Complete waste of time! waited 1 hour for preparing two eggs and 30 min to be seated! If you are short on staff or for whatever reason, it would be nice to let customers know from the beginning that it will take one and half hours to bring the orders!

Quirky and delicious. Hidden down a small alley, you could easily miss this. But you'd be sorry you did. Can recommend any of the bagel breakfasts. No toothpicks unfortunately.

We visited this cafe on a recommendation. We were a bit disappointed with our flat whites, though. Coffee was burnt, unfortunately. The place was crowded & they were ultra busy. I think we actually scored the last two seats at a shared table. Coffee was presented beautifully, but it all comes down to the flavour at the end of the day.

would absolutely go back again! Best bagels that i've had in melbourne, and delicious food. We had the honey and ricotta bagel as well as the avocado smash bagel. I'm not the biggest ricotta fan, but the spread was light and not too much. I loveddd the avocado smash bagel. I eat avocado smashes in every cafe i go to, and this has to be one of the best as they weren't shy with the avocado or fetta! I also really liked the decor and the general chill, nyc cafe feel :)) Service was very good, and patient when we couldn't decide what to eat. Also, they did the most spectacular coffee art!

Great selection of pretty looking desserts. This place can accommodate a decent crowd. Loved it and it was a good experience. Also the prices are very reasonable, especially for 'Avo Chicken Sandwich'. Furthermore , this place has various coffee so everyone can enjoy.

I’ve visited Manchester Press over the years and every time the bagels were consistently fresh and the fillings delicious. Loved the sweet bagel option also; the blueberry bagel combined wth berries and cream were simple yet divine. Coffee was pretty decent.

First, I love the location! Very Melbournian, hidden in a small alley in warehouse style place. Coffee was great and service was excellent. We tried the philly steak and grilled chorizo bagels. The chilly jam on the chorizo bagels was a little too sweet.

It’s been years since we went here, and I’m not sure if it’s gotten worse, or everywhere else just got better. The coffee was disappointingly average, and the food for the most part was the same. There’s an unspoken rule it seems that every Melbourne cafe must have eggs Benedict on the menu, but what that also means is there’s a lot of competition in that space. MP falls super short in the EB department. It’s just…bland. The hollandaise was more like melted butter than anything else, so it’s somewhat lucky there was hardly any of it. The chips were also not great, leaning towards soggy with only the tiny over done ones having any kind of crunch. The Cuban was delicious! The service was fantastic though, and the location and decor are so perfectly Melbourne.

Popped by in the arvo for a post lunch flat white. Service was very warm and attentive, the staff were amazing. Tucked away in an alley, ample of seating available with a relaxed atmosphere. The coffee was decent but wasn’t too unique per se. I personally felt the large was relatively smaller compared to other similar places. Excellent place to read a book or get some work done :)

It’s been years since I went here. I remember that this place was not bad before. But today it was so so bad… especially iced coffee and matcha latte.. we couldn’t drink them at all. It was the worst coffee in 2023 & 2024.. I wouldn't recommend this place if there's no change in food and drinks. Re : I visited between 1.15pm and 2pm. And I ordered iced soy latte, iced matcha latte, Philly steak bagel and honey & ricotta bagel. I hope you find a solution. Thank you

I had coffee here with my partner and found a mix of good and bad. Starting with what I enjoyed: pleasant ambience and attentive staff. But then what really bothered me is that we got charged $12.55 for two undersized and quite mediocre coffees. It was particularly ridiculous to have a bunch of extra charges on top of the already expensive coffees. Being charged extra for the shot of coffee in a dirty chai latte seems especially cheeky...

Want to escape the hustle bustle in city and go back in time. This is the place to be. Manchester press. Good ambiance, vintage touch. Tried their avo toast, acai bowl, cap and detox drink. Worth the value and service. Keep up the good work guys.

A stop for late lunch that was highlighted by the coffee, wow! I can’t think of another that comes to mind. Nice space considering the location down the ally way. The food was unfortunately not as good. The actual bread of the bagels wasn’t really notable for mouth feel or taste. The menu had a few unique sounding options but my choice, the eggplant, was smothered in yogurt so felt like it was a lacking contrast in texture as a meal.

Beautiful atmosphere and decoration, tidy and clean, great service. Food was quite pricey but similar to other cafes in the area. The portions are a perfect size - quite filling but not too much bagel bread. Would recommend the grilled eggplant bagel and mixed berry bagel.

Love the chill vibe of this cafe! Coffees were robust and tasty, we ordered a flat white and latte. Both were good! Food-wise, after a few bites of the maple bacon bagel, it got to the point where it was overly rich… The salmon eggs Ben were pretty good! Spent about 70 aud for 2 pax.

Smashed avo with bagel was outstanding. Bagel wad nicely done. Avocado was fresh. Green Harissa was a great compliment, while Feta added more salty twists to make it perfect. 5 stars Flat white wad mediocre melbourne standard. 3 stars Serving within 10 minutes upon ordering. Ambience was quiet, Instagramable and relax.

One of the best cafes that I tried in Melbourne at this time. My favourite is the variety of filter coffee that they have plus it's fresh. The food was delicious. The said part was the customer service, I literally wasn't expecting that in Melbourne, which is famous for their hospitality. One of the staff wasn't friendly at all 3 times when we called them twice for an extra chair, and extra cutely (which didn't have on the table). Overall, I'll think of giving them a second chance because of food and coffee.

  • 4/5 Figgers 4 years ago on Google
Firstly, the food is great. So flavoursome and good quality ingredients. My gripe today was with the staff not really paying attention and having to flag down a staff member after about 10 minutes of no one approaching us and standing around chatting. One staff member even met eyes with me, I waved to her in a friendly manner to get her attention, only to be ignored and returned to her jovial conversation. The coffee was also pretty bland.

  • 5/5 Nova C. 4 years ago on Google
The staff and service were great. Cute little cafe. My chai latte was a little weak/too heavy on the soy, but the food was amazing. My best friend and I couldn't decide between two dishes so we halved them between us. Best decision. The portion sizes were very generous and the flavour was heavenly. Best cafe breakfast I've had in a while.

Be prepared for a shared table as a single diner. Cold brew was amazing. Got lox bagel and lox was heaping and fresh, so nice. Bagel wasn't cutting it for a new Yorker, but not unpleasant!

They gave me the wrong coffee, which I had double checked before drinking. I wish they would care more about costumers. The food is good but the pickle is too salty. None of my friends could eat those. The place is nice though.

If you love coffee, bagels this is the place to go. The staff is really helpful, and they really know their stuff. I recommend this place! It's not cheap, but you'll get the best coffee in Melbourne here.

  • 4/5 Robert L. 4 years ago on Google
We ordered a Ruben sandwich and almond croissant with coffee. Now their coffee was great and it was pretty good. The Ruben sandwich was really tasty, it was freshly made and you could tell by the taste of it. They also served it with massive pickles. The almond croissant was okay, I don't think they make them and they probably just order them from a pastry shop. The croissant was not crispy and slightly soggy, but almond filling was fine. l have had better ones and hence why I'm critical. Staff were very friendly and cafe has a very chilled vibe so it is great to come down here for a catch up with a friend or a quick breakfast. I definitely recommend this place.

We sat on communal table which was fine until a strange stench wafted our way.. it was a toilet smell, like actually toilet. We were sitting near the toilets so maybe someone had just dropped a fatty. I went to investigate and was overcome by the strength of the smell. We had to leave quickly because it was unbearable.

I agree with reviews about service being very cold. I asked if they can cut the bagel in half and was told, they will provide knife! Ordered a dirty chai which took forever to arrive, after our food was finished and at the end it was actually just Chai.

  • 2/5 Michael C. 4 years ago on Google
2/5 stars - Unsatisfying, expensive and not worth the disappointment, don't believe the hype. Venue: Nice aesthetics, well spaced and very accomodating with a share-space feel to it. Not many tables for a couple, but 4 people seems to be the perfect number to bring. There is no menu out the front to browse, to which if there have been one, I'd have seen a 10% surcharge on weekends and 15% surcharge on public holidays (I'd have not entered had I known this). Staff: There's a sign outside that says 'Wait here to be seated' that staff ignore. We waited for a good 10 minutes, only to have another couple jump the queue to be seated before us. Staff don't seem to adhere to their own signage or even their own policies. The day we went was 'Labour Day' and staff seems a little shut down and short, obviously not wanting to be at work on a public holiday - I hope they got public holiday rates, otherwise I'd be that disgruntled too Food: As pictured, the food looks amazing. However the price for these are typically overpriced. The Banana Bacon and Maple bagel was nice, however the Banana Mascarpone and the Bacon Maple bagel didn't go well together, they're better off separate - which is disappointing. If the banana was caramelised, it may have been a little easy to pair in. The Mixed Berry Maple was a bit of everything smashed up into one with strawberries on top, again looks good; but very unfulfilling and unsatisfying. Coffee: We ordered a mocha and a double shot cappuccino. No oat Milk (which in these days should be a staple). The mocha was decent, but the double shot capp was very disappointing and tasteless. The coffee art was amazing on the other hand, so it's more about the coffee used than the barista (or maybe it is the barista....). Overall: 2/5 Honestly i was excited to come to this venue, however the staff detracted from the experience which started a slippery slope of disappointment. To top this off, a 15% surcharge was charged on a public holiday. As stated above, I'd not have come knowing the surcharge. Not the worst experience, but I'd have gone to a place with toasted cheese sandwiches and found it more fulfilling, satisfying and easier on my pocket.

First off...do not make mistake of waiting to be seated at the "wait here to be seated" sign you will be completely ignored. Staff are rude. Food and coffee is good but not amazing. Overhyped, overpriced and pretentious. Won't return. Many other places in Melb where you can get better bagels and sandwiches for much better price.

INCREDIBLY BAD SERVICE for any business supposed to be in the HOSPITALITY industry. If the owners work on the floor, please take note of the feedback about poor service you have been getting, reviewers are trying to help you!. If you dont work on the floor, you need to get out there and see how badly your staff are representing you. Our experience was nothing new from that already been mentioned by others: joyless greeting by a young blonde waitress, NO you cant add bacon to a dish, we only have enough for std menu items! really? NO you cant have a side order of toast we dont have it (the bread for sandwiches must be a special brand, or order, or only trained for sandwich duty) Watched two groups of customers who did not enter till after we placed our order, be seated and served before we got our food. One even left before we got our food, which was served from one place on the table, reaching in front of us. Then watched a young man with glasses seat two at a shared table next to us and INSIST they sit in the exact seats he indicated, when there was no one waiting for a table. There was no effort to be pleasant or polite. These young girls did not deserve to be treated with such disrespect. Worst interpretation; a business run by entitled millennials who believe the world should conform to their wishes. Best interpretation; owners asleep at the wheel. One star seems overly generous...

After hearing Melbournites constantly harping on about the greatness of their coffee, we were left unimpressed by many cafes in the CBD area with the exception of Manchester Press, a cafe with vintage chic vibe tucked in Rankins Lane. Good food and coffee. However there is a 10% surcharge on weekends, you can’t alter anything on the menu (I wasn’t allowed to add bacon to my cream cheese bagel), and you can’t split the bill.

Food menu wasn't extensive but they're damn good if not fancy. Never thought bacon goes freakin' well with maple syrup, banana, cream cheese, and bagel. Place was cosy, rustic, and full of artistic pleasantries. Coffee wasn't as strong as my usual preference, however it was very smooth and fruity; just another dimension on my palette. Will definitely drop by again ?

Go have a adventure in Melbourne's little busy lane, you will always be surprised. If you are a fruity coffee person, you must try their Raspberry Candy iced latte (I like it with oat milk), it will delight your day. Food was yummy but their is not too many options for those who is not the fan of bagels.

  • 1/5 Audrey L. 2 years ago on Google
It's hard to imagine they can get it so wrong. I popped in for a bagel and I was quite taken aback when I saw the price - $24 for a salmon bagel. I decided to stay as I was short on time. After waiting 10 minutes for someone to take my order (less than 10 people in there), I had to wave someone over. When the bagel arrived it was not only the wrong type of bagel, I ordered sesame and got rye, it was untoasted and doughy, cold, and the toppings were so sparse that I had to ask for a serve of cream cheese on the side as it was spread so thinly it may as well have been butter. Oh, and the 'micro herbs' - a sprig of dill. Great space, but I wouldn't go back in a pink fit!

  • 4/5 Akash D. 3 years ago on Google
Great bagels and coffee was amazing. The dishes are well thought of and the ingredients go together very well. Would be nice if crispy bacon was offered as that would’ve elevated the dishes. However, price point is a little high. Not sure if it’s Covid price increments on the ingredients but a little too expensive.

It's a lovely cafe with bagels 🥯 as their signature dishes. However, I wouldn't recommend rye bread. Sounds healthy but obviously... doesn't taste good. I would recommend the acai bowl which is full of flavours, fruits and cream. Now that's something looks healthy and tastes good at the same time. The cafe gets very busy at the weekend so it's better to make a booking before coming.

Nice food and service. Tuna and avo bagel was full of flavour and fresh ingredients. The avo bagel was a little plain in comparison however still good. Coffee was delicious and presented very artistically. Service was friendly and fixed a problem with our order quickly with no questions asked. Slightly expensive but good food and service.

We had brunch and we were very impressed with the quality of the coffee & bagels. We had iced mocha and it was perfectly balanced. The bacon w vegemite & bacon was a hearty portion enough to feed a grown man. We also had the bagel w bacon+ maple+ banana & popcorn which was a pleasant surprise. The only thing lacking was one of the staff couldn’t speak English well, but we managed anyway. :)

Discover this raw converted space presenting a lovely breakfast option. Melbourne has many but Manchester Press is rather unique. The served plates were almost too beautiful to dig into. The people helping us out choosing from their offerings were very friendly, too. Always a bonus!

Another gem in Melbourne - it's easy to see why this place is highly rated. The building has its own history. The latte was my initial choice, however was suggested a blend (I believe from Bolivia) which tasted great as an espresso. The waiter knows his stuff - and an excellent recommendation. Enjoyed the smell / aroma and the taste (quite rare for me to just have an espresso). Whilst in Melbourne I've had the espresso just twice and this was my second palace (in that weekend I managed to fit in 10 cafes). A place I'd easily visit again.

A really nice cozy place! Service is good! I had the Benedict eggs with bagel and salmon! They were really good!! Had a green juice and it was not good! They told me it was already made and yes, you can notice it, so maybe I wouldn’t order juice again there. Coffe was good too! Went to work for couple of hours and the internet and space was good for it! I would recommend it!

Dropped in for a quick takeaway coffee. They serve ONA coffee roasted in Canberra. I got a regular latte with ONA's Raspberry Candy blend ($6). Shot was well extracted. Cheaper with their house blend ($5). Friendly and attentive staff who greeted me at the door, quick service. Price is consistent with prices in that area. Cozy vibe inside the cafe, located in a lane with brick walls and lots of greenery — a unique experience!

All the bagels sounded so good I had a really hard time picking!! Chose the maple bacon banana which was super yummy and a big portion. Wish I was more of a coffee person to be able to enjoy the specialty coffees they offer. Would come back to try the other bagels!! :)

One of the best breakfast places in Melbourne. Amazingly decorated coffees, yummy chia pudding, bagels with Aubergines and everything in a beautifully hidden place in the middle of CBD

The Reuben was okay. I think next time I'll try a bagel instead though! They use ONA Coffee here which I love! Had a batch brew and it did the job of fulfilling my coffee needs.

Huge range of bagels & other food. Great option if you’re craving something different. Able to cater to multiple allergies & dietary options. Great coffee.

I absolutely adore the coffee at Manchester Press! The rich, aromatic flavors hit all the right notes and truly satisfy my caffeine cravings. Not only that, but the ambiance of the place is simply charming. The cozy and inviting atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to relax, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy some alone time. I am already looking forward to returning in the future. Highly recommended for coffee lovers and anyone seeking a delightful café experience!

It was a bit tricky to find, but I have to say, what an amazing find. Beautiful atmosphere inside, lofi music made everything very chill and relaxing. The BEST coffee I’ve ever had in my life, however the food was rather average. The price for the quantity of food was great, just the actual food itself.
