Me and my partner hadn't been out somewhere nice in a long while so this dinner was a welcome release. After apprehensively walking down some stairs we found ourselves in a very nice, dimly lit (in a good way) restaurant. We sat down and ordered some cocktails which were amazing. We ordered the meatmaiden mood (may not be the exact name) meal where we get a selection from each part of the menu. All the food was amazing, the steak and brisket we had for the mains were perfectly cooked and tender. All the sides and entrees were equally great. On top of the great food and vibe, the staff were great, our waitress was super friendly and stopped a couple of times to have a good chat. We will definitely be back.

Our group had dinner at Meatmaiden on our last night in Melbourne! It was definitely a meal to remember. I'll miss it when I'm back home. Delicious food, at a reasonable price. Love the ambience of the place too. Do make a reservation before coming.

I didn't want to like this place for some reason, but ended up loving it anyway. Great service, interesting and delicious cocktails, tasty food. Tatare was great, perfectly cooked steak with a good char, hand cut chips, lobster mac and cheese was delicious. Dessert crepe was amazing. Overall a fantastic environment, fast service and lovely food. A little on the pricy side, but worth it.

Extremely pleased with my meal here. The star of the show was the burnt ends and lobster mac and cheese. If you get anything, make sure it is those two dishes. I would give the brisket a skip, I don’t think they do this well compared to a full blown American barbecue restaurant. The steaks were also cooked to perfection, but of course, this is personal preference and they didn’t actually ask me how I would like my steak.

Had booked this place for a 50th birthday and it delivers in food, atmosphere and service. My only gripe for the evening was I had booked this weeks in advance for a 50th birthday and the booth table near the toilets was not a nice ambiance to a otherwise special evening:

Meat Maiden is one of Melbourne’s best American-style steakhouses, tucked away in a hidden basement! 🤫 Everything here is top quality, from the food to the service to the moody vibes If there’s one thing you must try here it’s their dry-aged steaks (which you’ll be greeted with as soon as you enter) 🥩 The dry-ageing is done in-house and their famous rib eye is seriously some of the most flavour-packed cuts I’ve tried 👌 Perfectly cooked with the most incredibly char on the outside 🤤 Another showstopper is their 20-hour Sher Fi Wagyu Brisket 🥩 cooked so tender that it literally falls apart! The sweet and sticky coffee bourbon sauce is the perfect match to this fatty cut 🙌 The Roast Bone Marrow is definitely not your ordinary bone marrow - topped with a wedge of raclette cheese and brûléed with a crispy sweet caramel top 🧀 highly recommended! Featured: 🌟🦴 Roast Bone Marrow ($18) 🐙 Charred Octopus ($22) 🌟🥩 Wagyu Brisket ($46) 🌟🥩 500g Dry-Aged Rib Eye ($88) 🧀 Lobster Mac and Cheese ($40) 🥦 Roasted Cauliflower ($18)

Starting off with the the bread and beef fat butter, we were blown away on the very first bite. The burnt ends, mac n cheese and hand cut fries just whets your appetite with divine flavors and heavenly textures. The aged beef mains were fantastic on their own and did not need any sauce/gravy.

Had the Maiden mood set meal with 6 friends. You all need to order the meal or no one can have it. Burnt ends were delicious. We added lobster Mac and cheese which was rich and creamy. The brisket was a little disappointing but the steak was cooked to perfection and juicy.

We had a booth when we dined at Meatmaiden and the wait staff were kind enough to wish us a happy anniversary. The food was lovely and our ultimate favourite was their brisket - amazingly cooked and the flavours were fantastic. We were also pleasantly surprised with their iconic lobster mac and cheese. everything was just so nice and filling we had to take the leftovers home! The ambience was also quite nice. However The waiter assisting us didn’t give us a lot of time to look at the menu before coming back to ask for food and drinks. Also at the end of the night, we waited a bit at the host station to pay and as the host was coming back, another couple randomly came up and were seen first which we felt a little unfair but really wasn’t damaging to the night.

Took a trip into the CBD last night to see Harry Potter with the girls. Decided it was time to visit @meat_maiden and wasn’t disappointed. First course was scallops and bacon, lobster mac and cheese, and burnt ends. Mains were brisket, New York strip, and pork ribs with a side of baked cauliflower. The lobster mac and cheese was the standout winner but all the dishes were superb. We sat at the bar because there were no other seats. While the bar stools were pretty uncomfortable after an hour the advantage of having servers right in front of us made up for it. Even better, they were great company too! Prices were a bit high but within tolerable limits. Most importantly the value was there. They delivered the food and the service in spades. We ordered way too much food and left food in the plate. I nearly cried. The show was great too!

Terrible service especially since it was for a birthday occasion. Rudest staff known to earth that absolutely judged us even when we were properly dressed and ordered quite abit. Not asking for the coats or even saying welcome. Got upset that we didn’t order drinks and gave attitude when we brought a birthday cake that we were more than happy to pay the cake fee for. I’m sorry but slamming water on the tables everytime for a refill and to even knocking the glass to spilling without apologising and not changing it is horrible. The food was okay at most but clearly you had a huge abundance of sugar and salt stock cause it was either too sweet or salty or just plain cold meat. If the service is this bad, don’t even bother coming. Get a grip and do better because paying that much for service when the food is also mid is embarrassing. Honestly we were just ready to go and leave after eating and tried our best to just deal with it

During these turbulent COVID times, you'd think a restaurant would understand that if someone is a close contact and needs to test and isolate, that they are simply unable to make their booking. Apparently, Meatmaiden would prefer you to go to their restaurant while potentially positive. Don't bother booking with these guys, you'll risk being charged $50 per person if you're in the unfortunate circumstance of being positive/close contact/symptomatic. Do not recommend.

Must Try - Despite sounding like nothing special, the Grilled Bread turned out to be the hidden highlight of the menu. Definitely a must-order. We also had the Burnt Ends (tad bit too salty for our liking), Wagyu Brisket (another must for brisket fans. Fatty and tender, while still holding its shape. Perfectly executed brisket - probably the best I had in Melbourne!), and the Pure Black Porterhouse (very nice flavour 👌). For sides, we had the Charred Greens (another hidden surprise, it was wayyy beyond what we expected) and the Lobster Mac Cheese (yet another Must-try, also available in half-serves if you ask). Overall, will definitely return just for the Grilled Bread.

Amazing food and cool vibes as you enter. We ordered the Burnt Ends for the starter which exploded with deep complex flavours, followed by the 400g Dry Aged Rib Eye which was cooked to perfection accompanied by the Lobster Mac Cheese which blew our tastebuds away. Highly recommend a visit.

The meat at this place is amazing. The brisket was so tender, juicy and flavourful. We ordered the chef’s selection menu and it was great. A few okay things were that some dishes were overly salted, some dishes (salad, mac & cheese, oysters w/watermelon ) were just mediocre. If you love oysters, just get the regular ones, they were really good. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is great as well.

This place has great sides and dishes. Their only weakness would probably be their steak - however it's still at 8/10 steak. Great tenderness and beefiness on their steaks, cooked well, however slightly underseasoned. The standout here are their sides and other dishes like the Mac and cheese or their ribs. Super tasty, full of flavour and all have great textures. Would definitely come back here for the sides and other dishes. Service was fast, very attentive and had great reccomendations. The ambience here is also very nice. One minus is that this place doesn't have any internet or mobile reception since it's downstairs so some WIFI would be nice.

Had a great dinner experience here with my colleague. The oysters were surprisingly rich - highly recommend it. Ribeye was perfectly cooked to medium rare as well.

Went to dinner as a group of 4, got many plates to share, everything was delicious and had generous portions. The highlight was 100% the cauliflower and burnt ends The staff were so attentive and friendly. The music in my opinion was far too loud so we had to yell over other diners just to hear each other. Overall a great experience

I am definitely not a meat lover but this restaurant made me finish my dishes very clean! The one I had was so tender and it was a perfect medium rare. The sauce I chose, 3-pepper sauce was so good. And please, please try the Lobster Mac and Cheese for your side !

Love the vibe, great menu, service good. Only downside was I ordered medium rare for my rib eye and my partners rump, the waitress said she wouldn’t do less than medium. Found that odd and then the steak came out a bit charred on the outside for my liking. You can even see the difference in char between the two steaks, both medium. Lobster Mac and cheese divine. Overall good but strange when paying $55+ for a steak that you can’t have medium rare.

Best place for steak. The menu changes regularly but the steak is always good. I wouldn't recommend getting too big a steak as I find the larger steaks are often cooked unevenly. Not a fan of the smoked meats either as the ones I've tried were dry. I suggest asking for the steak to be sliced for sharing so that you can try more dishes as they always sound good. The lobster mac n cheese is pricey but the portion is large for a side dish, and the flavours are there. AND it comes with extra sauce. They also make a pretty good Amaretto Sour, if you're into that.

The last supper again? Dinner before the lockdown #5. Lively underground prohibition style restaurant with the best brisket EVER, get the brisket!!! We opt'd for Maidens-mood which included 3 starters, 2 mains and 3 sides. We added the extra to get the lobster Mac and cheese as well as the shaved truffle. Cocktails were amazing, esp the pisco disco. Every dish was outstanding except for the steak which was tough and dry, bit disappointed... The brisket, did I say get the brisket? It just melts in your mouth, done to perfection. We probably wouldn't order the lobster Mac and cheese next time as personally found it a tad sweet. The side chips, if you like it chunky this place is your calling. Overall, loved this place, we will be back...

Great service and friendly staff! The Dry-Aged O’Connor Rib Eye was our favourite as it had so much flavour and was cooked to perfection. My partner and I assumed the sauces would be on the side however when they were brought to our table, they were on the steaks instead. In saying that, unfortunately the three pepper sauce was far too overpowering to actually taste the Sher Wagyu Rump. Overall, great experience and will definitely be back!

Excellent service. The food was amazing as were drinks and staff were on hand to ensure your water was topped up. Wagyu rump was cooked to my liking, medium as per the chefs recommendations and was perfect, juicy and had a nice crust. The signature lobster Mac and cheese was brilliant….I can see why it’s the signature, probably the best Mac and cheese I’ve had. Even if you don’t like seafood, try it. It’s not “lobster” heavy but as a bisque it adds an amazing flavour to the dish.

Dining in the dimly lit, underground setting was a captivating experience. The food was outstanding, and the ambiance added an element of mystery to the meal. The fresh oysters were briny and refreshing, setting the stage for the perfectly cooked eye fillet steak, which was juicy and tender with a satisfying sear. However, the standout dish was the lobster mac and cheese, with its creamy texture and generous lobster chunks adding a decadent touch to the meal. Overall, each dish offered a delightful balance of flavors, making for a memorable dining experience.

This was dinner last night for my husband's birthday dinner (steak is his favourite meal) For entree we both had the grilled octopus- 10/10 , extremely delicious Mains - Porterhouse steak for my husband and I had the Barramundi. My meal was again 10/10, perfectly cooked fish, delicious sauce and the fennel just yum yum! However my husband's steak was not cooked to his liking and a bit tough. I was disappointed because we came here for him 😪. Atmosphere- VERY loud, the tables are super close to each other and very dark with very little lighting. You have to switch the flash for those insta photos which can be a little annoying for other people. Staff were attentive and were nice. Even she asked me if I could hear her when she was trying to explain the dishes.

I came here last night with my partner for my 25th birthday and it was one of the best restaurants i’ve been to. The waiters were beyond exceptional, the food was incredible and the cocktails topped it all off. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu and would highly recommend for those who can’t decide between all their amazing dishes or aren’t big eaters (although it’s still a lot of food, we couldn’t finish it). We will absolutely be returning and couldn’t recommend Meat Maiden more to those looking for an intimate dining experience

This place is incredible! surpasses my expectations every single time without a doubt. Food is 10/10, service is 10/10, the vibe is 10/10, and a massive thank you to our amazing host SIMON!! He is very educated and always picks or suggests options for us, which have never let us down. This is perfect for date night or any special occasion, or simply if you just want a high quality feed and amazing steak. The sides are exquisite also. Thank you to Simon and the amazing lady at the front desk who always make our experience divine. Valentine’s Day at Meat Maiden was sensational, I can’t wait to return! :) I wouldn’t take the time to write a review like this if it wasn’t truly amazing.

Rib eye w three pepper sauce - Eye fillet w wild mushroom sauce - Mac and cheese - Charred greens - Hand cut chips - Stuffed chicken wings - Milk chocolate cookie w peanut butter icecream This is a MUST try restaurant if you are a steak lover, and my #1 pick in Melbourne. First impressions were amazing with a basement setting, neon lights and moody dark lighting. Service is impeccable and personable. The steaks were so perfectly cooked and full of flavour, as was every single dish we ordered. I dream about that cookie. Get everything!!! ⭐️ 5/5

Fantastic food, I’ve been to most smokehouses and their brisket is hands down the best. The set menu is the way to go, lots of food and you get to try everything. Pork head croquettes were also a standout along with there cocktails. Highly recommend and would come back.

Darren one of our waiters was great. New York strip w beef fat bernaise was out of this world good, miso cauliflower & cocktails were all yummy. Music and atmosphere was pumping very busy and definitely not a quiet romantic dinner. However will def go back for that steak and will recommend to others.

Great experience at Meat Maiden, our server was absolutely lovely and very helpful/knowledgeable about the food. The food itself was great and came out reasonably quickly. The only negative was when I went up to pay, the lady on the till wasn’t too professional to her staff and was pretty blunt to me. Otherwise awesome place!

  • 5/5 Vicarious J. 5 months ago on Google
Every plate of food came out in a timely manner and was delicious. Can't really fault any of the dishes served. Atmosphere was great. The server we had was professional and courteous. However, the only criticism I have is the behaviour of other servers I witnessed that gave a sense of arrogance that was unwelcoming. An example of this, was when we had finished all of our food, a different server decided to clean our table whilst we were still seated finishing our drinks. And when I asked "Do you mind?", she turned and walked away and didn't say a single word. Note: We were well within the time frame given for our booking. All in all, great place for a great feed. Definitely recommend it.

Meatmaiden is one of my favourite steak houses! This was my third visit and every dish was a highlight. Entrees were delicious! The beef tartare is one of our faves in Melbourne. We decided to take a gamble and deviate from ordering a steak from the grill. This was one of the best decisions we could have made. The special of the night, caramelised short ribs, were rich and complemented by the pickled cabbage. The wagyu brisket was fatty and so well cooked (which is rare to find in Melbourne). The steaks are great, but if you have a chance to try the mains, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The sides are equally delicious. The miso cauliflower in particular is to die for. Service is impeccable. The gentleman who served us was great. We were also running late; and not only were they able to accomodate us - they upgraded us to the booth when we originally booked the bar. Great date night spot. I would also recommend coming as a group so you can try as many dishes as you can.

First of all, the food was fantastic. Loved every bit of it. Staff were absolutely supportive, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. Environment is romantic and inviting to dine with nice table arrangements and dim lights. Location was awesome as if you are dining in an old wine cellar.

This place is an absolute must-visit! I can't recommend it highly enough. The quality of their steaks is unparalleled, cooked to perfection every time. The ambiance is elegant and inviting, setting the stage for a remarkable dining experience. The service is impeccable, ensuring you feel truly pampered. If you're looking for a place that serves mouthwatering steaks and provides a top-notch dining atmosphere, this steakhouse is the perfect choice. I strongly encourage everyone to come and savor the incredible flavors here!

Excellent! The lobster Mac and cheese is really special, I love how generous they are in both size of the meal as well as the quantity of lobster on it. My partner said it was the best Mac and cheese he ever had in his life, so definitely a big statement here. Steak was also excellent, perfectly cooked. The octopus was a bit too spicy for me, but this is a pretence thing. The burnt bits also a very good call.

Oh man, what a night! The service was hands down the friendliest and most attentive we’ve had, the food was utterly delicious, the rib eye just melts in your mouth, and the sides are a great companion, must try the Mac and cheese. The ambience was also great. This place isn’t cheap, especially the $14 fries, but very well worth it

Such a cool place located in the lower ground level of a building. I’d highly recommend the unassuming bread on the menu which is the best thing I’ve tasted in a while. The burnt ends was flavorful and soft and the 20hr brisket was melt in your mouth tender. The dishes are on the hearty side, so come with a big appetite!

Thought this would be a super meat heavy menu restaurant but was pleasantly surprised with not only their variety, but the quality of the variety! We did the festive food menu and it was so worthwhile for both the value and quality - we also ended up with very full stomachs too! The service was so friendly and we will definitely be back again at our next chance! Favourites were the scallops, sticky lamb and lobster mac and cheese!

Amazing service, the waiting staff truly make you feel cared for. Steak and sides were all also extremely well crafted and high quality. Lobster mac and cheese is very filling and definitely enough for two people. Burnt ends was fatty and tangy. Porterhouse steak was very large and very tasty.

I went here a couple days ago to have dinner and seated in the booth table. Everything was perfect, excellent customer service as they were friendly and welcoming. I ordered steak and some sides (mac & cheese and chips) together with alcoholic drink. Food was incredibly delicious except for the pepper sauce, it was too peppery. What has caught my intention was the smokey alcohol drink, it was my first time having that kind of drink!

Fantastic experience all around. The food was amazing, especially the appetizers. We dug right into our entrees, so no pictures of those. A little tricky to find--the sign outside is small, and then when you go inside you have to take stairs or the elevator down to BR. WORTH IT.

MeatMaiden is an absolute classic for steak lovers. Every time I've been there, it has been a memorable experience. Their Lobster Bisque Mac & Cheese is a must-order dish that combines the best of both worlds - succulent lobster and creamy mac and cheese. It's honestly worth coming here just for this dish (and as it’s a creamy lobster bisque Mac and Cheese, you can skimp out on ordering more sides.) Their vegetable dishes are straightforward, focusing on simplicity rather than fancy preparations. As for the steaks, they have a rotating selection of dry-age options, some with a unique funky taste. If that's not your preference, the O'Connor Porterhouse on Bone is always a good pick. While I can't comment on their non-beef options, I'm confident that MeatMaiden's commitment to excellence extends to their entire menu.

The best steak speciality restaurant in the heart of Melbourne CBD for sure. Located underground, the dimly lit open dining area is perfect for "lean in" conversations. The steaks are well seasoned and the char from the intense heat really shines through. The bread is also a must order.

Interesting place, a restaurant with a meat / steak focus in Melbourne cbd. The drinks are great and there is a lot of options when it comes to cocktails beer and wine. The food was decent but just a little too expensive probably about 10-15% too much. It is good but not that good. I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The service was good and attentive.

We ordered the bone marrow appetizer, brisket and dry aged steak, with chips on the side. All was great, although the dry aged steak wasn't as good as expected. Also they poured sauce on the steak; although delicious, it kind of beats the purpose of enjoying the flavour of a dry aged steak. Also worth mentioning that the cocktails we ordered (I think it was the Pisco Disco and bacon sour) were both 👌

Not bad for Saturday night. Simple menu. Extensive list for drinks. - well done. Start with the ROAST CHICKEN CROQUETTES - it was ok. Burnt ends tasted nice. The big stake was really good. Surprisingly all sauces were delicious, but still opted for the hot English mustard. Also had the brisket which was a bit of a let down. Somewhat too tender and it was just not to my taste. At the end we had the RUM CREME CARAMEL, SMOKED PINEAPPLE & LIME SORBET. Full of flavour and life. Could be served in a patisserie.

The food was absolutely incredible! We picked this place, mainly to try the oysters. The barbecued oysters were a delightful surprise, surpassing the natural ones in taste and flavor. The roast beef bone marrow was a sweet and flavoured treat, perfectly paired perfectly with the toasty bread, making it perfect a sharing dish. But the real MVP tonight was the roast cauliflower. We never expected to receive a whole cauliflower, perfectly cooked and smothered in a creamy sauce. It was a true delight and added an unexpected twist to our dining experience. Overall, this place exceeded all our expectations and left us with unforgettable flavors. Highly recommended!
