Best steak in Melbourne hands-down. Been there so many times and never failed to love up to the high expectation. Service was top notch and selection of wines & spirits were good. Highly recommended if quality is what you are after

As the saying goes "Don't go by the appearance, might disappoint you" is perfect to describe our experience....Absolutely shocked at the ratings. In one word 'Dissapointing' ..even more-so as we were celebrating our Anniversary here. Had it not been for the wines and the dessert, this would have been rated as one of our worst celebrations ever. The attendants are not aware of anything on the menu. A medium - rare was served Rare. When enquired if the lamb was pan seared, cooked until tender, she said yes, and served us a very chewy piece of meat. Although, liked the Calmari and the dessert... dime spent was way way way lot than the experience. Our 💔 to rate this one so low but being honest helps.

Amazing food and service. We absolutely loved it. All the dishes were equally delicious and there was something for everyone in the menu. Oysters were particularly lovely. The staff and the ambiance were great. We highly recommend RCH and can’t wait to be back again.

We were recommended to go to the Railway by friends and happy we went! The service is fantastic and hands on, the staff seem to actually care and are happy to have a giggle and suggest things. I have a nasty habit of never getting steak cooked correctly, everywhere we go it's either way over cooked or completely rare. The railway nailed it, the steak was actually Medium Rare and the sauces were delicious. My only complaint is i wasn't a major fan of the mash potatoes, the seasoning was lacking but overall I'm 100% going back!!! I wanted to give 4.5 stars but Google won't let me

Had dinner here last night with a few mates. It did not disappoint, nice venue, friendly and helpful staff and the food..... amazing recommend the Cape grim 850g rib eye (share) .. cooked at a medium if you're a medium rare meat eater due to been such a large cut! Fantastic guys, well done.

Best Steak at the Railway Club Hotel! Having visited them about 3 times now I just really love their steak 🥩. Their eye fillet is always cooked to perfection. This time we also tried their oyster 🦪 which was super delicious 🦪 What they didn’t really do well was the dessert. My peanut butter parfait and hubby’s chocolate fondant were both wayyyy too sweet. Mine is just like a slab of room temperature peanut butter with peanuts 🥜 and caramel sauce on top. I reckon they could have half that, and put some more textures and contrasting features on it- like maybe icecream or something to make less one dimensional .

This is my favourite place in Melbourne hands down. The service and quality of food is second to none. Well done to all the staff for keeping such high standards at all times. 10/10

Ordered Scotch Fillet 350g Steak with Medium cook. The meat was very tender and tasty, juicy dipped in Black Peppercorn sauce. The chip was good as well. Overall, excellent dinner meal to celebrate my friend’s birthday night! Only if you try it by yourself to really understand the chef cooking skills and their meat selection. Totally recommended!

I wasn't overly keen on a steak so I got the main salt and pepper calamari instead. Whilst the taste delicious, they were slightly overcooked and rubbery. For a hefty $42 I would expect slightly better. Maybe dial down on the giant chips and bulk up with a bit more calamari as well. Otherwise I really like this place. I would come back.

If you love steak this is the place to go! Been dining here on and off for years and I can tell you the consistency of their food and service is unbelievable! We had the 800g Cape Grim Rib Eye cooked medium as per chef’s recommendations, and boy was it perfect. So flavourful and yum. Served with onion rings, herb and garlic mushrooms and roast potatoes it is an absolute feast. We had a bottle of Fotbolt Shiraz by D’Arenberg which paired fabulously well. And to finish the Sticky Date lid which was heaven! Such a perfect evening sitting by the fire, could not have been better. PS service is top notch, just seamless. They know what they’re going. Kudos Railway Club, thanks for a great night.

So many options to choose on their menu compared to other steak restaurants. I would go again just to try out other things. I can’t say it’s the best steak restaurant, but worth visiting if you haven’t been. They serve the best onion rings I’ve had so far and have a kids’ menu too, which is generously priced.

Who was that lovely waiter serving us? Lovely service! Best steak, deli 😋 mussles, yummy chips, but....that mash potato was to die for...never had mash potato like that! How did you do that?! I'll go back just for the mash! Couldn't fault this place, not to mention the dessert was a nice surprise too!

Went for dinner on a Saturday and we ordered bass strait rib eye steak, beef & reef plus sides of broccolini and carrots. Steaks were good, we enjoyed it but the price is too expensive for a really good pub food in comparison to other steakhouse / restaurant specialising in steaks. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, service is fast and efficient! Plenty of parking, entrance to the restaurant is on the right hand side next to bar.

All steaks were well cooked, medium rare as as ordered ... 10/10 on the $15.00 Porterhouse special and 6/10 on the $30.00 Wagyu Rump ... Peppercorn sauce is on the sweet side but good. Great steaks, amazing sauces to complement your steaks. The porterhouse was delicious and the truffle sauce incredible. The mustard seed sauce and horseradish accompaniments were a welcome addition (very fresh and high quality condiments). The hand cut chips were yummy too. Highly recommended. Getting there:: it is closer than you think. It is a 5 minute tram ride from Collins street (catch tram 109), and alight at North Port LightRail tram stop and this restaurant is within sight and within a one minute walk. There are 3 outdoor tables and benches to seat about 18 people but the charm and cosiness of this restaurant is inside. Upstairs and downstairs seating available. The only disappointment was the lack of real gluten free dessert options. A little more variety would have been nice. Nevertheless, excellent service and polite friendly service.

This restaurant comes highly recommended for their steaks. Tried the 850g steak, which was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful. All side dishes and sauces tasted great. Good drinks menu. Staff were excellent, friendly, and attentive throughout the meal.

Great service and food. Our server was super friendly and accommodating which helped us have a great time. The charcuterie board was unique with its offerings of chicken liver parfait and various deli's, this was a great start to our night. The oysters were alright too, not oyster season so a bit on the small side right now. The t bone steak was great, nicely seared and smoky with a super tender inner.

Our most favorite steak restaurant in Melbourne. Such a institution. They are always busy so make sure you make a reservation in advance. Our go to menu item is the Rib Eye steak with chips. However, you can’t go wrong with any other cuts here. They are all deliciously cooked to perfection.

One of my favourite steak houses close to the Melbourne CBD. Their food is honest and delicious, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is happy and vibrant. The chef's obviously know their way around a steak, but they also make amazing fare aside. We had the pleasure of having the tasting platter for a starter, definitely recommend if you can't decide what to get, as you get a bit of everything. I then got the 300g eye fillet with creamy peppercorn sauce, and my husband got the 350g porterhouse with garlic butter. We decided to have the chips with one (oh my they are good) and then steamed vegetables with the other. Finally we both couldn't pass up the special Tiramisu for dessert. This was amazing and we are so happy to have indulged. Can't wait to come back again!

Attentive service for drinks. Meal of Porterhouse steak was delicious. Lots of screens for racing broadcasts around the venue are the only thing detracting from atmosphere (in my opinion).

Took my partner here for his birthday. Great food and customer service. I added a special request for his birthday and they came out singing happy birthday for him which was fantastic. My favourite was the chicken liver pate and the robbins island wagyu rump. This place is an all rounder. really nice place for a date or even a party/ group dinner.

The service was fantastic and we were never looking for any wait staff to take our next beer order as they were all on point and made sure our glasses were refreshed. Casually dined into this restaurant. Ordered a steak for 2 and a bowl of fries. Despite the full booking, and we got a table outside the bar, the service food is excellent! Just that the just for the jus is tasteless.

Steaks were elite. Served with homemade wedges. Garlic bread and roasted carrots were great too. There's a separate dining section upstairs as well as the bar downstairs.

We came here for NYD lunch. It was a beautiful day, too bad we couldn’t get the outdoor table. Service was amazing, as well as the food. I have to come back again to do a steak night one day. 👌

I got lucky to get a table just after a few minutes waiting. Food was amazing! Steak was fresh and tender. Would love to recommend to friends and revisit again.

Amazing steak restaurant. The eye fillet was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. We also got the pear salad and the brocoloni which were both amazing sides. Definitely worth a visit for a special occasion or a just nice evening out.

Great friendly service, steaks were awesome, chunky chips disappointing not cooked/crunchy enough. All other food was great, would not order the affagotto again it was disappointing the coffee overtook the liquor too strong for me, but will definitely go back for the food.

Have dined a number of times at the bar and food is always good. (Not amazing) What let’s it down would be a few house keeping items. I suggest they tell the staff to clean the tables once in a while (COVID or Not) Also great if other patrons could read and not smoke near the dining pod!

We went there for a meal before an AFL game. The steaks are just amazing. Great selection of cuts and marbling scores, good choice of sauces and sides as well. Attentive and friendly service from the staff, they will come and ask you if everything is to your satisfaction. Nice vibe and decor in this place. Would definitely recommend and visit again next time I’m in Melbourne.

I have been referred by colleague of mine that this place does best steak. It is now one of my favourite stake house in Melbourne. Definitely going back to try different dishes. Started with the naked sausage with crushed olive. Very unique flavour that went really well together. As a main, we had t-bone & rib eye. Both meat was fantastic quality with perfectly cooked to our liking. Horse radish & mustard with seed on the side elevated the taste experience. Ended with date pudding as a desert. I have to say, if you are vegetarian, just go there for this date pudding. It is the best!

Since entering I noticed the interior had a very comfortable but classy as well. I feel the brick work feels old but beautiful, the waiter came over when I finished my glass of water and filled it up for me with the water jug on my table. Definitely shocked at the amount of effort the staff go to making you feel special. The steak was amazing ! $66 a steak but worth it we drove 40 minutes to eat here tonight and my wife and I was not disappointed :) 10/10

I went to the Railway Club Hotel for dinner and drinks when the F1 was in town and the food amazed me! All meals were medium in size, not too big or small, but wow the taste and presentation! The burger I ate is potentially the best pub meal I have ever eaten, the chips were incredible and the beef korma looked soo good too! (Plus I love anywhere that serves sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce) The drinks were good, atmosphere very light and friendly staff and I highly highly recommend giving it a visit if you’re in Port Melbourne!

Second visit and I am surprised how average the steak was compare to my first food experience I had at this place. The steak wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but still good. The calamari serving came out smaller than I expected. The Greek salad was super nice and very refreshing. The restaurant is pretty fast paced and can get busy which makes the restaurant seem little more casual.

Outstanding steakhouse in Port Melbourne and you can easily see why it’s constantly rated as one of the best in Victoria. The ambience is fantastic. The food is even better. The staff are polite and excellent at ensuring you’re looked after. The decor is well thought out with an array of sporting memorabilia scattered through the restaurant. We order a few steaks and the grilled flounder which were all delicious along with some sides of cauliflower gratin and the salad special on the day. The cauliflower gratin is out of this world!

This used to be one of my favourite places to have steak. Felt like the quality dropped slightly. Ordered the eye fillet…the mushroom sauce tasted burnt, but the biggest let down was the service. Was served by a girl with glasses with curly hair that was tied in pigtails? I felt I was getting served at a fast food chain than a restaurant. As soon as we sat down she reminded us rudely that the table we sat on was booked at 8pm. I had no problem with the msg, but how it was actually delivered. It was so hard to get her attention throughout the evening. She would give us the hand whenever we needed service and use the line “two seconds” in a condescending tone. The only time she smiled was when I asked for the bill as you could see how happy she was to see us leave, and then question us in a shocked tone “no tip??” when we said no sorry. I’ve worked in hospitality all my life and always leave a tip, but not when you’re treated this way. My last experience here was totally different. Felt like I was in a completely different restaurant. Very disappointed

One of my fave place for steaks .. and their Caesar salad yummy too. Had medium rare for my steak for the first time . Not bad but I would prefer medium next time ( but it was super tender ) Great service . Was hard to get a table for dinner and we went for lunch instead. Had desserts too

Had a splendid lunch with my wife and and an old friend of hers. I had rump: it was the best steak I had had on this visit to Melbourne. Cooked exactly as ordered and a fine cut full of all the flavour only rump can give. Excellent Armagnac to finish. Friendly and attentive service, but not intrusive. Recommended.

This is our first visit to The Railway Club and we came for a dinner. Starter is home made garlic bread and was yummy. Order different steak menu for each of 4 of us and everything was fabulous and meat quality met our expectations. The staff were attentive and friendly. Nice atmosphere at the room as well. Overall experience: great services, great food, great ambience. Highly recommended. Ooh one more thing .. we thought this is the best steak in Melbourne.

I am absolutely in love with this place. I really loved the room and the hot water tub. Honestly , the hot water tub was the best part of my stay. The place is very well maintained and is very clean.

Went for our work Christmas lunch. Service is always great with a smile. I had the scallops entree which was magnificent. Followed by the beef and reef. The eye fillet was as tender as always but was a bit smaller than my mate next to me who ordered the same. However it was very filling.

Two options for dining - a bar that offers a good selection of pub grub & a very popular restaurant that is well renowned for its excellent steaks. The restaurant menu also offers a varied & inventive array of seasonal chef's specials. With a good wine list the RCH is a great place to enjoy a sumptuous meal surrounded by great sporting moments from the worlds of cricket, football & horse racing. On most weekends the curbside tables outside the bar are filled with groups of locals enjoying the convivial atmosphere of the venue & the TAB facilities. It's easily accessible by light rail/tram (109); there's limited car parking available in the surrounding streets.

Go where the locals go! And this pub and restaurant has an impressive wine list and perhaps among the best steaks in Melbourne City at a great price point! Tremendous value, great taste! Our family of three with a little 2.5yr of toddler fit just right on a busy Friday dinner crowd as the conversation din drowned out my little one's usual protests from time to time. My wife had the grilled scallops which were yummy, while I had the 750grams rib-eye! I couldn't be more pleased.

The dry aged steak of 300g costed only $50. Good value and they cooked perfectly as what we requested. Apart from beef they also have a few options of pork and seafood. My grilled flounder was very tasty and big. The waiters are very nice!

Delicious food, great service, "urban" location and a nice atmosphere. The bread with butter (I think it came as a starter) was especially good. You can sit inside or outside and there is also a separate bar. Mussels, steak, schnitzel...all my colleagues were very satisfied with their food. Only detail I would consider a minor flaw is the missing restroom air conditioning. Quite warm and somehow it smelled as if the kitchen fryer was right behind it.

As a meat-loving person, I highly recommend the Railway Club Steak House, where the food is of great quality and offers top steaks. If you look at the dilapidated brick interiors and the outdated sports memorabilia on the wall, think about the purpose of your visit here (congratulations), and you won't be disappointed here. The staff here are a little idle, but the business here is busy, they are very tired and it is inevitable. If you just want to have a lunch, it's great. If you want to celebrate, or treat someone with a special treat, don't expect a flamboyant decoration here, there is only delicious food here.

Not a lot of gluten free options. Obviously there is steak, but it's pretty exxy. The side chips aren't gluten free either. Had the rissoles with mash which was nice but fairly small for its price.
