One of my favourite dumpling place in the city. I love pretty much everything on the menu. If you love truffle, please try their truffle xialongbao and truffle dumpling. Lion’s head soup is a must to try. Dumplings with peanut and chilli sauce, ribs, salted eggs, can’t remember what else .. been here too many times. Service is pretty quick, for the table or the food. Great for sharing as you could order quite a few to try. Came here today for lunch and ordered our favourites

Was here a quick dinner with bestie, they were pretty quiet around 4 o’clock. Pretty chill and relaxing while eating there. Good thing was the services were pretty quick, definitely enjoy the chicken rice, tastes amazing. Soup dumpling were disappointed a little, the soup wasn’t that soupy, but that’s enough, still tasty.

We came here an hour before close and my god, I have never experienced food coming out so fast. The first dish (fried dumpling) literally took like less than a minute. Then the rest of the food came within 8 minutes. Food was good, service was okay. The red bean pancake was fantastic. They are also on the entertainment book so good deal overall. Will return for sure.

Shanghai Taste/New Shanghai was a great option when you feel like Chinese (well, Shanghainese specifically). Located strategically at Emporium in Melbourne CBD, they served a pretty large selection of dumpling, meat and vegetable dishes. The food was great (their Peking duck was my favourite), and their portions were generous making the meals of good value. Bright modern venue. Very friendly (and fast!) service.

My son loves Chinese food- specifically dumplings, so I have tried many places. New Shanghai is just okay. The scallion pancakes, or should I just say pancakes, had a total of 2 pieces of scallion (yes I counted); but the dumplings were pretty nice.

QR code was not the approved one. Made a mistake in ticking the correct box, so am expecting offers and stuff in my email. Ordering was by app, seemed to work okay. Food was as expected nothing out of the ordinary. Good place for families as there were lots of small children enjoying themselves. Avoid Sunday lunchtime unless you have them or do not mind the noise they make.

Went after the lunchtime rush for a very late lunch so was seated immediately. Easy ordering system through the QR code on each table. Good selection of shanghainese favourites. Had the hot sour soup noodles. Taste and texture was authentic and delicious! Mid range price point but on par with most similar restaurants in Melbourne CBD. Convenient location in Emporium and not long to walk to Melbourne Central station. Good option if you're after good Chinese food after a day of shopping

We recently had the pleasure of visiting @shanghai_taste2021 on the top floor of the @emporiummelbourne food court for a delightful brunch experience. The interior of the restaurant immediately captured our attention, and as we gazed through the window, we were captivated by a skilled chef crafting soup dumplings with precision. Each dumpling was meticulously filled, and the presentation was impeccable. Here are my top three recommendations from this visit: Xiao long bao, signature thin skin, the first bite, reveals the subtle aroma of the chicken bone broth, which imparts a comforting and savoury essence to the filling The broth inside the dumpling is light yet rich, with a hint of chicken flavour that elevates the overall experience. As you take a small sip of the broth before biting into the dumpling, you're greeted with a soothing warmth that complements the tender meat filling. The sensation is reminiscent of sipping a comforting bowl of chicken soup on a chilly day.💯 "Shanghai Pan Fried Pork Buns," also commonly referred to as "Sheng Jian Bao." These delightful buns are a staple of Shanghai street food and have earned a reputation for their succulent filling and unique preparation method. Juicy minced pork, fragrant scallions, and a deliciously savory broth that's locked inside the bun, pan-frying imparts a crispy, golden-brown bottom that adds a delightful crunch to each bite, contrasting with the tender texture of the bun. Shanghai Salt and Pepper Crispy Pork Ribs with Garlic-The succulent pork ribs, tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, perfectly absorb the salt and pepper seasoning, creating a savory and slightly spicy kick that's elevated by the aromatic undertones of garlic. The balance between the savory, slightly salty notes and the kick of the pepper is a masterpiece in Shanghai cuisine.

Pretty good. Lots of space in the back. Hand made noodles which was fresh and clean eat. Xiao Long Bao which was good! Skin was a bit thick but it was still yum. Pram friendly to a degree. I would suggest parents eat here rather than the food court where it's chaos. Almost like a restaurant with the exception of not having an in house toilet.

Solid dumplings in a mall restaurant - service was pretty attentive and you can’t go wrong with the Xiao Long Bao.

This is our family's go to dumpling place. With kids, parents and grandparents it has great access in the Emporium, cool atmosphere ( not overcrowded and squashed like some other place) and fast service (although not the most attentive staff) Pork dumplings are firm and juicy, and seafood dumpling's mouse texture has a great texture (much nicer than alot of other places). Soy and vinegar sauces compliment the dumplings nicely (some places they can be over powering). Favourites are Xiao Long Bao, Fried Pork Buns and Boiled Prawn dumplings. We've been going to New Shanghai/Shanghai taste since they started in Sydney and still go now as they are consistent in their dumplings.

Lots of takeaway on a busy Friday night! The homemade dumplings were the highlight - especially the XLB which were bursts of soupy flavour and visible crab and truffle bits. Can say it gives other dumplings houses a strong competition. Shoutout to the hot and sour soup which was all that plus well salted with good amount of ingredients - ask for chili oil if you like it spicy. Good wok hei on the noodles and overall very nice meal with heaps of variety of all your shanghai favourites and more.

Ordered the XiaoLongBao, Hainanese chicken and the crispy chicken noodles. We absolutely loved the soup dumplings, it held well and tasted fresh. However, the hainanese chicken did taste bland, the rice was good but the chicken appeared boil. The rest was good though.

They served pasty deep fried Calamari (which tasted awful and was gooey), when I politely complained, they offered to replace it with Chicken, but they sent Duck. They even cooked the dumplings upside- down. Perhaps someone's first day in the kitchen. I paid in full. The upside-down dumplings were funny and obviously we didn't mention that. But the service was rubbish and condescending.

Sad; the food continues to be good. However, it’s a lottery as to whether you will get what you ordered, when it will arrive and when they will take the order. This used to full to the rafters but now it is clearly in decline.

Food was good but beware of the fact they tell you to book via QR code on table and have a 10% surcharge and then another $8 charge per person that uses booking plus a credit card surcharge if you pay by card. We had a table of 7 and didn’t know all these and got stung $30 on the credit card and qr charges alone 😱 And they missed some of our orders 🤦🏼‍♀️

Lack of flavour; service is prompt and portion is big.

My partner and I went for lunch here, the service was not great, staff ignored us waiting to be seated. We ate fried rice, spring rolls and various dumplings, it tasted just okay and was overly salty. After leaving we both felt unwell and rushed back to our hotel where we were both sick on the toilet for the rest of the day. I do not recommend this to anyone.

Came here without any expectations, but the food was surprisingly spot on. We ordered fried pork bao, dumplings, and a soup, which are all very tasty.

Me and my friends went to find a place to grab a snack and that turned into an early dinner since we ordered plenty. Food was really great but service was bad. We were directed to seat on a small table and friend had no cutlery when we asked for table of three. We had to get our own water, not sure if they are suppose to served. Staff needs to be called numerous times to request for a dipping sauce for one of our orders which was suppose to come with it. It was not busy as only three tables have customers and the staff are always on the counter and not paying attention on the customers. Food great except for the fried food. Service can be improved more.

Everything we ordered was presented beautifully and delicious. There wasn't 1 dish that we ordered that we didn't enjoy and their fruit slushies where amazing. The had a large range of food with reasonable prices. I would definitely go back and highly recommend checking it out.

Good for a quick bite. Lots of options. A bit cramp, needing to leave your precious stroller out from out of site. Pleasant to see crab xiao long bao on the menu. Disappointed as there were crab shells in the filling, the bao was made by two different people as the thickness of the pastry - lacking consistency. The pan fried pork bun was okay. I was seated on the bench table, had to fetch my own sauces, which was avaliable at all the tables except for mine...
