love Mexican - I mean, who doesn't? 🌮 But I'm often left underwhelmed by it. So many places claim to be THE BEST...and they set you up with lofty expectations, to leave you very disappointed when they are not even close to being good. This place IS the best (or at least VERY close to). In any case, you won't be disappointed. Everything was delicious. EVERYTHING. Not a single dish left me wanting for anything...except more of it. If you enjoy a Margi, I highly recommend the Jalapeno/Cucumber 👌🏼 Don't miss the mango habanero salsa either 🤤

Ordered Horchata (rice milk with condensed milk vanilla and cinnamon- is a quite unique drink For entree we got Elote; which a corn on the cob with chipotle mayo and queso (was expecting a unique taste but it was mediocre), Flautas (squid braise, squid ink) We also got Frijoles accopanied with corn chips. We like this one We tried their tacos as well (roasted sweet potato, beer battered fried fish - taste was mediocre and braised ox tounge- the ox tounge was a bit too oily but have nice flavour.

I think the current average stars is fair. I would agree with 4.3-4.5 stars. If I could score partial stars I would. Came in for lunch on a Friday. It was relatively quiet. Ordered the Flautas and Kingfish ceviche as entrees and one of each taco for the main. I wasn’t a big fan of how they made the ceviche as it was not swimming but drowning in the dressing. The waiters were struggling to deliver the plate and clear the plate without the dressing spilling. To their credit, they did a relatively good job there. The flavors were nice but I felt it lacked a bit more zest. The tacos were on point. They were delicious and fresh. The only taco I would not order again is the sweet potato as the pecorino was too pungent for my liking. But if that’s to your liking definitely go for it. We didn’t try any of their cocktails but they looked very enticing. Will have to make a note of doing so after work hours. I would recommend visiting. I also feel this is a great date night venue too.

Oh MAMA have you tried Mamasita before? It is NACHO average Mexican joint! On the menu: 🌽 Elote - sweet corn on the cob, chipotle mayo and queso 🌮 Roast sweet potato tacos with salsa criolla and pecorino 🍄 Mushroom tostadas with confit mushrooms and cashew cream 🧀 Chilli cheese flautas - fermented green chilli, papas, oaxaca queso 🥙 Roast cauliflower with mole verde and charred peppers, served with house condiments and hand pressed tortillas TACO'bout incredible food! Both times I ate here with vegetarian friends and we smashed the entire vegetarian menu. Delicious! 🤤 You have GUAC to try the sweet potato tacos, they keep the skin on, creating another layer of crunch! 😯 And not to sound CORNY but the corn on the cob was a real winner ⭐️ Sweet and saucy and a little spicy, it's a-MAIZE-ing! 😱 TORTILLA recommend this place, keen to try their other dishes and dessert! Be ready for a bit of a mess though, all the sauce really can get JALAPENO face! 🤭

We were lucky enough to contribute in the Mamasita at home event during lockdown and it did not disappoint! All the food was so delicious and was provided in a way that made it so easy to prepare for serving. The Smokey margaritas were also a winner! Would definitely do this again if the opportunity comes up!

10 years ago this place had the best fish tacos and everything was abundantly fresh with rich flavour. Last night, we tried all 5 tacos and unfortunately none of them were standouts. The flavour was lacking and the price was high. The food was served efficiently which was nice. The cocktail was delicious. The service was okay - we had to ask wait staff for more water, for a menu and then again to make an order. All staff were very pleasant people. This used to be our favourite place when we lived in Melbourne and we would have loved to give it a higher rating, but the food and the price just wasn't how we remembered it.

it's a very nice place, the food is very fancy and super good and the music is great there, not too loud and very good atmosphere. I recommend "the agua de olchata" it's the best drink I've ever had!! (it's a sweet rice milk drink with a little cinnamon and ice cubes) it goes very well with the meal 💯!!!!

This quaint tucked away gem is well worth a visit. The food was an awesome mix of flavour with the Tuna Tostadas and the Ox tongue tacos being a couple of my favourites. You have to try the corn elotes too they're are delicious. Aside from the food, the drinks menu is an encyclopaedia of Mexican treats. With dozens of Mezcal and tequilas to choose from as well as yummy cocktails and some amazing spirits from around the globe you could spend hours trying new drinks without having the same drink twice. Thanks for the great night Mamasita's, we'll be back!

Mamasita is a solid Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed our meal and the cocktails. The tuna starter was nice but nothing to rave about, the tortilla chips with guac was good too but again not blow your socks off. We enjoyed the fish tacos and the pork belly main, again nice but similarly not the best I've ever had either. Service was prompt and friendly. Please note that the table bookings are 1.5 hrs and they ensure you stick to it. Again that's fair enough but if you want a longer sitting ensure you ask.

We always try to make it to Mamasita's when we are in Melbourne. The food is fantastic. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices. The drinks are great. Awesome selection of tequila and mezcal. The staff are so friendly and attentive. But make sure you have a booking, this place is always full.

This review is from our visit in early February. I usually love Mexican food, but somehow did not like the food here very much. Not very flavourful or fresh. But the one thing I absolutely loved was the mushroom tostaditas! So good! However the service was great.

Went for the first time tonight and enjoyed it! Nice restaurant and atmosphere, super friendly and attentive staff. We got the ceviche which was good but not amazing, probably would skip next time. Fish tacos were massive and super tasty. The potatoes with vegan mayo were a bit plain but filling - would skip next time. The beef short rib was incredible! The crab tostaditas lacked flavour which we told the server. All in all it was a nice meal and I’d go back and try different things (and get the fish tacos and beef if they were there next time - it looks like the menu has changed quite a few times?) Recommend to add tortillas to the beef short rib to make it more filling :) Food was also super fast, we were in an out within less than 1 1/2 hours. Oh and the wine was lovely!

We got the banquet and a lot of margaritas, food was Incredible and filling. The service was also great, very accomodating of my allergies. It was on the expensive side, but if you go in knowing this, then it makes for a really nice date night.

Came recommended to me by friends and family. We walked in and noticed mostly men in suits. Didn’t have a reservation and got one of the last tables. No nachos on the menu. But the tacos were the best we’d ever had!! High ceilings, quite sophisticated mexican bar vibe. Table and bar seating available. Service is very friendly. I recommend everyone to come here. It’s hard to find mexican this good in Sydney. Came back a year later with my mum and dad and didn’t like the corn tortillas, prefer flour. Mum doesn’t like coriander haha We even got adventurous and tried the goat tostadas! They were great! My favourite; Grilled fish tacos with achiote, red onion salsa, cabbage, lime and chipotle mayo - such amazing fish tacos! $7

Amazing! Will be back and try more stuff! Love the tacos and our server (long hair guy, sorry I forgot to ask your name) is so attentive and even make sure I was ok with the food as I’m pregnant! Marvelous! Top notch service. Also we did ask about their famous corn ice cream and he made it happen for us! Such an amazing dinner. Thank you again and again! He deserves a reward!

We were told the hightop table would be a squeeze for 7 people, but we sat comfortably. Food was a bit pricey for the portion sizes received but I guess that's what inflation gets you. Aside from that the food was sublime with the venue having a great atmosphere.

Absolutely fantastic, innovative food. Our party included 2 vegans, 1 coeliac and 1 person who eats everything and we were able to enjoy a delicious selection of shared plates together. Somewhere I will go again and again. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, even when adding the dreaded question “Is any of your wine vegan?”, which they were able to answer straight away and with confidence.

5* for food. Food was so good. Very tasty and well made. However, service was pretty poor. Tables are reserved for 2 hours. We arrived 15 mins late at 5.15 and informed the table is booked out for another party at 7pm. Nothing wrong with that at all. After ordering the first round of drinks, the waitress was over to us trying to take our order while we were trying to get settled. Food came out quick which was great but plates were getting cleared as we were still eating other dishes. It didn't seem like the waiters/waitresses had sections as we had 3 or 4 different waitresses asking the same questions to us in quick succession. At the end no desert or drinks were offered which was a shame as we were interested in a desert but in the end decided to pay up and go to a bar near by to have some final drinks before our show. All in all food was great but service really needs looking at. I can see from reviews I am not the only person that felt rushed during a meal here. They just need to slow down and relax and most customers understand that there are time limits on tables and will stick to them. Felling rushed isn't great.
