Carlton Wine Room is so much more than you think. It’s true, it is a Room in Carlton and there is Wine there but that’s just where it begins. The food is pretty darn good, but I think it is the service and atmosphere that shines. The wait staff are friendly, they understood Dirk’s special needs and not only are they knowledgeable, they can really help to make your night a great one. Thank you Wine Room.

This has got to be one of the best spots in Melbourne. Great food does not have to be unnecessarily fancy or over complicated, Carlton Wine Room has consistently proven that with their thoughtful menu and perfect execution. This is my third visit and definitely not my last. So glad I got to celebrate my birthday here with amazing people and beautiful seasonal spread. We ordered the set menu as it had most of the items we were going to order anyway. Warm & friendly table service, kitchen pacing was fairly quick as they had to dish out everything for us to finish within the allocated booking time Loved the stracciatella with focaccia especially

Carlton Wine Room delivers in every aspect! The venue and ambience is perfect for a romantic dinner to catch up with friends. You can relax here and just enjoy it. The staff that are friendly, knowledgeable, attentive but not in your face, allowing you to enjoy the food, company and venue. The food is of such a high standard and consistent across the menu, you will not be disappointed here at all. It's a well thought out menu the flows and works with each dish made to share. The food is light but filling and flavoursome, eating here brings joy. The wine list is great and perfectly matched the food. This is an absolute gem and exactly what every dining experience should be. I cannot recommend this place enough and I'll definitely be back to experience the seasonally changing menu.

Looking for an exceptional dining experience in Melbourne? Look no further than Carlton Wine Room. The food is superb - creative, inventive, and perfectly executed with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. And the service is amazing - attentive, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Always wanted to visit, but usually other people have the same idea and booked first so definitely try to get a reservation. Over two floors, ground floor with its high ceilings and large windows definitely had a more clean and grand look whereas upstairs has more of a cosy vibe to it with moody lighting. Food was amazing - anchovies on fried bread, fried potatoes, olive oil cake were some of the highlights. Service was lovely and attentive, sommelier recommended a great red from Austria to go with our steak and roast chicken. Would definitely go again.

a relaxed yet classy wine bar, you'll feel luxurious and treated well, but also so cosy and at home. the vibes here a wonderful. we came for a lunch on monday are were greeted with the most friendly staff and beautifully crisp skin-contact oranges. the menu was hard to choose - all options sounded like perfection! we greatly appreciated the option to have half serves of the dishes, meant we could try more! we loved the snapper, unsure of the lentils at first but they seemed to match perfectly especially with the nutty pistachios. the anchovy toast are famous for a reason, and please do not miss the stracciatella! so much fun for the eyes to stir and even more for the mouth to eat! we loved every moment here, not one bad thing to say. thankyou carlton wine room!

Carlton wine room lived up to the hype! Food was well balanced and had interesting flavours, the wine was great and service also outstanding. The staff were very kind to send us a glass of champagne and dessert for a leaking aircon - it was very thoughtful and appreciated ☺️ The vibe is great for a date night or a casual catch up, it has that fluid energy you can make your own. Can’t wait to come back!

Overall good experience, good starter and pasta dish. But Roast chicken is undercooked and still raw and bloody near the bone which is very disappointing, although the mushroom source is good.

The reviews are true. It is one of the all time greats. Excellent service, wine and food. The starters are out of this world. The fried bread with anchovies and pickles is so damn good. Those scallops bring it home 4x over. I'll be back many a time. Thanks again

I have been to the Carlton Wine Room multiple times and will continue to come here and bring new friends and family with me. Each time I come it has never failed to disappoint me and the waiters have extensive knowledge about the wines and food that is served. My favourite dish is the Scallop Tostadas which is a must for me every time I come here. I have not had one meal item that I disliked and am thoroughly impressed by the quality of food and the plating of dishes. I am a pescatarian and there are so many seafood options and even vegetarian dishes.

Could not find a fault. The service was friendly and efficient. Lovely wine. Amazing food, both original and super flavoursome. - anchovy was well balanced on the crispy fried bread with the ricotta and the cucumber. Flavours worked so well together. - raw scallop tostada melted in my mouth. Couldn't pinpoint the ingredients in the mixture on top but again well balanced with the scallop and tasty. - octopus was delicious, very surprised how tender it was. Salad was delicious. Potato added a nice texture to the dish. - spiced cauliflower and chickpeas were another surprise, an explosion of flavour. - snapper in a ?curry-like sauce. Smelt amazing, tasted amazing. I sometimes worry that fish dishes can be a bit bland, but this dish was so (so) good. - wagyu was perfect. Sauce was lovely. - winter greens were nice. Price was very reasonable considering quality and quantity of food. My new favourite restaurant in Carlton. Can't wait to be back. Highly recommended.

Honestly one of the best places I’ve tried in Melbourne. Amazing food, amazing wine but more importantly, amazing service. All the staff here are so attentive, approachable and know their stuff. Would 120% recommend for a lunch or dinner.

Well welll well. One of the best feeds we’ve had was at Carlton wine room. Service at the start was a little slow but quickly adapted. Food was insanely good and wine list was top notch. Will be back for sure. Bravo 👏

Amazing restaurant for a special dinner with family, friends, or just an intimate one on one experience. The staff were really lovely and informative on their wine and menu. I loved that they let us know that they do half portions for some of their plates and also their glasses of wine. We got to try more food and paired our wines with them. They are also really accommodating to dietary restrictions. A lot of the menu incorporates dairy and they have substitutes for almost all of them. Skip the bread, it’s very average. However the rest of first bites on the menu are delightful and I would encourage you to try them all. We tried the Waygu rump cap with their garlic confit potatoes which was very rich but incredibly delicious.

What a wonderful experience. Food and wine pairings from the experts we're spot on. Food was exquisite too. You could tell that so much time and refinement has gone into the dishes we sampled here. We will be back to try the other half of the menu for sure. Superb! 🍷 Sometimes you go to a place like this and the dessert is lacking too. Not this time. The olive oil and lemon cake was yet another highlight.

FOOD QUALITY - very good. RANGE - narrow, but enough options to satisfy most. VALUE/PRICING - expensive, with modest portion sizes. SETTING - good and typical of the area. SERVICE - friendly and efficient. WINE LIST RANGE - very good. RETURN VISITS - probably, but pricing will be an inhibitor.

Carlton Wine Room offers delicious dishes and an extensive wine selection. While the food is fantastic, the service could use improvement. Staff is friendly but could be more attentive. With a bit of refinement, it has the potential to be a stellar dining spot.

Had an EOY dinner for 5 and it was all our first time. The summer menu was absolutely delicious. The scallop was perfect with some crunch and the mushroom was so tasty. The calamari and peas were so fresh. I would definitely come back for the stracciatella alone! Potatoes were perfect. Pasta, well cooked. Rump Cap in butcher’s sauce was also to die for. No faults! We want to come back ASAP to try everything else we didn’t order.

Best wine bar ever and in Melbourne. Various and wide selection of wine and comfy atmosphere with amazing and superb staff. We had a bottle of white wine- Riesling so unique and sophisticated scent- I was 10000% satisfied. We had another glass of red wine which was also divine & great👍👍👍 We’ve started with anchovy&lentil with pistachio and cured snapper which are the must. Pork&duck croquette was heavenly with lots of flavour. Wagyu rump was so tender and juicy with harmonious sauce with grilled cos. Fried potato with mustard- my parter was so surprise and thrilled about it, which I am totally on the same page. Sooooooo good so we cleaned up the dish. Definitely recommend this place. We’ll be back for next dinner 10/10 !!

Couldn't fault it, from the food to the service it was just the perfect long lunch we were after. We took our time and there was no pressure to clear plates away and dishes were timed perfectly. The food itself did not disappoint, the small bites were just as delicious as the main serves. Look forward to returning.

Exceptional wine list, menu and service in a simple elegant dining room. We popped in for lunch on a Saturday without a reso and we happy to be seated at the bar. I was stoked to see a loveshack pale ale on the menu so started with that while we made our way through the menu and extensive wine list planning our adventure ahead. We ended up trying a bit of everything and were expertly guided in both food and wine by the friendly staff behind the bar. Every single plate delivered on taste. Standouts being the stracciatella, the duck and pork croquette, and the wagu rump cap 🤤 This restaurant is an absolute gem that should be at the top of everyone’s list.

Visited only once but hope to visit again. Food is delicious and homely. Party drank wine and there is a nice selection. Atmosphere is not too noisy with several dining levels (can't attest for the first floor with the bar). Staff are attentive and willing to display humour. Accommodating for cake - don't remember any cakeage fee. Mid-pricey side but again was worth it as it was delicious! Also accommodated for dietary requirements.

ORDERED: 🦪  Appellation oysters, lime vinaigrette ($6.00 each) 🧇  Anchovy, fried bread, ricotta, pickled cucumber ($9.00 per piece) 🧇  Garfish, gribiche, rye ($9.00 per piece) 🧆 Duck & pork croquette, gentleman's relish ($9.00 per piece) 🐟  Raw kingfish, pickled fennel, creme fraiche, dill ($32.00) 🧀  Stracciatella, pickled mushrooms, chive oil, potato focaccia ($24.00) 🍝  Gnocchi sardi, broccoli, parsley, pecorino, pangratatto ($33.00) I spent $75.40pp. REVIEW: From Carlton Wine Room's instagram, the Anchovy is one the dishes to get. On a long thin piece of fried bread, a slim piece of anchovy and a piping of ricotta is laid. Cute rounds of cucumber tops it off. I found this really interesting! I haven't had anything like it before and I adored it. The anchovy isn't overpowering but it adds a subtle umami taste to every moment. Everything worked in combination to give minimal bite but a satisfying taste. Overall, I felt like their dishes were a great way to try European food. Without being constrained by one European cuisine, they've pulled different elements together (e.g. Spanish tapas bread and anchovy, French Gribiche sauce, Italian pasta and Stracciatella) to add CWR's special twist. However, I wasn't particularly blown away by any particular dish. I felt elements of surprise and everything was delicious - but nothing that exceptional or noteworthy for me. Service upstairs was really friendly. Lots of warm ambient lighting and a really friendly brown haired waitress. She was great and very sociable! Everyone who came to give food to our table was quite professional and personable in explaining the food. I had a great time at CWR.

Delicious and beautifully presented food! The staff & service were friendly & amazing. They were great with dietary requirements, e.g. one vegetable dish we'd ordered wasn't FODMAP friendly, so the chef cooked us a yummy roast pumpkin dish instead! We had the anchovy, fried bread with ricotta & cucumber and duck & pork croquettes which were divine! Wagyu rump cap had great flavour. Fried potatoes in garlic were so moreish. They accidentally forgot to bring us one dish we'd ordered (we were getting full anyway), but kindly offered us a complimentary dessert instead! We'll definitely be back!

Really loved this place! My favourites were the Duck & Pork Croquettes, Anchovy Toast and OMG the Rum Baba - seriously just try it. It was boozy and a bit sweet and so soft. The Anchovy Toast was quite delicate in flavour - compared to the Scallop Tostada was was very delicious and quite punchy in flavour. The Duck Croquettes were crispy on the outside and moist and flavourful on the inside while the relish cut through that fattiness which made it a lovely pairing. I wasn't huge on the whole fish - purely because I'm not a fan of fiddling with the bones but wanted to try something new and I'm glad I did the flavour was really good - especially paired with the crispy potatoes to soak up that amchovy and caper butter. I didn't really enjoy the chickpea pasta but thats just me. Also had some delicious damper rolls. I was a bit hesitant on the wines as I am not very knowledgeable however the lovely lady who served us was so helpful and assisted us in choosing a couple of wines - I had a prosecco then the Riesling from Mornington which was crisp and lovely and the one from Germany which was a lot sweeter and I enjoyed that thoroughly. Definitely worth giving this place a go. Had a chilled out atmosphere and all of the staff were really really lovely. I'll be back again :)

Excellent wine list and allocations wines from Bibandum. Food was quick and easy. Huston our waiter made our night easy as i made him picked a few good bottles for us. Excellent champagne by the way. Will be back soon.

A famous wine bar with lots of options for food and almost 5x the amount of options for wine. The staff were very knowledgeable about the wine and could offer great choices that matched with the food. The food was also amazing as you can see from the photos. Can't really pin point a recommendation but anything you pick will have a wine that does well with it. The only downside was that when it gets busy the service can get a little slow and you don't always feel you're getting taken care of. It can also get a little noisy when that happens. Aside from these rare occurrences, the place is lovely and would highly recommend a visit.

Ate here last night with a group of 6. We ordered the set menu but it was very flexible. The anchovy starter was exceptional with really balanced flavours. The scallop starter was interesting. The lamb shoulder & salads & veg were good. The service was excellent. The food is not light it's rich flavours. We would recommend & we would come back.

We’ve heard wonderful things about this establishment, so were eager to try it for ourselves. The interior has a sleek and stylish aesthetic. The food was very impressive, with the waiter being conscious of making sure there were enough portions for the four of us. Although it wasn’t a massive deal, it was slightly unfortunate you couldn’t sample a wine, as it has to be bought by the bottle, so we had to rely on the judgment and recommendation of our waiter to assist with wine selections. All in all, I’d definitely go back!

  • 5/5 Thomas L. 1 year ago on Google
Overall food was great. The potatoes were nice and crunchy, the rump was super tender and juicy, the shepherds pie was full of flavour, the duck and pork croquette was overwhelming and the baker bleu sourdough was on point. All dishes were fantastic and there was an extensive range of wines available for consumption. Service was decent although the waiter was a little bit awkward.

Delicious food, fantastic wine recommendations and excellent service from start to finish. Portions are pretty sizeable given that we had a set menu for a table of 7, and were so full by the end we barely finished our mains. Staff was attentive and accomodating with dietary requirements, and even gave us some extra time to finish our dessert (we were running past our allocated seating time). Truly a beautiful and special experience for a birthday dinner. I would recommend Carlton Wine Room to anyone wanting a taste of the Melbourne wine bar scene.

I’ve been on an entree sort of buzz and these were amazing! Literally one of the best I’ve had. Highly recommend the garfish Only one small negative - The potato’s were a bit salty for me

  • 5/5 Cynthia M. 1 year ago on Google
One of the best wine bars in Melbourne. Fantastic wine selection and a solid food menu. The steak was cooked to perfection as was all the little nibbles and entrees: croquettes, stracciatella, confit leeks. The dining room area with normal seats and booths are more comfortable for longer dining durations. The bar and high tables have backless hardwood stools with handy bag hooks. Staff are friendly and helpful with wine suggestions. Great place for date night, catch ups or just to try interesting wines and have a great meal.

Checked out Carlton Wine Room for the first time tonight and really loved the food and drinks there. I started off with a Yuzu spritz which is super refreshing and hubby had a prosecco. We didn’t take long to decide on our food, the menu is just long enough to give you enough choices but short enough not to overwhelm. Started off with the eel on rye which was so lovely- the eel had a delicate smokiness to it. We then progressed onto the cured snapper which I liked although hubby thought it was ok only. He is not a big lentil person though and I like the nuts which added a crunchy texture. I did think that it was just a touch too acidic for my liking though… Next we had the duck and pork croquette, which was perfectly fried, very rich but the gentleman’s relish is tangy which cuts through the richness of it all. I don’t normally eat offals but I was keen to try the pork tongue- we both kept trying to get the jus in the bottom of the plate because it was so yum My hubby’s fav came: roasted potatoes and Carlton Wine Room’s Rigatoni. This was actually a surprise for me because hubby is not a huge pasta fan but he loved this rigatoni w pumpkin, chilli and vodka! Dessert didn’t really catch our eyes though but I am definitely thinking about my next dinner there!

Beautiful wine bar with delicious food! We came here for a late Valentine’s Day dinner. Service was great with good knowledge. The different foods were amazing, can really recommend the peppers, Half roasted chicken and the ceaser salad (best one I’ve ever had) Only thing I would complain about was the table we were at, there was a cold breeze. The table next to the stairs up to the bathrooms.

Absolutely amazing! We had an special occasion of my friends here. Every single dish is full of flavors and can feel the strong sourness, sweetness, saltiness combined smartly, especially matching with the wine, expanding the flavor experience. I love every dish I had! Definitely will come back again.

Each dish was very interesting in their own right but when combined (Kingfish->Mushroom and Straciatella->Fried chickpea->Rump with Enoki) did not gel too well. Will definitely be going back but will go for the chef's selection ?

What a great place. Has everything you want in a restaurant experience. Interesting well prepared dishes and people who know about their wines, which is what you'd expect given the name of the restaurant! Sat at the bar and let the genial man behind it choose my wines which paired very well With the food. Some really interesting wines which I've never heard of added to a very good dining experience.

What a pleasure it was to experience the Carlton Wine Room today. It is evident that the staff is extremely knowledgeable which simply goes hand in hand with the level of service and quality of food that was presented.

(Translated by Google) A few minutes walk from Melbourne CBD, a small place with a good wine selection and a small menu. Dishes with an idea, refined. Good wine selection, efficient service. Really worth. (Original) Kilka minut pieszo od Melbourne cbd, nieduży lokal, z dobrym wyborem wina, niewielką kartą dań. Dania z pomysłem, dopracowane. Dobry wybór win, sprawna obsługa. Naprawdę warto.
